I wonder when what the custom service have in mind. May be they want to create 'EGUNJE' for those who patronize Tinapa. Somebody should be calling some pple to order. |
Tinapa alleges plot by Customs to destabilise its operations. July 25, 2012 | 12:14 am News BY Johnbosco Agbakwuru It’s a lie – Customs CALABAR—Management of Tinapa Business and Leisure Resort, Calabar, Cross River State, has accused Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, of deliberate plan to drive away investors at the place, thereby close down the multi million naira business outfit. In its reaction, Cross River State/Free Trade Zone/Akwa Ibom State command of NCS, denied the allegation, saying that due process must be followed in accordance with the laws that established it. It was alleged that recently, officers from the customs seized a bag of rice bought by a customer at Tinapa and only last week, the customs allegedly seized four washing machines bought by some customers at the gate of the resort. A customers, Rev. Oganiru in company of two others, claimed that they bought the washing machines at Tinapa for personal use and had presented their receipts when the customs officer at the gate stopped them. He said the custom officer insisted that they should pay duty on the machines, a development that attracted the management of Tinapa. Managing Director of Tinapa, Chief Bassey Ndem, said the customs officer told the management that he was acting on ‘instruction from above’ when he was confronted, that the goods that were not bulk purchased and not up to N50,000 as stipulated by law that established the free trade zones. Ndem, who wondered why the customs should frustrate efforts made to ensure that Tinapa was put to proper use, explained that in the last three years, there had been harmonious working relationship between the place and all relevant government agencies. But reacting to the allegation, the CustomsPublic Relations Officer of the command, Mr. Daniel Tule, denied any paln to close down the place, insisting that due process must be followed in any business transaction. www.vanguardngr.com/2012/07/tinapa-alleges-plot-by-customs-to-destabilise-its-operations/ |
Boko Haram is PDP and PDP is Boko haram- Azazi. All these corrupt people that are scared of Buhari should please shut up and leave the man alone. He is the messiah in the waiting for Nigeria |
There are special lines released by the office of the inspector general of police for SMS only to report such cases. I reported once when I observed such along Aba road portharcourt and the speed at which those guys were arrested amused me. Lost the numbers to my old phone but I believe some folks should have it here on nairaland. Will still search for it though so we can help the IGP get rid of this nuisance and miscreants in the police. |
I want to inform nairalanders to please disregard PDP bigots and sycophants on this forum. They are bent to give a dog a bad name in other to kill it. Rochas has done in eight months what Pdp government could not do in twelve years. He has changed the psychology of Imo people that's the most important thing. He has not started any new project but has revived most projects which was awarded by his predecessors some which they claim to have completed but never existed. Another set of people who criticise Rochas are set of who survive by embezzlement of state money either as politicians, government officials, house of assembly members, traditional rulers etc. Their no room for them to live on peoples money again in Rochas administration as those money goes to the people oriented programmes. Please anybody who doubts can visit imo to see for himself. For investments both foreign and local investment is on the rise in imo state because democracy exist there and almost all imolites are feeling the effect of governance. |
PLEASE 9ja BB warriors we need you NOW! Broadcast like your life depends on it. It might!! It appears kabiru Sokoto will be released because PDP big wigs are putting a lot of pressure on the police to release him. This is a known sponsor of terrorist attacks in Nigeria. Please broadcast & tweet about this till CNN is aware of this story. Kabiru Sokoto must NOT be released! |
Their was a broadcast on BB with respect to this and it finally happened. Shame on the the pdp. |
May their souls rest in peace. For those exboys on parade here please hold your peace and don't expose yourselves by revealing your identities on this forum. Nairaland is a sensitive public forum. |
Up NEPA and President GEJ, We now have more darkness. Up pdp and God bless our corruption loving Nigeria, April is almost ending, may be hope still 'dey'. |
Its really disturbing the way Nigerian political class look at their citizens. To be honest characters like Ohakim are supposed to be in jail. Every of his antecedents amounts to fraud and lies. Any attempt by Ohakim to defraud the people of their mandate will attract the wrath of God which means the wrath of the IMO people. |

Saharareporters remains the only voice of the oppressed and the voiceless in Nigeria. They give news that is never suitable to the usual Nigerian system and government in power. I believe justice, fairness and truth has been their watch word in their reports. Kudos Saharareporters. |
This is a perfect plan for the future generation of Nigerians. A world where opportunities are open to all Nigerians irrespective of their tribe, religion or gender. Am begining to appriciate Buhari. Even if he doesn't win, GEJ or whoever leads should implement this idea as it will serve perfectly for our national interest at the long run. |
