Car Talk / Who Can Import This Cheap Synthetic Engine Oil From Amazon.com @ N650/litre.. by aeu1: 1:33pm On Jul 03, 2014
Full Synthetic Engine Oil
Mobil 1 - N8,000 which translates to N2,000 per Liter for a 4 liter gallon
Total Quartz 9000 - N9,000 per liter, which translates to N2,250 per liter for a 4 liter gallon
Forte Synthetic oil - N7,500 which translates to N 1,875 per liter for a 4 liter gallon
ETC
Then
Accel 5W-30 Full Synthetic Motor Oil - 1 Liter Bottle sells for just N650 at amazon.com

You will have fresh business if you can import 5w30, 5w20 and grades of engine oils to the country. I don't know why almost all the companies producing or selling engine still stick to 20w 50 till date right from the age of Peugeot 504 and Volkswagen Beetles.
There are Mobil 1 which is 0w 40 but sells for N8,000, - which is very costly for most car owners and Total quartz 9000 - which sells for about N9,000. Aside the price, Ideally, it is originally designed for Benz, BMW, Volkswagen/Audi. Most modern Toyota and Nissan models recommend 5w30 till about 2010 models that recommend 5w20, also most Honda recommend 5w20.
Konga.com and few dealers sells these 5w30 and 5w20 but prices ranges from N6,500 - N10,000, which is still still costly. All popular synthetic oil brands such as Mobil, Total, etc are usually costly.
After a careful search, I discovered a brand of synthetic engine oil that from car owners experience is very good as the popular brands but sells very cheap as low as N650 per liter (whereas the the popular brands sells for average N2,000 per liter). If you bring it, you can sell for N750 -N850 and make quick sales. It is a synthetic oil, meaning it will last 6 months in an engine compared to the conventional oil that lasts just 3 months.
the links are as follows, where you will learn the difference between synthetic and conventional engine oil - when you scroll down the page:

The requirement for buying from Amazon is payment with Paypal
I don't have an account with paypal, that is why I can't import directly, any smart nairalander that has the means can order it and sell. Or when travelling out of the country can bring it and sell here. You will have the product to sell at a rate sellers will rush to buy from you. If buy many cartons, ship it by sea instead of air cargo to further reduce the shipping cost. I can recommend you to a shipper that can do that if you so require.
All what we want is a quality product at a much cheaper rate.

Ask for clarification where you need more explanation.

You do not need paypal account to complete your transactions on Amazon. Your Nigeria Debit card is enough to buy things on their platform
90% of my purchases from US are all on Amazon. Cheers!!

Can you share details on how you do that?

Nice one. You can use your debit card to order for it yourself. Just go to your bank and make enquiries. Its best if you bank with gtbank

You can even pay amazon.com in naira. The issue is shipping to Nigeria so you will route it through a third party that will forward it to you. I xant advertise here so please shoot me a mail and I will walk you through the process

Stylz69(m): 4:34pm On May 21
You can use your naira mastercard on Amazon; i have my Zenith and GT Bank card linked there and make purchases. You will need a forwarding company; i use www.myus.com. They give you a US address which you use to receive your deliveries and forward to you using fedex or DHL. Note that you should factor in shipping costs before you conclude if it works out cheaper to import the oil.

still very cheap if so

@cne010: Shippyme.com their adv has been on nairaland for while they can even help you buy and ship while you pay in Naira.

All these companies like shipping laptop, tablets, phones ,perfumes, books, jewelery and light weight items since they charge per KG weight. Items like this would be better shipped by sea and paid per cubic meter of space or volume in a container or any bulk cargo or registered parcel - post office.

Total Quartz 9000 - N9,000 per liter, which translates to N2,250 per liter for a 4 liter gallon

I think there is a slight mistake of prices quantities.
Mobil 1 is N8,000 and comes in a 4litre with 1litre bottle costing N2,200 and is 0w40 aa you rightly said.
Total quartz 9000 is N8,000 and comes in 5litres with grade 5w40

The price i saw there is $25 per quartz (N4,000), & 1 quartz is about 1liter, that will make 1gallon about N8,500 before you add shipping cost.
That's expensive.

With that volume of freight, you MAY have to pay clearing fees in Nigeria.
My freighters include clearing in their prices, so all you do is receive your shipment.
FEDEX and DHL do not courier liquids, especially petroleum-based fluids.

