PoliticsCost Of Oil Theft Hits 56trillion Naira.. What Is Going On Inthis Country by ajasbaba(op): 4:12pm On Aug 16, 2013
…to recover over N232bn from oil marketers .

The Federal Government has put the environmental cost of oil theft and illegal bunkering in the Niger Delta at $1trn (N156 trn).

The estimate included the direct impact on the environment and the cost of restoring aquatic life destroyed as a result oil spills arsing from oil theft and illegal bunkering in the region.

The Special Adviser to the President on the Niger Delta, Mr. Kingsley Kuku, gave the estimate at a conference on oil theft and illegal bunkering in Lagos yesterday just as the Coordinating Minister for the Economy and Minister of Finance, Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, said that the Federal Government will recover over N232 billion overpayments made to “fraudulent” oil marketers.

Kuku said: “While several estimates have been made regarding the cost of the national economy in revenue and pipeline repair, no one has calculated the cost to the environment and the livelihood of the people of the Niger Delta.

“No one has calculated the cost of restoring the environment; but extrapolating from the cost of restoring aquatic life in the Gulf of Mexico following the BP Gulf Coast spill of 2010, the cost to the Niger Delta will amount to more than $1trn.

Kuku noted that the illegal activities had already undermined the nation’s social structures and if allowed to fester, will turn the entire Niger Delta region into ganglands.

He said that already, people in the chain of oil theft were feared, revered or even admired as people who are doing well in some communities, and those at the top of the chain are probably considered as prominent international oil traders by an unsuspecting public.

“Many vulnerable and impressive young people now aspire to join this growing but extremely dangerous and certainly illegal and immoral business”, he said adding that most of the commentary and literature on oil theft placed emphasis on the cost to the Nigerian economy, which is huge.

“By some estimates, at the peak of our losses, we lost almost 400,000 barrels per day to oil theft and pipeline vandalism. It must be understood though that this figure represents what the country is losing not necessarily what is stolen”, the presidential aide said.

He explained that oil theft invariably entails the destruction of pipelines and once detected would mean the closure of the pipelines to effect repairs which cost a lot of money and take a lot of money and take a lot of time.

“The vicious circle of vandalism, detection, repairs and back to vandalism is what results into the estimated loss; part of which would of course be the actual stolen crude. It is therefore difficult to correctly estimate how much is actually stolen.

“The bleeding of our economy must stop so that we earn more to fund development all over the country. This bleeding must stop so that the Niger Delta people can fulfill their full economic potential, he said.

The Commander, Operation Pulo Shield, Major General Bata Debiro stated that his team has arrested and destroyed several vessels suspected to have been used for oil theft and illegal bunkering in the area.

The Director-General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, NIMASA, Mr. Patrick Akpobolokemi stated that oil has become a curse than blessing as a result of increased pollution occasioned by abuse of the product. He called for improved surveillance in order to ensure that perpetrators were arrested and prosecuted.

The communiqué issued at the end of the conference alleged that the nation’s still lost commercial crude at the point of loading for export to the global market. Participants called for increased collaboration between government agencies, the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, international oil companies and security institutions to tackle oil theft, illegal bunkering and other vices in the industry.

They called for the early passage of the Petroleum Industry Bill, PIB into law in order to create and empower adequate structures to stimulate operations in the industry as well as increased funding of agencies, fast socio-economic development of the Niger Delta, sanction of culprits and relocation of the headquarters of oil firms to the Niger Delta in order to increase their commitment to tackling oil theft and illegal bunkering as well as efficient operations of the industry at minimum cost.

Meanwhile, the Minister of Finance, Dr Ngozi Okonjo- Iweala, has said that the Federal Government will recover over N232 billion ($1.5 billion) over payments made to “fraudulent” oil marketers.

Okonjo-Iweala, who spoke at the meeting of the National Council of Finance and Economic Development, NACOFED, in Minna yesterday said that in 2006, the total petroleum subsidies paid to oil marketing firms amounted to N256 billion (about $1.6 billion) and by 2011 the bill for petroleum subsidy payments had risen sharply to nearly N2.10 trillion ($13 billion).

“Even more striking was the increase in the number of oil marketing firms. While most countries have a few well-organised fuel importers, Nigeria had a total of 143 such firms as at 2011.

“The certification process to verify the actual delivery of imported fuel was also very lax, resulting in widespread fraud in the operation of the scheme,’’ she said.

The minister said there were cases where some firms submitted payment invoices for fuel deliveries in Nigeria when their stated cargo ships were actually berthed elsewhere in South America on the same dates.

She said that the subsidised prices for domestic gasoline in Nigeria also created arbitrage opportunities and resulted in widespread smuggling of fuel products to Nigeria’s neighbouring countries.

To this effect, she said, Nigeria embarked on a comprehensive reform of the downstream petroleum sector by appointing the Aig- Imoukhuede-led Committee, which discovered lapses in the payment processes.

“Following the discoveries, the Federal Government put in place a number of remedial measures to combat fraud in the subsidy scheme.

