Manchester City footballer Benjamin Mendy Confirms Sleeping With Over 10,000 Women

Manchester City footballer Benjamin Mendy raped a young woman then told her “it’s fine, I’ve had sex with 10,000 women”, a jury has heard.

Mendy is accused of attacking the woman, 24 the time, at his home in Mottram St Andrew, Cheshire, in October 2020.


He is also accused of the attempted rape of another woman, aged 29 at the time, who claimed the footballer also attacked her at his home two years before.

Mendy, who is standing trial at Chester Crown Court, denies both charges.


The jury, which was comprised of six women and six men, has been told by trial Judge Stephen Everett, the Recorder of Chester, that Mendy was found not guilty of sexual offences alleged by other women after a trial that ended in January this year.

Tinubu Forces More Than 100 Generals, Rear Admirals, Air Vice Marshals To Voluntarily Retire

A little over 100 Generals in the Armed Forces of Nigeria comprising Major Generals, Brigadiers General and some Colonels have been told to proceed on retirement by the military authorities.

The signal which gave July 3, 2023, as the deadline for the officers to retire from the service, cuts across the Army, Navy and Air Force and follows the appointment of new service chiefs by President Bola Tinubu.


Those given the deadline to retire voluntarily include officers of the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) Regular Courses 38, 37, and 36 and below.

World Bank Plans Additional Support Of $750m For Nigerian Electrification Project

The World Bank yesterday disclosed plans to support the Nigerian Electrification Project (NEP) with an additional $750 million.

Ms Elizabeth Huybens, World Bank’s Director of Strategy and Operations for Western/Central African Region, disclosed this shortly after inspecting a 60kw solar-powered mini grid in Kilankwa II, a settlement in Kwali Area Council of the FCT.


Daily Trust reports that the initial $350m grant expires in August, 2023.


NEP, which is administered by the Rural Electrification Agency (REA) and funded by the World Bank, is a nationwide initiative aimed at delivering energy access to underserved communities.

I Might Not Have Won But It Will Go Down In History That I Contested Against Wike – Tonto Dikeh Brags

The Rivers State deputy governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress in the 2023 election and popular Nollywood actress, Tonto Dikeh, said on Saturday she would not stop contesting the election until she realised her ambition.

She said her chances of governing the oil-rich state in the future were both high and slim because politics is dirty.

Dikeh stated these in an interview with journalists in Abuja during the GOTNI national leadership conference, organised by its National Leadership Centre with the theme, ‘Leadership for sustainability.’

She said, “One of the things I learnt (in contesting the election) is resilience and never giving up. I know after four years, they will forget about me and that, ‘she is not going to come back.’ But I am going to come back. Every four years, I am going to come back. I will come back and I will be in their faces. I will be coming back to the contest.

“My chances (of becoming governor) are high and slim because politics is dirty. It’s not going to be free and fair. (Nyesom) Wike’s candidate didn’t win free and fair. So I don’t expect politics to be free and fair, but I expect that, as someone said, having a lion’s heart requires taking the lion’s share.

“I won’t care what they think about my position, I will keep having the lion’s share, whether it is my personal life or politics, I am here to stay and they have no choice but to accept it.”

President Bola Tinubu says a naval officer once slapped him for overcharging him unintentionally when he was a taxi driver in the United States.

The president made this known as his shared stories of humble beginning in a biography published on the back page of a national daily.

The biography titled, ‘Tinubu: My life as gypsy cab driver in the US’, was authored by Nigeria’s seasoned journalist, Mike Awoyinfa.

The naira yesterday depreciated N765.13 per dollar in the Investors and Exporters (I&E) window.

Data from FMDQ showed that the indicative exchange rate for the window rose to N765.13 per dollar from N763.17 per dollar on Wednesday, indicating N1.96 depreciation for the naira.


Similarly, the naira depreciated by N14 in the parallel market yesterday.

Vanguard findings from black market traders showed that the exchange rate for the market rose to N772 per dollar from N758 per dollar on Wednesday.

A cyber security expert, Dr. Chibuike Ugwoke, on Thursday, alleged that the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, uploaded the picture of a book on its results viewing portal, IReV, instead of results of the presidential election that held on February 25.

Ugwoke, testified before the Presidential Election Petition Court, PEPC, sitting in Abuja, as the eight witness, PW-8, in the case the candidate of Labour Party, LP, Mr. Peter Obi, filed to nullify President Bola Tinubu’s election.


