when are we going to realize we have the laziest set of center forwards in this league though? I used to think it was down to Ole's style but seeing Cavani press defenders and Bruno constantly pressing ahead of our strikers when Cavani is not on the pitch is a complete disgrace.
It's more appalling Ole seem comfortable with this and it's already rubbing off on Greenwood too.

If a team presses in the disjointed manner that we press the attackers will soon get exhausted. Cavani has already gone back to sick bay but only Bruno's chi is saving him.

Rashford, Bruno, Martial will be pressing but Maguire, Lindelof, Matic will be setting low blocks so they don't get beaten for pace, Pogba will be bouncing around majestically like a yahoo boy, and our full backs will stay deep in our half. Such a press is ineffective and after a while the attackers will lose the zeal to initiate a press that does nothing but get them tired and expose them do muscle injuries.

It is a problem mainly of coaching and training not just the players. Rashford pressed like mad for a couple of years before realizing he was fetching water into a basket.
It is rubbing off on Greenwood because he has realized how useless our press is.

At some point, it became embarrassing as Angelino kept finding more than enough space he'd have bargained if it was down to that...I watched in total disbelief as Ole and his crew couldn't counter the threat of Angelino...I expected that AWB be instructed to stay wide with Mctominay asked to support him but no, it never happened...I really don't know if it's because Matic is a liability against teams that press high like Leipzig that made McTominay stay central through the entirety of the game. With Fred, he offers more protection to the right side of play...

Fred might just be our most important players against the big guns because I don't think with him in the lineup, Leipzig would have dominated us through the middle as they did forcing our fullbacks to go central.

This was not about being dominated actually. It started happening almost immediately the game started. AWB was just going narrow senselessly thinking he was a full back with 2 CBs rather than a wing back with 3 CBs. There is a reason it keeps happening on his flank. He does not understand the cerebral aspect of the game and apart from his impeccable sliding tackles he has little to offer even defensively.

It was after he ignited the confusion in our defense that terrible things started happening. How can the same ball beat you 3 or 4 times in 15 minutes? When your head is not for decoration?
If AWB steps out to stick to Angelino he silences him for the whole game because a stationary Angelino won't be a problem for AWB's 1v1 skills.

I had a complete meltdown but I am off it now...I no longer look forward to our matches because Amaka remains Amaka...

I stopped watching after the 2nd goal. I no even log in since the first half of the game. After such games one has to leave space for partying and knee jerk emotions here.

I watched only the first half but the 2 people i blame the most are Ole and AWB in that order.

Ole for setting up with a formation which was defensive but a tactic which was attacking thereby confusing the hell out of his players. He also should have just gone for what worked in the past against Leipzig instead of tinkering with the formation and trying to form one tactical mastermind.

AWB for being a tactical dunce. The same mistakes he made against Solly March in September that allowed Brighton hit our bar several times were repeated against Leipzig's Angelino. He doesn't or maybe just can't differentiate between a full back and a wing back. He was the angel of confusion that scattered the composure of the defense from the start and made it an uphill task for us.
Ole has to bear part of the blame in this as well as the manager because he obviously did not correct this problem between Sept and Dec and also did not correct it early enough during the game.

Puigmal ihas been shining in midfield ever since Gomes, Garner, and Levitt left. Like i once said he probably was as good as them but they used British parapo to play him out of position as RB for a long time.

Unfortunately his contract is up at the end of the season and it looks like he is not going to extend it. Probably going back to Spain on a free.

The bolded is the reason why Chelsea youth teams over the years are usually successful at age grade level, winning all the competitions because their players have the physicality over other young guys. But those players rarely transfer that success to senior team football because at that stage , you physicality can only get you to the door, but it won't take you through it over time because the playing field is leveled and their is no physicality advantage over others unlike youth level

Very true. Size is less of an advantage at the senior level as most have developed and are of adequate size. But United should stop going for too many of those mini me or slow poison players that are either so small or so slow that making it at the senior level will require extreme technique and extreme luck.

The recruitment over the last 2-3 years has been much better than in previous years. Now we are getting highly rated foreign talent as well as local British talent.

One thing we rarely consider though is physical ability. We tend to go for technical players alone while a club like Chelshit always considers size and speed as well.