“First, a tighter payment regime was introduced with new auditors and stricter guidelines for disbursement of subsidy payments. The increased scrutiny has slowed down the payment process somewhat but also greatly reduced the likelihood of fraudulent payments.

EducationASUU Strike: Students Take To ‘ragging’ by ajasbaba(op): 8:45am On Aug 16, 2013
As the strike embarked upon by the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, entered its sixth week, some students have devised “ingenious” means of making money; they declared Wednesday their “rag-day”.

As early as 8:45am, major inter-city roads and streets were literally overtaken by the students, who have been on “forced vacation”, since university lecturers “lowered their pens”, to press home enhancement of allowances.

With their shorts, tops and trousers turned, the young Nigerians approached motorists stocked in traffic as well as passers-by, for money. Though, the “rag-day” was said to be by students of College of Education, ‘Inside FCT’ was told that most of those “ragging” are undergraduates, who have been out of school, since the ongoing strike started.

The university students were said to have taken advantage of the development, to help themselves. One of the students, who gave her name simply as Sindy said: “Seriously, I’m an undergraduate and you know our universities have been on strike for over one month now, and we’ve got needs to meet.

I have to rag at least to make some cool money to keep on keeping on”, she said. Another student, Moses Abahing, said they had to do this, since “some parents and guardians hardly give them pocket money, during strike or holiday periods
RomanceHIV Positive Mother Convicted Of Having Sèx With Friend’s Children by ajasbaba(op): 8:37am On Aug 16, 2013
An HIV-positive Cincinnati woman who admitted to her friends that she’d been having sèx with their teenage boys while babysitting them will reportedly only serve 1 year in prison.

via Cincinnati Inquirer

Candance Morris had good times with other moms in her East Price Hill neighborhood, playing cards and hanging out together.

But what Morris, 32, did with their sons earned her prison time Monday and has the families worried about their sons’ health.

Morris pleaded guilty Monday to four counts of unlawful sèxual contact with minors and was sent by Hamilton County Common Pleas Court Judge Melba Marsh to prison for a year. But it’s unknown how long the two teens she had sèx with have to worry about their health because Morris is HIV-positive.

“I cared for her. I cared for her son,” said the mother of one of the 14-year-olds Morris abused. “I feel like she planned and plotted. I feel betrayed.”

Morris often watched the teens when their parents went out. That’s what happened New Year’s Eve when she said she’d watch the boys.

“We were going to church and she knew that and she blew my phone up (asking) to bring my baby over,” the mother said.

While partying, Morris admitted she smoked many marijuana joints, drank a half-gallon of vodka as well as beer and champagne. Then she got in bed with the teens and had sèx with both of them at the same time multiple ways.

That stayed a secret until Morris argued with one of the mothers, got into a physical altercation with her and then shouted that she’d had sèx – in a more profane way – with the woman’s son.

“I apologize for the pain that I caused and I know my actions were irresponsible,” Morris told the judge, blaming “my bad habits” for the incident. “I would never have done it intentionally.”

What sick and twisted slorebag this woman has to be to do something like this. Just NASTY!
SportsS-C-A-N-D-A-L! Poor Funding Squeezes Nigeria In Moscow by ajasbaba(op): 2:01pm On Aug 15, 2013
The poor funding of other sports other than football has had it’s toll on Nigeria here.
It is a scandal by all standards in sports.

Athletics Federation of Nigeria took athletes to the World Championships (equivalent of World Cup in soccer) without even a day’s camping.

They did not have money to organise a camp for the athletes that they brought here. It is a shame. Only N15m was approved for the championships and the money, we gathered, was released after the delegation landed here in Moscow for the 14th edition of the World Championships.

It’s a long time apathy for which Solomon Ogba, the President of Athletics Federation of Nigeria says the current sports Minister is determined to stop.

The effect of this here in Moscow came to bare when officials discovered that Ajoke Odumosu, the 400m hurdler is injured that she could not train well what more competing among the best in the world. But Nigeria entered her for the event. And in order to avoid sanctions Ajoke had to line out for the event. And what did she do? She beat the gun two times and fouled out.

Beating gun in a 400m event? And two times for that matter? And in hurdles for that matter? It was simply ridiculous and Nigeria bore the shame that could have been avoided if there was even a one week camping for the coaches to assess the athletes they were taking to the WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS.

Ajoke has been a top athlete for Nigeria and one known for making sacrifices to don the Nigerian colours. She is among the only four Nigerians with A Standard qualification for the World Championships, the others being 400m runner, Regina George, Gloria Asunmu, the sprinter and of course Blessing Okagbare who is a Long Jump silver medallist and who begins another medal chase in the 200m today.

Tosin Oke, the male Triple Jumper is also not fit. The coaches only found out here. And that’s how Nigeria has become almost a one- athlete nation.

Track and field is an individual sport so the current form or fitness of athletes who train on their own and under their various coaches can only be properly assessed in closed camping shortly before championships which could be months after their qualification marks.

“We would not have had this problem if we had money to camp athletes for even a short time,” one AFN official lamented, adding “it’s a shame that this is happening to a Nigerian team in the World Championships.”

Another official said that the media should help in educating the government on what their priorities should be when planning their allocations for sports development.

