There is a place in Nebraska, called Omaha. It is also the name of AIT Reporter, Ngozi Omaha.

When Dr. Sam Mbakwe wanted to establish the Imo State University he sought technical assistance from Nebraska. That was before Gen. Ike Nwachukwu moved the permanent site to Abia State. Americans also bear Ike. President Dwight David Eisenhower was known as Ike. Another Ike married pop star, Tina Turner.

The connection is deep. Theophilus Uzochukwu Chukwuemeka Okonkwo left his Canadian university in 1955 to study at Patrice Lumumba Friendship University, Moscow. The Soviets tagged him American spy and expelled the young man.

Chinedu Echeruo and Tobenna Arodiogbu are making clean money and employing Americans. In entertainment, there are Emmy Award-winning actress, Uzoamaka Nwanneka Aduba, Tyler Okonma and Jidenna. In sports, it is a success story. Azuka Habour left Enugu Rangers in 1982, by 1991 he was the American professional soccer leading scorer. From Maryland Bays, he joined Tampa Bay Rowdies in 1992. Habour ended the season as top scorer with 13 goals. He played for the US national team at Saudi 1992. After him came Oguchialu Chilioke Onyewu who played at the Germany 2006 World Cup. Nnemkadi Ogwumike helped defeat D’ Tigress last year in Tenerife. Chinwoke Mbadinuju, yes, the ex-governor, played football for America in 1969 while at New York State University. Junior players include Amechi Igwe, son of ‘World Two’ Tony Igwe, Amechi Anugu, Mathew Okoh and Ike Opara.

In basketball, you will find Emeka Okafor and Chinanu Onuaku who captained the US to gold at the FIBA Under-19 championship, Greece 2015. Prominent athletes include Courtney Okolo, Barbara Nwaba, Amarachi Ukabam, Jessica Onyepunuka, Jennifer Madu and Keturah Orji. Glory Asumnu and Emerald Egwim pledged allegiance to Nigeria after competing for America while Christie Opara-Thompson did the opposite. Claudia Anyaso caps it all. She is American, got married to an Igbo. In 1986, Claudia was at United States Information Service, Lagos. Over a decade after leaving Nigeria, she returned to the US Embassy in Abuja. Former Governor of Abia state and Chief Whip of the Senate, Orji Kalu has debunked the insinuation that he cancelled his medical trip to Germany because he was afraid of being given the Ekweremadu treatment.

Recall that former Deputy Senate President, Senator Ike Ekweremadu was at the weekend attacked in Nuremberg, Germany by irate IPOB members when he attended the annual New Yam Festival organized by the Igbo community in Germany.

In the video clips, the angry mob was seen preventing the lawmaker from escaping, but he was later whisked away in a Mercedes-Benz car, even as the mob continued to beat him.

Speaking on Monday, Kalu said he did not suspend his planned medical check-up to Germany because of what happened to Sen. Ike Ekweremadu.

“I have been in my country home interacting with the people and settling disputes. The news that I suspended by planned medical check-up in Germany was not true.

“I was invited by Igbo group in Spain to attend their function, I could not go because of the interaction with my constituents.’’

Kalu had described the action of the IPOB members as uncivilised, unacceptable and barbaric, urging Igbo people to respect their leaders at all levels.

He noted that the only way the South-East zone can be prosperous was by embracing dialogue, peace and unity.

Kalu also urged the Embassy of Nigeria in Germany, the German Government and appropriate authorities to bring the perpetrators of the ugly incident to book.

He said: “After watching a viral video of the physical attack on former Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweramadu, I was not only disappointed but irritated and disturbed with the action of some members of IPOB.

“The assault on the senator is a slap on Igbo leaders regardless of age, party affiliation and religion. The perpetrators of the uncivilised act must face the wrath of the law.

“Sen. Ekweramadu is not only one of the Igbo leaders, but also a prominent Nigerian and as such should be accorded due respect by all and sundry at home and abroad.

“For the South-East to move forward, the people of the zone must embrace dialogue as a way of resolving pertinent issues and eschew violence.”

A violent clash erupted on Sunday morning between the Hausa community and the Yoruba community in Oke -Odo market, at the Alimosho area of Lagos.

Information has it that the fight which started as a minor misunderstanding between a Yoruba hoodlum, popularly known as ‘Area Boy’ and an Hausa scavenger in the market, escalated into a bloody clash.

Eye witness account has it that the Area Boy, who was carrying some goods on his head was pushed by the Hausa scavenger in error and the goods fell down.

According to a man who gave his name simply as Shola, “ The Area boy was angry when the goods he was carrying fell. The Hausa man just said sorry and walked away. Out of anger, the Area Boy dragged the Hausa man back and an argument ensued between the two parties.

“ The argument led to a fight and their friends joined in the fight. It suddenly became an Hausa and Yoruba fight as both tribe started attacking shop owners they knew to be from the opposite tribes.

While many were injured in the clash, it took the intervention of men from the Rapid Response Squad, the Lagos State Taskforce and other units of the Lagos State Police Command to restore peace in the area.

Confirming the incident, the Lagos Police Spokesperson, Elkana Bala said five suspects – Kabiru Mohammed, Kabiru Adamu, Bashiru Mohammed, Saliu Madu and Yusuf Amuda – were arrested in connection with the breach of peace.

Giving further details on the incident, Bala said, “ On August 18, 2019, at 10.00am, Alhaji Adekunle Habib, of Ilepo market reported at Oke Ode Police Station that there was a misunderstanding between one Hausa scavenger and an Area Boy from yoruba ethnic group.

“ The Area Boy was carrying some goods on his head and was pushed by the Hausa boy in error and the goods fell down. Arguments ensued between the two parties which led to exchange of blows.

“ Friends of the two parties joined in solidarity fight and other miscreants took advantage of the moment to steal and loot. They blocked Lagos/Abeokuta express way. What started as a fight between two miscreants almost snowballed into ethnic crises, if not for the timely intervention of the Police.

“ Police teams from Oke Odo Division were the initial responders. The Command sent reinforcements from the Operations Department, Rapid Response Squads, Taskforce, Tactical Units and Police Mobile Force. Divisions within the Area Command equally sent reinforcements.

“ The situation was brought under control and traffic cleared. No death recorded but four persons sustained various degrees of injuries and are receiving medical attention. Normalcy has been restored and patrols are ongoing in the affected areas.”

The police spokesperson said the arrested suspects will be charged to court.

A community will gather money and buy transformer, pay NEPA to install it and d maintenance of d said transformer still rests on the community. But yet, it is NEPA properties. Despite all these, they still bring exorbitant bills to the same people.
Nigeria is still a mystery to me.

I think you don't have the right to the auth code again once you push the name to the buyer.