This soludo of a man is a genius and its high time we use such individuals for the benefit of this country. |
GEJ= failure, Some of us who prayed for his emergence are seriously disappointed on his performance so far. His campaign is not supposed to be bore out of desperation but the score board of his achievement while in office , If he faced the needs of the masses and generality of nigerians like electricity, good roads and employment, I don't think anybody be it Atiku,IBB,Ciroma and co cannot have any impact. People including northern folks in nigeria would be the ones begging him to continue. His era will be remembered in history as the time with high level of criminality, moral decay and institutional failure. |
Can you explain the issue of the Niger-Delta raised by your group? We are saying that under this present dispensation, the interest of the Niger- Delta has not been served. The Calabar- Ogoja Road can be traversed in less than three hours but that same road now can be done in 10 hours. The bridge has collapsed and our entire economy depends on that. Do we say simply because our man is there, we will keep quite? One of our demands is that the Niger-Delta Ministry should be relocated to Port-Harcourt where it will be close to the people and reduce a lot of logistics and administrative cost. You can’t have an agency that is supposed to develop the South-South sitting in Abuja, several kilometers away from its intended beneficiaries. You can imagine the cost of flying people from Abuja to the Niger- Delta. It is a colossal amount. What if the poor people in our communities want to complain to the ministry? Will they travel to Abuja to do that? The Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) is meant to develop Abuja and it is there. Port-Harcourt has been agreed as the capital of the Niger-Delta. Relocate the ministry there to save cost and achieve maximum All these afore mentioned should have been fixed and thereby should be the main basis of campaign for GEJ. |
2011 Presidency Jonathan faces home trouble •Ray Morphy, South-South Unity Forum spokesman insists North must retain zoning By Zainab Suleiman Okino, Abuja Tuesday, November 23 , 2010 The South-South Unity Forum (SSUF) has debunked the impression that all South-Southerners are behind President Goodluck Jonathan’s interest in the 2011 predidential election. Its spokesman, Chief Ray Morphy, said rather, the group supports the retention of zoning that favours the North. He spoke to Daily Sun. Excerpts: Principles behind SSUF. The forum is composed of multi-partisan political leaders of different forces and social groups, who are concerned not only about the core interest of the South-South zone, but also about the unity and continued stability of Nigeria. We are motivated and united by the fundamental concerns and challenges which confront the South-South zone on honest platform. We are discussing and interfacing with other zones in the country. The forum recognizes that Nigeria’s stability depends on peace. Zoning The forum unequivocally subscribes to zoning and rotation in view of the plurality of our country. We hereby stand by and uphold the principle of zoning on behalf of the people of the South-South. We accept that Nigerians not just PDP alone subscribe to zoning and rotation. It is on the basis of zoning that the current government is structured. Olusegun Obasanjo was President for eight years and all attempts to pull him down were resisted because they believe that for the unity of this country, the Yoruba should serve out their terms. Even some of the current presidential aspirants from the North had to intervene to stop the Ghali Na’Abba-led House of Representatives from impeaching him. In the 2007 presidential primaries, people like Dr. Peter Odili, who could have done a better job at the primaries were prevented from contesting because of zoning. There was this well publicized expanded caucus meeting in which these principal characters attended and subscribed to zoning as a principle. A principle is that which overrides individual interest at all times. We don’t want people to believe that the South- South is a zone of opportunists going by the stand of these people, who are now saying that there is no zoning just because they found themselves in the corridors of power. Nations are constructed on the principles that allow them to live in peace. We believe and accept that there is zoning which gives Northern Nigeria the Presidency from 2007 to 2015. We also subsequently expect that 2015 will be our turn to produce the president. Nobody is running for the Presidency from the South-West and South-East because they know that zoning exists. If there is anybody at all running for the Presidency from these areas they are not people of note. They are pretenders. Why are we distorting and denying what we know is true? Christianity teaches us that we should do unto others what we want them to do to us. Christianity also teaches us that our neighbours are critical to our success. The reason why Sweden, Norway and Switzerland are leaders of the world today in terms of the happiness index is because they believe in the need to give all the opportunities to succeed and belong. In other societies where they believe that might is right, they find themselves in crisis. We in the SSUF don’t subscribe to the notion that might is right as those of them who have power now seem to be behaving. We are expressing the true feelings of the people of the Niger Delta. It is our people that agitated for zoning and rotation in all the constitutional