Did you for the $$?

You’re getting the naira right. In the normal sense, it reaches Nigeria because you can go to the bank to get the Naira but the $$ itself being sent is just being collected by the fintech there and they are paying you with their naira reserve.

What I now don’t understand from this Mr Taiwo is that this has been the norm for decade, so at what point did they know almost 80% of it is not reaching Naija?

I dont think it's been the norm.

When the likes of western money and money gram dominated the market, they did the notmal thing.

..but times have changed, difference between the official rate and black market rates have grown, no one wants to be offered official rate when black market rates are better.

Also fintech apps are now instant transfer, most of the other ones still long stories.

Last bring your money into a dorm account in Nigeria is very frustrating. Many cbn paperwork to move it n cbn policy changes often. Banks are charge huge transaction fees , fG charges taxes.

Why would anyone want to use such

I guess you werent putting you think cap on when Tinubu did same to GEJ.

Anyways, democracy involves freedom of expression. If people feel, they have been let down by the government (which clearly has happened), they are free to express their opinion.

I don't understand.
mpower/prodigy finance gives out loan for travel purposes?

Carbon and other online apps can't give out the kind of loan needed for Japa.

You know any loan that properties can be used as collateral can't be below millions.

Go to their website and read about them.

Also, I didn't say carbon gives student loan, read again

Do you know any entity giving out loan that these properties can be used as collateral?

These are core student loan companies open to nigerians: mpower, prodigyfinance

They have a list of courses they support across various countries. So not just UK, also look at courses across USA and Europe on their list.

There used to be a thread for mpower on nairaland years back, try check for it.

Lastly have a good credit score in nigeria.

You can check for it for free using the carbon app

Hello everyone,

I am currently in the UK with my daughter under a student visa. My husband did not apply at the time due to some court issues he had to attend to. Unfortunately, students have been stopped from bringing dependants. We really do not know what to do next. Please I need ideas on how we can reunite as a family. Going to Nigeria is out of the equation due to the investment we put into it. I just want my husband 😭😭😭

If your programme started before 2024, the rule does not apply to you. Your husband can still come along.

That you are with your daughter means you likely came 2023 or earlier. In this case you husband can still apply to join you no issues

We all know this is the case but how will they get the clicks they want

Most stolen vehicles in Naija are from Canada / US, not UK where you'll go through the stress of converting a RH RR Cullinan to Left

Who go buy am?

In Nigeria , where people pay cash not 5% deposit,. very few are that stupid to buy a car of 50-60M which is not just second had but has been converted from RHS to LHS.

If as a dealer, you sell such car to someone in a country where refunds do not happen, your life will be at risk when the person fiinds out. If you do it to someone for a 2M car, you may escape, but someone who pays you 50M likely has the wherewithal to cause hugh problems if you try that with them

I doubt they would do that for a post-2018 range rover.

It is an affluent-spec car, most owners buy directly from dealers brands brand new not second hand for a car of this type. Definitely not buy one that has had major surgery of this type.

It is more likely in a fellow european country with RHS driving but racism did not let them reach that conclusion which is more logical.

Gradually, the consequences of not building local manufacture grounds up is revealed. Over the years, the preferred way to be an industrialist is to import highly processed raw materials then do little packaging.
Only import substitution can save the Naira value now.

Also, the consequence of Nigerian companies having to import capital & loans. They should be generating capital from the country. Very silly entrepreneurs.

Also government should clamour less for FDI, so we have to bother less about having a stable exchange rate.

Career / Re: Is 400k Job In Nigeria Worth Staying Or Should I Japa? by Advision: 12:26pm On Jan 03
Elsucre24:
I will be 31 this year. Omo the age is scaring me and I keep feeling like I’m not doing enough. I have a stable job in the private sector with a 400k monthly salary. But I still feel the impact of the economy badly. I keep asking myself, at what point will I start living the good live?
I feel stock sometimes because my job is very demanding and I almost do not have time to do other things, mind you I’m in the medical field and I work Mondays to Sundays most times but occasionally I have some Sundays to myself and sometimes a day off during the week. I can’t seem to be able to start a business as a side hustle cause most of the side hustles I can think will demand my presence at least for the first few months and I don’t really have that.
My girlfriend is pregnant, I really wanna keep it but she’s not ready, I’m not even sure I’m ready. The only way she can keep it is if I’m going to get married to her before the pregnancy starts showing and I’m as confused as hell cos I don’t know if I’m ready. She has always been vocal of her plans to japa.
Now that brings me to the idea of Japa too. I mean, I cannot deny that fact that I’m scared of the whole japa stuff cos I don’t know what to expect. Economy doesn’t even allow you save as much as you should. Everything’s just seems very scattered.

