EducationKyoto University Japan Allows Students To Wear Anything They Want For Graduation by AImiron(op): 7:09pm On Nov 24, 2023
Kyoto University in Japan switched up its boring, long ceremonies from solemn speeches and routine name-calls to a fun and interactive ritual. The university allowed students to arrive at the ceremony in anything they wished to wear. However, the university did not expect its students to take “anything” quite literally.

After the permit was greenlit, a ritual was set in a place where students would come to the ceremony in bizarre cosplays. The annual event is not only a highlight for the students but is also much-awaited by the relatives of the students who are also invited to the event.

The ritual was first set in stone by Tokyo University, after which Kyoto followed suit. Traditionally, Universities in Japan witness students don suits, dresses, or women's classic hakama kimonos. But the change in regime at Kyoto University allowed its students to express their identities while receiving their prized graduate degrees.

David Hajime Kornhauser, director of global communications at Kyoto University, told Bored Panda, “The university has a long tradition of being anti-authoritarian. So I'm guessing the roots go back quite a long time, though the university officially doesn't condone it.”

He shared that the sentiment of the university is about liberty, “it's kind of a personal preference, do people want to be sort of traditional or are they just doing something to express themselves in some other way or not?”

According to David, not all students take part in the merriment, “It seems that for a long time, students at this university have chosen just to be whatever they want to be. But it's actually not a large number of people. I mean, it's mainly, I would say, it isn't even 10%. And they stand out because they try to sit up front. So it looks like there's a lot of people doing it, but actually, I think, it's probably only just the people right at the front, and then the vast majority of the graduates are more or less traditional.”

SportsLionel Messi's Argentina Hand Brazil First-ever Home World Cup Qualifier Defeat by AImiron(op):
Fighting broke out in stands before World Cup qualifier, with police charging Argentina supporters; Lionel Messi and Emiliano Martinez among players who tried to intervene; Nicolas Otamendi scored second-half winner and Joelinton sent off in dramatic meeting; Brazil now sixth in standings.

Lionel Messi and Emiliano Martinez tried to intervene as police clashed with Argentina fans before they dealt Brazil a historic defeat at the Maracana in a World Cup qualifier.

The longstanding sporting rivalry between two of the most successful teams in world football hit fever pitch after the Brazilian police charged Argentinian fans in response to fighting in the stands during the national anthems.

The world champions, led by captain Messi, went over to the terraces to try and calm the situation. During the clashes, Messi appealed for the clashes to stop and Martinez was filmed reaching into the crowd to try to stop a police officer using a baton. The Argentina players then left the pitch and returned to the dressing room for more than 10 minutes.

The match - delayed by 30 minutes - started in a tumult of noise as local fans roared their support of the five-times world champions, who were looking to get their campaign back on track after losing successive qualifiers for the first time.

However, Nicolas Otamendi scored with a towering header to give Argentina a 1-0 victory - the first time ever Brazil had lost a home World Cup qualifier.

Brazil stand sixth in the South America World Cup qualifying standings, eight points behind leaders Argentina and in the last spot that guarantees a berth at the 2026 finals.

Messi: They were beating people - but this is one of our most important wins
"The truth is that this group continues to achieve historic things, once again," Argentina captain Lionel Messi told reporters.

SportsMbappe Says Messi 'had To Win' Ballon D'or After World Cup Glory by AImiron(op): 7:17pm On Nov 17, 2023
Kylian Mbappe is adamant Lionel Messi deserved to scoop a record-extending eighth Ballon d'Or after winning last winter's World Cup in Qatar.

The Argentina captain collected the individual accolade at a ceremony in Paris last month, with Mbappe and Manchester City striker Erling Haaland each earning a spot on the podium.

Messi was voted the Player of the Tournament in Qatar after scoring seven goals on his way to lifting the trophy, netting two in the final victory over France.

Golden Boot winner Mbappe bagged a hat-trick in that match and finished with 41 goals from 43 appearances across all competitions with Paris Saint-Germain last season — but still believes his former club team-mate was worthy of the Ballon d'Or.

Speaking ahead of tomorrow's Euro 2024 qualifier with Gibraltar, the France skipper said: "Messi had to win it. He won the World Cup, he's one of the greatest in history, if not the greatest for me.”

"Haaland had a great season, me too, but next to winning a World Cup it doesn't weigh much.

