AjaanaOka:True, I grew up in Enugu state too. Nsukka has a tiny influx of the middle belt which isn't Igbo. I honestly don't understand Obete as a name with an Igbo meaning, but correct me if I'm wrong. And I mean even if it is, that Ishilove girl is free as air to NOT be Igbo, I really don't give a Bleep about what she thinks. She's being a nuissance here and I'm only trying to learn about the relationship between all Igbos in different states. If she isn't of Igbo decent as she claims, she should back the F down and mind her business. I am asking the Igbo decents who for some reason doesn't want to associate with their roots. 2 Likes |

Ishilove:Philomena Obeta, when I posted this thread, I made it clear that there are other tribes living in Delta state. I am NOT saying that everyone in Delta state is Igbo. Thank you for posting your name. You are clearly NOT Igbo or an Igbo descendant. To be Igbo, you have to have at least an Igbo last name which you Don't have. So stop causing problems between real Igbos from your state and other States by posting your hatred here. I believe you are very happy now, since you verified and have proven that you are not Igbo, you can now go back to your benin ancestry that is truly where you belong. I wanted to hear responses from Igbos in Delta state. |

Amaghikwa m na ajubuola ya bu ajuju mbu, ya mere m jiri jukwa ya ozo. And as I said previously, I am interested in this topic because despite Igbo-inclined I am, I found love in the eyes of an Igbo man from Delta state and I'm trying to research on his origin before discovering all these desxcrepancies. I am far away from dividing Igbos and it is not my aim at all. We have an issue here that some of our brothers don't want to associate with us, and we can't solve it by shying away from it. It's better tackled openly but not forcefully. In thhe end, we can't force anyone to be Igbo but at least we would know how deep this has eaten. |

I love him more than anything and with my whole heart and he sees himself as Igbo. I was just wondering why - from my research - some of the Igbos there don't know their left from their right. So feel free to attach yourself to any tribe you care more about. My question is clearly directed to IGBOS from Delta state who think that we Igbos from other states hate them and we don't. |

Even yesterday a Delta-Igbo friend of mine corrected a yoruba guy who called him Igbo, saying he's from Delta state. And Ii hope you know that the chairman of Ohaneze ndi is Delta Igbo, so I don't see how they are treated as outcast if one of them bears the title of one of the largest Igbo organizations. |

Hello my beautiful people, I was just wondering about this. My boyfriend is from Delta state and speaks Igbo and also has an Igbo last name. But my question is, why is it that some Delta-Igbos try to say that they are not Igbos? Why do they hate being associated with their Igbo ancestry? Don't tell me that Igbos don't like Delta-Igbos because that shouldn't be an issue, once you are Igbo, you are Igbo and have every right to claim your Igboness lol... And by the way, I don't know any Igbos that hate Delta Igbos, it's always Delta-igbos trying to make it clear that they are not Igbo Just like Mr. Sunday Olise. I understand that there are other tribes in Delta State that are not Igbo but since Nigerian cultural system is a patriarchy, there is virtually no way that you can get an Igbo surname unless your forefathers were Igbos and since Delta state has always been in the South Eastern part of Nigeria, it is very possible that the Igbos were settled there even before the so-claimed migration from the Benin-empire? I love Delta Igbos but I don't know why they dissociate themselves from their tribe. Some of them say their Igbo language is different but what they are actually referring to is their dialect, if a man from Awka in Anambra state speaks his native awka dialect a man from Eziagu in Enugu state may not understand it but they are both Igbos. I don't fully understand all of my boyfriend's dialect when he speaks in his Agbor dialect but I can piece the words together and make out the sentence... It's Igbo based. I don't have this issue with my boyfriend though, I was just researching on his origin and culture of his people and came across many delta-igbos claiming they are not Igbo. If your surname is Igbo but you don't think you're Igbo enough Why is that? 2 Likes |

Romance / Re: Kenyan Girl Has This To Say About Nigerian Guys by Afrobeau: 12:51am On May 08, 2016 |
It's really sad that a human being will do these kind of things against another, more especially to a woman who gave you her all. For those turning this to a tribal issue, you should be ashamed of yourselves. I notice that Yorubas are always trying to pick fights with Igbos. All I'll say at this point is Tiwa, TBillz and Edible Catering... if una do una own like that, how much more a kenyan woman? This is an insult to all Nigerians and you all are insulting yourselves join. That being said, I don't think Nigerian men will have their way if Kenyan woman are not running after them. And saying that Nigerian men who are romantic are fake and cons, is a big lie. They are naturally romantic. If he loves you, he will be romantic, if he doesn't love you, he could still be romantic.. so don't generalize things just like that. Nigerian boys are really romantic but that is just how they are, however, if you grew up in Nigeria/around them, you'll be able to decipher the true from the fake "romanticity" (ha! see english) And finally, something within me is telling me that a Kenyan man wrote this up to scare their women from Nigerian men, if that's the case, this is an epic fail and huge flattery, I say this because I have interacted with a few Kenyan men; once they know you are Nigerian, they get defensive and all that. They have low self esteem when they are around Nigerians. Anyways, all you bad Nigerian boys should stop o, it's not good for your health. |