Sports Minister Bolaji Abdullahi is here in Moscow and he appears more determined to turn around sports in Nigeria.

But the rot before he came was deep and his achievement would depend on not only planning but how he succeeds in making government approve more funds for sports and how he reorganises the NSC and ensures transparency in the management of the available little funds.

Abdullahi, however, leaves Russia a happy man as Nigeria broke a 14 year old medal drought in the World Championships. It is equally so for all members of the AFN especially Ogba who has been spending his personal money to run athletics in Nigeria.

RomanceFor Ladies – 4 Types Of “nice Men” You Should Avoid!!! by ajasbaba(op): 12:16pm On Aug 15, 2013
Ever met a guy who started off being ‘Mr. Too Nice’ and then turned out to be ‘Mr. Not Nice At All’? At first, he is clingy, he is too sweet, and he is so caring, but right when you decide to give in and give him a chance, that is when the ‘Not So Nice Guy’ rears his ugly head. He may not realize this, but he feeds off of rejection, and when someone treats him favorably, he can no longer participate at his pity party. This may be news to some of you, but there are about four different kinds of ‘nice’ guys lurking out there, and once you find that out, you will never fall for the nice-guy act again.

1. The Guy Who Says “I am a Nice Guy”
When someone has to tell you that they are nice, there goes your red flag. He is really trying to convince himself that he is nice and not you, necessarily. The “nice guy” uses the phrase “nice guys finish last” as their mating call. They say this with hopes that you feel sorry for them and give them a chance, when in fact the reason they finish last is because they are bitter and mean. In my opinion, nice guys finish last because they are not that nice, it may be because they lack confidence in themselves. Have you ever turned down a guy who has too much confidence? Well, that is highly unlikely. Avoid this sour puss.

2. The Loner
Of course, everyone cannot be a social butterfly, but if you find that your suitor is failing in the friend department that may definitely be a red flag. Some “nice” guys really turn out to be loners. He will share with you tales of friends, who have done him wrong in the past, or who don’t come around anymore. You will start to question if he is the problem. Okay, what I am trying to tell you is that he is the problem, he’s the really, big problem. At first you think he may be just be timid and introverted, then you realize he is just not nice to people. Push this guy away before he tries to push you away first.

3. The Self Centered Nice Guy
This version of the nice guy thinks the whole world is against him. He likes to believe that he does so much for other people, but no one ever returns the favor. After weeks of hearing his sad story, you realize he does not do things from his heart he does it because he wants the recognition.
Therefore, every time he does a favor for you he will keep tally, so that the one time he asks you for help and you say no, he will deem you a horrible person whom he will forever remember as one of the people who did so much for and got nothing in return. Tell him to get over himself and move on.

4. Mr. Split Personality
At times, he is sweet as pie but at unexpected times, he is the other way round. After examining this specimen of a man, I have realized their nice guy role is a role they have been playing all their life. In fact, these guys tend to be mean and sometimes verbally abuse. He goes from hot to cold in a split second possibly because he is been holding his true self in for too long. My only advice for you is to just run!

Romance14-year-old Boy Locks Teacher In The Classroom And Repeatedly Rapés Her by ajasbaba(op): 8:33am On Aug 15, 2013
A 14-year-old schoolboy has been jailed after he barricaded his teacher inside a classroom then laughed as he séxually assaulted her.

Desperate colleagues tried to break down the door when they heard the teacher screaming for help but could not stop the boy, now 15, from Wrexham.

Staff fought their way into the school's computer room and pulled the 'distressed and terrified' teacher to safety.

photo

The teenager, who admitted séxual assault and was sentenced to four years’ youth detention, had put his hand up her skirt and forced himself on her.

Prosecutor Karl Scholz told Mold Crown Court: 'The teacher and the boy were in the classroom when he closed the door and snapped the latch shut.

'He told her he had things on his mind and took hold of her and hugged her.

'She managed to get away and wanted to leave the room but realised the door was locked.

'The schoolboy then put his hand up the teacher’s skirt and carried out a serious séxual assault on her.'

Mr Scholz said staff outside could hear their colleague scream and the boy laughing.

When they eventually got in the teacher was 'very distressed' and had a 'terrified' expression on her face.

photo

Mold Crown Court court was told the teacher had been unable to return to work since the horrific school séx attack at the 700-pupil high school in North Wales.

The schoolboy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, had previous convictions for two séxual assaults and was on bail for a third when he attacked his teacher.

Steven Edwards, defending, said the boy had suffered a difficult childhood and had been the victim of abuse.

Judge Greg Bull QC told the schoolboy: 'You attacked one of your teachers, barricaded her into the computer room and forced yourself on her.

'It was a terrifying experience for a woman who was only there to try and help you.'

The teenager was also placed on the séx offenders’ register for life.
SportsWhat Went Wrong For Okagbare In The 100m According To An Expert Trainer by ajasbaba(op): 8:25am On Aug 15, 2013
Blessing Okagbare might have failed to reproduce her recent record-breaking feat that saw her end Gloria Alozie’s African record in the 100m after coming sixth with 11.04secs in Moscow.