On the night of December 18 I knew that I had lost the World Cup and the Ballon d'Or too. Leo deserved it."

Mbappe also discussed another player who may become a Ballon d'Or contender in the coming years — club and international colleague Warren Zaire-Emery.

PSG's 17-year-old sensation is part of Didier Deschamps' Les Bleus squad after scoring two goals and assisting five more in 15 matches across Ligue 1 and the Champions League this season.

Mbappe added: "He is fascinating. He is very mature, plays with a lot of personality. He is not afraid to take the ball, to bring his team up, like modern midfielders.
"I have no advice to give him, he is a starter at PSG at 17. Even if he will make mistakes, he will learn very quickly and on his own.

"The guy plays three times a week and does his homework. We just have to protect and support him. On the field, he has to be himself."

CelebritiesAt 52, Snoop Dogg Says He Is Quitting Smoking by AImiron(op): 6:56pm On Nov 16, 2023
Snoop Dogg’s notorious love for consuming weed could be about to go up in smoke, as the rapper claimed to fans on Thursday that he is quitting smoking.

Fans were immediately unconvinced by the admission, with some wondering if it was just a publicity stunt ahead of a new business venture with edibles.

'I’m giving up smoke,' the rapper claimed in his post, which included a fuller statement reading: 'After much consideration with my family, I've decided to give up smoke.'

The 52-year-old added before signing off the message, 'Please respect my privacy at this time.'

It has come as a shock to fans of the veteran rapper due to his open appreciation for the drug, which has extended to numerous business ventures, among them edibles, weed strains and a digital media business devoted to marijuana related news.

It was once claimed that the rapper - born Calvin Cordozar Broadus Jr - had someone rolling 75-150 joints for him per day, which he would later dispute and dismiss.

Renegade Piranha, who had claimed to be Snoop's 'personal blunt roller' (PBR) said last year: 'On average, I do about half a pound a day, which seems excessive. So that's roughly like 75 to 150 units per day. I calculate it at over 450,000 blunts.'

However, in March this year he admitted he had moderated his weed intake after becoming a grandfather.

Speaking to DailyMail.com in March, Snoop said his personal use was scrutinized after eldest child Cordé became a father to son Zion in 2015.

'Being a grandfather has changed me in multiple ways,' he said.

'The main way is being concerned with how I live, how I move, the kind of people I’m associated with, because I want to see my grandkids grow old.

The only way I can do that is to take precautionary steps as far as how I move, who I hang out with, where I go out, my intake, what am I intaking?

'Am I doing extra-curricular or am I just doing what I’m supposed to be doing?'

The father-of-four is a parent to Cordé, 28, Cordell, 26, and Cori, 23, from his 25-year marriage to Shante Broadus, and son Julian, 25 from a former relationship with Laurie Holmond.

Snoop is no stranger to weed and revealed in a 2013 Twitter Q&A that he smokes up to 81 blunts per day, which is consistent with the estimate of his personal joint roller.

In 2015, the rap artist launched his own platform called Merry Jane, a lifestyle media site that serves as an information hub for everyone interested in weed geared towards the occasional to the daily smoker.

CrimePsychiatrist Used AI To Create Child Porn, Sentenced To 40 Years In Prison by AImiron(op): 7:52pm On Nov 11, 2023
A child psychiatrist in Charlotte, N.C., has been sentenced to 40 years in prison for using artificial intelligence (AI) to create child pornography and secretly recording his 15-year-old cousin as she showered, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office in the Western District of North Carolina.

David Tatum, 41, created the AI images by modifying pictures of ex-girlfriends with sexually explicit images of minors which he had obtained online. Tatum digitally altered images from a school dance and a photo commemorating the first day of school to make them sexually explicit, prosecutors said.

Tatum viewed more than 1,000 files of child pornography titles, all of which contained the phrase, "PTHC," which stands for "pre-teen hard core."

He possessed the child pornography from 2016 through 2021, according to court documents viewed by Fox News Digital.

The pervert also secretly recorded his 15-year-old cousin as she got naked in a bathroom to shower at a family vacation home in Maine.

Tatum surreptitiously recorded other family members too, including more minors, getting naked and showering in the bathroom, according to the court documents.

According to trial evidence, Tatum made similar surreptitious recordings of others, including of his patient who had just turned 18 years old five days prior.

