You were not fired. God pushed you into a higher ground. Dig in my guy and come back with testimonies.

exactly ....teaching in a school that sounds almost like it operates from a 3-bedroom apartment 11 good years after graduating is bad.

He should be glad he was fired, God is telling him, he has denied his greater destiny for too long.

I doubt he earns up to 60k a month there

It's better to be unemployed than to teach. Schools in my area in Lagos pay teachers 15k. What's that gonna do. You will still die of hunger I rather die in a simpler way than being a beast of burden

Going to teach for a private school after service is a very bad decision bro;

1. It takes a lot of your time and is an occupation with a high emphasis on "presenteeism" i.e you being available and seen @ school. You would not have time to attend interviews or do some other sharp programmes that will help you get your dream job.

2. It doesnt give you the right connection/network - you interact with students and fellow teachers who by and large just struggle to get by.

Most of my colleagues who went from NYSC to teach almost 6-7 years ago, are still teaching bros. Others that went into the market unemployed to hussle for their dream job now probably make as much as X10 or even X20 what they earn as teachers (I exaggerate not. Only a few of them earn more than 50-60k)

@MSjackson, honestly I think this is a positive thing. Low-budget teaching is a scam that would have kept you living a life of poverty. You should be thankful to God and take your time and look for other sharp hussles where you can more easily get opportunities for growth. The path may initially be rough but with the right mindset, determination n grace from above, you would triumph.

Its better you take a sales job (which are also quite common). It gives you time to meet people of calibre and time to attend interviews. Yes, "target" dey fear people but its for a while, you can then move to better opportunities.

Crime / Re: Has Anyone Ever Tracked Their Stolen Phone Using The Nigerian Police? by Advision: 10:46pm On Jun 18, 2022
kamtrix:
Happy Sunday evening everyone. Please, is there anyone who has been able to find their phone that was Stolen in Nigeria, by going to the police? How did you do it? What's the process and the cost? Every detail is appreciated. Thanks and God bless.

imei number preferably. they can confirm the location of the device, sim cards that have been used on the phone following the date it was reported missing. From the phone numbers you can then build a profile around the thieves.

members of the dss can readily track it for you....retrieving it though might be the tricky thing though because of cost of mobilising law enforcement agent to make the arrest. The cheaper alternative is calling an threatening the owners of the sim cards used in the phone. The risk is they may get scared and switch off the phone and their sim card permanently.

How many hours is your current role + how many hours would you spend, at your proposed new role......

Forget about the lack of stress .......... cheesy

The new role is full 40hours, but only 2 days in the office.

The current role is as low as 16hrs and as high as you like (provided shifts are available). I told them I was only going to do weekends and maybe some nights. I never opted to do day shift and I do not have that in mind.

... but really the job has almost no stress, I just routinely take records and I get my full night's sleep in a furnished room.

Hello house, please advise on this.

I am on the verge of taking a second job (a professional job within my normal career path). However, prior to this, I took up a shift-based role (mainly weekends and some nights) about a month ago. The job isn't stressful, pays well and is flexible. I don't see a direct conflict of interest as they are in unrelated industries and unrelated roles.

I am tempted to maintain my current job alongside the new job because of the benefit of the increased combined pay and my current role being fairly hassle-friend and flexible.

Please advise on the best way to manage the situation or if I just have to resign from the current one

@TheGuyFromHR @justwise @all, pls I need your advise.

I don't know how the new employer would take information on having a second job and I would not want such information to prejudice their impression of my commitment to the job. I understand they can from the tax code from the HMRC deduce I am employed somewhere else

Many offices have policies that forbid couples from working together in the same unit to prevent collusion and maintain professionalism. Ideally, you should notify HR of a potential conflict of interest in you partaking in the recruitment as your wife is a candidate and ask to recluse yourself.