If this is a regular school, I call bullshit!! This girl did her WAEC in my school and she never took any exams her mother paid for everything and her results were arranged for her so that she can get into the pageant contest. It's actually an insult to those who actually studied for this if she just bought this 2nd position whatever... I don't believe any academic achievement she make, as far as I'm concerned, it happened before my eyes... she bought that result |

Lol, it's obvious that the reason she married him is because he is popular and rich. If he was an average guy with his face like that, she probably wouldn't have given him a second thought. And she is maybe in her forties, if she refused him, where will she find such an offer again? lol,... people are not stupid. She said she refused to give him her number but asked him to find it. lol, she was interested in him that's why she gave him that hope. If she wanted to brush him off, she would have just said no. Lol... nothing wrong with that but she should stop pretending that she was hard to get. Lol, she liked him because he was rich.. nothing wrong with it...... |
Religion / Re: Christians Colonized Us In Africa, Undeniable Fact But How? (pics) by Afrobeau: 3:16pm On Mar 27, 2016 |
Christianity did not colonize Africa. Europeans did for business and commerce. From this logic, Islam terrorize the world and kill innocent people and are still doing it today, still the message of mohammed is peace?? People should stop justifying these terrorist acts. Slavery is called out as slavery. Terrorism is terrorism. Islam is the only religion that kills a human being in the name of their evil god and still claim that their religion is a religion of peace 1 Like |

There's another human heart involved too, not just the good-looking one's. If you aren't ready to be married and put in effort to make it work. Then stay single! |

milychocs:I understand completely what you are saying my dear. I know about the iju ase and my parents will do that at the appointed time. I see Delta Igbos as Igbos just that I have come across some of them who blatantly state their dislike for being associated with Igbo. They try to dissociate themselves. My fiance sees himself as Igbo and has no problems in that aspect at all. But one of the other reasons I asked here is I grew up in Nigeria but I didn't travel around a lot. I understand that Delta state has so many different cultures/ethnicities blended together so I wanted to know if I can get a general glimpse of how the culture of the delta Igbos are. I don't know if they are the same or slightly different. But I do not in anyway think the Delta Igbos are less Igbos than the rest of the Igbos just that when you see them denying their Igbo heritage just like Sunday Ogochukwu Oliseh of super eagles made it very clear during his speech sometime ago that he is NOT Igbo.. It just makes you wonder. Someone shares the same name with you and the name has the same meaning; they speak the same language and you understand though with with a different dialect. Just like being from Enugu state, or Anambra or Imo state. When people from these states speak their local dialects, other regular Igbos from other states will not understand and I see it the same way with Delta Igbos. They are just Igbos from another state, Delta state, and who speak Igbo language with their own dialect, just like every other Igbo state has their own dialect. If they don't want to be regarded as igbos, it makes no sense to me but I still respect that. However, I will let my children know that they are from the Igbo tribe because that's where they are from despite the fact that the division of states allotted us different geographical locations. Anyway.... the main point for my question is just that I wanted to get a quick glimpse into their lifestyle and the info that I got here, no matter how vague, was still helpful... I was concerned that if they see Igbos differently, I might not be very welcome by his people.. not his immediate family though since they like me... I don't know when next I'll visit Nigeria so, any tip is helpful to me. Thanks Milychocs |

walexy30:He was referring to the insult yoruba women always use to refer to Igbo girls when we all know it's not true. some yoruba girls just say igbo women are bearded to console themselves. I once met a yoruba lady at a store here in the U.S she looked so masculine and had prominent jaws and was cock-eyed too. (People has always told me that I am beautiful. I'm not boasting about it because I didn't create myself the way I am, and I also happen to be Igbo) You know what this lady told me? She said I looked yoruba and that she looked Igbo! can you believe that? The funny thing is that most Igbos I have met look more like me. I bursted out laughing when she said that because it made no sense to me that she assumed Igbo girl SHOULD look less beautiful than yoruba girls to the extent of telling me she was supposed to be Igbo while I should be yoruba. in a lot of cases that I have witnessed, it has been the other way round. |
