The Ondo chapter of the Western Nigeria Security Network, Amotekun, has seized 100 cows and arrested their herders, for flouting the open grazing law in the state.

Adetunji Adeleye, the state Amotekun commander, confirmed the arrest to TheCable on Monday.

According to Adeleye, the security agency received a distress call that the cows had blocked the Ilesa-Akure expressway.

He explained that operatives of the agency were dispatched to clear the area, during which the cattle and their herders were apprehended.

“The state government came up with a law baning open grazing, night grazing and banning grazing on the expressways. We got a distress call that cows blocked Ilesa-Akure expressway and also entered farmlands and destroyed them, so we moved in and were able to apprehend them,” he said.

When asked about the herders who were in charge of the cows, the commander said they have also been apprehended.

He added that the cows would be released once the herders sign an undertaking not to flout the open grazing law again.

“They’ve been arrested and are now talking to the owners of the farmland. Once they write an undertaking not to destroy farmlands again and they have a way of repairing what they destroyed, we’ll release the cows to them,” Adeleye added.

TheCable had reported how governors of the south-west states banned open grazing of cattle in the region.

The development came amid tension in some parts of the south-west region over destruction of farmlands and rising insecurity.

The owner of that username and many of such usernames are being used to create hatred between Igbo and Yoruba. We Igbos and Yoruba need to be wise now. We must come together and fight our common enemy who are terrorist by nature the Hausa and Fulani.

Yoruba Muslims are far different from Fulani and Hausa terrorist Muslims. A Yoruba Muslim cannot cannot be terrorist like the Hausa/Fulani people.

Yoruba and Igbos are good people. We must do everything to quench the hatred between us that was initiated by this Fulani divide and rule tactics. We must not be fooled again. Let's unite now and stop insulting each other online or physically, because that's what this northern terrorist leaders loves to see.

If not that I caught a Fulani terrorist using the username igbosarecriminal to insult the Yoruba people, I would have thought that he was a Yoruba man. I have been hearing about Hausa Fulani divide and rule tactics but my eyes is clear now, I now believe that Igbos and Yoruba loves each other.

Igbos love the Yoruba and Yoruba love the igbos. the hatred and insults between us is caused by the Hausa and Fulani people and we must end it. Let's unite and stand against them. A truck driver was on Wednesday arrested for allegedly killing four female pedestrians at Upper Iweka flyover in Onitsha, Anambra state.

The suspect was reportedly escaping from revenue collectors in the area when he suddenly lost control and crushed the deceased.

The Nation gathered that the bodies of the deceased have been deposited at the hospital morgue after doctor’s confirmation.

The Sector Commander Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Andrew Kumapayi confirmed the incident.

He said the driver of the vehicle has been handed over to the police for further investigation.

He said, “At 0730hrs this morning 24th February 2021 at Upper Iweka flyover, four female pedestrians were crushed to death by a blue M/Benz truck with registration number XF 259 UNZ driven by an un identified driver.

“Eyewitnesses report reaching us indicates that the truck driver had a disagreement with the revenue collectors at Upper Iweka flyover and the truck rolled back and crushed the four female hawkers along the road.

“Also involved was the driver and his motor boy who came out without injury.

“FRSC rescue team, Nigeria Army and Nigeria Police rescue the victims to Toronto hospital and deposited at the hospital morgue after Doctors confirmation.

While condoling families of the deceased, Kumapayi urged pedestrians to be mindful of the dangers associated with the road and also avoid hawking close to the highways.

National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Asiwaju Bola Tinubu led other progressive politicians on Wednesday to the second term inauguration of Ondo Governor Rotimi Akeredolu.

Five Governors also attended the inauguration.

They include: Godwin Obaseki (Edo); Kayode Fayemi (Ekiti); Gboyega Oyetola (Osun); Dapo Abiodun(Ogun) and Babajide Sanwo-Olu (Lagos).

Also at the inauguration were former Interim National Chairman Chief Bisi Akande; former Ogun Governor Sen. Ibikunle Amosun; former Senate President Ken Nnamani; new APC chieftain in Osun Sen. Iyiola Omisore and former National Vice Chairman (Southwest), APC Chief Pius Akinyelure.

Guests applauded the presence of Obaseki at the International Culture and Event Centre, Akure, venue of the inauguration.

