I go with efeski suggestions plus discussion of Nigerian books. If raypower did not do such, where would Nigerian music be today?

They say i can choose whom so ever i please so long she understands nd speaks my language nd i dnt have to spend a dime on the wedding. All i have to do is just choose the lady nd show up on the d day... i get a little bit nervous whenever i think of this, trying to take my time tho.
So if she does not speak ur language, you would not choose her?
Family › Re: Are Female Children Generous Than Males? by afroxyz: 9:31pm On Jan 05, 2013
I am the only male in my family and I take care of my parents better than my sisters (maybe because I have a better job). Besides, what do you expect? The male would use his resources to take care of his wife and children. Plus he has goals and plans to fulfill as a man whilst the female has no such pressure. Even if she is working, there would always be a man somewhere tending to her needs as such she would have extra cash to take care of her parents whilst another male takes care of her.
Hi people thanks for the response.
Almost everyone agreed to jan 3rd (i do hope u kno it's a thursday sha)
so what time do you propose.
I'm open to any book, foreign or nigeria.but sincerely i prefer foreign books though.
One of the reasons behind this idea is to broaden our horizens anyway, besides it'd realy impove our reading skills, because u dont want to be left out in the excitement, you know you want to have something to say everytime we come here to discuss.
Therefore let's come up with a convenient time and get this thing started already people *winks*
Thereby promoting foreign books?

Hmm. Very educative. I just discovered that igbo mythology and yoruba share many similarities. Like sango (Amadioha in igbo) is also reprsented with a white ram and is a god of thunder. Also the tortoise is a trickster in igbo folklore. Keep it up
Literature › Paths Of A Story by afroxyz(op): 11:09pm On Jan 03, 2013
With a hat on his head,
Blue and red,
Eshu strolled down the path
On the village thread

Each on one side of the road,
Thought his own to be true
In their wise folly,
They sought to make it known.

They argued, fought, maimed
Minds they subjugated
In broken cages, mental boxes
Of ideologies, perspectives.

Forcing their view on others
Each echoed his true way
Forgetting the view of others
on the other side of the road.

Until one climed up a tree
And glanced at eshu's trickery
Only then could they see
There are numerous paths to a story.

What is the root of your reality?
Are they chains bound to folly?
For like the press we are quick to judge
Without defence or a jury.

shymexx: Interesting and praiseworthy...

I just bought "The Handbook of Yoruba Religious Concepts: Baba Ifa Karade" last week, and Ifa is definitely one of the most advanced form of spirituality ever... Christianity and Islam aren't even close!!

Ifa is science and the concept is like the computing binary concept, however, in a more spiritual way...

God bless the Yoruba ancestors!!
Please where do I get this book?

saxywale: Ifá is based on two binary orders as in the binomial
theory of mathematics: the binary order of opposition
and the binary order of complimentarity very much
the same kind of binary order from which the
computer is originated.

There are two hundred and fifty-six Odu or books of
Ifá. Each Odu or book is supposed to contain eight
hundred stories yielding a total of 256 multiplied by
800 which equals 204 800 stories.
Please where do I get such books. I am intrested in African mythology. I am a poet and would like to represent them in my works.

Each of these
stories(histories) contains the experiences of the people of
West Africa(Yoruba) throughout the whole range of their
history and mythology. In other words even though
most of the ancient people were not literate
they developed the ability to preserve the salient
aspects of their culture and history.

What is even
more they developed a rigorous system for the study
codification transmission and dissemination of this
vast body of literature and knowledge.

There is nothing serious here. If you want to save your marriage, you have to ask your mum to leave your house. She has enjoyed her marriage and as such she should let you enjoy yours. A man is supposed to leave his family and cleave to his wife. Besides you would spend the rest of your life with your wife not your mum. Unless you don't want to be the man of the house, then you allow your mum control you. If you want peace to reign, you have to look for an altertnative accomodation for her. Simple

Dem say dis gospel na for mankind. Afterall, dem say 'he became poor, so that I might be rich.' Why e come be say if you no get money, dem no go respect you. Even for house of God, kwa! Dem born you well make you siddon for front of church if you no park your car for outside? Even the kain car go dtermine wey the ushers go put you. If you dey drive jalope, na for back you go pack your car.
Na so one sunday, I dey church. Two people dey my front. One big man and one poor man. The big man wear traditional, those kain wear the lines for the dress fit cut person finger. The other man, the poor man carry hair like shaggy. The white shirt wey e dey wear don turn to 'it was white'. Those kain white wey if. E touch water, all the fish go kpai. Him black trousers don turn brown, whether na becos the man no get money to buy omo or him don wash am so tey e the colour don fade, na him sabi. Time come reach for praise and worship, and as usual everybody come dey show him skills. Azonto, etighi, galala, suoo, name am. Everybody just dey gyrate like Terry G, except cripple sha. Dem say na when people dey dance, na him cripple dey wish say e get leg.
I notice say if dem dey sing, the big man go dey hold him nose, throw way face go another side. At first, I think say na paparazzi the big man dey form. Besides him body be like michelin so him no go fit move. but wetin dey man dey experience pass am, as him dey event sweat upon the oye-pumping wey full church. As the worship come dey go on, and the anointing come dey come down, pastor jump on top stage to come minister to him flock. Na so him say, "hold yourselves into and decree on one another". My people, na there yawa go gas o. As people dey speak in tongues, raining fire and brimstone, dey punch air as if na Tyson and holyfield dey fight, spraying saliva, em except me sha. Me no sabi speak in tongue. How I go dey talk wetin I no know? And if I no know am, how God go understand me na? Anyway dat one na talk for anoda day. As we, (sorry dem) dey pray, this big man and shaggy hold dem hands. We never even go half of the first prayer point, na him the big man just shout "jesos!!". Ah! No be holy ghost o. Na so him signal usher to come. As tatafo na, I just tune my antenna to grab the latest news.
"Please sir, could you please go behind, we have seats available there" the usher talk.
"Why na? For wetin?" Shaggy dey ask, dey provoke.
"As you can see, the front seats are reserved for special guests and respectable people. Besides our live coverage of the sermon should show this people. You are not dresses for such publicity sir." Hmm. Na so my ear stand. At forst, I think say na fashion modelling the usher dey talk about. Shaggy no dey find dis story funny.
"Wetin you mean by special guests and dressed for the occassion?" Him voice come dey increase. The usher self come dey twist him nose because of the paraga smell wey comot shaggy mouth. Me I call am nasal tsunami. I dey sure say if fly pass, the fly for die sef.
"No be house of God be dis. So una don dey do politics for church abi? Becos I no get money?"

