Foreign AffairsThe Kingdom Of Saudi Arabia Is Broke! by AfroBlue(op): 5:42am On Nov 10, 2015
Recently, over the past several months I've been reading about the economic problems facing this formally prominent OPEC member and it's challenges to stay afloat. Thirty or forty years ago who would have thought that they would one day become debtors to the international financial industry? Billions maybe even trillions of dollars in oil revenue have been squandered by this royal fiefdom.

Debt/Usury and being the keepers of the Holy Mosque does not add up! It may be too late for them to transform their economy and privatize. The debt spiral has finite/omega consequences.

Saudi Arabia to tap global bond markets as oil fall hits finances

The Saudi Aramco oil installation known as 'Pump 3' in the desert near the oil-rich area Al-Khurais

Saudi Arabia has decided to tap international bond markets for the first time, in a sign of the damage lower oil prices are inflicting on its public finances.

Saudi officials say the kingdom could increase debt levels to as much as 50 per cent of gross domestic product within five years, up from a forecasted 6.7 per cent this year and 17.3 per cent in 2016.

Work on finalising the bond programme is likely to start in January, according to a senior official. While banks have yet to receive any mandates, some lenders have already sent unsolicited proposals to guide the kingdom in approaching international markets.

The authorities are in the meantime looking to set up a debt management office to help oversee the process of raising local and international bonds.

“Debt levels are still very low — tapping international debt markets will be an important way to fund spending without absorbing liquidity from domestic banks,” said Monica Malik, chief economist at Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank.

The decision to tap bond markets underscores the impact on the kingdom’s revenues from the plunge in the oil price, from $115 a barrel last year to $50 now, as well as Riyadh’s expensive military intervention in Yemen.

Over the past year, Saudi Arabia has seen its foreign reserves decline from last year’s high of $737bn to a three-year low of $647bn in September.

Riyadh started to issue domestic bonds in the summer to fund its budget deficit. The government could continue to issue domestically for another 12 to 18 months, officials say, but it will need to diversify globally to leave liquidity available for private sector lending.

“Saudi Arabia is not in crisis,” said a senior official. “We can borrow, we have reserves, we are working on a revenue generation programme.”

The decision to issue bonds will be welcomed by the International Monetary Fund, which has called on Saudi Arabia to tackle its fiscal crisis by raising debt, as well as by trimming spending and boosting revenues.

Standard & Poor’s last month reduced Saudi Arabia’s ratings from ‘AA-/A-1+’ to ‘A+/A-1’, saying it could lower them again “if the government did not achieve a sizeable and sustained reduction in the general government deficit”.

The downgrade angered the kingdom’s finance ministry, which described it as “rushed” and “unjustified”.

Meanwhile, Moody’s, in an annual review earlier this month, did not change Saudi Arabia’s Aa3 stable rating, saying its fiscal position was weakening, but “still relatively strong”.

But it said Riyadh’s creditworthiness would be affected without further expenditure cuts or increases in non-oil revenue. Oil currently accounts for 80 per cent of government receipts.

Saudi officials say they are seeking to reduce the kingdom’s dependence on hydrocarbons through a combination of debt issuance, subsidy reform, taxes and privatisation.

Officials said Riyadh had introduced cuts to departmental budgets and tightened financial management, requiring approval for all projects worth more than Sr100m, even if they had been previously approved. It has also halted discretionary spending that typically rises in the fourth quarter.

One Saudi official said overspending departments were now restricted from making any more payments to contractors until their budgets are set next year.

Officials are not predicting a severe drop in non-oil GDP growth next year. But business observers say the impact on the economy of lower spending has undermined confidence in a private sector that is heavily reliant on government expenditure. Tighter control over ministerial spending has translated into delays in payments to suppliers.

Non-oil growth is projected to slow to 2.9 per cent this year from 5 per cent last year, according to the IMF.

“One riyal delayed has more than a riyal impact,” said a Riyadh-based banker.

40 years later African Village still stands.

More than 35 years later, Iya Oba Adaramola still remembers the night in 1975 she turned off U.S. 21 to begin a new life with hundreds of others in the woods in Sheldon.