Obaseki defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) during the 2020 election. Akeredolu is of the APC.

Obaseki’s defection followed his disqualification to contest for the governorship by the APC screening committee for the election.

Obaseki eventually won the election on the platform of the PDP.

The Olu of Ilaro and Paramount ruler of Yewaland, Oba Kehinde Olugbenle as well as the Alake and Paramount ruler of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Gbadebo on Monday declared their support towards the vision of the South West Agenda 2023 for promoting the candidature of Senator Ahmed Bola Tinubu as the rightful candidate to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari.

The monarchs, who spoke in their palaces when members of the group paid them courtesy visits described Tinubu as the best choice from the southwest zone of the country to take over from President Buhari in 2023.

Oba Olugbenle said his support for the former governor of Lagos State is apolitical, adding that Tinubu is the most qualified candidate any political party in the South West could boast of.

He argued that the south west could not produce any other candidate that is as fit as Tinubu for the Presidential race in 2023.

Olugbenle while declaring his support for SWAGA, stressed that the contribution of the APC leader to the growth and development of Nigeria as a nation was second to none, saying that he possesses the needed sagacity, tenacity and experience to rule the country.

His words, ” His legacies as former governor of Lagos State can attest to the fact that he is the most qualified for the job”.

“When he was the governor of Lagos State, the foundation he laid was what all his successors are building on, which has made the State a force to be reckoned with in the country”.

“It is not about party. It is about the product that we are bringing in. He is the best man any party can present in the south. Not about APC or any other party but about the national development.

On his part, the Alake of Egbaland, Oba Gbadebo expressed confidence that the group will succeed in its assignment, pointing out that he had envisioned the APC leader serves as the nation’s president a very long time ago.

SWAGA National leader, Senator Dayo Adeyeye described the mode of operations of the group as a strict voluntary and self-financing body, with the objective of convincing Tinubu to contesting for president in 2023.

An unidentified Fulani herder has reportedly attacked a 58 years old man Mr Goodhead Nation, and his 18-years old son over the alleged missing cow in Osuan Bush, in Otuoke, country home of former President Goodluck Jonathan, Ogbia Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.

Although, the father escaped with minor bruises, however, the son, identified as Kohgi Samuel was not so lucky as he was inflicted with several life-threatening gruesome machete cuts by the attacker.

It was learned that the son was rushed to the Emergency Ward of the Federal Medical Centre, Yenagoa, where he underwent four hours of surgery.

Narrating how the incident happened, the father of the victim, said the attack occurred at about 5 pm on Friday while they were working on their palm farm attacked after accusing them of cow theft.

He said: ‘We were working on the farm when this Fulani herder came through the back entrance of my farm. He came to me and accused us of stealing his cow.

“We denied the theft and told him to look at us whether we looked like some who can kill a cow. He attacked me with his stick. He later brought out his machete and chased my son. We later discovered my son by the riverside with heavy machete cuts to the head, waist, and hand.”

Lately, most of the herders hardly stay on the fringe of the vast Bayelsa Palm estate allotted to them by the immediate past administration of Seriake Dickson to graze their herds with a view to averting their straying into farmlands and the attendant herders/farmers clash in the state.

Sometimes, the cattle are sighted roaming within Yenagoa, the state capital, and obstructing traffic with their herders showing little or no concern for other road users.

Confirming the development, the Bayelsa State Commissioner of Police, Mike Okoli, appealed to residents of the State to remain calm as the command is working assiduously to identify the suspected herder and apprehend him.


According to a statement issued by the spokesperson of the Police Command, Asinim Butswat, said: ” On 20 February 2021 at about 0800hours an unknown herder at Osuan bush, Otuoke Community, Ogbia LGA, assaulted one Kohgi Samuel Nation ‘m’ 18 years and inflicted grievous wounds on his fingers and head, over an allegation of a missing cow.”

“The victim was immediately rescued by Police Operatives and is responding to treatment at the Federal Medical Centre, Yenagoa. The Commissioner of Police Bayelsa State Command, Mike Okoli, appeals to members of the public to remain calm as the command is working assiduously to identify the suspected herder and apprehend him.”

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has directed the state’s Ministry of Health to take over the medical bills of some persons who sustained injuries during a shooting incident at Alafara community in Ologuneru/Apata axis of Ibadan on Saturday.

