No idea which Man Utd will turn up. We are a Jekyll and Hyde team. I suspect that Everton will get the victory though.

Would Ragnick accept DoF role? I see him as someone who likes to be on the pitch. I still feel Nagelsmann could crumble under the pressure of Managing Manutd, we need a manager with go football philosophy asap. I can't even go watch my United with any for of confidence again, eleyi wrong nau....
That is what he has been doing for most of the last decade. It seems to me that he prefers the DoF role to being manager.

I have always liked the way his teams play football right from his Hoffenheim team with Ibisevic, Demba Ba, Chinedu Obasi.

His pupils have taken it to the next level and all play high press, high octane, attacking football.

I don talk about Sotton attractive style of play here before, their players aren't as good as ours but the manager get them to play well. How a manager set his team to play is very important
Klopp, Tuchel, Nagelsmann, Rose, Hasenhuttl are all in one way or the other disciples of Rangnick.

We should get Rangnick as Sporting Director and one of them as manager. My preference would be Nagelsmann.

Players like Maguire, Mata, Matic, Pogba can’t function effectively in that system though.

Well, I agree with you, but it's in Bruno's nature to try to pass the ball first time. This can be very effective when there are a lot of movements in front of him. A good manager should identify and play to the strength of his players. If there were movements in front of him, Bruno may not have misplaced so many passes.
It is good to be direct and incisive with passing but you can't just be spamming through passes all day whether the pass is on or not. Some of Bruno's passing errors is on the lack of movement ahead of him but some of it is also on him being impatient and trying to force a pass that is not on.

He can also improve the weight of some of his passes, especially the short distance through passes.

Is Matic really one of your best headers? I dont recall him scoring a lot of headers though
He is 6ft 4 and probably the slowest player on the pitch. He should never be the one back defending a counter. Being good in the air is not just about scoring lots of headers but also about winning balls in the air and keeping the ball alive in the opponents box.

Your last paragraph summarises everything.

However I have to point out that having your DM as a last man when your team is playing a corner kick is pretty normal. We do that with Kante, Makelele etc...
I said SLOW DM.

Those are dwarf DMs that are not helpful in set pieces but have decent pace to cover up for a counter. Our DM was our tallest and slowest player meaning he would have been useful in the set piece and is too slow and useless to block counters.

I see you guys in your thread blaming Ole upandan but let's critically look at this two goals. Is Ole responsible for this scatter scatter setup? I'm sure in the training sessions, there is a particular way a coach sets up his team to attack a corner kick or defend it. And I'm sure what I see in those images isn't Ole's setup. So who is to blame? The players or the coach? Even the second goal, look at how 3 defenders are marking themselves. Look at the space the 2 opponents have. Just look at the space... Is it Ole's fault that those 3 defenders mark themselves?

Generally, a coach's formation/tactics is very important in winning matches. And personnel too. But there are basics of football that you will expect players, professionals, not to wait for coach to tell them during a match.

Those 2 goals, for me, fall squarely on the shoulders of the players.
It is hard to determine how much Ole’s training and instructions contributed to the goals but the fact that our relatively quick full backs were near their corner flag and while our slow DM was the man back while we had a corner suggests the coach had something to do with it.

Spacing at set pieces usually goes according to what has been worked on in training.

The other goal was just a sequence of errors by the players starting with Bruno and Mata.

However we are not blaming Amaka for the goals specifically but for the performances in general.

I've never seen this kind of set up from a supposed top team in all my life of watching football.

Imagine 10 outfield players deep deep in the opponents half when they are not chasing a last minute equaliser. I mean, a quarter of the game have not even being played!

shocked
I asked the oracle of Delphi to explain that set up to me, it couldn’t.

Nobody should blame mata for that second goal.. I just watched the highlight reel..

Na Bruno set am up.. That's a clear setup.. Very clear one
Bad pass from Bruno no doubt but Mata has to take some share of the blame. Baba is too weak and slow and gets pushed off the ball too easily. See how he was running with all his muscle and was still moving slowly as if he was running on sand. We should have pensioned him off long time.

Talking about Bruno those careless passes have been there from his arrival but seem to be getting worse now. One of the reasons he is not on that KDB level IMO.

A of what you have highlighted I correctly captured it in my post after the match...A dysfunctional system...

Those misplaced passes is a function of a system that isn't working. Often time, I saw Matic with the ball or VDB in the middle but the passing options was not just there, Bruno forgot he is supposed to be the link between midfield and attack and went to join the attack...

