I think it is too early for all this lamentation on behalf of VDB. He will get his chance. He is struggling for position with Bruno and Pogba so it is not that easy to come in and command minutes straightaway.

Agreed with the switch involving Bruno and VDB...

I had the next league game in mind where Martial will serve his last match ban and that's why I have Greenwood starting...For the UCL, since we're at Old Trafford, I expect Rashford, Martial and Greenwood to start...
Oh ok. Got you.

RB Leipzig are not ready for what will hit them, I expect at least a goal and an assist from Martial...Ole should just not be unfortunate to start James because I will swear for him.

A front 3 of Rashford - Martial and Greenwood should do with Rashford and Martial interchanging places supported by a midfield of Bruno, Pogba/VDB (I suspect Fred will start and McTominay)...

In defense, it will be interesting to see who gets the nod at LB as well as CB, who partners Maguire?
You suggested 4-4-2 but now mentioned front 3.
Which one do you want?

We have an abundance of decent midfielders. We have no real quality wingers, and 4 good forwards.

With those resources Ole should be using 4-4-2 and 3-5-2 more often than not.

Since Ole is a guest here, let me just talk to him directly... grin grin grin

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, please can you try a 4-4-2 in our next league game?

.............................. McTominay/Fred...........................

.................. VDB.................................... Pogba............

....................................... Bruno.....................................

................Greenwood................ Rashford...................

When attacking, Pogba and Rashford can overload that left side with support from Telles/Shaw whilst Bruno and Greenwood take up positions in the box with VDB on the edge...And vice versa when attacking through the right wing...

On the bench, the likes of Mata, Cavani, Matic, Fred/McTominay and Martial (Greenwood) will provide fresh legs if needed.
Martial is starting against Leipzig.
Your formation is not a bad one to try but you should switch Bruno and VDB. RB Leipzig use more different formations than any other club that i know of so it would be difficult to predict which one they come out with.

To me, it looked like Fred at the base, Pogba and Mctominay in the middle, Rashford LM and Fernandes RM, then Cavani up top. Of course, formations are usually flexible so the shape is bound to change most times. wink
You are right. It was a 4-1-4-1.

He's too good to be on the bench. It's most likely the feeling of thinking he'll easily overthrow DDG, only for DDG to start doing well at the sign of a real threat.

Henderson made it clear that he came back to be No1 lol
LOL. Hopefully he is pissed at himself cos you don't take a no1 keeper's job without very good reason.

James played really poorly, Mata didn't do that badly but I think even the formation was not good enough.
same set up like against PSG with Mason starting in Martial's place should have had us on the front foot from the off.
I always told you that James was a limited player. A player does not magically acquire quality that he does not have just because he was mistakenly bought by a big club.
His brain is League 1/Championship quality. It is only his pace that makes him serviceable in the EPL.

Henderson was visibly pissed.

This is why competition is very important in any top team. DDG started improving when it was clear that a replacement was imminent.
I don't know why he was pissed. The guy seems to have a ridiculously high opinion of himself. While De Gea is performing well he is no1.

I think he'd keep up. game was 10mins left, a lot of tired legs out there. Fred couldn't trust his own passes.
We needed Greenwood more than we needed Matic. Greenwood created a goal scoring chance for Cavani and kept Chilwell honest for the rest of the game. In addition he is a goal threat.

There were 3 pairs of fresh Chelshit legs to initiate their counters still.

European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by afrodoc2: 5:18pm On Oct 24, 2020
Ole sometimes makes strange selections.

James is only good for bus-parking and counter-attacking football. Mata is poor at that style and is only good when we are trying to unlock bus -parkers.

Ole then decides to start them together.

He was not really playing well though he took his goal really well.
Kambwala is looking like he will have a chance. His partner Hardley looks quite good also.
Then we have Fish and Mengi with under-23 and Tuanzebe with the senior team.

If we buy 1 world class CB and offload Drs Bailly, Rojo, and Jones we should be sorted for several years at CB.

This is why Socrates criticized democracy, he said voting is a skill that shòuld be taught to the populace, the way an educated man will make his decision when voting will be quite different from an illiterate. Some will argue it creates a divide but the world is not equal and will never be.

It is the duty of the genius to educate the fool but do they do it?
Exactly. He said voting should be a learned skill and should not be based on intuition.

It is the government that should educate the people, however having an uneducated citizenry is to their advantage.

The bolded is Nigeria's election in a nutshell, because the former is in majority.

Well, let's see how 2023 goes.

P.s Quite laughable that everyone is focused on 2023, when the world is still in 2020. Shows the level of incompetency at the top.
It is a fundamental flaw with democracy. In Book 6 of Plato’s Republic he details Socrates criticism of democracy.
Socrates felt allowing people to vote without a proper education was as irresponsible as for instance allowing people on a ship to vote to decide who would captain the ship.

They are completely responsible.

A person should be ready to take responsibility for bad decisions made, which includes putting the wrong person in power. Nobody is perfect, but when poor judgement is made, a person should accept that he/she made a huge mistake.

