Politics › Re: Osun Sponsors 20 Youths To Germany For Agricultural Training by agbameta: 4:17am On Aug 28, 2013
babahjide: Excuse me. will all the machines used for the training brought to Nigeria for use? Is there anyway we can adopt an agricultural system far far more expensive more than we can afford? ds is pure waste of public fund. I am OAU agricultural student n I cannot see y our doctors and professors in agriculture cant professionally handle this, or maybe its a lie!!!!
The fist step in mechanized Agric is training and manpower development, you don't buy equipments you don't know how to use or without any formal training, it's the other way around.

How come OAU including the IITA and all the other so called qualified entities in Nigeria haven't handled this since 1960 and they are now all of a sudden capable because Osun state is taking the bull by the horn and taking care of it's economic security and future in 2013?

Where were the Nigerian Agric experts during Operation feed the Nation and all the other Agric initiatives we've spent billions on with no meaningful results to show?

Regardless of politics and my love for this man as a competent public official, Ogbeni Aregbeshola is a strategic and surgical spender and he spends on nothing with no direct benefit to his state or with no positive end.

We read the same negative BS when the man bought locomotives and rail cars to cater to his and the state's Agric business...while other people's trains are breaking down and unable to move from one part of the country to the other, his trains are doing the same thing with ease, he spent money on his train station with pedestrian bridge.

The point is, the man is not oblivious to the fact that he doesn't have oil in his state, Agric is all he has and his banking his state's future and economic security and survival on Agric so it's not brainner that he's putting in place like a jigsaw puzzle all all the critical infrastructures needed to propel the state's Agric policy like trains and Agruc hub stations, Agric roads, emphasis on Agric in school curriculum, Cargo airport, manpower training in high tech and mechanized Agriculture..

Like I said, the man has a game plan and it's working the game plan like a chess master..

The article below should tell you a thing or two about that man and his Agric commitments

Before I set out for the governorship of Osun, I had made it a primary objective to develop the agricultural potential of the state, to be able to capture just 10 per cent of the food market value in Lagos.
The question is; what have I done along that direction?

Immediately we assumed office here, we declared to the world, including the people of the state, that it will be totally wrong for any entity, be it human, geographical, or any entity at all, to claim existence, particularly independent existence, and still be dependent on others. When a territory depends absolutely on another supervening authority, it’s no longer independent. But why do most of the states in this sort of derogatory relationship, whereby without the hand out from another government (you can say federal or central) most the states cannot survive. Our goal is first of all to ensure that we reverse that ugly trend; we want to be like Lagos that, in the worst case scenario, can still survive on its own. We have looked around; there is no other thing on which we can have such independent existence outside agriculture. After all, close to 60 per cent of our people are into subsistence agriculture. So our primary objective is to help subsistence farmers increase their production through expansion of their farming capacity, improvement of the techniques of farming and assist them to move their goods from wherever they are to railway terminals and from there to Lagos free of charge

Towards this end, we went to Nigerian Railway Corporation to finalise all our agreements to ensure free freights of agricultural produce from Osun, particularly under the central station, to Lagos. And this provision is not limited to produce from Osun; any agricultural produce that gets to Osun, Osogbo particularly, from any part of Nigeria we transport free of charge to Lagos. If your goods are from Sokoto and it gets here, as long as they agricultural produce, we take them for you. Essentially, it’s to motivate our farmers to produce and use that provision of free freights of their produce.

we want to build a huge regional market in Dagbo, a settlement outside Osogbo, very close to the steel rolling mill. There is a small station there, which we have taken over from the Nigerian Railway Corporation. We are redeveloping it to become a huge hub for agricultural produce. There will be processing centres there and it will be a centre for packaging goods and moving them to Lagos. There will be no discrimination on sources of produce. If any farm produce gets to Osogbo, the state government will move such produce free of charge to Lagos. This is the programme and that is what we are pursuing with vigour.

I am still working hard to improve the Osogbo terminal for the passengers. And for that reason my Lagos hub is not fully ready and I am looking at having 57 Osunmites in each of the 57 local government development centres in Lagos, so that these goods, when they hit Lagos, whoever want to get them will get them at Osun prices. Because when you remove freights from the costs it means you will get your agricultural produce at the farm rate prices, and that is the goal.

Politics › Re: Nigeria Oil Output At 4 Year Low - Financial Times by agbameta: 12:51am On Aug 28, 2013
Is this some kind or secrete or revelation especially with Jonathan borrowing money from everybody and their mama?

Here is the deal...

Jonathan refused to trim the government and his abolonje ku food bill as advised by his own endless committees.

The federal government is spending $8 out of every $10 on itself in Abuja with the left over $2 for the rest of the country aka 170 million people which is nothing and also what they end up looting also so there is nothing left to do anything for the average Nigerian...

Now even with the $8 they keep in Abuja and with low oil receipts, the $8 is at this moment not enough to service the government so instead of trimming down, they set out to borrow money to fill in the gap, to steal and spend on 2015 election propaganda projects..

Bottom line, Nigeria is broker than broke and since our economy is yet to be diversified and the leadership is still not serious about the looming financial danger and meltdown, we have no choice but to keep stretching out our hands begging and borrowing for even basic needs..

Family › Orphanage: Lagos Ministry Relocates 25 Children To Unknown Destination by agbameta(op): 12:24am On Aug 28, 2013
https://edge.punchng.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/Rescued-children1-360x225.jpg

A team from the Lagos State Ministry of Woman Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, on Saturday evening, relocated 25 children from St. Stephen Orphanage, Egbeda, Lagos, to an undisclosed place.