Reports had indicated that some suspected gunmen in the early hours of Saturday invaded the area and killed a number of cows, while leaving some others injured.

The state’s Police Command through the Eleyele Divisional Police Officer had immediately mobilised to the scene and announced that its operatives were on the trail of the perpetrators, as investigations continued.

A statement by the Oyo State Police Command on Saturday had equally indicated that the incident at Alafara Community had nothing to do with Yoruba/Hausa-Fulani clash, adding that relative peace has been restored to the area.

A government delegation led by the Executive Assistant to the Governor on Security, CP Sunday Odukoya (rtd), visited the area, where it discovered that the suspected gunmen invaded the area in the early hours of Saturday and fired shots at the animals.

Odukoya said on Sunday that when the incident was reported to Governor Makinde, he immediately directed the Ministry of Health to take over the treatment of the victims, while the government will compensate the owners for the killed cows.

“His Excellency, Governor Seyi Makinde, on receiving the report of the incident, immediately deployed a team that worked with me to look at the situation.

“We have since briefed His Excellency and he has also directed that the medical bills of the injured persons be fully picked by the government,” Odukoya said.

The statement also indicated that the state government has offered to compensate the owners of the cattle, while the traditional ruler and chiefs in the area are collaborating with security agencies to unravel the situation.

An apprentice, identified simply as Ifeanyi, is in pain after his boss, identified simply as Anaayo, allegedly bathed him in acid and detained him for over three months without treatment at their place of residence in the Lekki area of Lagos State.

PUNCH Metro gathered that Anaayo, who owns Ayocity Surgicals, was taking stock of his goods at his shop in the Idumota area of the state sometime in November 2020 when he discovered that some items were missing.

Angered by the discovery, Anaayo allegedly summoned his apprentices, including Ifeanyi, and demanded an explanation for the missing goods.

It was learnt that when Ifeanyi and his co-apprentices, including the managers, could not give a satisfactory explanation for the missing goods, Anaayo was said to have told them that they would continue the discussion when they got home.

Speaking with PUNCH Metro, a businessman, Chijioke Emmanuel, whose shop is near Anaayo’s, said all the apprentices except Ifeanyi took to their heels after being interrogated by their boss, adding that Anaayo allegedly poured acid on the victim.

He said, “Ifeanyi is an apprentice under Anaayo, whose company’s name is Ayocity Surgicals. What happened was that Anaayo complained that some of his goods were missing before last Christmas. Anaayo has managers for his company and Ifeanyi, who is just 17-year-old, was one of them.

“He started serving Anaayo not up to five months and was also living with him like his co-apprentices. They all gave their explanations when Anaayo summoned them about the missing goods, but Ifeanyi appealed to him to discuss with his managers. They were to continue the interrogation at home when the managers ran away from Anaayo’s house, because what was missing concerned them.

“Ifeanyi didn’t run, so his boss got hold of him and started beating him to get more information about what happened and the whereabouts of the fleeing workers. Anaayo locked Ifeanyi inside the toilet and went to the market.

“On his return, Anaayo asked if he was willing to say the truth, but when Ifeanyi could not say anything, he brought out the acid that he usually uses to kill ants and snakes crawling into his house from a nearby bush, and poured it on him. Ifeanyi’s head, back and other parts of his body were damaged by the acid.”

Despite the pain Ifeanyi was going through, Emmanuel alleged that Anaayo locked him up for three months without treatment, adding that the incident became public knowledge when the victim escaped from the house.

Emmanuel stated, “Anaayo locked Ifeanyi inside the toilet, where he spent days before his boss brought him out and locked him up in a room. But the acid had already damaged his body; doctors are saying that the acid also affected his brain and he needs urgent surgery.

“The incident happened in November 2020, but when we no longer saw Ifeanyi at Anaayo’s shop, we started asking after him, but the boss told us that he was doing something for him at home. We never knew that he locked him up, because of what he had done to him. He never gave him any treatment after pouring acid on him.

“It was when Ifeanyi managed to escape from home that he got help from people, who took him to the human rights office in Ikeja and the police were contacted and Anaayo was arrested on Thursday, February 11, 2021, and he has been in detention at the Area ‘F’ Command in Lagos since then.”

When contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, said, “As of now, we have not got any information regarding that particular incident; I will find out.”
