ChristineC: just surmised from situation on ground. Fred out, McTominay just returned to training this week, Sancho doubtful, Rashford doubtful. Pogba will most likely find a spot on the LW. that leaves VDB and Matic if Ole continue his default 4-2-3-1. Fair enough. The major decided would be where Pogba plays. If he plays LWF yes that could be the midfield pairing. Alternatively he could play in CM allowing Amaka to choose 3 from CR7, Cavani, Greenwood, Martial, Sancho. |

I cant believe we were pushing to sign longstaff.. Damnnn Brazil has activated a FIFA rule that bans a player for 5 days if his club refuses to release him for internationals. The EPL clubs are happy to pay that price cos the alternative is that they release the players but then are subject to the UK rule that demands 14 day quarantine when the players come back. |

Roland17: Doc, truthfully, I have never seen Bruno as a creator in that AM role. Do you think Ole will continue to tailor United's offense to Bruno's strengths or will he defer and build the offense around CR7? CR7 has always been the focus of every offense he has played in..If this becomes the case, will Bruno adapt/ evolve? If we stick to a 4-2-3-1 then Bruno can play the no 10 role. He averages 2.5-3.0 key passes a game so i think being creative is not the problem. The problem is when he abdicates his midfield duties to join the CF in the box. If he is able to cut down a little bit on those runs and keep up his passing then he should be okay. There was a time that people were accusing him of spamming too many through passes into the box, which means the desire to create for others is there. He just needs improve a little on his execution and feed the beast that is CR7. And of course the game will be tailored to suit CR7. There are levels to this thing. |

Hope OGS gonna start trio against Newcastle. Who will create for who? It is not by loading strikers who will be stepping on one another's toes in the box. There should be at least one creative person in the front 3. With Sancho unfit i would prefer Pogba at LWF, CR7 at CF, Greenwood at RWF with Cavani, Martial and probably Sancho on the bench. Bruno at no 10, Matic/McTom and VDB at CM with Hannibal, Lingard, Mata on the bench. |

KingAlabi: Nobody likes the Donny treatment, but if Donny can play the CDM and leave Pogba going forward then I would be super happy because a sick Donny is better than a Fred on steroids.
He had his first season of not playing and many here didn't like it, I included, but will you bench Pogba for Donny? Or Bruno?
Your coach doesn't like rotating which we also drag him here for, but we can't change that about him no matter how we drag him here.
I don't want Donny to be coming off the bench in games, I want him to be a started, but the shiit is just complicated, better still Ole would have let him go, but I guess he has plans, let see how it plays out.
But the agent continually dragging ole in the press doesn't do Donny any good. I wouldn't call it CONTINUALLY dragging. They have been relatively quiet and respectful for 12 months. Free Donny !!! |

Lo Celso and Romero no try if Spurs didn't grant them permission to travel. BEFORE the match started and actually while the Argentines were still in the hotel i saw an update that mentioned the argument between the Argentine team and the Brazilian health authorities. Brazilian police had actually been called to the hotel BEFORE the match started. Messi is just giving us another edition of his crocodile tears i am sorry to say. |

raumdeuter: While the Argentines were trying to bend the rules, this looks bad on Brazil because if the players were bringing Corona into the country they have already succeeded. In the time at Brazil they could have gone clubbing, carried olosho, gone to market etc to infect people
They got through customs. Left airport to the hotel Stayed in hotel for 3 days Travel to the stadium Enter a packed stadium Warmed up and shook hands with Brazilian players Start match and played for 9mins
I think the Brazilian authorities dropped the ball seriously on many occasions Definitely the Brazilian authorities dropped the ball but like i said the health authorities had tried stopping the players from being involved right from when they entered Brazil but Lo Celso, Romero and Buendia that everybody had watched just a few days earlier playing in the EPL kept claiming they had not been in the UK for over 2 weeks. If someone is lying ojukoroju what else can you do? The Brazilian officials had been arguing with the Argentines for 2-3 days before the match but Lo Celso and his boys kept lying in the face of video evidence that they had not been in the UK for over 2 weeks. They argued on arrival and were let into the country to go to the hotel. Then on the day of the match they were reminded of the 14 day quarantine but they kept claiming that they had not been in the UK. The Argentine FA officials who knew the truth should have done the honorable thing and withdrawn the players from the squad but they kept defending the lies of their players. Brazil health officials either in collaboration with their FA or due to their own personal anti-COVID extremism decided that "cunny man die, cunny man bury am". |

patrickmuf: I saw the line up and immediately put my money on Argentina because Brazil were missing so many players especially the EPL contingent of Brazilians but their health ministry officials had other ideas...As I said, it looked orchestrated to get the game postponed.
Brazil can't lose twice to Argentina in quick succession on home soil, the embarrassment will be too much... You have to also blame the Argentine players who lied about their travel history though. The Brazilian health authorities had actually tried enforcing their quarantine rules for people coming from "red" countries like the UK but Lo Celso and Romero kept claiming they had not been in the UK recently. The rule in Brazil is that if you are coming from the UK you should quarantine for 14 days in a hotel room before moving around. Last i checked a football stadium is not a hotel room. Romero and Lo Celso had no right to be on that pitch as per the rules in place in Brazil and they had been warned about it BEFORE the match but they kept insisting they had not been in the UK in the 14 days prior to the match. There was actually a big row in the Argentine hotel base BEFORE the match but they fought the health officials and boarded the bus to the stadium. I am now hearing that Spurs plan to sanction Romero and Lo Celso for traveling without permission and contravening the rules agreed on by all Premier league clubs. Brazil played fair but the Argentines in typical fashion tried to finesse the system. |