But the sprint queen could well have justified her course according to a track and field coach with England, Mike Ofuleka, who insists it is a herculean task to do six jumps in a day and return the following day to compete in two stellar packed 100m line-up.

He was analysing the playback of the 100m races from the heat to the final to Sports Minister Bolaji Abdullahi in the presence of newsmen.

“I think the Long Jump affected her but there were other technical things,” Mike said. “You saw how she started and what happened midway into the race.”

It has been reported that Okagbare, 24, had complained of pains in the morning of the final. She had planned to jump only two times and rest her body for the 100m semi-final and final on Monday.

But America’s Britney Reece pushed her for more with her second leap of 7.01m after the Nigerian had recorded a first jump of 6.89m.

Okagbare eventually completed the six-jump series, hitting a 6.99m effort that earned her silver, but paid for the victory with a rather lackluster and tiresome performance in the 100m the following day.

“Blessing cried all day after the race. Ogba brought her here. It was so painful to her. What pained her most was that the winner of the silver medal, Muriel Ahoure of Ivory Coast ran 10.93, a time that she could easily return,” Abdullahi added.

“I have discussed with AFN President, Chief Solomon Ogba for them to know which event to concentrate on any time a programme of a championships clashes like we had here,” Abdullahi said.

The minister, however, expects Nigerians to be grateful for the silver medal the multi-talented athlete won on Sunday, adding that “she is fine now and ready for the 200m.”

Abdullahi would also like AFN to aim at producing more top class athletes that could compete on the global stage, so as to ease the weight of expectancy on a single candidate. He said the National Sports Commision (NSC), which he heads, will be supportive in ensuring that more competent athletes are produced.

Jamaica’s Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce won the race in 10.71secs and Carmelita Jeter of USA placed third with 10.94.

CrimeMan Cuts Himself, Throws His Intestines At Police by ajasbaba(op): 10:01am On Aug 13, 2013
A man, who stabbed himself and threw pieces of his skin and intestines at cops while they were trying to subdue him, was hospitalized in critical condition Monday, officials said.

Officers found 43-year-old Wayne Carter on Sunday morning, when they responded to reports of a man barricaded in a room in Hackensack, New Jersey while threatening to hurt himself, Lt. John Heinemann said.

Two police officers kicked in the door and saw Carter in a corner, holding a knife, police said. Carter, ignoring officers' orders to drop the knife, stood up and stabbed himself in the abdomen, legs and neck, police said.
Carter yelled at the officers and took an aggressive stance. Officers used pepper spray in an attempt to subdue him, but it had no effect, Heinemann said.

Police said Carter then cut pieces of his skin and intestines, and threw them at the agents.
The officers decided to retreat and called in a SWAT team of Bergen County, Heinemann said. Carter was eventually subdued and was taken to a hospital just before midnight.

No charges have been filed because of the unusual nature of the case, Heinemann said. He said he believes drug use or mental illness may have contributed to Carter's behavior, but that has not been confirmed.
Carter had been arrested in the past for aggravated assault and resisting arrest
SportsSEE Sir Alex Fergerson's Love Letter To The Premier League [MUST READ] by ajasbaba(op): 9:53am On Aug 13, 2013
Football hasn't felt the same since Sir Alex Ferguson announced his retirement and stepped down as manager of Manchester United at the end of last season.

It was a surreal moment for football fans of all generations on Sunday, as the country witnessed United lifting yet another trophy but without their famous coach.

However, those who’ve missed his presence this summer will be pleased to hear that the man many believe to be the greatest manager in the history of football has written about his love for the Barclays Premier League.

End of an era: The football world was shocked when Sir Alex Ferguson announced the news he was to retire

Talking about his experiences in the game, having managed one of the biggest clubs in the world football for almost 27 years, the Scot talks about the state of the game in the modern era, the amazing exposure football presently receives and the culture of youth football Manchester United created during his tenure.

Writing the foreword for the Premier League's official season review, here are his words in full.

Football has been my life and I have had the privilege to be involved in an absolutely fantastic football club in Manchester United.

The fans, the players, my staff – all of them have contributed to something truly remarkable. The trophies we have won, the wonder goals from the wonderful players, the amazing matches we have been involved in, and those dramatic comebacks I remember so fondly now – all of them have to be set in the context of the club and the contribution it has made to English football.

Privilege: Ferguson admits football has been his life and enjoyed many successful Premier League seasons

Many things have changed in the game since my arrival from Aberdeen in November 1986, not least the levels of interest and scale of exposure. At times it is unbelievable the amount of column inches generated from one incident in a match or during the course of a season. But on the whole English football is in a much better place than it was 27 years ago.

Across the leagues, stadiums weren’t what they should have been, the development of players was nowhere near as advanced as it is now, those controlling the game couldn’t give the TV rights away, fans weren’t treated properly and what interest there was in football from government was negative.

There are some with rose-tinted glasses who think football was great a generation ago but nostalgia plays strange tricks with the mind. Back then, football’s role in the cultural make up of the country was arguably in decline. It was a great shame given the joy and life-affirming attributes it gives to me and thousands of others, week in, week out.

