The poorest Nigerians dem promise no dey twitter and facebook and Nairaland. Dem dey think of how to eat as we dey speak so. Make una dey use una sense dey reason nah.
So cause they aren't on social media means they should be cheated? They should be denied what they've been promised purely because they are disadvantaged? I don't need their 5k. I need them to pay up those that badly need it and voted based on that promise

Bollinger:
This is where common sense comes into play. I am going to make my own promise; I promise to give every Nairalander one million naira at the end of this month just for posting. Oya come and hold me to it. Common sense should tell you to ask questions like, how am i going to to fund it? How am i going to sustain it? who am i? These are the kind of questions that should have been asked before elections. I am confounded as to why people are crying now. It is not always advisable to let hunger overtake common sense.
This does not hold even a teaspoon of water. In their campaign, Osibanjo clearly elucidated how this was going to work. If it was PDP now you would have been foaming in the mouth. May God deny you the promises he made to you, the way APC are denying the promises they made to Nigerians. AMEN

As long as the BVN database is not queried by the GtBank ATM, this is an exercise in futility. I might as well enter a random 11 digit number to reactivate my account, pull out all the funds and close down the account. Yahoo boys over to you

I am really excited to see this thread and will want to specially thank and give a big thumbs up to the OP. I wish I saw this thread early, I know I would have learnt much more than I have learnt already..
Fortunately am a graduate(2012) of Transport Management(logistics option) and am very proud of my course even though I have not been able to secure a good job yet. I strongly believe I will practice my course because logistics is integral and plays a vital role in any organisation but still very much untapped and overlooked her in Nigeria.

My question is , as a graduate of logistics, what other logistics based programs (affordable grin)will be best for me to study? .

NYSCRe: Should The National Youth Service Corps (nysc) Scheme Be Reformed Or Scrapped? by airsaylongcon: 5:06pm On Nov 03, 2015
MsGlobalwonder:
well, the essence of NYSC is to promote unity and "acculturation" which is already abused. Ideally i'm Yoruba and I wasn't supposed to serve in a SW state, but guess what? I served in my state of Origin! Nothing spectacular. Nothing memorable. I hated it from the camp where nothing works. All I see was waste of resources. For instance, I gathered that the total cost of kit for each corp member is 20,000 naira. You can be rest assured all the kits given were not up to 8000naira. The food, no facilities at all.
Some are claiming impact and teaching, blablabla. How many corpers are actually good teachers? How many even stay in their PPA. I taught in a private school and I felt used! Not financially alone; these schools make so much money, they have at least 100students and each pay 20000 naira. Guess what? They have just 4 teachers and 10corpers. The school specially request for corpers. Corpers are equal to free labour. They pay corpers 5000 and their staff 15000. That includes extra hour lessons. It's ridiculous! I felt used. I would rather have learnt some personal and professional trainings than that. Schools should have teachers either public or private. We shouldn't promote mediocrity! The government should employ teachers. The proprietors too should employ and pay teachers well. If that is in place, graduates will be excited to teach for life.
From your post it's safe to say you served in an urban area. Abeokuta I guess. And I'm sure you didn't miraculously get posted to Ogun state, leg was involved. These two things alone would have combined to make your service year unremarkable. You would have been surrounded by your kith and kin in camp and would not have experienced anything new. For the majority of people that serve far from there states, believe me the experience is very rich. More so when u serve in the rural area. Prior to my service year, I would never have touched and ibo person with a 10ft pole as I had hearsay misconceptions about them. And this is me that 100% of all Yoruba people will call ibo even though the only ibo words I knew then was "bia" and "ego". One year serving outside Igbo land but surrounded by loads of Igbo Corp members I can say I have a better understanding of them and their culture. Heck I even translated Igbo on one thread and got a good percentage of it right. What am I saying? When we adulterate the NYSC to suit us we don't see its benefit. As an Ogun girl what stopped you from going to Cross River to serve?

not true! I have served and I can authoritatively tell you it's a sheer waste of time and resources. That's just it!
Care to share your NYSC experience here? Maybe I can highlight one or two things that you benefitted in serving. Remember that the primary purpose of NYSC is to encourage the meetings and sharing of ideas of Nigerian youths across culture.

buh u don't expect me to jst read ccna materials and pass thier proffesional exams nah
The discussion is turning from NYSC been a waste of your time to you just reading CCNA materials o! There's a whole lot of stuff u can do. You can set up a virtual system on your laptop and practice CCNA commands. You can boost your knowledge of Linux (and System Administration) by also creating and playing around with a Virtual Linux server. I bet you have never heard of ITIL certication. You can prepare for that during NYSC. Many graduates have zero use able Microsoft office skills. I asked if you could do a pivot table with Excel? How good are your excel skills? Can you turn a column to become a row? Vice versa? Can you do VLOOKUP, HLOOKUP, INDEX-MATCH? As a computing grad, considerable knowledge of these things is expected of you. I find that by the time I tell a Computer grad to write a simple IF() function in excel, the rubbish that comes from their mouth is "I hate programming".

Walexsammy:
So, meaning u can only achieve this during the service year?
Far from it. But the service year is one of the easiest times you can achieve it. In school you have courses and exams disturbing, in work you have absolutely no time. When serving, you have at least from 2pm till midnight for yourself doing nothing.

we still on same page, ure only opportune to have the center around u, for example, am planning to run HSE program, do u no Diaz no center of such in the state wia I am? Am planning going lag for the program. I studied a computer related course, and to be frank, the cert is not jst enough, the plan has been to equip my self during the service year, right now, there are so many limitations.....Forgive any error...am in a haste
What centre are we talking of here? I said I studied in a backwater and had to commute to PH to use bank and you talk of centre? I read books by myself and when the generator came on I practiced as much as I could. If the immovable mountain will not go to Mohammed, the the mobile Mohammed must go to the mountain.

Like ure forgetting that b4 the engineer can perform well, he must have been given some relevant training....
Training or not, should a mechanical engineer be doing debits and credits in a 'working' country as u put it?

like uve forgotten we all are posted to different jungles where accessibility to some amenities is really problem. Do u no am somewi in edo where there is no network? More than 15-20Km to the city? Am only able to follow this thread cuz I came to visit a friend.....
Where I served we had to literally put our phones on one Tree like dat to receive only one network like that (d one with big gbese). We only had gen light from 7pm-11pm. No bank so we trooped to Port Harcourt to withdraw money. Despite all these I got a job an OK job one month after passing out based purely on computing skills I learnt/brushed up during service year. Plus the number of friends from other parts of the country I would never have dreamt of meeting. NYSC is meant to integrate the Nigerian youths and to that extent it's fulfilling it's purpose.

In a 'working' country, is it suppose to be so?
That is a philosophical question. My response to the post was the he was wrong to say Corp members don't add any value to the economy. They do by teaching. Whether they should is an entirely different question. Should engineers be working in banks? I guess not. But they do and are adding economic value to the country

everyone shouting scrapped have served, am serving now and I can vividly tell u it's a waste of my precious time
I served in one of the backwaters of Rivers state. And I know what it means when you say "it's a waste of my precious time". But wait till you start working then u will yearn for this so called time you think is been wasted. There's no better time to upgrade your skills than when serving. If I asked you how good your computing skills are you'd probably say very good but if I asked you to do an excel pivot table or an APA bibliographic reference using Ms Word, am I safe to say you will struggle?