conferences to make for equitable participation. Do the majority of the people in the South-South share in your optimism? The contrary seems to be the case, considering what is happening now. Absolutely. South-South is a multi-ethnic region made of Ijaw, Ishekeri, Ibibio, Efik Anang, Ogoja, Delta Ibo, Ikwere, Edo, Urogbo and many other ethnic groups. The South-South extends from the creeks to the savannah land. I come from the savannah land. I come from Ogoja. A lot of people come from Edo and others from thick forested areas like Boki, the largest forest reserve in West Africa. Our people are farmers and fishermen. We are diverse people . Majority of our people do not have access to the media to air their views. Most of the people who are in power can be heard. Our people recognize that peace is a foundation of society. This idea that the bowler hat is the tradition of the South- South is not true. That is the tradition of less than 10 per cent of the population of the South-South. Where I come from we wear red caps. Do you hear these people? No. They are in their towns and villages doing their businesses. Never mistake the voice of the few as the voice of the majority. But it appears that when the Ijaw sneeze, the entire South-South catches cold. That is the misrepresentation of the fact. That cannot be so. We are honourable people. We know for a fact that Bayelsa was created by the late General Sani Abacha. We also know that Bayelsa State is the only state with eight local governments. The state would have gotten more local governments if there were people or land to create additional local governments from. Bayelsa is the headquarters of Ijawland. AkwaIbom State today enjoys the largest royalties because it has several oil wells. What is happening is that the Nigerian state is rewarding those who make trouble. And that does not reflect the true nature of the South-South. Where I come from we are traditional warriors but that does not mean that we terrorize other people. We live in peace with our neighbours. Can you point at any Ijaw man today that is anti-Jonathan? I am not here to speak either for or against Jonathan. But I’m telling you that majority of the people of the South-South recognize that there is zoning. Let’s talk politics here if you really think that everybody supports Jonathan. What is the crisis in Jonathan’s home state of Bayelsa all about? Is it not because the governor is perceived as not in support of the President? Did you not see advertorials from some people from the Ijaw nation that this is not what they bargained for? I don’t have anything against the Ijaw. All I am saying is that the Ijaw have their space and we have ours. In democracy, there is pluralism. We at the SSUF are saying no to this politics of opportunism. If we abandon zoning, how will someone like me a minority become President? Former Senator Joseph Wayas became Senate President in 1979 because of zoning. How would that have been possible knowing fully well that he comes from an ethnic group whose population is not more than 15 ,000 people? We the notable leaders in the SSUF cannot be said not be speaking for our people. Chief Tom Ikimi who was a signatory to our advertorial is well known. Dr. Ambrose Akpanika is also a well known medical practitioner. Socrates said society is made of two categories of people- lovers of gain and lovers of honour. We chose to be lovers of honour. The voices that are dominant now are voices of disunity and we say we are for a united Nigeria. The interest of one man cannot be greater than the interest of the country. It as if they are saying let’s have this one chance and we are done. We say no. What about the interest of those yet unborn? How will you respond to those who might say that your group is a sellout? One of the sad ironies in this country is that people who are telling lies are most times taken as those speaking the truth. If not, how do you accuse the person speaking the truth of sell-out while those telling lies are seen as honourable? If we who are speaking the truth about zoning are sell-out, it also means that those telling lies have been bought over by those who want to be president by force. Do not generalise my statement. You have to ask yourself what anybody fighting in the Niger Delta really wants at this time, no genuine ND person is fighting in the creeks; they are all pretenders hired by dark political forces. So are you saying that those who fought before are different from the ones fighting now. That Ateke tom, farah etc are freedom fighters or they had a cause which they fought for? Lies, lies, lies. They are all criminals who deserve the full wrath of the law and should be treated as so, not as V.I.Ps. Some us during our official duties have captured these criminals but orders always comes from above for their release. Am happy military operations have started again in the creeks to smoke out these thieves and this time around I hope GODFATHER's would allow us consolidate our gains. Some of us in the course of our duty have seen what people of the niger delta suffer. Apart from being under siege of mend and cohorts(REAL OR FAKE),they have little or no basic amenities and very wicked set of politicians who just exploit them and the situation. My pity really goes out to the normal and law abiding people of this region as bear the brunt of this military action/political interference indirectly like the case of a community which was cleansed of militants(known criminals) but on amnesty returned to slaughter about nine chiefs beheading them and still shielded by politicians and