Music/Radio / Album Review: …and The Bass Is Queen By Lindsey Abudei by AdorableJosh(m): 6:37pm On Jul 31, 2016
Contrary to what a friend told me a few days back, when it comes to music, I’m not hard to please. No, what I thirst for is to listen to music and not be able to get over it for a long time (or forever).

I want to listen to songs masterfully concocted and delivered that I will have no choice but to sit back, relate to and marinate in the awesomeness of the sounds engulfing me. With beautifully poetic construction and delivery, Lindsey Abudei has done this and more for me with her debut album …And The Bass Is Queen, and this is no rhetorics.

Though she has gone underappreciated over the years, this release may well correct that notion. In an industry marred with gibberish and noise, she stands out tall as queen. The only thing that takes for her to dazzle you are her voice and strings.

The 50 minute 12- track journey leans mainly on the neo-soul genre with dashes of pop-rock. The album opens with a short but memorable intro titled Have You? Have you ever walked alone with a broken heart/Have you ever wondered if this is for me?/Have you ever wished for more than silence/Have you ever woken up to a broken dream. These are some of the lines Lindsey Abudei incorporated into the sounds of her strings rendering it with an assured prowess of a professional.

Like Have You? Drift Away and Out of the Magazine tell a story of someone (which some might refer to as naive) who is on a quest to figure out what this life and love is, questions that need to be answered, which call for deeper reflections.

Love and life are the major themes of the album, but she took great care not to come out as being cheesy as she expertly shows in High. She introduced staccato beats and drums in the ballad Libra Man, she portrays herself as a lady who knows what she wants while dismissing her suitor, she shows emotional maturity as she professes her love to her partner in When You Drive Me Mad.

In Freedom and I and Scream at the Sun she tells us the advantages of being free and living confidently, imploring listeners to do what makes them happy.

The album ends brilliantly and with the production of the album, I dare say, can perform well intentionally.

Lindsey Abudei has not come to sweep you off with contrived effects and artless efforts but to showcase an astonishing songwriting skill and simple yet profound arrangements and with this album, she is indeed making a statement.

Mary J. Blige just pulled the plug on her marriage to her husband/manager … filing for divorce to end her 12 year marriage, TMZ has learned.

Blige just filed docs seeking to end her union from Martin “Kendu” Isaacs — who she married back in 2003. Blige lists the date of separation as “to be determined” — unclear why.

Blige cited irreconcilable differences as the reason for the split. They couple has no children together.

There is one interesting note … Blige is asking the judge to block Isaacs’ ability to get spousal support. The document does not say if there is a prenup.

We reached out to Blige and Isaacs — so far, no word back.

Blige has previously banned Isaacs from having friendships with other women.

“All females for me, all guys for him. There’s none of that, ‘Oh, that’s my female friend. Oh, that’s my guy friend.’ No. Not in a marriage, I’ve never seen that work.”

According to press release from attorney Richard Wolfe, WorldStarHipHop has been hit with a lawsuit from rapper Rubin ‘Khaotic’ McFadden. The Miami rapper sued the website for what he called invasion of privacy, intentional infliction of emotional stress and defamation.

The website posted a 45-second video of the rapper with a female acquaintance known as Nina Allimpic engaged in sexual activity in a private room.

Music/Radio / Flashback To 10 Top Songs Of The 2000s In No Particular Order by AdorableJosh(m): 9:54pm On Jul 20, 2016
1. Djinee – Ego: I remember I fell in love with this song the first time I heard it, it became my go-to jam for months and even now I still listen to it once in a while and I’m reminded of what made this a topnotch song.

2. Styl Plus – Olufunmi: The trio of Tunde, Shifi and Zeal took the airwaves by storm with the release of this hit, it was then the ultimate love song and the reason for this is not far fetched laced with romantic lines.

Music/Radio / Album Review Of Jon Bellion’s The Human Condition by AdorableJosh(m): 5:26am On Jun 13, 2016
Embedded in Jon Bellion’s debut album The Human Condition is everything I have hoped for and more. Born Jonathan Bellion in December 26, 1990, he is a singer, record producer songwriter and rapper.

Although the music world is yet to get acquainted with this beautiful mind, he has been around for some time having worked with the likes of Jason Derulo, Logic, Zedd, Eminem, B.O.B and Rihanna.

