Her decision not to appear would have been one of many cases of the executive. But I am in the shoe of the chairman of the house. The minister first statement shows that she might not be able to answer all the 50 questions begging for answers on that day. Are we now saying that meeting with minister is an opportunity for the people? From my own view, I sw the minister not ready to answer all of the questions.
I think the interpretation was that she did the Nigerian people a favor by showing up sick and unprepared...

Bottom line, she wasn't ready or prepared to do her job and the reps did the right think excusing her, throwing tantrums after was just unbecoming, rude, disrespectful and unprofessional...

Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, national leader of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), has called for Nigerian-American cooperation in counter-terrorism, corruption and strengthening of democratic institutions.

Speaking when Ms Tamara Klajn, a staff member of the US Senate Foreign Relations Committee visited him in Lagos, Asiwaju Tinubu said America should help Nigeria strengthen its capacity in these vital areas in order to build democracy and spread development and prosperity.

Exchanging views with Joe Stafford, outgoing US consul-general in Lagos, who paid him a farewell visit Asiwaju Tinubu declared: “The twin problems of corruption and insecurity undermine any attempt of transformation as touted by the government. A lot of things are going wrong. Our ship is drifting and the people in power are not paying enough attention.”
You people should forget qualification. Many people can do better than the minister. Up till now, I am yet to comprehend her good side to Nigeria. It is time to invite all our economy expert to a round table show to channel the way forward. Many brilliant chaps that can redesign our economic policies without hardship on common man.
The woman is nothing but another mean spirited and incompetent Nigerian public official. This woman is still denying the people of Rivers portable water to drink.

This mean woman is yet to release the World Bank and African Development Bank (ADB) loans approved by the National Assembly for the provision of potable drinking water to the people of Rivers State.

The message here is

No more business as usual

No more incompetence and special treatment

Do your job and earn your respect

I'm sure the other worthless, incompetent and unproductive public officials are reading the writing on the wall. Opnuchukwu can protect you and condone your incompetency and crooked ways within his executive jurisdictions, but not in the house of the people.

The change is already here..
PoliticsRe: Okonjo-Iweala To Reps - When You Invite Ministers, Treat Them With Respect! by agbameta: 4:14pm On Dec 20, 2013
Sesan2: Maybe the committee members were concerned that any failure, on her part, to answer questions satisfactorily will later be blamed (by her) on ill-health. Although the man was talking about her possibly collapsing, they could have given her the benefits of the doubt and go on with the interview; since she said she was ready (and well enough) to answer the questions (especially if the session was being televised and the world would have seen and heard how she responded). If at any point during the session they felt she was not up to it (health-wise), they could advise her to go and take a rest and reply in writing to the rest of the questions or come back at a later date.

In any case, there was no need for the man to shout at her and treat her like a school girl, which I feel he did - he did not even allow her to speak. If the man felt he wanted to stick to his guns he could do it calmly and firmly. You can be courteous and firm at he same time.

I know many Nigerians can be passionate when they speak/argue about what they believe in but you have to draw the line between being passionate and being rude.

The man was rude in this case. The woman deserves an apology.
1. The reps were compassionate by considering her fake ill health

2. The reps did her a favor by asking her to take the questions home and return back in 2 weeks.

3. The reps controls the agenda and not the minister so she's in no position to tell them what to do or how to do their job

4. When the chairman ruled by adjourning the meeting, that was the end and she should have left, staying and rambling on and on was rude, disrespectful and unprofessional.

5. Adjourned means over and she can not tell us she doesn't know the meaning of over or adjourned. They made their decision and she should have respected that decision.

6. Bottom line, she tried to dictate the proceedings and do the chairman's job but the chairman didn't let her.

She runs her ministry and not the people's house. She should apologize to the reps for her rude and unprofessional behavior..

The reps did their job, it's now up to the corrupt, corruption loving and enabling incompetent aso rock dullard to do his job which I'm sure he can not do because it's the opposite of what he is.

It's hard to be a corruption enabler and facilitator and still fight fight corruption at the same time so I really agree with you, she is going no where...

obayaya: after watching this video, I have this to say..