Adults quarrel and disagree....its a very abnormal family when the grown-ups have to wrestle each other physically for any reason. A very dangerous situation...op should just thank his stars it did not ended well for himself

my kid bro who i single handledly passed down wears to back then has the audacity to talk to me anyhow just because he his a father of a 5year old boy and another one its on the way. well that's how he's been reason he toke a lot of beatings from me back in the days... the recent happenings happened this morning after so many years, I came home for a very close relative burial same with our eldest bro whose in his mid 30s. discussion we having one thing lent to another... this kid bro of mine flared up shouting at the top of his voice to my elder bro...mom telling him to shut up he's still talking...I immediately pounce on him in the presence of his wife and kid, I gave him the beating of his life, squeezed that his lip he was using to insult our eldest bro, not minding his wife watching.

yes I'm angry with him, the day his wife gave birth out of wedlock, he was jubilating that he the last born first us to give our parent's a grand child. I say see this one, if I wanted to have kids I would have, how many ladies has tried to trap pregnancy on me all through this year's. it's just man not yet ready yet, and been married don't Just freak me yet.

mom been gingering me to apologise to him, but I refused? why would I.

yes I was wrong for beating him in the presence of his pregnant wife and kid, I didn't mean to embarrass him...I felt bad myself after the whole thing.. but before he was a husband he was first my kid bro.

don't be a fool, you fought you brother and you openly boast about it. You read in the news how one brother killed or maimed another...that could easily have been you. What if your brother took a weapon at the height of the confrontation and lunged at you? very easily your mother could have lost 2 children (1 dead and the other condemned to prison)

Thank God it did not lead to that....if you and your brother do not get along, avoid him....he is old enough to decide what he is and how he should comport himself..children or no children

And appreciate your brother was the more matured party, because he allowed you get away with it. In some other homes, at least one person will land in the mortuary or emergency ward....and for your family's sake, hope he looks past that event.

the challenge is most nigerians dont have the right info when they arrive and learn by trial and error. The indians and chinese tend to support each other way better. Even basic things like interview ethics that apply here, I have had to learn by trial and error.

The people you talked to are not lying, more and more Nigerians are starting to open up about life in the diaspora and being truthful about their experiences.

A neighbour who works with Mobil and has relocated his family of 4 (wife & 3 kids) to Canada told me life is not as rosy as we think and it's really tough overseas. But our people like to lie and pretend about these things.

Does it make sense to leave a good paying job for a menial one like some of your friends are doing? I don't care how much it pays, you don't need a soul sucking job that pays XYZ amount before you can live a good life. You get the money and end up with other issues like depression, health hazards etc

I have heard of a 50 something year old Nigerian man who works in a factory over there, he suffers from back pain and all, but he can't quit. He has to keep grinding because they took out a mortgage on their house, him and wifey are still working to pay off. I can't recall the exact age I was told but it was something close to our retirement age in Naija. If they were here, chances are, he would have built his house and been able to retire from active duty by now.

Before you japa watch a YouTube video of Wode Maya & Juliet (search for it on Youtube) to help you make an informed decision. Take your time to read the comments that follow as well, it is African diasporans sharing their truth and experiences.

Diff things work for diif people and its always good to plan well an have the right work documents and skill.

Being in the developed west is way better than Nigeria,

1. the jobs are there (https://www.standard.co.uk/news/uk/hiring-crisis-vacancies-unemployed-jobseekers-b1000492.html)
2. what you call menial jobs in the west provide a far more livable wage even for than anything you will get in Nigeria....a security gaurd could earn GBP20,000 entry wage, while a professional will earn GBP40,000 per annum...in Nigeria a security gaurd will do 30k per month, the proessional will do 300,00k per month......who do you think will live a better life?
3. Job market is very flexible ...you can pick up several shift and a lot of them allow remote working with good mobility. A lot of blue collar jobs here payas much as mid-level white collar jobs because they are more flexible and wages are decent.
4. In the Uk at least, gov provides good social support...NHS, funded child education and all
5. its a good investment in your kids...Nigeria is going down a pit. You onl need to be in a working society to appreciate how much the country is now a jungle.
6. If you save 20% of your menial income here which is doable and translate it back to make an investment in Nigeria...you would probably have to work 5years of your white collar job in Nigeria to save the same - right now 1GBP is about 800N

I earned about 750k a month in Nigeria, my regret is not leaving earlier. Dont discourage people if you dont know what is obtainable over there..responsible and legal migration is important though