till date no action has been taken against them. It really pains me seeing this people as they claim to be mend with unscrupulous politicians. GEJ is seen as a ray of hope for our generation. He should please push out the criminals by his side including the fake and the real mend as they are not the ones who brought him to power as most of them and sycophants by his side always want him to believe. God put him there for a change and he needs to abandon the usual system. Let him re-orientate his people and let their be no reward for criminality but punishment for such acts. Schools, hospitals, roads and other basic amenities should be provided for the law abiding people and also reward hard work. This will go a long way to make oil exploration and exploitation easier than just paying some criminals, arms dealers and politicians. The nations security forces should be mandated to fish out all the criminals without fear or favour. We did that successfully at Liberia, sierraleone and bakassi peninsula. Long live Nigeri |
Dude shut up! Why do you keep calling me and then talking crap? If you are a member of your deadly Efik/ Ibibio militia or an armed robber, govt will fish you out and deal with you. Last time a bomb went off in Delta state, you were screaming this deadly Efik/Ibibio militia nonsense, forgetting that there are no Efik or Ibibio in Delta state. Mumu. Abeg, make pesin see road jare! Am happy that you've realised that the so called militants are armed robbers/ criminals renamed to suite politicians especially those paraded by the president as REAL MEND. They all deserve punishment for taking arms against innocent Nigerians. I agree with Abagworo, criminals in akwaibom, cross river, imo and abia states will soon take on the state with arms in other to get the same recognition and settlement like their rivers, delta and bayelsa counterparts. |
Truly Nigerians are blind, this OBJ/GEJ and cohorts have this to answer, They enjoyed not only oil boom but proceeds from gas remain unaccounted for. |
Obj single handedly brought biafra to its knees(GEJ on independence day award). He has continued to fight that war and even gave up biafran territories to cameroon for betterment of Nigeria. What else can a man do to prove his love for his nation. Ibb in turn tried to make policies and plans for development of nigeria but failed and increased economic woes of nigeria. He also realised that biafra war has ended unlike obj. Both are saints once your interest is covered by either and criminals when your interest is not covered by either. |
Goodluck Jonathan 's faction of MEND, Who is fooling who. Let Jonathan resign. He has failed. |
same people , |
If this poor man is found guilty for this offence and gets the capital punishment sentence then the thieves in power should be sentenced to hell directly. One may not even be sure is not a victim of police arresting error and refusal to close `case' at the police station level. I weep for naija |
Man to Die for Stealing N1,750 From Tobi Soniyi in Abuja, 07.12.2010 For dispossessing a woman of her N1,750 at gun point, Mr. Olayinka Afolalu, must die by hanging, the Supreme Court has ruled. The apex court put the final nail in the coffin of the convict while upholding the conviction and sentence of Afolalu who had wanted his conviction by an Ekiti High Court and the appelate court overturned. The Supreme Court's record shows that Afolalu and three others still at large, had on 27 April 2002, while armed with guns, carried out a robbery operation along Igede Road, Ilawe Ekiti in Ekiti State. They robbed one Mercy Ogunshakin of the sum of N1,750 and raped her daughter, Ifedayo Ogunshakin. He was immediately arrested while other members of the gang escaped. He was charged with two counts of armed robbery. Count one reads, "Robbing one Idowu Fanikun (F) of the sum of N225.00 (Two Hundred and Twenty Five Naira) while armed with offensive weapons, to wit guns, thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 1(2)(a) of the Robbery and Firearms Special Provisions Act CAP 390 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 1990 as amended by the Tribunals Certain Consequential Amendments Decree No. 62 of 1999." Count two reads, "Robbing one Mercy Ogunshakin (F) of the sum of N1,750.00 (One Thousand, Seven Hundred and Fifty Naira) while armed with offensive weapons, to wit guns, thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 1(2)(a) of the Robbery and Firearms Special Provisions Act CAP 390 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 1990 as amended by Tribunals Certain Consequential Amendments Decree No.62 of 1999." At the trial, Afolalu pleaded not guilty to the two charges. He denied participating in the robbery and set up a defence of alibi by claiming that at the time the robbery was committed, he was watching video film with his friends in the house of one of such friends. At the conclusion of trial, the trial judge found him not guilty of the first count charge and discharged and acquitted him on that charge. However, he was found guilty on the second count. The court rejected his alibi and held that the prosecution had proved his case beyond reasonable . The court found that Afolalu was identified as one of the armed robbers who participated in the robbery. He was consequently convicted and sentenced to death. His appeal to the Court of Appeal was dismissed. He consequently appealed to the Supreme Court. At the apex court, he raised one issue to wit, "Whether the accused was proved beyond reasonable doubt by the evidence adduced by the prosecution as the actual person