Tatum was convicted in May of one count of the production of child pornography, one count of the transportation of child pornography and one count of the possession of child pornography. His sentence will be followed by 30 years of supervised release for the sexual exploitation of a minor and using artificial intelligence (AI) to create child pornography images of minors.

Tatum was also ordered to pay a special assessment totaling $99 and a further $100 special assessment per count of conviction.

After he is released from prison, Tatum will be required to register with the Sex Offender Registry Board in any state or jurisdiction where he works or resides, the U.S. Attorney's Office in the Western District of North Carolina said.

Dena J. King, the U.S. Attorney for the Western District of North Carolina, said Tatum’s crimes were even more damning given to his profession as a child psychiatrist.

"Tatum knew the damaging, long-lasting impact sexual exploitation has on the wellbeing of victimized children, King said. "Regardless, he engaged in the depraved practice of using secret recordings of his victims to create illicit images and videos of them."

Tatum, King said, used artificial intelligence to victimize children.

[The] 40-year sentence underscores our efforts to do all we can to bring justice to child victims. As the field of artificial intelligence advances, my office is committed to prosecuting predators who seek to exploit this technologyto inflict harm on children."

Robert DeWitt, a Special Agent in charge of the FBI in North Carolina, echoed King’s sentiments.

"It is horrific to believe anyone would secretly record children undressing and showering for their own sexual gratification," DeWitt said.

"And when the evidence proves that person is a doctor entrusted to help children through difficult mental health situations, it is inconceivable. The FBI will never stop working to put predators like Tatum behind bars for a very long time."

SportsLionel Messi Presents The Ballon D'or To Inter Miami Fans by AImiron(op): 10:27am On Nov 11, 2023
Lionel Messi held the Ballon d'Or over his head as fireworks lit up the sky to bring a pregame ceremony to a close. And with that, Inter Miami CF got to celebrate the game's greatest player one more time in 2023.

Messi was on the field for his Major League Soccer club on Friday night for a friendly against New York City FC, a match put together to commemorate his eighth time winning the Ballon d'Or -- presented annually to the game's top player -- at a black-tie ceremony in Paris last month. No other player has won that award more than five times.

Messi played all the match against NYCFC but Miami lost 2-1. Talles Magno and Julián Fernández scored for New York. Miami's substitute, Robert Robinson, gave the home team its only goal with ten minutes left.

Messi -- carrying the trophy in his left hand -- walked to midfield on a gold carpet laid out across the pitch, where MLS Commissioner Don Garber was among those awaiting his arrival for a brief pregame ceremony. He embraced Garber, Inter Miami owners Jorge and Jose Mas, then hoisted the trophy as the crowd roared.

"It's beautiful to share it with you all," Messi said. "I've been here for a short time, but it seems like a long time."

Here's how big a deal the moment was: Even Garber pulled out his cell phone to take a picture of the moment.

"You, Inter Miami fans, have the best player who's ever played the game," Garber said. "The winner of his eighth Ballon d'Or, the guy who lifted as captain the Leagues Cup for your team, thank you Leo for your belief in Major League Soccer and making your club and your league a league of choice."

It was a perfect bookend to Messi's first four months officially as part of club: Year 1 started with an on-field party and ended with another celebration with a look ahead to Year 2.

"He's the main star of this match and we want to join him celebrating his eighth Ballon d'Or," Inter Miami coach Gerardo "Tata" Martino said. "It's an opportunity also for us to compete. Even if it's a friendly it's an opportunity for the people and the fans to see Leo and his teammates on the field and say goodbye to the year."

Messi stayed on the pitch for the whole match against NYCFC but Miami lost 2-1. Talles Magno and Julián Fernández scored for New York. Miami's substitute, Robbie Robinson, gave the home team its only goal with ten minutes left.

It was a bonus chance at a farewell, at least on the home turf. Inter Miami's home schedule was completed more than three weeks ago, with Messi not playing that night - he had just gotten back from a pair of World Cup qualifiers with Argentina.

Inter Miami was supposed to play a pair of games in China earlier this month, only to see that trip fall through because of what the team called "unforeseen circumstances." When that fell through, Inter Miami settled on another option - getting NYCFC to play the exhibition. Messi has been training with the team for much of the last two weeks, arriving at the team facility the morning after getting the Ballon d'Or in Paris.

"I would like to thank all the people of Miami, not just the ones here in the stadium," Messi said. "The treatment for myself and my family ... you've made me feel at home."