Pls I need adult minds to advise me on what I can do.
1. Do I start a business, what kinda business can I start with at least 2M that will not require my full presence?
2. Do I start to plan my japa through the study route and just face my fears
3. Should I insist on keeping the pregnancy and hope that things start making sense? This means I have to get married tho.

Thank y’all.

Hard to advise, 2 -3 years ago, I would have advised you leave because it was less expensive and countries were more open to immigration. Story has changed over the past year,

Thanks for your responses, including Sadiq and elengine.

I'll be needing like 3 more diets to finish ICAN if I want to continue so I have decided to start any of the more Internationally accepted qualifications.

Once again I'll need your input on choosing between ICAEW, CIMA or ACCA. Thanks honorable ACAs (FCAs maybe).

depends on what you want and how fast you want it.

ICAEW is more focused on the financial reporting and technical accounting side.

CIMA is more focused on business partnering and management accounting bit.

Can't say much about Acca.

Once you have your ICAN, you only need to sit for a single exam to get CIMA certified. You need some experience but does not have to be post qualification.

for ICAEW, no exam is mandated but 5 years of post-qualification experience is required,

Most NHS jobs require CCAB accountants - ACCA & ICAEW are part of CCAB, not CIMA.

So if the NHS is a major focus for you, ICAEW or ACCA gives you better leverage.

Hi Chief. I am currently on ICAN skills, remaining Performance Management and Financial Reporting to clear skills, I started with no exemptions because my first degree is in science. My last diet was May 2023. I am confused if I should continue with ICAN considering my place is far from the exam location, the cost and acceptability in UK. I am thinking of starting ACCA or CIMA outrightly... Please I need your advice.

Others' advice welcome too. Tx.

Happy New Year all.

best you dont sit on ICAN. Outside the big accounting firms, it is not really known by many recruiters and may put you at a disadvantage for roles seeking qualified accountants.

convert it to CIMA, ICAEW or ACCA when done.

He told you he was busy ,and he didn't say he won't returned it.. He blocked you, that's probably maybe your calls were becoming disturbances to him. He has his life to live ,and can't put hold on his businesses because he wants to send you the money he didn't asked you to send to him..The suspected thief can get a good lawyer he can actually defend himself.. But I will really love to see how the case ends ..

This is very insensitive and shows the warp mindset of some Nigeria.

Granted, the sender has made a mistake, how does that justify the receiver stalling and claiming he has no time to check his balance.

Assuming (which I doubt), he has no way to verify his balance in real time, he can simply walk up to the nearest ATM to confirm.

That it is just 12k is also not a reason not to take it serious.

The receiver is a scammar and you are likely no better

I am now fully convinced God wants to disgrace a demagogue in power for his boats, blasphemous tendencies and his obstruction of the will of God over Nigeria.

Eastern Nigeria, time to create and economic region independent of the comedy happening in Niger same way white south Africa is running am independent African economy in South Africa

Remember when they said "subsidy" was the problem and once it's gone Nigeria's economy would flourish and there will be so much more money for the government to spend on other things?

Well, now it's no longer said to be subsidy as subsidy is gone and Nigerian have been sheen shege in return, Dangote refinery is the "new killer bullet" .

Don't dwell on the "ifs" and "why". Dwelling on the past and regretful reflection will leave you broken and weak in purpose.

Get a good mentor, discuss well and rescope your plan with will and a strong purpose. In a few years , you'll likely not even see your present loss as something to regret.

Also, you are in the state's, the world's largest economy, thriving in innovation and opportunities, what is one wasted opportunity?

Please I have a question to ask.

I don't want to go into details so my partner doesn't trace this to me.

My partner came to UK before me, though still on student visa. I joined her with my 3 children one months ago.

I have noticed some red flags which never happened while we where in Nigeria and I was footing the bills alone.

Each red flag, I pretend nothing happened because I don't want to be thrown out like the man I read about on social media.

My visa is dependent on hers and we are still on student visa.

My question, in the event that we get papers to stay permanently in UK and one day she decides to send me packing or I decide move out, will I be asked to return to Nigeria because she is the main applicant?

Please I need urgent answers. I may not play the fool for long. We are very certain of getting papers next year.

You have the opportunity to make more money than she can, please save some aside for "contigencies". Also, double your hussle for your own visa.
