donjazet: Thank you! This picture below is what I'm trying to warn people of. Many people abroad here are part of the reasons we have things like these happening.
Afrodoc, raumdeuter, chic2pimp, obianojazz. Ibime Please you guys should do well to give a balanced view of things.
As you guys are sharing success stories and positive anecdotes, also do well to share the negative anecdotes.
Not one of you have told stories of the people who you know went there and failed. Please don't end up misleading people by mistake. Give the 2 sides of the story. Unless you want me to fabricate stories. I don't know any negative story that would help in balancing the narrative, apart from stories like the Naija doc who was suspended for massaging female patients BUT that has more to do with personal indiscipline than any immigration struggle. Even with the suspension the guy was still living okay. |

raumdeuter: One guy in US sef, if you heard his route to the US
Southie to Fiji to Australia to USA
Some na Malay to Europe to Canada to US.
It is never going to be easy going to a new country, but keep your eyes on the end goal
Ogbeche our mod here I remembered when he reached out to me on how to enter Europe, I directed him to ib-ime who lived in Europe. Now Ogbeche77 no send us for this forum again baba dey tell me say anytime I come Munich he go carry me go watch Bayern game on his dime
Thats someone that could have been in Nigeria now doing "Emi Lokan" Its my turn, Atiku one more time, Sai baba, etc One thing many are not thinking about is the long term prospect of the country and of the individual. Many people leaving are not leaving because of the Nigeria of now and maybe not even because of themselves, but because of potential Nigeria of tomorrow and because of their children. It does not look like the country will get better. It actually looks like things will get worse, so while you obtain your PVC you should also be planning for your individual future so your children won't ask you JAMB questions like my school mate whose father left Texas for Nigeria in 1982-1983. |

donjazet: What do you say to this man who japa'd at all cost? To apply wisdom in every decision in life. I am a doctor and when i left Nigeria i went to first one country and then another that were known for the relative ease of assimilation of doctors into the system. I applied wisdom and left the country with a plan. I didn't allow a 17yr old living abroad to tell me to stay back and help Nigeria. When people say japa they are not saying that you should wake up tomorrow and start looking for one perilous route to Afghanistan. You assess your education, work experience/skills, support system and plan both the timing and destination accordingly. A smart guy is already asking ib.ime questions about how to get into the UK. What they are saying is that to improve your chances of having a good quality of life it might be a good idea to start planning your exit from Nigeria. For instance, rather than changing that your 2010 Camry to a newer model why not use that money to execute your Japa moves. Or minimize your spending in other ways for a year or two, see what you can save up. The message is not for everybody. If you are educated, hard working, ambitious, amenable to a law-abiding lifestyle you can listen. If you are none of those things you can skip to the next message. |

donjazet: As I said earlier, success is loud, failure is silent.
Many at times, we hear of people that won millions via betting but you rarely hear is how much that particular person has lost before. The person won't tell you that the money he won hasn't even covered the one's he lost.
For every successful person here who emigrated, there is an equal number of those who emigrated and failed. But you won't see such story's here. Because everyone wants to always paint a picture of success online.
I've not heard Ibime, afrodoc or dayo talk about any single challenge they might have encountered along the way, challenges which they might have successfully scaled through but which can sink others.
So please my brothers. You must be open-eyed. You must make a completely well researched decision before making that leap. Thank you. I had sleepless nights over whether to buy BMW X5 or Mercedes Benz GLE. I successfully scaled through it but it can sink others. |

nihilistjnr: It makes a lot of sense because you're clearly not qualified to be discussing a japa message
Your parents who are clearly people of means have realised that their child is better off in a different country. Your parents....not you.
You're not a decision maker. You're not even 18 years old yet.
You just got to Canada. You don't have anything to offer. You've never held employment. You've never had to work for a living or even look for work. You're not a skilled professional who is wasting away in that shithole of a country.
That's why I brought that screenshot, because it provides the context for what I'm about to say next.
The abroad based people who have contributed to this conversation are highly qualified professionals, parents, home owners etc. In real life, we would be having this conversation with your mum and dad not with you.
I was at your exact stage in 2006. I am 35 years old now, a husband, a father, a british citizen, a multiple landlord, and can pay your schoolfees comfortably. Infact, i still sponsored my wife's masters degree 2 years ago. Im currently running my own MBA right now. This isn't to brag, but to make a point about thr opportunity the UK has given me personally.
So when I know what is possible, and I'm advising people to do thr needful, I'm not speaking from a theoretical standpoint, asking stupid questions like what happens to the people left behind - You that went to Canada this year, did you pack your whole family in your suitcase?
I'm talking to people who recognise life as an individual race, and are tired of a useless hopeless country holding back their destiny. Those are the people that I'm telling to come over here, to US, to Canada, Germany, etc, because I KNOW I made it, and so they can too.
So when a dissenting voice starts talking about Ekaete abd Abdul or whatever rubbish you were saying, it's very important to post screenshot that shed a little light on the person behind that voice, contextualising it as the voice of a 17 year old child who has no real idea about life.
You're not qualified to enter this discussion bro. Not even in the slightest.
Hian! Abeg staple justice with mercy o! |

nihilistjnr: Who said cost of living in Nigeria is low?
It's in your face here that a civil servant is telling you he doesn't go to work despite being paid a salary, doesn't pay taxes despite being funded by tax payers, illegally taps electricity and doesn't pay for it. Public services dont work as the public offices are infested with the onyemaairs of this world. It means that you have to generate your own power cos onyemaair leeching off the national grid. You have to pump your own water cos another variant of onyemaair is leeching there as well. You go to a federal hospital for health care and Dr onyemaair is not on seat for days, and in any case they dont even have the drugs you need cos onyemaair didnt pay tax, and senior onyemaair at the top is skimming the funds from junior onyemaair anyway.
I dont know if you have a family, kids, etc. I dont know if you live on your own and run a household, but living expenses relative to earnings in Nigeria are nowhere near cheap.
At least in the UK for example, your tax goes towards providning world class healthcare to you for FREE. Your kids are educated to secondary school level at a very high standard for FREE. Your roads are tarred and well maintained because you pay road tax. They even cut the grass in front of your house for FREE because that's what your council tax is there for.
I don't know who you know that is being choked to death, but sir it aint me. Put some respek on onyemaaair's name. Na loophole e dey exploit, e no kill person. |

onyemaair: Oga I am angry at the situation of Nigeria. I am indeed very angry about it. I am a salary earning civil servant in my late thirties.
I do not see a pathway to moving to another country because I am too old for that and I have family members who depend on me. Shouting at me to japa after every disaster is truly insulting to me. I choose to be optimistic that things will eventually get better. Maybe once the cabal in Nigeria dies off or the young people wake up, then things will indeed get better but for you to be shouting japa at me everytime there is a disaster here when I know I am stuck in this country is indeed insulting to me. You should also advocate for us to get it right with our leadership or lend opinions that gear towards solving the problem not just to shout japa at a civil servant like me. If you are in your late 30's you are not too late, especially if you have a degree. If it is something you are interested in you should look into relocating. Canada seems to be the place for now, but avoid the scam visa agents. |