The committee chairman obviously overreacted.. NOI telling them she isn't feeling fine is just to give them heads up that she wouldn't be taking all the questions personally as she came with aides and colleagues from the ministry of finance...

Though the Soft landing given to her by the Committee chairman is cool. the chairman should've let her make a general presentation on the state of the economy and maybe answer a few questions since the whole thing is live on national TV. and send her the questions later.

Hearing should be an interactive session. Which is usually more detailed and convincing than written answers.

Mr. chairman shouldn't have raised his voice the way he did. it's disrespectful and will warrant questions on his "ulterior motives"
See how we excuse away incompetence. We the people need her to attend to the people's business with sound mind and in good health so we the people showed compassion by asking her to excuse herself and answer the 50 questions in the comfort of her own home..no wahala. She is the minister in charge of her ministry and we don't have to relegate our answers and concerns to her subordinates.

Trying to have her way even after the chairman ruled on the matter and adjourned the meeting was rude, unprofessional and disrespectful to the house and the people of Nigeria. She doesn't call the shot or determine the people's proceedings, that's the job of the chairman.
PoliticsRe: Okonjo-Iweala To Reps - When You Invite Ministers, Treat Them With Respect! by agbameta: 2:57pm On Dec 20, 2013
azeezhy: what other form of civility do you want. She claimed she is indisposed, they didnt bother her, they told her to come back when she is better, and then she did a 360 only to claim she can handle it now. Does she think those people in the committee are indecisive like GEJ? She can control the president for all we care, the national assembly is not tied to her apron.
Thats what jibrin told her.
This meeting is adjourned means it's over and she should have excused herself right there instead of throwing tantrums and disrespecting herself by trying to stay and have her way. You don't order people around on their tuff and in their own chamber.

That was very disrespectful. Respect cut's both ways so don't expect any kind of respect if yo don't know how to respect other people especially after yielding to her based on her sickness which to me sounds like a big fat lie. You are sick, but ready to answer 50 detailed questions lasting for several hours? Why did she even refused to just accept the reps gesture concerning her health and just leave?

She tried to play the reps and she got played instead..
PoliticsRe: Okonjo-Iweala To Reps - When You Invite Ministers, Treat Them With Respect! by agbameta: 2:44pm On Dec 20, 2013
It all started with NOI telling the committee that she has been sick but will manage to answer the question to the bes of her abilty ( Remember that her ability as at then has something to do with sickness).
Then the Committee chairman and the member decided to allow her to go and respond to the said questions.
Remember the house committee is headed by the chairman who has already gave rule on the matter.
NOI don't have moral right to question the ruling of this committee.
This made the committee chairman to tell her that, She can make any decision at the ministry, but as far as house committee is concerns, He has rule on the issue.
We should respect everybody right under the constitution. I love the chairman of the house because, he knows his right and use it effectively.
Very well said...

Ceorhemz: please, i beg you in the name of God whom you serve, what that man did, that we all watched yesterday, is it right or wrong. Sentiments, tribalism and politics apart. Be very sincere
Was the woman sincere? She walked in intentionally to fool the reps by playing sick and they did the right thing by excusing her based on her poor health with questions to submit back to them. If she was truly sick, she should have said thank you very much for the gesture and I'll see you in 2 weeks, but instead all of a sudden she wasn't sick and ready to answer 50 detailed questions.

Bottom line, she tried to fool them, she tried to call the shots, determine the course of the proceedings and order the reps around with her silly sympathy card.

I'm glad they put her in her place. You run your ministry and not the reps. They were obviously ready for her BS.

She disrespected herself by insisting to stay. We all know the meaning of the meeting is adjourned, it means it's over. She should have excused herself and leave, but no, her arrogant self must be heard, she has to get her way and sink in the last word.

She obviously got what she bargained for...

Finally the dumb reps are doing their oversight job.

The Minister came telling them she was sick and they gave her the option to come back in two week's time. She turned around trying to make her case after she had been excused. What type of minister is that?

Ibos are always portraying themselves as victims. This is very sad to be dealing with people who cry like piglets each time they put them where they belong.

The Honorable members haven't done anything wrong. The minister was just trying to play the victim card as usual.
The silly and deceptive woman tried to play the reps, but she got outsmarted because they read through her BS.