You don't need Paypal to purchase from Amazon (US). I order things all the time using my GT Naira MasterCard. Any of the other ones (Zenith, UBA, FBN etc) should also work. The only snag is that they don't ship to Nigeria. But then, engine oil is quite heavy, which would automatically rule out air freight.

yeah, your observation is right. The motive of this thread is to alert importers such as car dealers to bring it along their shipments without coughing out much to freight charges and sell to us at compatatively lower rates compared to what is obtainable in the market presently.

Body
Engine
Manual transaxle
Automatic transaxle
Engine electrical (wiring schematics)
Body electrical (wiring schematics)
Cooling system
Braking system
SRS
ABS
Air conditioner
Emission control
Steering and suspension.

As you can see, the list is huge. No way will I trawl through all the above, when all someone needs is to identify the fuse for the audio unit.

And I'll also need your VIN.
Sorry, I tought repair manual use to be a single booklet.
VIN: 2T1BR12E2YC330043
Actually, I got the car with the both the radiator and condenser fans connected directly thereby making the engine to run very cold, especially on cold days. I suspect the thermostat has been removed too. So, I'll need wiring diagrams to enable me DIY:
1) restore the fan connections to factory setting and
2) how to plant back the thermostat and possible opening temperature of OEM thermostat.
I believe you now know the right diagrams to give me to cover the 2 projects above.

Car Talk / Thread For Car Owners & Repair Manuals & Electrical Schematic Diagrams by aeu1: 1:03pm On Jul 02, 2014
With due respect, I believe this is a critical area that is missing in this forum. We ought to have a dedicated thread for car manuals, be it owners manual to assist in proper car matainence or workshop manual and electrical schematic diagrams to aid DIY repairs and technicians. The goal of this car talk section will be further enhaced. Moreso, most car owners don't have any manual at the point of acquiring their used cars, at other times, the manual that accompanies the tokumbo cars are not in english language. PROCEDURE Request for any manual by stating your car details and any member that has information about how to access them can be a helper and respond by either placing a link or an attachment containing the manual. State your car details as follows: Make:, Model:, Year: Manual: I will start by placing my request immediately.
Make: Toyota Corolla 1999
I am looking for both owner and repair manuals. Thanks in anticipation.

Health / Re: What Soap Do You Use? by aeu1: 12:11pm On Dec 19, 2013
deols: Antiseptic soaps are not the best. In fact, if you don't have a medical condition nor exposed to germs, you should not use one.

I use dove cream wash because of its moisturising action plus it is found everywhere.

@Segun and majority of educated Nigerians who has fallen to the allure of bathing with medicated soap in recent years, pls if you care for good advise - which I believe is one of the benefits in a public forum like this, kindly stop using it.
Medicated soap is a drug; a prescription drug for that matter. Self medication worldwide is permissible for OTC - over the counter drugs, eg panadol because they don't have side effect unlike prescription drugs.
What medicated soap does is to fight and kill germs and skin infections. The human body has a natural defense system that attack foreign bodies and protect the entire skin effectively, e.g. if boil appears on your skin, puss may develop as a result of an attack of the infection by the white blood cells. In event of the use of medicated soap regularly, the natural immune system of the skin is weakened as the human body now get accustomed to relying on the antiseptic power of the soap & the bacterias, fungus, etc on the skin will over a period of time learn to tolerate to the attack pattern of the soap and this is how drug resistance is developed to drugs by germs. There will be no observationof a problem until in event of a serious skin sickness or infection that requires doctor's attention. The doctor will prescribe drugs or medicated cream or soap - which will be ineffective because of drug resistance on the skin defense system already.
Summary : one is actually doing more medical harm than good by using prescription drugs (medicated soaps inclusive ) as it results in breeding drug resistance to treatment of diseases whenever an occasion that actually requires the deployment of medicated soap arises. It supposed to be used and withdrawn.
Advise: please revert to TOILET SOAP - there are a 1001 choices to pick from and use Medicated soap or powder for treatment purposes - especially when recommended by a physician. The Tv & radio advert of medicated soap is misleading. A good ordinary soap serves it purpose very well.
@OP
Personally I use Harmony Fruit Soap - I so much love the assorted fragrance of different fruits it has.