Appointment: The Scot claims football is in much better shape than it was when he first arrived at Old Trafford

Expectant: Ferguson signs his autograph for young fans during his first days training at the Cliff training ground

Manchester United, perhaps more than any other club, has symbolised the transformation of the English game during the Premier League years.

The club’s commitment to investment at every level shines through.

Top-class players, both purchased and developed; wonderful facilities at Old Trafford and Carrington for players and fans; community programmes that place us at the heart of the community locally and farther afield – the club has set a standard in the Premier League that others strive to better. Sometimes they manage to!

Fine example: Manchester United helped develop Cristiano Ronaldo into one of the best players in the world

Those challenges, season after season, spur the best on to be better. In my time, challengers have come and gone. Some have remained and some have even returned for another go. But competition is healthy and it is what sets this league apart from others in Europe.

You know that no team is going to give you an easy match. The quality and entertainment of the football in the Premier League has increased year on year. It was always getting harder to go out and win the title, to find the right mix of players – youth, experience and attitude.

Challenge: Arsene Wenger (left) and Jose Mourinho (right) both rivalled Ferguson for the Premier League title

After the trophies, both domestic and European, my proudest achievement is the culture of youth development that we created in the best traditions of Matt Busby’s vision for the club. Wonderful players like Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes and Gary Neville set the standard, but there have been and will be plenty more.

There has been a Manchester United Academy graduate in every one of my teams. Our Under 21s won the inaugural Barclays U21 Premier League this season with eight players from within 21 miles of Old Trafford. This is the type of commitment to progressing home grown players that the Elite Player Performance Plan will deliver.

Class of '92: United have continued to produce brilliant footballers through the club's famous youth academy

There are talented boys throughout this country and given the right training, environment and opportunity there is no reason why the whole English game can’t benefit from the hard work and investment of the clubs.

I have enjoyed my last season, and not just because we won the Premier League for the thirteenth time. But there was no luck in the way in which we secured the title.

We did it the right way: good young players combining with and learning from some of the best the Barclays Premier League has ever seen; strong team performances and a never say die attitude – it says something that we came from behind to win 29 points this season.

Lucky for some: Since the Premier League's inception in 1992, Ferguson has gone on to win 13 titles

And the crowds – absolutely tremendous. The send-off I received at The Hawthorns on the final season was great, but my final match at Old Trafford is something neither I nor my family will ever forget.

The Premier League is known the world over for the passion and knowledge of its fans as well as the atmosphere in the grounds.

Not just Old Trafford – the trips to Goodison, St James’, Anfield and White Hart Lane amongst others always produced fantastic support. It’s part of the history and tradition of the English game that drives its success today.

I will miss all of it. But I will enjoy watching the Barclays Premier League continue to develop, producing more wonderful seasons, fantastic sides, high drama, attracting and producing great players. Above all else I am a fan.

Special: Ferguson and his family will never forget the send off he received during his final game at Old Trafford
EducationWAEC 2013: Improvement Of Results Recorded by ajasbaba(op): 8:38am On Aug 13, 2013
Statistics of 2013 West African Examinations Council (WAEC) exams shows improvement of results as compared to the last four years – a recent investigation has revealed.

The examination body published the results last week. According to them, 70 % of the candidates that sat for the 2013 exam had credits in at least five subjects, a great improvement over the 25.99 % of candidates that had credits in English and Mathematics and three other subjects in 2009. This is a positive result indeed, which have been shown amid the stringent measure taken by the examiners is a radical departure from deplorable performances posted by the examination council in the past.

This is despite the increased strict examination conditions that had been imbibed by WAEC in recent times to curb examination malpractices.

Each year as the examinations were conducted came with gradual decline that became worrisome, even as the students that sat for the examination coined terms for describing examination malpractice.

Special WAEC examination centres nicknamed “miracle centres” where examination malpractice was “officially” allowed at the payment of certain whopping amounts of money blossomed.

According to the results, a total of 1,689,188 candidates, consisting of 920,416 male and 750,852 female candidates sat for the examination. A total number of 1,543,683 candidates, representing 91.38 % have their result fully released, while results of 112,865 candidates, representing 6.75 %, are being withheld in connection with various cases of examination malpractice.

While not necessarily sealing the fate of those in this category, the body said, “The cases are being investigated and reports of the investigations will be presented to the Nigeria examinations Committee (NEC) and the committee’s decision will be communicated”.

“A total of 2,176 cases of multiple entries also were discovered during the processing of the results of all candidates who are guilty of this act would be cancelled”.

2009 – total candidates – 1,373,009 (male – 755,955, female – 617,054) – 25.99 % got credit in both English Language and Mathematics and three other subjects.

2010 – total candidates – 1,351,557 (male – 739,664, female – 611, 893) – 50.09 %, made five credits and above, 39.57 % have six credits and above.

Of the total number of candidates that sat for the examination, it was said that 337,071 candidates, representing 24.94 %, obtained credits in English Language, Mathematics and at least three other subjects. A total of 451,187 candidates, 33.38 %, obtained credits and above in English Language, while 560,974 candidates, 41.50 %, obtained credits and above in Mathematics.