What better way to start the album than with
He is the Same ? Where Jon tells his friends and family that despite his new found fame, he still remains same the person they’ve known, in this track, he makes it known that despite him “Selling out in every state” and the fact that he “Signed a deal after his first tape” he’ll remain the same brother, son and friend.

In 80s Films as the title suggests, it is a nostalgic track which takes fans who grew up in the 80s back in time with the classic 80s feels combined with modern sound.

All Time Low was released in 2015 and became an instant hit, according to Jon on his Twitter account, he mentioned that the track is about him admitting he has made some mistakes and that he was wrong.
New York Soul (PartII) is an upbeat 4:27 track, Jon showed another side of himself as a musician by dropping rap verses, it’s kind of like paying homage to his New York home.

Fashion is an amazing track with the piano input and melancholic style, it tells fans the more you get, he more you want.

Maybe IDK, this track poses many questions that seemingly have no answers; he later admits that it’s okay to be uncertain about the future. Woke the F*ck Up , after you’ve done something really bad the you realise that you’ve messed up, yeah, this track will especially touch you. The track was released 2015.

Overwhelming , Jon tweeted “I almost deleted ‘Overwhelming’ before I finished it. Johnny Simpson convinced me to keep it. One of my best friends and lights in my life.” How sad it would have been if it had not made it to the album, the track tells how he’s in love with his girl.

Weight of the World sees Jon team up with Blaque Keyz. He tells of how he does not need to hold the weight of the world anymore, he knows God is by his side. Next of the album is
The Good in Me , this track has a longing love all over it, the bridge features an unknown female vocalist.

Morning in America is a lovely tune that you can’t but help yourself sing along.
IRobot speaks of how a good love gone sour can ruin a person ridding one of emotions and becoming like a robot.

Guillotine features tour mate Travis Mendes, this track is the first single of the album, and it’s definitely a chart climber.

Hand of God (Outro) , I can’t see a better ending to this album than this track, it features The Adraé Crouch Choir, the same 30-person choir that worked on Michael Jackson’s “Man in the Mirror”. In this track, Jon sings about how he is just a man “Who lusts, gives, tries” and “Sometimes I lose my way” but in all one should not lose faith because “Your whole life’s in the hand of God”.

Jon is definitely going to give the popular hit makers the run for their money when he finally gains musical grounds. The Human Condition is a fine album filled with inspiration, wonderful instrumentals and relatable lyrics.

Celebrities / On Skales, His Manager And Their Woes. by AdorableJosh(m): 10:59am On Jun 02, 2016
Nigerian music act, Raoul John Njeng-Njeng popularly known as Skales is the latest music act to be accused of fraud by his record label, Baseline Records, together with his manager Osagie Osarenkhoe also known as The Metal Chic.

Skales who signed a deal with his record label on the 11th of July, 2014 has been accused of not fulfilling his part of the contract. One of the terms of the contract states Skales was to assign to the company all copyrights and other rights or interests throughout the world I all sound recordings made by Skales prior to or during the terms of his contract and the company is entitled to 70% of the gross receipts received by Skales from performance, tours and brand endorsement during the term of the contract while Skales on 30%.
Now, the contract seems very unfair, if a record label could be earning 70% and the artiste 30% for all his talents and the rights to all his music prior to and during the duration of his contract, then it’s nothing short of extortion.

The company found out that Skales, although has been performing at various concerts, tours etc, none of the monies received from those events were remitted to the company, in pursuit of clarity, they invited Skales and his manager Teresa Osarenkhoe to meetings and at all those meetings both Skales and his manager insisted that the events in questions were not paid events and as such there were no monies to remit.

The company estimated Skales’ manager has fraudulently converted the sum of N7,474,000 from the aforementioned events and to properly document the fraud an email was created and sent to Teresa requesting Skales to perform at an event. Part of what Teresa requested was the sum of $5,000 on 18th May, 2016, $2,500 was wired to her in part.
Sadly, the contract was not fair to Skales but he should have nonetheless honoured it as no one forced him into signing it.

This incidence serves as an eye opener to what the music industry in Nigeria entails and the only advice that could be given to artistes is to get a lawyer before they sign any contract to avoid this kind of rip-off.

I really do not want to do my masters in Nigeria, I'm considering schools in Turkey or Cyprus but I don't know how to go about it.

I'll appreciate if anyone can kindly put me through the processes, it might not be restricted to those two countries, one of my aims is getting a country where it's not all that expensive. I really need this info, thanks.
