What do you think will happen? When Aregberascal has ordered SARS(police unit), that suppose to be running after armed robbers, to be scaling ladies to naked over percieved indecent dressing even in public. I happened to be in Ilesa about a week ago before return to my base in Owerri, and I was told of how one lady was stripped of her clothes and the Okada man that carried her was being beaten by SARS for him to be sucking the lady breasts even in public(Ereja roundabout). |

What most Nigerians culturally do by using corporal punishment to correct their children when they do wrong and go scot free has become the albatross for two Nigerian couples resident in the United Kingdom. For beating their six children with brooms, hoovers and wires and even giving their baby a morphine overdose after childbirth, the Nigerian couple have been jailed for seven years each in London, with the UK press calling them all sorts of names. But the Nigerian married couple denied the allegations, claiming the children were victims of a racist witch-hunt. They were, however, found guilty of cruelty to a person under 16. The parents convicted of a decade long campaign of abuse against their six children were jailed for seven years each yesterday. The Nigerian couple, which the paper said claimed their kids were possessed by evil spirits, were found guilty after Coronation Street star Michelle Collins gave evidence against them. The parents argued that the children had been ‘brainwashed’ into making the allegations by the police, the London Borough of Haringey and Miss Collins who they said ‘wanted to steal’ them, UK’s Green Crown Court heard. Jurors rejected the parents conspiracy theories. When they are released, they face deportation back to Nigeria – despite pleas from their legal team that they have been ‘punished enough’ by having their children taken into care. As they left the court, the paper said the couple wailed: ‘We are innocent, this is a miscarriage of justice.’ The couple were accused of beating their children with brooms, hoovers and wires and even giving their baby a morphine overdose just days after her first birthday. A report published in UK’s Daily Mail said five of the children were rescued after their eldest daughter threw a heart-wrenching SOS note out of a window. The report said it was not until their one-year-old baby was given a morphine overdose over a year later that police reopened the case which led to their prosecution. The paper said the plight of the children was so bad that Miss Collins, who met them at a church lunch, took them to the cinema ‘because she felt sorry for them’. The Miss Collins gave evidence as a prosecution witness during the trial of the parents, both 40, who could not be named to protect their six children. Sentencing them to seven years behind bars each, Judge James Patrick described it as ‘shocking mistreatment’ that they had tried to cover up with a ‘web of deception’. Judge Patrick said: “No-one who sat through this trial could help but be moved by the fact that these intelligent, charming, fun, lovable children continue to love you despite what you put them through. “You alleged a conspiracy involving a well-known actress, who had done nothing but show your family generosity and kindness, a member of a housing charity, social workers and foster carers. “Those who had taken the trouble to support you were repeatedly accused of dishonesty, lying, and conspiracy to rob you of your children when the reality was that both of you were lying – in fact they ware simply seeking to give your children stability.” But the parents claimed they were victims of a conspiracy – and even alleged Miss Collins was involved in a witch hunt against them and wanted to ‘steal’ their children. One of the youngsters, a baby at the time, had been allowed to stay in the home by Haringey council, who were involved in other case called the Baby P and Victoria Climbie cases, despite the fact the five other children had to be rescued. The abuse reportedly came to the attention of police in April 2010 when their nine-year-old wrote an SOS note and threw it out of her bedroom window. The heart-breaking plea read: ‘My mum is the worst mum ever because she can’t cope with five of us, her broken hand and being pregnant. She always leaves me out so I always starve and I am forced to work. ‘If I don’t get enough house work done, I am beaten without mercy with the wooden end of a broom. I have scars all over me to prove it. I can’t stay here. I would like a new mum.’ It was found by a neighbour who called the police, and when officers attended the address they found the children living in messy conditions with ‘dirty’ and ‘dishevelled’ clothing. Revealing scars the eldest said her mother had hit her with a cable, a broom, and a hoover and her father had dangled her by her feet down the stairwell of the house, tied her hands behind her back and her legs together ‘to get the devilish spirits out’, prosecutor Emma Smith said. Her sister, who was seven at the time, had a stick shaped bruise of her thigh and after a few months in care, she drew a series of pictures showing her dad beating her and her being left home alone and including a speech bubble saying ‘I’m hungry.’ The children were left home alone for hours, sometimes days on end, with the elder kids forced to look after the others. They had even been forced to lie to a charity and social services that they were living alone with their mother in one room and had no idea who their dad was so they could scam benefits. Even during the trial the eldest feared she had torn her family apart with her ‘devastating cry from the heart in the form of a letter which she threw from the window’, the judge noted. There was an investigation but no further action, and the five children remained in care until the parents once again came to police attention on 28 June last year, when they gave their baby an overdose. ‘But for the events of June 28 you would have gotten away with your crimes because of a merciful decision not to prosecute you’, Judge Patrick noted. The couple’s sixth child, a baby girl, the report said, was also initially taken into care but then returned to her parents. They took her to St Thomas’s Hospital just days after her first birthday last year. The paper went on to say that without treatment, the baby could have died but doctors managed to save the youngster, who it is believed was given morphine orally that morning. www.vanguardngr.com/2012/08/nigerian-couple-who-beat-their-kids-jailed-14yrs-in-london/ |