M..Sc Finance is more specialized than MBA for Investment analyst.
OP, commercial banks may not have all those investment majors to calculate investment ratios. Banking is a very conservative profession/industry in the sense that it follows the same pattern of rules, even if you are a GCE O'LEVEL holder, if you are working in the department that handles that, over time you will master the job. Besides, central bank gives a strict set of rules of ratios and specification of investment to commercial banks and varies the ratios from time to time.
Where Investment banking are practised in Nigeria are Issuing Houses like StanbicIBTC, BGL, Vetiva, Meristem, etc and combine CIS (stockbrokers) with M.Sc Finance, or CIS & ICAN to position yourself for the industry or any related jobs that may come your way. Be fast to enroll

jaki006: MERISTEM Securities, they even have an online platform that allow u to trade directly www.meritrade.com
Reality is that it is pretty difficult to run stockbroking house without much capital thus the integrity issues many houses encounter as small one man business. Consequently, the good stockbroking houses would easily be found among the big firms like FBN, IBTC, UBA, BGL, etc. Unfortunately, they have no place for small investors with their min. account opening balance in the range of millions. From my research Meristem is good, their Meritrade package/platform accepts account opening with N50,000. It is 100% online: money deposit, buy and sell orders, viewing of stock position, equally fast and transparent enough. You can open account by yourself online by scanning and attaching required documents. Go to their website and call their toll free customers care line, and thank me for this Info.

Education / Re: The Fallen Standard Of Education In Nigeria by aeu1: 9:07pm On Nov 24, 2013
If an award was to be given, this writer will win,(check the highlighted portion below) why?, agreed, we have all made good analysis of the problem and suggestions on the way forward, but the MAIN PROBLEM with our decaying education system is the COMPLETE INABILITY to diagnose the exact problem that is actually wrong with the education sector. It is amazing that parents, students, public analysts, policy makers, government, consultants don't have a REALISTIC CLUE on the way forward - period.
What then is the the Problem?
Answer: The EXACT Problem with our educational system is the widely accepted ILLUSION that education is all about training everybody to end up as an academic!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Often times teachers are entirely blamed for poor performance of students on subjects at school. But the reality is that a sizeable proportion of the population in our society in particular have no actual need whatever for academic education beyond BASIC EDUCATION i.e JSS 3 (at the moment). Humans are innately endowed with either: NUMERATE or LITERARY or VOCATIONAL SKILLS (the numerate inclined are good in calculations, the literally endowed are good/creative writers and the vocationally gifted are good with working with hands; though some can combine some or all the areas perfectly or partially) The majority, after basic education should be FORMALLY EDUCATED/TRAINED on VOCATIONAL SKILLS/EDUCATION - where they rightly belong and where they can realise their potentials and destiny. Before then, VOCATIONAL EDUCATION ACCREDITATION & CERTIFICATION should be put in place and vocations such as tailoring, mechanics, buildings, crafts, woodworks, furniture, etc should not regarded as options for school drop outs but as a standard. Certificates for this vocational skills should serve the purposes of evidence of graduation from training, empowerment for practice, an acceptable ticket for employment and furthering to advanced/higher vocational training and acceptable for admission to undertake related academic course in the university. University education are meant to groom candidates with flair for academic/scholarly and management grade professionals - and everybody in a generation cannot be educated scholars in a country!!!! In Africa, we don't know actually what a university is and what role it suppose to play in the society, even Professors don't know it, just cross check ASUU prescription for the universities system.
Our education system should flow accordingly: Basic Education -- Vocational Education/Technical Education/Senior Secondary -- Advanced or Professional Vocational Education/University
It takes a total reinvention and revamping of our education structure to accomplish anything meaningful. Accordingly, aside regular schools, professional bodies such as ICAN (Institute of Chartered Accountants on Nigeria), COREN - for Engineers , and even new ones should be established (such as Automobile Technicians Institute, Builders Institute, etc) to also register and train and certify vocational and professional skills with their recognised certificate graded in hierarchy to demonstrate the level of skills just as academic certificates. Any student that cannot cope with senior secondary level of education should be withdrawn and drafted to vocational education arm of the school - in a system where senior secondary and vocational education run alongside each other.

NEED FOR SEPARATE EXTERNAL AND PROFESSIONAL EXAMINATION CENTERS
Hosting External examinations such as WAEC, NECO, JAMB, etc has been completely rubbished because schools write examinations answers on the board for students to copy in 99% of the schools that serve as exams centers. It is true that most schools don't meet the requirements to even host these exams in the first instance. To stop this nonsense, every state should be provided with about 5 - 20 digital examination centers that are fully computerised and monitored with robust biometric and electronic spy surveillance to complement the physical invigilators to make it foul proof and tight system devoid of cheating. Exams such as WAEC or GCE can be taken anytime from January to December. A candidate desirous to take a particular exam will book in advance and obtained an allotted schedule for such an exams by the discretion of the examination center. Just as exams answers scrips are marked and reviewed, the video documenting the examination invigilation recording would be replayed and ascertained OK before results are released and invigilators would certainly live up to expectation since every act in the exams hall would be relayed both real-time and recorded basis. This will automatically make examination result an authentic reflection of the performance of candidates. Certainly, exams malpractice can be stamped out

sholay2011: @OP....This is a very nice topic! But don't be disappointed, many NLers won't be interested in a brain-tasking thread like this where unmeaningful contributions can quickly be pointed out unlike threads on celebrities' marriage, fashion style, secret lives, scandals and music videos where even the dumbest person can destructively criticise with cynic comments just to 'announce' him or herself on NL.