Though the PW-8, who was described as an expert witness, commenced his evidence on Wednesday, however, the court deferred his cross-examination after the Respondents complained that they needed time to study his statement on oath.


Consequently, at the resumed proceedings on Thursday, he was recalled to the witness box, even as all the Respondents took turns to grill him before the Justice Haruna Tsammani-led five-member panel of the court.


Aside from INEC, other Respondents in the matter, are; President Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima and the All Progressives Congress, APC.

A.S Roma manager, Jose Mourinho, has been handed a four-match ban by UEFA for insulting referee, Anthony Taylor during the Europa League final.

Recall that Roma played against Sevilla in the Europa League final on May 31, 2023.

HE Department of State Services (DSS) and the Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation (OAGF) have explained their opposition to the bail application filed by the suspended Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Godwin Emefiele.

Their reasons were contained in the counter-affidavits they filed before the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court sitting in Abuja.


The DSS warned that the suspended CBN boss, if admitted to bail, could interfere with its investigations if admitted to bail.

The OAGF specifically dismissed speculations that Emefiele was being held for terrorist-related crimes. It also said the CBN boss’ detention has nothing to do with neither his foray into partisan politics, nor the botched naira redesign policy.


In its counter-affidavit, the DSS said that those linked to the CBN boss in the course of the investigation have gone underground and ought to be traced and arrested to enable a successful prosecution.

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has asked President Bola Tinubu to change the newly assented Students Loans Act to grant for indigent students.

“This would have been better if we are giving it to those set of students who are very poor, it should be called a grant, not a loan,” ASUU National President, Prof Emmanuel Osodeke said on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics programme today.

“It should be called a grant since it is coming from the Federation Account and not that (after) these people have access it and when they are graduating, they have heavy loads behind them and within two years, if they don’t pay, they go to jail. That’s why we’re talking about collective bargaining, you have views from all the sides.”

Ex-governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, has revealed that he was poisoned and flown out of Nigeria when he was governor of the state.

Ex-Imo state governor, Rochas Okorocha, has escaped assassination by hoodlums last Friday along Ihube community on the Okigwe- Enugu expressway way.

Okorocha spoke in brief about the attack, on Sunday, when he attended the birthday celebration of the Imo state Governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Samuel Anyanwu, at Amaimo, Ikeduru council area of the state.

Nana was born to the prestigious family of Alhaji Usman Alkali, based in Kano State, and is an English Language and Literature graduate from the University of Maiduguri. Says powerful cabals operating from Abuja behind bunkering

Former Niger Delta militant, Alhaji Asari Dokubu, Friday, said over 99 per cent of oil theft in the country is carried out by the army and navy.


Dokubo also alleged that the people perpetuating oil bunkering in the Niger Delta region are powerful cabals most times operating from Abuja with the entitlement mentality

Speaking to State House correspondents after meeting behind closed doors with President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, Dokubo said that the reason behind his visit was to give words of encouragement to the President for his actions and pronouncements since he assumed office.


According to him, “We discussed the issues of security and oil theft in Niger Delta. Myself and my brothers assured Mr. President that there will be no more oil theft in the Niger Delta.”


He further said, “The military is at the centre of oil theft. 99 per cent of oil theft can be traced to the Nigeria military, the army and the navy.

“The army and navy intimidate the Civil Defence that have the responsibility to protect the oil facilities. The main culprits are the army and the navy.


“There are notorious army commanders that are kingpins in the oil theft. The military men are busy stealing. The insurgents are harvesting from Nigeria military and police to further their criminality “

The former militant further disclosed that ‘his people’ are deployed in different parts of the country maintaining peace, adding that it was his ‘people’ that have made it possible for Nigerians to travel from Abuja to Kaduna and vice versa.


He said the President has promised a decisive action to make sure that this does not continue.

“I volunteered to help to see to an end this evil. I can take bullet for Tinubu,” he said.

57 Illegal Refining Sites In Rivers Bombarded, Oil Thieves Arrested In Military Incursions

The Defence Headquarters says troops of Operation Delta Safe (OPDS) have destroyed 57 illegal refining sites and apprehended 16 suspected oil thieves in the last two weeks.

The Director, Defence Media Operation, Maj.-Gen. Musa Danmadami, said this on Thursday in Abuja at the bi-weekly news conference on the operations of the armed forces.


Danmadami said the troops had sustained the tempo in the war against oil theft, illegal refineries and other criminal activities through aggressive raid, patrol and clearance operations amongst others.


He said that 27 wooden boats, 158 storage tanks, 149 ovens and eight dugout pits were discovered and destroyed within the period.