"Yes gentlemen, what's going on?" But the way him look shaggy from head to toe, I know say him own don be. As dem explain finish, the head usher come say
"Sir, that is our church policy. You can't be dressed as a beggar and seat in front. It is not good for our image. I would advise you to go to the back to avoid further embrassment. Yeepa! For church? I know say shayo dey smell for the man body. I know say, him no dress well. But no be dis kain people the gospel dey meant for. Abi the gospel na for rich people? All dis while, the big man just bone as if him no know wetin happen. Na so shaggy look up, as if to ask God why. Him carry him bible waka comot church. I follow am look up. Literature › Paradox Of A Poet by afroxyz(op): 10:06am On Dec 06, 2012
You don't need a voice
to be heard.
Or an ear to hear
the still small voice.

Your vision is not
an offspring of your eyes
Or your path,
the reward of having legs.

The taste of defeat,
does not perch on the tongue
Or the smell of money
yield to the nose.

You may be so poor,
That all you have is money.
Yet you are free,
But caged by society.

The gate to salvation,
Is not opened by religion.
Just as facial beauty
Should not be taken at face value.

The devil would never meet you,
Dressed in black overalls.
He is afterall,
An angel of light.

Truth is sometimes protected,
With a bodyguard of lies.
The dance of the water spirits,
Is not an invitation to party.

The ocean cannot quench
The thirst of the soul,
Even the appetite of a glutton,
Cannot match the lust for a woman.

The unclothedness of beauty,
Is veiled with clothes.
So is the unclothedness,
Of evil.

The deepest wounds,
Shed no blood.
And orange juice,
Is not Agbala's libation
Literature › Campus Gates by afroxyz(op): 7:58pm On Dec 05, 2012
Last saturday,
I passed through campus,
Amused,
By my foolishness.

Reminiscing,
On relationships,
That stood,
on broomsticks

Lofty dreams,
Strung with cobwebs,
Where reality,
is scene of my fiction.

Clothes mattered,
Phones, status symbols
Trying to impress
With money not earned.

The alcohol, and smoke
Behind closed doors,
Where only the walls
Understand our language.

The girls who took,
Looks over books
The guys who took,
Boobs over cooks.

But our calabash of dreams
fetch not of reality's streams
Flowing from life's hills
Outside our campus gates

Out of your loins,
Hence i came,
Bringing a part of you,
With me.
I stand, like a canvas,
before,your authority,
Paint me,
With your prejudices

I came through you,
But not from you.
I came with eyes,
But you gave me vision.
I came with a heart,
But you gave me courage.
You gave me shoes,
But I must chose my path.

My mother's kind words,
Are like broken clay pots,
Fetching from life's rivers.
Your harsh words,
Are the breast plate
For life's battles.
The shield
For nature's tempest

Like the rush of wind,
That pushes the rain clouds.
Like the ocean,
That belges sand ashore,
Like the earth,
That pushes forth its fruits
I carry a part of you into the future,
touching the naked body of your dreams.

You are the shadow,
Of my thoughts.
I am the reflection
of your dreams
You are not my father,
But my guide in this world,
Through life's treacherous mazes,
To discover myself.

This your piece is nice, I like it,(note i say piece and not poem, cos it reads more like Spoken Word than Poetry). U should consider performing this piece on stage, maybe at one of our open mic Poetry event and if we like your delivery, you just might feature in WORD UP Volume 3 aka Da Love thang come February 2013.
I am one of the promoter of WORD UP, the biggest Spoken Word Poetry and Soul Music event in Nigeria. The first edition of WORD UP was held on August 18, 2012 and the 2nd edition, WORD UP Volume 2 was held November 17, 2012.
Check out some of the pixs and videos on http://wordup411..com/, the dvd will be out soon.
Do let me know if you are interested, especially as we have our monthly Performance Poetry and Spoken Word open mic event called "Chill and Relax, coming up December 9, 2012 in Soluyi, Gbagada from 3pm. Its our last poetry show for the year.

Cheers, and keep writing, keep vibing, keep flowing and keep the words alive.
I would be happy to perform it. I remember you also made a similar gesture after reading another of my poems I posted here. However, I would not be available for the Dec 9 event. Maybe in a subsequent edition (january or so). I would be glad to be part of it. Thanks