that committed the offence of armed robbery at the house of the complainant." He argued that both the trial judge and the Court of Appeal were wrong to have convicted him because they failed to observe some cardinal principles of law. He said that he should have been presumed innocent and that the two courts failed to examine his alibi claim. The state, as respondent, however asked the court to dismiss the appeal. It said the appellant's defence of alibi had been successfully destroyed by the evidence of the prosecution placing him (appellant) at the scene of the robbery at the time the appellant claimed he was elsewhere. The state further argued that the robbery took several hours during which the suspects had sex with the daughter of the complainant and that the time spent robbing the family was long enough to afford the daughter who testified as the Prosecution Witness 1 sufficient opportunity to be in a position to identify the appellant. In his judgment, Justice Mahmud Mohammed, who delivered the judgment of the court with which four other justices of the court agreed, dismissed the appeal and upheld Afolalu's conviction and sentence. http://www.thisdayonline.com/nview.php?id=178062 |
Tears for sentiments, cry of a sinking man, He has forgotten that if judged by the religious laws which he claims to be a part of, he would be walking without arms. Also he can replaced by another muslim if that may be the case. This thief should go to jail for not only stealing but for comments that can lead to breach of public peace. |
yes our president is officially dead, may his soul rest in perfect peace and for those who have exploited this man's death for a long time and also deceiving nigerians, may the wrath of the almighty befall them. for our president when he was alive and healthy, he stood for the rule of law and humility. |
Our beloved Yardua is still held hostage, |
CONFUSION is said to be reigning in the camp of ailing President Umaru Yar’Adua, following disagreements over the next step to take on the ailing leader. Investigations by the Nigerian Tribune indicated that members of the cabal around the ailing leader have now abandoned the First Lady, Hajia Turai, in view of what was described as her intransigence in finding the way forward. It was gathered that while some Northern leaders had recently joined the search for a practical solution to the Yar’Adua situation, as they were said to have reached out to the first lady and other members of the cabal, it was learnt that the first lady got many of the interested parties angry with her insistence that her husband should be allowed to remain in the villa. A source said that the Acting President, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, appeared to have consigned the Yar’Adua issue to history after his decision to approve fresh funds for treatment of the ailing president was turned down by Turai. A source said that the first lady viewed the release of the funds with suspicion, as some members of her own inner cabinet were said to have expressed fears that removing Yar’Adua from the Villa could empower the National Assembly and the Executive Council of the Federation to declare him an invalid and permanently incapacitated. While some members of the cabal were said to have agreed with Turai that allowing Yar’Adua to embark on another medical trip abroad could mean the end of his presidency, they, however, disagreed over his continued stay in the villa. A source close to the administration informed that other top members of the cabal had now abandoned Turai, following her refusal to adhere to the suggestions by some northern leaders who had proposed a “soft landing” for the ailing president. A source confirmed that some northern leaders had reached out to the acting president and other influential Nigerians and had come up with the solution that they believed would please all parties. Their suggestion was to the effect that Yar’Adua should not be disgraced out of office but should be allowed to resign and leave the villa honourably, said a source at the weekend. It was, however, gathered that Turai was afraid that things would no longer remain in her control if she moved her husband to Katsina. It was learnt that Yar’Adua’s most trusted friend, Alhaji Dahiru Mangal, was one of those displeased with Turai’s decision and had subsequently decided to stay away for now. Sources confirmed that the first lady had expressed the confidence that her husband could suddenly regained consciousness and that she remained hopeful that Jonathan would not move against him. “She has seen that Jonathan is well disposed to her husband and is not orchestrating his removal and she wants to latch onto that and remain in the villa for as long as possible. She even believes that she could end the tenure in the villa with her husband, but interests in the North are already seeing this as harmful to the politics of the zone,” a source stated on Sunday. source-http://www.tribune.com.ng/index.php/front-page-news/4804-confusion-in-yaraduas-camp-turai-cabal-members-disagree-over-planned-resignation-overseas-medical-trip |
In other parts of the world where the govt is begging people to apply for military or paramiltary jobs, in nigeria people are sold forms just to apply!! True talk, and it does not end there. You must bribe the recruitment officials to get hired. Talking about the fellow I didn't know he was also a fraud. I thought he was just a bully or power drunken thug who bullies including his own pple. Can you imagine this man's convoy almost pushed me into deep gully without any recourse. |