So, what is the way forward? These are my suggestions:

1. Nigerians have a bad orientation as regards most things that pertain to education. They would rather allow a gifted child waste some years in a tertiary institution just because we are certificate-obsessed in this country. Tertiary education shouldn't be meant for everybody! It's not every child that has the intellectual capacity/ interest/passion to go into courses that require University education. After secondary school level, wards should be given the opportunity to diversify. Vocational training should be encouraged and not looked upon with disdain. Then, the academically inclined people who also have passion for research would be the ones gracing the four walls of our tertiary institutions; dexterous children can learn vocational skills and become experts; talented ones can go to music and film schools etc. The government should also organise various symposia and programmes to reorientate the populace so those that didn't attend a tertiary institution are not frowned upon. Then, let's see if those that apply for UME and so on won't reduce. The desperation to cut corners just to get an admission would be reduced since we are now aware that academics is not the only 'way'.

2. I will still emphasize on the reorientation again of Nigerians towards the issues of University and Polytechnics. The latter shouldn't be treated as an inferior learning centre to the former. Employers should please take note.

3. Scholarships should be used to encourage students interested in the academic field especially the indigent ones. And some specific disciplines should be encouraged for a positive result on the macroeconomic level. The government constantly preaches that youths should go into agriculture, yet, there are no 'incentives' in place to even encourage those that are studying agriculture-related courses in schools. Most agric students are made to feel inferior to students of 'professional courses' whereas they should be encouraged so they can develop the little they learn into solid agricultural practice. Educational shows should be equally encouraged. I am not anti-entertainment, but most of the shows/competitions that grace our screens are singing and talent shows. Educational shows like the Zain Africa Challenge should be encouraged.

4. Needless to say, lecturers and teachers in all educational levels (not just those that have a union called ASUU, ASUP etc.) should be 'treated well' in terms of payment but still, money shouldn't be the main driving force of an individual that wants to devote a portion ot his or her life to passing knowledge to young, brilliant minds and raising world leaders. It should be passion and the fulfillment enjoyed in doing what the person loves. Therefore, teachers and lecturers should be seriously drilled before they are employed to see if they are fit for the job. Some lack patience and we soon hear of flogging of erring students to coma etc. The teaching job is a serious job as much as that of a health personnel and should be treated as such.

I will be back with more points later...I am hungry. #Pounded yam and Okro tinz# grin wink

Treasury Bills are debt certificate issued by a sovereign state. Usually, it is issued in tranches, it has:
Tenor - date of maturity, 30, 90, 180, 270 days or 3, 5, 7, 10, 15, 21 years maturity.
Interest rate or coupon: This fluctuates, in recent years, it ranges between 10%-15%.
Safety: In principle, it is regarded as the most safe investment because. it is believed that government can always have money to repay thru taxes, printing of currency, further borrowings or grants/aids.
Method of Sales/Redemption: The central bank and debt management office in Nigeria issues the TB bi-weekly and sells to & through commercial banks. Just Approach your bank. Most banks require a minimum of 100k to purchase. But banks would want to convince you to fix the money with them, ignore them and remain resolute. Once your mandate has been taken
your account would be credited with the interest and the principal sum would be refunded at maturity. You need to renew the process at maturity.
Risk: Inflation may reduce the purchasing power of your money over time at times of economic recession since what you will get is fixed but guaranteed.
Note that there are indirect ways of investing in fixed income market. This is through MUTUAL FUNDS. What mutual funds do is to aggregate the contributions of many subscribers to invest under the discretion of the fund manager who is a professional investment analyst that constantly studies the market to determine the right investment options that brings good returns and minimize risks to the investment. mutual funds are specialized. ie, we have MF for shares and for fixed income markets and ones that combine both. At times they offer lower minimum investment requirement for people that have small investment capital. First Capital ( a subsidiary of First Bank) is a good, reliable and recommend mutual fund operator ( pls I'm not their agent, but satisfied customer) Kindly google out their details and contact if interested.
Thanks and God bless you