Messi will likely play at least twice more in 2023 - Argentina has World Cup qualifying games against Uruguay (in Buenos Aires) on Nov. 16 and Brazil (in Rio de Janeiro) on Nov. 21.

The team will likely begin training for 2024 in January, with the MLS regular season possibly starting in late February. It will be a hectic year for Inter Miami, which won Leagues Cup -- its first-ever trophy -- shortly after Messi signed with the club this summer. The club will play in that tournament along with the U.S. Open Cup and the CONCACAF Champions Cup in addition to the MLS slate in 2024.

Foreign AffairsKenneth Darlington Shoots And Kills 2 Climate Protesters In Panama by AImiron(op): 12:27am On Nov 10, 2023
An elderly American has been arrested after a gunman was caught on camera walking up to environmental protesters blocking a Panamanian highway Tuesday and blasting two of them to death.

Disturbing footage showed a man with gray hair and glasses casually approaching the blockade on the Pan-American Highway and waving his finger while arguing with the demonstrators — before pulling out a gun and opening fire.

Other footage showed people standing around bodies in the road in the Chame sector west of Panama City as well as the gunman being cuffed and led to a squad car.

Police later shared a photo of the suspect handcuffed to a pipe as he was identified as Kenneth Darlington, 77, a lawyer and professor who holds dual citizenship in the US and Panama, according to Newsroom Panama and Agence France-Presse

One of the shot protesters died at the scene while the second was pronounced dead at a local hospital, AFP said.

The violence came during the third week of protests over a large mining contract that allows Canada-based First Quantum Minerals to operate the region’s largest pit copper mine for at least 20 more years.

The roadblocks have caused up to $80 million in daily losses to businesses and have shuttered schools nationwide for more than a week.

Panama President Laurentino Cortizo sent his condolences to the dead protesters’ families, saying that such a crime “has no place” in his nation’s supportive society.

The deadly shooting came after Panamanian media reported that a demonstrator was run over and killed last week by a foreigner attempting to drive past a roadblock.

The 19,000-mile Pan-American Highway is the world’s longest route, spanning from Alaska to Argentina with a break in the Darién Gap.

SportsMessi Lauds Zinedine Zidane, Calls Him 'One Of The Greatest Players In History’ by AImiron(op): 8:47pm On Nov 09, 2023
Argentina and Inter Miami superstar Lionel Messi showered praise on legendary French footballer Zinedine Zidane in a recent interview.

Zidane is widely regarded as one of the finest players to grace the football field. The Frenchman was known for his immaculate playmaking skills, dribbling ability, and elegance on the ball.

Zidane won 13 major titles for club and country, including the FIFA World Cup (1998) and the UEFA Champions League (2001-02), during a 17-year-long senior career.

The 1998 Ballon d'Or winner made over 200 appearances each for Juventus and Real Madrid before hanging up his boots in 2006.

Messi recently sat down with the 51-year-old Frenchman for an interview put in place by Adidas Football. The Argentine superstar lauded Zidane and called him 'one of the greatest players in history'.

Messi said (h/t @AlbicelesteTalk on X):

"I am not saying this because he is here, but I have said it several times before. Zidane is one of the greatest players in history, and I have always admired and loved him. I used to follow him a lot in Madrid and I also suffered from him a lot because I am from Barcelona. Zidane is elegance, art, magic and everything.”

I have many memories of him, including his goal against Leverkusen in the Champions League final, his goals against Brazil in the World Cup final, the iconic spinning move he used to do, and the famous Valencia goal."

Like Messi, Zidane played in two FIFA World Cup finals — losing and winning one each. He scored a brace in the 1998 edition when France beat Brazil 3-0 in the final and also got his name on the scoresheet in the 2006 final against Italy. However, He was sent off for a headbutt on Marco Materazzi, with Les Bleus losing the final on penalties.

" I have not regretted anything in my career, but the 2014 World Cup final is still stuck in my mind, although I can forget it a little with this World Cup..."

Messi scored four goals and provided an assist in six 2014 FIFA World Cup matches before the final against Germany. But the former Barcelona superstar was largely kept quiet by the German's solid backline.Mario Gotze came on in extra time to score the winner and hand Germany their fourth FIFA World Cup title. Eight and a half years later, Messi finally got his hands on the coveted trophy when Argentina beat France in the final on penalties (3-3 A.E.T).