CapitalCee: I was thinking Garner will get an EPL loan this season to see his game, I watched Declan Rice cement a DM place in west ham in 18/19 season, he was 19 .That our DM position needs filling and quick, our last 2 games was an eyesore, we may drop vital points. Ronaldo might not accept that kind of performance going forward.
Considering our attacking options, it has to be a single DM and if Bruno will have to drop deep to accommodate the attacking options, we actually need a very disciplined player in the DM position because Bruno will always have the urge to push forward. Cementing a DM position at West Ham and at Man Utd are 2 different things. West Ham can lose 2 straight games 4-0 and the heavens won't fall. DM and CB are the 2 outfield positions that require the highest levels of understanding, reading of the game, focus, consistency. If we switch to 4-3-3 with single DM then Bruno has to work extra hard to keep his place in the team. The others are more natural CMs than him and i would take Pogba over Bruno in CM. |

codedguy1: I feel you.
We have to live with McFred this season.
But by next season, we probably would have lost the EPL, Ronaldo would be a year older at 37, martial would still be ice cold and OGS would not have learnt anything.
We watch. On this subject i have passed the stage of frustration to the stage of equanimity. By not getting a quality DM they are about to potentially waste 1 year which may or may not be the last productive year of CR7's career. We are always delaying things. By the time they get a DM Ronaldo might be 37-38 and the opportunity gone. People that don't understand are turning this into a debate on whether Amaka is a good manager or not. It is actually the fact that Amaka is not good that makes getting a DM so important. What the elite managers can get away with (in terms of squad deficiency) he can't get away with. He needs all the help possible to win titles because he is a limited manager but the lack of a DM should not serve as an excuse for his fan boys if we don't win those titles. After all the hole in the DM position has been magnified mainly because our manager appears incapable of finding a tactical solution. |
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by afrodoc2: 5:51am On Sep 05, 2021 |
CapitalCee: Unpopular opinion but if i am Ole,I will prepare James Garner to take over the DM position and trust him with it . Mount, James, Saka, Smith-Rowe, James Justin of Leicester all these players came up from loan and bagged important team roles in their teams. And the lad is 20 thats not much of a young age if you ask me.
Afrodoc1 None of the ones you mentioned is a DM. That position requires lots of nous and experience and not just talent or potential. Garner had a poor 1st half of 2020-2021 season on loan and a good 2nd half. Let’s see what he does this season on loan. The only thing is I would have preferred him going on loan in the EPL. Looking at our senior options at DM if we intend to move to a single DM 4-3-3 then the interim fix sadly has to be McTom. He is not a DM but at least he has the legs that Matic does not have and the size and physicality that Fred does not have. We can then address the DM question in January or at the end of the season. |

Jodera: This here is the issue. Now most of us here didn't deny the fact that our defence is poor or cannot enter into any top 6, what we're saying is that our midfield and attack too can't enter into any top 6 too. Once your midfield and attack is subpar, there's nothing defence can do to hold you up cos eventually "pressure must burst pipe". There's no way in hell our attack can make top 4 with these midfield and attack. At least I know with Tierney, there's hope that he can force his way into a top 6 team, but you see that midfield and attack, I don't just know who'll even force their way into first team in any of the top 6 team
It's no coincidence we've been toothless in attack in past 3 matches, and even tho coach might have a big hand in it, it also points to the inferiority we have in that midfield and attack, who in turn makes defence looks so so damn bad. I mean, Mari wasn't this bad last season the way he is this part 2 matches.
If I tell you(as a man u fan) to choose any player that will walk into your first 11 in midfield or attack from our team, I'm sure you'll pick none, (maybe except partey who's badly an injury prone player). Same goes to Chelsea fans, Liverpool fan, man city fans, Tottenham fans and even Leicester fans too.
That's how bad our front 2 department are. As at the start of last season your midfield and attack were Europa level but your defense was just above relegation level. The board has made acquisitions in defense and it remains to be seen how well they will settle in. Your attacking players were good enough to play well and get better results if you didn't have a manager who decided he had to be defensive minded in order to protect your fragile defense. I know cos we have gone through the same issue at United. Outside Tierney nobody in the Top 4 is touching any of your relegation level defenders like Kolasinac, Chambers, Holding. I would pick Martinelli, Saka, ESW, Auba, Partey, Odegard for my team before any of those guys in that back (apart from the excellent Tierney of course). They are just not good enough. Whether the midfield or attack is helping them is immaterial IMO cos they are not good enough to be defenders at a club like Arsenal. The first question to ask is " in a vacuum is this player good enough to represent the club". Ask that question about Kolasinac, Chambers, Holding. Mari, Gabriel, White will have the chance to show their quality this season. The board decided that the worst players in the club were the defenders and spent accordingly. It would not have been reasonable to spend more money on a 6/10 attack and midfield in order to protect a 3/10 defense. Better to just improve the defense and make it 6/10 too. Now where i would agree with you is that with the recent defensive acquisitions it is high time the board started looking at the midfield and attack, in particular replacing people like the ageing Auba, Laca, and the departed Willian. And someone has to go to Ghana to confirm Partey's birth certificate. |