"We came in the middle of the night," Adaramola said. "The road was not as wide as it is now, and the trees hung over the road and met in the middle. I thought to myself, 'I'll be leaving in the morning.' When I woke up the next morning, it was so beautiful and peaceful. I didn't leave."

Adaramola is one of about 25 people still living at the Oyotunji African Village in Sheldon, which celebrates its 40th anniversary this year.
The village was founded in 1970 by Oba Adefunmi I -- a Detroit native born as Walter Eugene King -- and fashioned for African-Americans around the West African Yoruba culture that originated in Nigeria.
Adaramola, who is known as the village's queen mother and taught in the village's school, said a chance to re-connect with her heritage brought her from New York City to the remote 10-acre compound in 1975, and that keeps her and others there now.
"I was looking for peace and contentment and just gravitated toward this place," Adaramola said.
The village has long been a place of curiosities -- animal sacrifices, ritual facial scarring and the polygamy of Oba Adefunmi I -- and once drew national attention, including a crew from "60 Minutes" in 1986.
Oba Adefunmi I's claim that his village was an independent nation, not part of the United States, further fueled speculation the Oyotunji community was evading taxes or harboring a cult. Adaramola scoffs."The traditions we have, the customs we practice, this is an African village. This is how we would be living had we not been taken from Africa," Adaramola said. Adefunmi died in February 2005 at 76. His son now serves as the village's oba, or king.
At one point, Oyotunji was home to about 200 people, but the population has dwindled in recent years. Adaramola said the rigors of life within the self-sustained village were largely to blame for the decline."At first, it was a thrill," Adaramola said. "Like, 'Wow, this is an African village where we can practice African customs, take African names and speak an African language.' But it wasn't easy. We didn't have electricity for a while. You had to chop wood, heat your home and feed your children."Oyotunji suffered another setback last year after the death of Chief Adenibi S. Edubi Ifamuyiwa Ajamu, a Chicago native who was the second man to arrive at the village. Ajamu was a chief and elder priest before his death in December.Adaramola said Oyotunji has rebounded from Ajamu's death, and those living there continue their mission of keeping the Yoruba culture alive in the Lowcountry.
"It's always difficult to lose a member of the community, but we're taught that there is a line of communication between the living and the dead," Adaramola said. "We can keep that line of communication open by making offers to them. They're buried here, so they're always a part of us and with us."

Ivory Coast bans skin-whitening cream

http://www.bbc.com/news/world-africa-32628240

Ivory Coast has banned skin-whitening creams because of health concerns, the health ministry says.

It says "cosmetic lightening and hygiene creams... that de-pigment the skin... are now forbidden".

Whitening creams have been popular for years among young women - and some men - across Africa, who believe they make them more beautiful.

But medical experts say they may cause cancer, diabetes, severe skin conditions and other diseases.

"The number of people with side-effects caused by these medicines is really high," Christian Doudouko, a member of Ivory Coast's pharmaceutical authority, was quoted as saying by the AFP news agency.

Agenda 2030: Bankrupting the Third World, One Country at a Time

http://statelesshomesteading.com/agenda-2030-bankrupting-the-third-world-one-country-at-a-time/

The destiny of Africa has, for centuries, been usurped by conquerors; whether it be the East India Company’s mercantile slave trade, the imperialistic campaigns of Cecil John Rhodes, or the IMF’s economic hitmen of today, the eugenic aims of the Anglo-American Establishment towards the people of Africa (and the vast natural resources they sit upon) has continued unabated for hundreds of years.

Agenda 2030 is set to take the subjugation of Africa to previously unimagined heights, with the rest of the Third World to follow shortly thereafter.

GOH! There's a 'whites only' restaurant at Nigerdock, Apapa?
Information reaching me now is that there's a 'Whites only' restaurant in the premises of Nigerdock, Apapa, Lagos. The British management of the corporation has dedicated one particular restaurant to their white staff and all blacks dine in all others.

Nigerdock is owned by the people of Nigeria but managed by a British group.

This is wrong, right? I'm putting this out here so the right authorities can go investigate...