Saturday PUNCH learnt that the children were taken away during an operation following the newspaper’s publication about the home last Saturday.

The team, led by its Director of Child Development, WAPA, Mrs. Alaba Fadairo, reportedly visited the home and took the 25 children away.

The team, which comprised representatives of the Office of the Public Defender and the Alausa Police Station, also arrested the coordinator of the home, Mrs. Roseann Nwachukwu.

Attempts by our correspondent to confirm the whereabouts of the children and visit them to ascertain their welfare failed.

In separate interviews, Fadairo and the Director, Office of the Public Defender, Mrs. Omotola Rotimi, said Saturday PUNCH would not have access to them.

Fadairo said on telephone, “They are in a government orphanage. They are doing fine. I still saw them yesterday.”

In a reply to a text message from our correspondent, Rotimi wrote, “Cases regarding children are treated confidentially. What I can tell you is that they are in safe custody of the state. OPD is representing them to ensure their rights are not violated.”

Our correspondent, however, learnt that Nwachukwu was eventually granted bail on Tuesday evening, after preliminary investigations were concluded.

It was learnt that representatives of WAPA had visited the home on Friday, a day before the raid, and withdrew the registration of the Non-Governmental Organisation done three years ago.

A medical doctor who did a study on children’s correctional centres, Dr. Favour Nwolisa, said WAPA’s failure to adequately monitor the activities of the organisation gave Nwachukwu the room to exceed operational allowance.

In a statement via email, WAPA highlighted its findings after the raid.

WAPA alleged that the home, located in Egbeda, Lagos, was used as venue for child trafficking, saying that the coordinator would soon be charged to court.

The ministry alleged further that the home perpetrated illegal activities and subjected the children to deteriorating conditions.

The statement said, “Upon investigations, it was discovered that Nwachukwu trafficked 27 children kept in a room, using them to raise money and defraud innocent members of the public, who may need assistance in child adoption.

“The 25 children were rescued and the whereabouts of the remaining two children remains unknown.”

It said its investigation showed that there were no records on each of the children, “No evidence of how the children got to her and no form of police or security report.”

Reacting to these allegations, counsel for Nwachukwu, Austin Awuluo, told our correspondent on the telephone that WAPA had no basis to establish child trafficking charges against her.

He said she had, over the years, operated the home on the basis of fairness, passion and good intentions.

Awuluo said it was not true that the home had no records saying that WAPA officials took away the children’s records when they raided the home.

He also wondered why WAPA suddenly decided to withdraw the license it had issued to Nwachukwu some years back.

An Ikeja Magistrate’s Court, Lagos State has ordered the remand of a 55-year-old woman, Rose Nwachuwku, in police custody for allegedly running an unlawful orphanage.

The Lagos State Government on Thursday claimed it rescued 25 children from the orphanage home located in the Egbeda area of the state which, it said was being used as a front for child trafficking.

The alleged illegal orphanage, named, Saint Stephen Charity Foundation, on Abiodun Adebanbo Street, Egbeda, was said to have been operating for 12 years.

On Friday, authorities brought Nwachukwu before a Magistrate, Mrs Eniola Fabamwo, who ordered that the accused should be remanded till Monday when her case would be heard by the appropriate court.

The police filed one count of operation of unlawful orphanage against her.

The police prosecutor, an Assistant Suprintendent of Police, Barth Nwaokoye, alleged that Nwachuwku, committed the offence between January 2011 and August 17, 2013 at 30/32, Prince Adebambo Street, in Egbeda area of Lagos.

Why not give half of that money to IITA to train hundreds of youths here locally, and give them the other half as a lump sum of money/capital base for commercial farming?. Your perceived vultures and bitter people are not responsibly for the incompetence and corruption preventing that train from reaching it's destination in Kano so why misplace blame?

Was the contract awarded to the bitter people and vultures or are they in charge of the project?

Guk: Am still amazed at the ease with which we are hoodwinked in Nigeria.

(1) Airline passenger growth is fuelled by lack of alternatives like good road travel & proper rail travel.

(2) The decline in the figures were largely due to fear of flying after the Dana crash (An aftermath that saw the wealthy flying from Lagos to London to fly to Abuja)

(3) The fragility of his growth figure is obvious. If only 1 airline could affect the growth % so much, then it means, the industry is fragile meaning the % figure would have disappeared if AERO & ARIK pulled out of the industry.

(4) Its curious Dana could have brought down the % growth but AIR Nigeria did not...hmm

(5) We should be challenging him and his boss Stella Oduah for the high taxes collected on Airfares & what they do with it instead of sycopantly praising them. A one way ticket to Abuja of 18,000 gives 25% to the airline and the remainder is Aviation Tax

The three-count charge against the former governor by the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) was quashed due to lack of merits .

“No prima facie case has been established against accused applicant. The prosecution failed to file affidavit evidence in support of the count-amended charges. The tribunal has no jurisdiction to proceed. The charges are hereby quashed and the accused person discharged,” the chairman said. grin grin

He was said to have operated 16 foreign bank accounts between 1999 and 2007 while he was governor of Lagos State.Chairman of the Tribunal, Justice Umar Yakubu, ruled however that the prosecution failed to produce affidavit of evidence to buttress its claims .In particular, he said once an amendment charge is presented before the court, it becomes a fresh charge, thus providing the basis for dismissing the previous one.
grin grin

Yakubu ruled that that CCB did not show how Tinubu operated the foreign accounts in question. He added that the names so far traced to the accounts do not belong to him ,rather they are names of the former governor’s relatives. Specifically the tribunal said the prosecution did not state that Tinubu committed the alleged offence by proxy. grin grin