In 2012 there was a slight improvement as results of the WASSCE result showed that candidates performed better. A total of 649,156 candidates representing 38.81 % of the total number of candidates that sat for the examination obtained credits in five subjects and above, including English Language and Mathematics.

I have a female friend in my place of work who is HIV positive. I am the only one that is aware of her status. I stand by her and advice on how she can go about her normal life. I pity her a lot; she has no relationship because of her HIV status. Today,I received a call from her that she wants me to advice her on what just happened between her
and our co-worker. She began to explain how she had unprotected s*x with the guy. I became so annoyed. I shouted at her, I asked her why she allowed such thing to happen when she knows her status.
She explained how the guy came to pick her up for party and later took her to his place late at night. She said she never had the intention of being intimate with the guy but the guy insisted. She said that when the guy was adamant, she succumbed to the guy’s
pressure, and asked him of condom. The guy said he did not have condom, that she should not worry that he trusts her. She said she did not want the guy to know her status, moreover she too needed the s*x badly after a long period of not being intimate. Eventually, they did it. The problem now is that she said after the s*x,the guy told her that he is preparing for his wedding
ceremony which would hold in December. After the breaking news, she became worried knowing great damage she might have caused the guy. She said she has been crying since the incident. She said I should advice her on what to do. I said she should call the company doctor for advice because
it was the doctor that discovered she has been infected and helped her to bury the secret to avoid losing her job. She said she can’t call the doctor because the doctor always warn her not have unprotected s*x with anybody. I asked her to tell the guy himself so that he can know the condition of
things before going further to have unprotected s*x with his fiancee or any other girl.

Guys, Ladies….. Be careful, ABSTINENCE is the best for unmarried people. FAITHFULNESS is the key for the married.
PoliticsShekau Taunts Obama, Claims Recent Killings by ajasbaba(op): 8:22am On Aug 13, 2013
Published on August 13, 2013
Abubakar Shekau, the elusive leader of the deadly Islamic sect, Boko Haram, has claimed a series of recent deadly attacks on security forces in the northeast and insisted that he was in “good health” despite the offensive.

A new video released Monday contained what Shekau claimed was footage of Boko Haram gunmen opening fire on the military in the town of Bama, using heavy weapons mounted on flat-bed trucks.

Shekau also referred to fighting in the towns Baga and Gamboru Ngala near the border with Cameroon.

The Boko Haram leader has been declared a global terrorist by the United States, which in March put a $7 million (5.3 million euros) bounty on his head.

“I’m challenging Obama,” Shekau said in the video. He voiced similar challenges to French President Francois Hollande and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

“They are no match for me,” he proclaimed.

Boko Haram gunmen are believed to have also launched the latest attack on Sunday against worshippers in Konduga, a Borno village, killing 44 people.

The Boko Haram men were also believed to have launched another attack in a nearby village killing 12 people.

The attacks at the weekend were believed to be in revenge over citizen vigilante groups formed to help the military battle Islamist extremist group Boko Haram, which has been waging an insurgency since 2009.

“Gunmen believed to be Boko Haram members entered the mosque and opened fire on Muslim worshippers, killing 44,” a senior government official said on condition of anonymity because he was not authorised to speak publicly of the attack in Konduga on Sunday.

“We believe the attack was not unconnected with the cooperation residents are giving to security operatives in identifying and arresting Boko Haram members in their midst.”

A local official said suspected Boko Haram members also raided Ngom village in the nearby Mafa district and shot dead 12 people on Saturday night.

“Boko Haram members came into Ngom village … and shot dead 12 people on Saturday night,” the official said, also on condition of anonymity. He said they were shot at their homes.

Some residents spoke of the attackers in Konduga arriving wearing army camouflage, a tactic they have used in the past to disguise themselves, though those details had not been officially confirmed.

The violence came as Nigeria’s military pursues an offensive in the country’s northeast aimed at ending the insurgency, with a state of emergency declared in the region in May.

In recent weeks, the military has encouraged the formation of vigilante groups to help authorities locate and arrest members of Boko Haram.

The vigilante groups have been credited with reducing the number of attacks, but some have warned that the situation could spiral out of control and lead to further violence.

PoliticsHow They Tried To Kill Me In Prison ––al-mustapha Reveals All by ajasbaba(op): 10:24am On Aug 06, 2013
Former Chief Security Officer to late Gen. Sani Abacha, who spent about 14 years in prison, Major Hamza Al-Mustapha, as revealed that he escaped several plots to kill him while he was in prison.

“Thank God, a reliable and trusted son of Tivland and my friend was officer in charge. He was directed to release me without documents in the wee hours of the night.
“As God would have it, he sought for guidance from our father and leader, Wantaregh Paul Unongo, who in turn directed him not to allow them take me away for subsequent killing."
Al-Mustapha said he would have been eliminated if not for the timely intervention of Wantaregh Paul Unongo and retired Controller of Prison, Iorbee Ihiagh.