The movement of our players is dead...I am holding the coach accountable because we can't possibly replace all the players but we can replace the coach.

Is playing with urgency rocket science?
Is pressing as a unit so difficult?
Is passing and making runs to receive a pass so difficult?
Does it require that we change our entire 11?

All of the above questions have been answered by Brighton...I deliberately didn't want to reference Bayern, Manchester City or Liverpool so that no one will say they have superior players. You watch Brighton and you begin to ask questions of what we do in training...
That is why i said Amaka was a poor tactician and trainer. He might actually be decent as a tactician but his training methods ad implementation of those tactics must be really poor.

We struggle in these 4 things that are squarely on the coach
1) Pace of Play
2) Pressing as a unit
3) Spacing of players
4) Movement (especially off the ball).

Without 1, 3, 4 you can't have effective triangular movement of the ball and will struggle to create chances against low blocks.

It would have been very easy for Matic if he had kept an eye on the last man
Matic should not have been there in the first place. If we take that corner 1000 times Matic should never be the last man. That is the job of Shaw and AWB or any other small and pacy player on the pitch at that time.

That 2nd goal just exposed the reactionary defending of our backline. None of them is a cerebral defender that can think 1 or 2 steps ahead, hence the Zebra crossing a.k.a Zombie defending.

Let them sack Ole first then we can start this conversation...The one thing we agree on is that Ole has to go, let is happen...
Personally i will sack him now and leave the other coaches to continue coaching WITH THE CAVEAT that it is made clear privately and publicly that they are interim (hopefully for a few weeks) until a new manager is appointed.

I am saying this cos i am sure Woodward has not been doing his work to properly identify the right manager beforehand. He will start running all over the place only after sacking Ole. The ideal thing to do is have the right man ready and then appoint him immediately Ole is sacked.

Martial FC stop all these talks abeg. You’re just saying this to create a soft landing for your guy who has been underperforming since the start of the season. I’m sure it’s the coach’s fault too that his footballing ability has turned to glo network.

Was it the coach who told the players to leave Ba alone for the first goal? Was it the coach who told Mata to lose possession in a dangerous area and the defense to be awful?

When I made that statement I didn’t even have your guy in mind but see you jumping in to defend him.

Miss me with these talks. Coach is completely stvpid for his rubbish gameplan and some players are just not it.

They're a lot of good coaches out there...It's when it comes to Manchester United that you start hearing some funny statements...

The club should decide which pattern they want to play going forward and higher a coach that can get us playing that way...Before you know now, e go come be like say no good coach dey again just like the Sancho scenario...
These are not funny statements. It seems you people don't want to learn from history. Our recent history tells us that the board has found it difficult to identify and appoint a coach that will bring lasting success.

We were all here when Moyes was sacked after 1 season only for his successor LVG to be sacked after 2 seasons. The man that followed was JM who was sacked after just over 2 seasons and his successor will soon be sacked.

If it was so automatic to appoint a good coach Woodward and the Glazers would have gotten it right in one of their 4 tries. Identifying and sacking a bad coach is extremely easy, identifying and appointing a great coach is another cup of tea.

This one na friendly banter...
All 3 are good players however according to whoscored, before joining Liverpool he had never started a game on the right in his career while he had 63 matches on the left and 61 matches through the middle.

We needed a RW so he was not an obvious choice. I have always liked Traore and believe he has real potential if he plays under a good attacking manager

Yes, I don't think he even tried to argue with the referee (re: the decision). He was really tired. I would blame OGS though, for not replacing him after the first half. At the same time, OGS was in a fix because his two midfielders (Pogba and Bruno) were not in the game, he was absolutely clueless. He did not know what to do.
He was caught red handed. Immediately it happened he knew he had messed up. Our midfielders were off form for that game but the mistakes that Amaka made were numerous.

The last straw was switching to 4-2-3-1 and putting a visibly tired Pogba on the left wing to be running at full backs and tracking back.

Thanks for this. Bruno is the new bride, so no one is allowed to say stuffs about him.
They were equally bad and i even stated this during the match but Pogba is not 100% fit. I don't know if it is the coronavirus effect or the training time he lost due to the coronavirus. He was panting towards the end of the match and if he wasn't tired i don't think he gives away that penalty.

He can come in during the 2nd half and continue to build up his fitness over time. Playing a guy with tired muscles will only lead to injury.