It's one thing to make a decision that affects only the decision-maker, then another thing to make a decision that affects the whole populace.

If the electorate is not held responsible for the transgressions of the elected, then a free-will is given to make more poor decisions in the future. It becomes a never-ending cycle, because the electorate subconsciously knows that they will not be held responsible for their choices made, so critical thinking and analysis of the candidate can easily take a back seat.
They are not responsible.

You don’t jail people on the streets because they elected a corrupt leader. You hold the corrupt leader responsible for his actions and jail him.

Everybody is responsible for his or her own actions. The common man on the street might vote you in office but they didn’t force you to start embezzling money or jailing people without due process.

The electorate is the victim here. They are not responsible for the misbehavior of the politicians.

You can’t blame the victims when the politicians promise so much during campaign season only to renege on all their promises once in power.

I know many people who voted Buhari because they truly believed he was the best choice, and they did this after critical thinking as you put it.

Until people start having the gift of prophecy and seeing into the future critical thinking will not stop a politician from going rogue.

The problem is that there is a basic flaw with democracy which is that the general population is asked to make decision which is for the best of the country.
Unfortunately the general population is made up of people with varying intellectual capacity, meaning many people will make decisions based on their level of understanding. A fool’s vote counts the same as a genius’s vote in an election.

The fool will likely make a foolish decision, but you can’t blame him for being a fool.

Sancho was actually not greedy rather he was not strategic, almost all big transfers have an element of the player himself pushing for it. The issue was that he just the do shakara for us simple, the hype by most of our fans got to his head. The greedy party here was dortmund CEO, he was even giving ED deadline, a mafia crook like Woodward he is giving deadline. The issue now is that watching dortmund closely they are already preparing Gio Reyna to replace Sancho, very soon Makouko will be promoted to senior team to take over when they sell Reyna, they are a selling club, so paying Sancho 200k/week is a time bomb for them, the reason they even upgraded his wages was to get big transfer fee but they overplayed their hand. Buying teams will capitalise on that
Exactly. Sancho thought there was no way the 2 clubs won’t agree on a deal. He didn’t want to perpetuate the narrative that he is a player who likes to force his way out of clubs (Dortmund is his 3rd club at 20).

I support Ed fully on this one, as long as he does not fall mugu next season and buy Grealish or Declan Rice for 80m.

What I am hoping is that the Sancho money is spent in January or next summer to further improve the squad in a strategic manner.

CapitalCee, fire on...

When I opined that Dortmund will struggle to sell Sancho going forward, I wasn't on drugs...Sancho himself is greedy, push for a deal baba say no, he prolly thought United will pay up but Ed wasn't having none of it so I don’t buy the whole narrative that Sancho is unhappy...All he had to do was submit a transfer request but he was forming good boy...

When you talk about his performance for England, they'll tell you that Southgate is clueless but some of us have seen enough in football to know that a player shouldn't be rated after a very good season but at least after 2-3 seasons playing good football...We have seen Andrew Johnson, Darren Bent and a host of other one season wonders. Sancho have friends in Manchester United's team, the problem of integration wasn't going to hold sway for him, all he needed to do was push for a deal and he didn't...I bet he'll see our game against PSG and wished he made the move...At 200k per week wages, if nobody goes in hard for him next summer, Watzke will beg to terminate his contract because quite sincerely, Dortmund cannot afford such wages not when matches are played behind closed doors...
How was he greedy? The transfer money been requested was not by him but by the club.
His wages and his agent’s fees has been agreed for a long time according to all Tier 1 journalists.

Him not submitting a transfer request can be attributed to him trying to be a good boy and not wanting to rock the boat NOT to greed.

The guy is definitely unhappy he did not move. His plan all the while was make a name for himself in Germany and move back to the EPL.

And he didn’t have just a single good season like you implied but 2 seasons playing very good football.

Clubs have started learning to play smart with greedy CEOs like watzke and levy.
City doesn't splash anything more than 60m and even st that, the player must be 25 or below.
Barca are the worst hit and are counting their loss, the preeminence of Messi over the years covered the horrible transfers and contract negotiations since.
After the recent hazard debacle, I doubt Madrid will be foolish to make such mistake again, I heard some deluded Liverpool fans saying they will sell sallah and mane to Madrid &/or Barca, to fund the purchase of younger world class players. Lol they are not that stupid.

Maguire is the last player man United will be magad, ED has sent a clear message loud and clear that he is not ready to twerk for anyone to sell players to him.

Look at the young players that Madrid have bought over the years, that's their new model now. Vanicius, Valverde, Kubo, odegaard, Rodrygo.

Very soon players snd agents will start adding compulsory reasonable release clauses or sign short term contracts at clubs like dortmund.
A squad of several above average players is better than several mediocre players with 1-2 stars (as long as the stars are not prime Messi or Ronaldo).
It is the smart way to build your team and City, Liverpool, Bayern have done well with that model.