Al-Mustapha, who was one of the powerful men in the country during the administration of late Gen Abacha, made the revelation at the weekend when he led his wife, few friends including Mohammed Abacha to pay homage to Second Republic Minister of Steel, Wataregh Paul Unongo, in his home in Jato Akaa.

He said: “On the 29th of March, 2004, some people planned to kill me. I was to be forced out of the prison and taken to an unknown destination where they were to take my life.

“God saved my life on that day. Let me say, from the day the journey started, the day my father, the late General Sani Abacha, died to the 12th of of July this year when I was released, we have had so many attempts to take our lives but God Almighty preserved us.

“Alhaji Mohammed Sani Abacha and I initially were framed through scripted stories released to the media and we were arrested. Thank God that subsequently justice was served having passed through series of travails and torture.

“But today it is just normal that we should come home to Tivland before my father Wantaregh Paul Unongo and in the presence of CP Ihiagh, who was prematurely retired because he refused to play games with my life. God Almighty has decided that I will still see today.”
PoliticsTRAGEDY: Bad Guys Beat Police Officer To Death In Lagos by ajasbaba(op): 9:50am On Aug 06, 2013
Lagos State Police Command has commenced investigations into the killing of a police corporal Ado Ayuba, who was lynched by some hoodlums in Suru Alaba area of the state.

“On the day of the incident, Ayuba and another policeman were dispersing the traders when things went wrong.
“We were told that the traders overpowered the policemen and in an attempt to protect himself and his colleague, Ayuba opened fire into the crowd and killed a trader (Mohammed). Ayuba’s colleague immediately fled, leaving him alone with the hoodlums."
According to police, the victim was beaten to death by an irate mob for allegedly killing a trader, Mustapha Mohammed, on July 30, 2013.

Punch learnt that Ayuba and another policeman were deployed to the scene to chase away traders who had illegally taken over a portion of the Lagos-Badagry Expressway.

It was learnt that trading activities by the traders usually caused gridlock in the area. It was also learnt that some residents and motorists had complained to relevant authorities about the inconveniences caused by the traders. A construction company working on the road had also made appeal to the government to check the traders.

A senior policeman, who spoke to Punch on condition of anonymity, said:

“Ayuba and the policeman were posted to the area to chase away traders who had taken over that portion of the road. The road is under construction by Chinese Construction Engineering Company and the company had complained that its makeshift construction site was being hijacked by traders.

"The hoodlums seized Ayuba’s gun from him [after he allegedly shot one of the traders], picked up stones and sticks and beat him up without mercy.

“Some soldiers arrived at the scene and attempted to rescue the policeman. But the soldiers were greatly outnumbered by the uncontrollable mob, which overpowered them and chased them away.”

Our correspondent learnt that by the time the police back-up arrived and managed to disperse the mob, Ayuba was unconscious from the beatings he had received.

The policemen rushed Ayuba and Mustapha to the hospital where they were confirmed dead.

RomanceREAD Ali Nuhu's Confession >>> I Would Have Proposed To Omotola by ajasbaba(op): 9:02am On Aug 06, 2013
READ Ali Nuhu's Confession >>> I Would Have Proposed To Omotola

Ali Nuhu is one of the most popular actors in the Hausa movie industry. A producer and brand ambassador, he talks about his job, his 10-year-old marriage and other sundry issues...

How challenging is the job of producing Hausa movies?

Most times, challenges come up when you don’t do your homework the way it should be done. I don’t produce more than one or two movies a year and I do a lot of pre-production planning before going on set. That removes all the challenges.

It seems just a handful of producers are from the north

Yes. There are just a couple of us. The reason could be cultural barriers; people seem to be just contented with what they do and they don’t want to branch out into wider areas.

How did you break into the English movie sector?

When I first started appearing in the English movies, the challenge I had was the perception of my people. Most people misunderstood what I was trying to do. But with time, when the movies started coming out, they became acquainted with what I was trying to do.

At 39 you have already been married for 10 years, why did you have to marry so early?

I was fortunate to meet a wonderful lady when I was 29. I did not want to let the opportunity slip by; it would not have been easy to find another like her at any other time.

Which means as a Moslem, you are not contemplating polygamy?

I am not contemplating polygamy. I know that my religion permits it but then, you don’t just jump into it because you see others doing it, it has set conditions and none of the conditions affect me, so there is no reason for me to practise it.

Is your wife comfortable with some of the roles you play?

A couple of times she told me she was not very comfortable with some actresses that I was paired with and I had to turn down the job. The peace and comfort of my home is more important than any movie role.

In the soap ‘Wetin Dey’ you played Ibrahim, an AIDS carrier who deliberately infected his cousin with the virus, how were you able to relate with the character?

I had to go through counselling before I could take on that role but after the programme, I stopped being afraid of AIDS victims. I now sympathise with them and I understand their situation.

You spent almost two years on that project, was the price worth it?

It was worth it.

How much were you paid?

In movies we don’t discuss our fees.

You were quoted as saying Omotola is your most favourite colleague, if circumstances were different, would you have married her?

