TV/MoviesRe: Nigerian Films Are Always The Same Story. by afrobeat: 5:54pm On Mar 30, 2006
babwilms:
Its only the english home videos that are of the same story most of the time. But the yoruba movies those not fit into this category and i could mention aa lot of yoruba movies that are different in all ways and brings out suspense and sighs of u. I will name few of them.

(ti oluwa ni ile, OKO, AYE JOBELE, ILE, ORI, OWO BLOW) A LOT MORE. Thats why the yoruba home videos are much prefered to the english ones
I totally agree with you on this point

I think that those of us who only watch the English language movies are missing out on a lot of good Nigerian movies. I have heard that the Yoruba movies can be pretty good

Anything that depicts Africa as a jungle is better welcomed by western media. The fact is we're to blame for this kind of image. If we were a progressive continent, a matrix of solid R&grin like Asia, we won't get this kind of demeaning portrayal.

I'll watch Critical Assignment to see what it's about.

To Oasis:
The Media will do whatever they want with the information they have. You wrote that If we were a progressive continent, a matrix of solid R&grin like Asia, we won't get this kind of demeaning portrayal

I absolutely disagree. First of all there are countries in Asia that are worse that Nigeria check out the facts about Uzbekistan, Kyrgyztan, Mongolia, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Laos, Nepal and others. These countries are not better than Nigeria. In some respects we are even far ahead of them. There are about 130 million Nigerians in the world, people come across us all the time. Everyone knows some one from Nigeria. If you are making a film about an African country, You want people to relate to the movie so you will choose to use a country that people are most likely to identify with so why not choose Nigeria. We are arguably the most known African country in the world.
The western media chooses to portray us the way they do because we are easy prey. Yes granted that if African countries were better they would have less material to work with. But there are worse countries than us but nobody picks on them the way the pick on Nigeria. There are countries in the Caribbean that are wack. But everyone thinks the Caribbean is all nice and dainty. Even sef Oprah did a show which showed that there were 30 million Americans living in poverty (i.e. third world conditions). The population of Ghana is 21,029,853 but yet Ghana is thought by the west to be a backward country and America is the greatest country.

Mate, don't believe the western media, don't believe the hype.
TV/MoviesRe: Hollywood Movies That Showcase Nigeria by afrobeat: 4:19pm On Mar 30, 2006
Neither of those movies were shot in Nigeria.
Tears of the Sun was shot in Hawaii

The issue is that if you are a film maker you would want to make a movie that was a s believable as possible. None of those movies were believable because of their inaccuracies. Bad custumes, accents, location, everything. Other nationalities complain when they makes movies about them that are inaccurate. Therefore we can and should complain about these movies that suppossedly portray Nigeria if they are inaccurate.

Anyway, Mr Johnson was a pretty good movie. It had a Nigerian setting and Nigerian actors. Pierce Brosnan was in it. It is kinda old though.

Isn't it fake money?

I really think it is stupid for us to be spraying dollars at Nigerian functions in Nigeria. It does nothing for our economy

CareerRe: Female Boss or Male Boss? by afrobeat: 4:15pm On Mar 29, 2006
Is this really a topic for debate/ discussion?
a boss is a boss is a boss
a bad boss is a bad boss is a bad boss
a good boss is a good boss is a good boss

What does sex have to do with it?
The next thing I know someone will be asking if you prefer a Jewish boss or a Black boss
CareerRe: Boss Is Making My Work Unbearable Because I Said "No" by afrobeat: 4:05pm On Mar 29, 2006
If you are going to confront him about the issue make sure you take a tape recorder with you and hide it in your bag. Record any conversation you have with him if it can help you plead your case. ( Yes, I am for real)
Also write everything down. As in write everything he does that is not right on a piece of paper. Write down the names of anybody that was around when the incident took place. And sign and date the paper. keep a record of everything.
What your boss is doing is not right. If you choose to pursue legal action, you will have all the documents and recorded tapes needed to prove your case.
Or else just start looking for another job or transfer to another department

RomanceRe: In A Steady Relationship, When Can You Drop The Condom? by afrobeat: 3:45pm On Mar 29, 2006
As far as I am concerned don't drop the condom, in fact add birth control to it!! Until marriage. And make sure you get tested before you get married. And if when you are married you suspect that your spouse is cheating then start using the condom again. I have heard of women who got HIV from their cheating husbands.
RomanceRe: Why Do Guys Flirt? by afrobeat: 3:33pm On Mar 29, 2006
Why do men flirt?
Because everybody flirts, Women flirt too
I don't think flirting is the same as cheating on a girlfreind

Why do men cheat?
I don't know. Maybe because they can. Maybe because when they do, women make excuses for them by saying that all men do it. Then they forgive their cheating men because of that lame excuse. Maybe if women had a lower tolerance level for cheating men then there would be less men cheating on their girlfreinds/wives
