Leyqute: ![]() Exactly. I was thinking the same thing. He didn’t delay at all. Any other person he will first check if he can score himself and the delay might cost us the chance. |
larride:That is what happened. Most of the money that had accrued to them before contributory pension started was somehow lost. Those that were hardest hit were those that had worked many years before 2007. It is not out of the ordinary for a pensioner in Lag to be getting half what his/her Ogun partner is getting. The more your work experience predated 2007 the bigger your loss. |
larride:Yeah, she has. I just asked her and she told me they actually contacted her that it was ready last December, but she wasn't in the country. That is still about 2.5yrs since retirement though. According to her it takes about 2 years to move up the waitlist so i suspect 2021 retirees are yet to be paid. Na turn by turn. Another thing is that Lagos State short-changed them. Their colleagues who retired in other states like Ogun, Oyo, Ondo e.t.c are getting far more. Something to do with one conversion they did some years back (around 2007) in the pension scheme. Several millions disappeared into the air for everybody when they moved over to contributory pension. |
larride:My mum is sitting beside me. Retired at Director level in the Ministry of Education in 2020. She has not been paid 1 kobo. How long does it take for the money to come out bros. ![]() |
larride:What about ensuring that doctors are paid proper allowances, have adequate equipment, and have much better work conditions. The people will benefit this way. Trying to force them to stay back will ultimately not benefit anyone. |
larride:Most doctors that japa do it between 4-10 years after school. Remember that internship and NYSC already take 2 years. This 5-year thing will not achieve anything apart from creating a bad narrative for the government and strengthening the resolve of doctors that plan to japa. Many will japa at Year 0 and find places to carry out their internship outside the country. The rest will japa in Year 5 (which they were going to do anyway). It was a poorly thought-out idea. |
izzou:There are so many reasons why this policy will not give you the expected outcome. Let me just list a few. 1) You don't become a paediatrician within 5 years of graduation, so this bill if passed into law WILL NOT ensure that there is a paediatrician for your child. 2) The average work experience of doctors japaing is probably about 5 or more years already so the actual positive effect of this bill in terms of adding to the medical work force will be minimal. Most japa doctors spend close to 5 years already in Nigeria before exiting so the only thing this bill will do is antagonize the few that want to leave early by its similarity to indentured servitude/modern slavery. 3) Even if you are abkle to keep them back for 5 years what you will get will be a situation whereby doctor exit after the 5-year period will explode beyond what we have now, leading to a situation whereby only inexperienced doctors would be left in the country. 4) You will also have some medical graduates leaving the country for other African countries (and Caribbean countries) to start work as house officers and getting their full registration after 1yr rather than wasting 5 years in Nigeria to get the same full registration. You will be losing these ones from Year 0 not Year 5. We have not mentioned the illegality involved in witholding full registration form doctors when the standard practice in all the sane parts of the world is to award full registration after completion of internship/housemanship. Then there is the fact that all other public university students are also "subsidized" so i wonder why only doctors are being targeted to bear the brunt of a failed system. If we ask now, people will say doctors' jobs are special and they need to make the sacrifice. If we ask for better conditions and pay now, the same people will say doctors are not doing any special job and should go and sit down jo. |
Roland17:The problem with hardcover is that it becomes difficult to carry them around if you ever have to move. I had to drop hundreds of books when I left Naija. That was when I realised that books are much heavier than clothes and shoes. I think the way to go is to use audiobooks generally but you can buy your most valued books as hardcover. |
larride:It takes getting used to. The voice of the person matters as well. Those monotonous robotic ones can be soporific while an engaging voice might keep you interested. How interested you are in the subject matter is also significant. Best do it while driving, that way you won’t fall asleep. Although it can be argued that one doesn’t need that distraction while driving on the rugged streets of Lagos. |
Roland17:I love hardcover books but the time to sit down and focus on one book no dey these days. Most of my reading now is through audiobooks while driving. It’s also a good time to listen to podcasts. Audiobooks and podcasts have replaced radio for me while driving. |
Ibime:By calling them Quebecans you don already offend them. |
larride:You know as e dey go. I for one will prefer those 2 to remain in the firmament where they belong. They both did their jobs probably as well as any Nigerian has ever done anything, in any field. |
Achebe was mainly a novelist. Soyinka is mainly a playwright. Each GOATED in his main field. No need to derail this place cos i have seen this movie before. |
raumdeuter:Oh ok. I will have to now to your superior knowledge in this olosho issue. |
raumdeuter:Izzou told me that some regular premium olosho in Nigeria charge up 500k to 1m for their kuntus for TDB. I think that’s quite competitive when compared to the US, UK etc. |
raumdeuter:I dey come. Let me DM Obaino to find out. |
There is a reason those guys are always reluctant to publish a breakdown of their pay. The only 3 jobs in Nigeria that have salaries that can rival 1st world countries are politician, olosho, and pastor. |
DeadPresidents:20yrs. ![]() That one na Elder Jesse. No way is he blameless. How did he do it sef? Oh it’s 10 yrs. Very possible. |
larride:Olopa lo ma ko everybody. |
DeadPresidents:What does Achebe have to do with anything? |
nihilistjnr:I got my passport there about a decade ago. I woke up early and got there at one ungodly hour like that only to meet queue that extended around the street (i am sure you know that queue). It was like some people slept outside overnight. Outside was UK but inside was Nigeria. Applicants and staff were all behaving as if we were in Festac office. "Madam, calm down", "I will deal with you", "Do you know who i am", "Oga abeg now". |
raumdeuter:Oliha died a long time ago. You are right about the problems thry face. Even American sports stars who made 100 times what some of our players made also go broke. It is a combination of relatively short money-making career, a long post-career life, and not adjusting their lifestyle after retirement. Some of them also are unlucky with bad investments and business advisers who scam them. |
Amoto94:Exactly. Many of our borders are artificial and were drawn by Europeans who didn’t care about the repercussions. |
izzou:It was an interesting discussion. Many people in the south don’t understand the structure of Northern Nigeria, which is what leads to misunderstanding. For instance, some don’t know that almost half of Hausaland is in Niger Republic, and about half of the people of Niger are Hausas. So next time when people ask why our government seems to be in support of foreigners in terms of illegal immigration, border encroachment, skirmishes you have to remember that they are not foreigners to them. |
Good old Twitter. The polling unit and Supreme Court of the Obidient cult. ![]() |
larride:Hahaha. See Format! |
BlueRayDick: ![]() Na so most of your Obidient brothers dey do na. Are you surprised? |
larride:Oh ok. I will check it. |
Spy360:Do you intentionally try to not understand things or it is an innate ability? You also have to show where i called Obi bigoted for calling anyone daddy. Audio clip that i didn't even believe was genuine until Kenneth Okonkwo put his mouth. |
larride:Are maps and calculators so expensive in Nigeria? |
Roland17, Luka is just 24 and a mere 5 years into the league. I don't think he is the problem just as MJ and Lebron were not the problem despite going almost a decade before winning their chip. Luka definitely has to improve his conditioning and defence but the major problem is the organisation that has not built the right team around him. For this season Kyrie is more of a problem than Luka. Firstly, Kyrie has had no success away from Lebron and the record shows that good teams are often worse with him. Your Celtics is a prime example. Secondly and more crucially, the Luka/Kyrie combo is not a good enough fit. Too little defence and not enough balls to create the compensatory offence. Remember they were the 4th seed when Kyrie joined. |
Spy360:You somehow always struggle to understand simple things. Choosing a Northern Muslim running mate does not guarantee victory, it is choosing a Northern Christian running mate that almost guarantees a defeat. Those are 2 different statements. |