I was pretty young when I first saw Omotola in ‘Thorns of Roses’ and liked her performance. After that, when I saw her in ‘Mortal Inheritance,’ I fell in love with her as a person because she gave a perfect interpretation to the character. Of course, if we were both single, I would have proposed to her.

What determines the way you dress?

I don’t have a particular mood or pattern of dressing but I have designers that make clothes for me. One is based in Lagos and he provides clothes for me when I am in the South. The one based in the North also styles me when I am in the North.

What was your childhood like?
I grew up in Kano—in no man’s land. It is a society that consists of people from the South and North. We have a lot of Yoruba, Igbos, the Igalas, Idomas etc. I am sure this is responsible for my perception and the fact that I feel very free in whatever part of Nigeria I find myself. When I go to Asaba, I eat pounded yam and when I come to Lagos, I eat amala and ewedu.

By next year you would be 40, what are going to do before then?

There is the saying that you may make plans but at the end of the day, it is God who determines the outcome and the course that your life is supposed to follow. I am leaving everything in His hands for the moment.
RomanceKeeping Our Ladies Légs Closed Until Their Wedding Night by ajasbaba(op): 8:56am On Aug 06, 2013
We don’t just accept that a girl is a vírgin until certain tests are carried out on those that come to our NGO. The examination is a safe one that does not affect them psychologically or physically. After that, we enlighten and continue to nurture them.

“We also give certificate to them on their wedding days."

A non-governmental organisation, The Vírgins, has said it is focused on preserving vírgins until their wedding night. The founder, Adunni Adediran, said she was convinced that the objective could be achieved, saying she sold her house and émpied the N5m in her bank account to help girls, who wanted to stay as vírgins before marriage.

Adediran told Punch that she made the sacrifice because of experiences she had during her teenage years.

She said, “I am doing this because of the experience I went through as a teenager. I did not regret spending so much. I believe that every girl child deserve to preserve her vírginity until when she chooses to get married.

“The talk of girl-child marriage should not be something we should be talking about in this country. The government ought to enlighten the parents to care for their female children and encourage them to be vírgins before marriage. If the parents are well enlightened, there is no way they can give their daughter out when she is not mature.”

The 68-year-old mother said, “It is worrisome that a large number of people and organisations, including the government, do not show clear support to the vírgins. This idea can eradicate many vices in the country.”

She said the organisation is struggling to survive because of lack of support, adding that more efforts would still be made to make sure that government, corporate bodies and individuals support the initiative.

woman accused a Colorado prison guard of raping her minutes after giving birth in a hospital, according to press reports in Colorado.

The 34-year-old had been in and out of jail and gave birth at Sky Ridge Medical Center.

The prison guard, Michael Arnold, under the supervision of the Arapahoe County Sheriff, was assigned to guard the woman. According to court documents, only 15 minutes after the woman gave birth to her child and while the child was still in her hospital bed, Arnold violated her.

Crime21 Yr Old Boy Who Sleeps With Mad Women Paraded In Court.. Granted Bail by ajasbaba(op): 9:58am On Aug 02, 2013
A 21-year old man, Lateef Sulaiman has been arraigned for allegedly rȃping a mentally retarded woman at the Lagos State Rehabilitation and Training Centre, Majidun, Ikorodu, Lagos.

He was said to have scaled a 14-foot fence into the female dormitory and paid N200 to have séx with the mentally retarded woman at the state rehabilitation centre.

Although, parents of the accused claimed he was under the influence of hard drugs, they said he left home at Gbagada to Majidun, even as Lateef confirmed he scaled the fence of the female dormitory five times before he was arrested. He said he knew where the female dormitory is located and was there earlier to seek employment.

The alleged culprit was arraigned on four-count charge at the Special Offences Court sitting at Alausa in Ikeja. The charges read: “That you, Lateef Sulaiman on June 7, 2013 at the rehabilitation centre for mentally infirm, Owutu in Ikorodu conducted yourself in a manner likely to breach public peace when you climbed a 14-foot fence, entered and slept with one of the inmate and committed an offence contrary to section 160 (1) (d) of the criminal law 2011 and punishable under section 166 (2) of the same law.”

He was accused of attempting to run away having been apprehended and committed an offence which is punishable under the criminal law of Lagos State. In the third count, Sulaiman was charged for scaling a 14-foot fence into the rehabilitation centre, an act considered disorderly and thus committed an offence punishable under the criminal law of Lagos State.

He was accused of unlawfully obstructing Olasukanmi Hassan, official and principal of the rehabilitation centre and committed an offence punishable under the Environmental Sanitation law 2013.

Although he was granted bail in the sum of N50, 000 with two sureties who must be civil servants and present evidence of tax payment for five years, but he could not meet the bail terms. Hence, he was remanded at the Badagry Prison.

Commenting on the development, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Youth and Social Development, Dr. Dolapo Badru lamented what he called ‘satanic’ rituals prevailing in the society, saying nothing could have propelled a man of that age to commit a heinous act.

He said: “It is this same satanic ritual that makes an herbalist to tell a man to bring the private part of someone in order to get rich,” .

“This act is simply part of the activities of rituals and a way to make quick money”, he added.