KABUL (AFP) – A bomb strapped to a donkey by Taliban insurgents killed an Afghan district police chief and wounded three others, an official said Tuesday. The explosive-laden donkey was tied to a bridge near the gate of the local government headquarters in Charsada, in impoverished central Ghor province, before police chief Gul Ahmad arrived at work on Monday, the official said. “When the district police chief’s vehicle was passing, the bomb was exploded by remote control, killing the police chief on the spot,” provincial spokesman Abdulhai Khatibi told AFP. Three other policemen were injured, he said, blaming the attack on Taliban militants. Although donkey bombs are rare in Afghanistan, they are occasionally used by insurgents as a way of getting close to targets. In a similar incident last November, a bomb strapped to a donkey blew up in northern Afghanistan, killing two people, including a policeman, and injuring 16 others. Afghan government forces are fighting a bloody war against a decade-long, Taliban-led insurgency with the help of around 130,000 international troops stationed in Afghanistan. www.vanguardngr.com/2012/08/donkey-bomb-kills-afghan-police-chief/ We need to be watchful because if security operatives refuse to stop these ugly threads, very soon our security challenges may degenerate into this.Imagine Boko Haram now using donkeys and horses as their suicide bombers. |
A policeman, Solomon Awodogan, on Wednesday allegedly shot indiscriminately at the Iponri office of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority to protest the towing of his vehicle by the agency’s officials. PUNCH Metro learnt that LASTMA officials had towed the vehicle after it was parked on the Bus Rapid Transit lane. The General Manager, LASTMA, Mr. Babatunde Edu, said after the shooting, the policeman got itno his vehicle and sped off. Edu said, “The policeman reportedly stormed the Iponri office of LASTMA, shot sporadically and forcibly ran away with his apprehended vehicle. The red Mercedes Benz with number plate JV 23KJA was apprehended at Oyingbo for parking on the BRT dedicated lane, thereby violating the BRT traffic law. “The owner of the vehicle deliberately parked on the dedicated lane without recourse for the established law as it became an impediment for BRT buses to move on the lane. This led to the towing of the vehicle. The Mercedes Benz was booked in accordance with Lagos State Traffic Management Regulation law. “The suspect, who later traced the vehicle to the Iponri office of the agency, wore a cream top on his police trousers and started shooting into the air indiscriminately to scare away the officers and the security men on duty and succeeded in taking away the vehicle from the yard.” Edu expressed disappointment that a law enforcement agent could break the law with impunity, adding that such acts of indiscipline could lead to the breakdown of law and order. Edu said the policeman, whose address was traced to 10, Abolade Street, Mushin through the aid of the auto inspector computer software, would be sanctioned accordingly so as to serve as a deterrent to others. When contacted, the spokesperson for the State Police Command, Ngozi Braide, said she was unaware of the incident but promised to find out. www.punchng.com/metro/policeman-protests-towing-of-car-shoots-at-lastma-office/ |
The Special Fraud Unit of the Nigeria Police has arrested two Islamic clerics, Fatai Bamidele and Lateef Ahmed, for allegedly obtaining N30m from Lawal Sulaiman, a Lagos-based businessman, under false pretence. Police authorities said the suspects obtained the money from Sulaiman with a promise to perform ritual to make him wealthy and invincible. Sulaiman said he was hypnotised and held in captivity for three months by Ahmed in Kwara State. He denied approaching the clerics for money ritual, saying he only sought protection from evil forces. He said, “I supply fireworks and Bamidele’s shop is very close to mine. I’ve known him for years and I trusted him to the extent that I discuss my personal problems with him. “One day, he told me that he had a bad dream about me and that I would need special prayers. He said I would need to buy a ram and 40 Qurans for 40 Imams who would pray over the matter. I paid N125, 000 into his bank account to facilitate it. “After the prayers, he said a superior Imam in Kwara State needed me to come down to Ilorin to eat the heart of the ram. Initially, I was reluctant but he told me it was a matter of life and death. So, I went.” The 31-year-old victim said when he arrived Ilorin, he met Ahmed who gave him the heart of the ram to eat. He said after eating it, Ahmed showed him some charms and objects and told him to keep what transpired between them secret. Sulaiman said, “After I ate the ram’s heart, Ahmed showed me the charms and other objects. I lost my senses “I came back to Lagos and on several occasions, I gave them different sums of money. Sometimes, I would pay cash, some other times, I would pay into their accounts.” Sulaiman said when he became broke, he complained to Bamidele about his finances but he advised him to return to Ilorin and talk to Ahmed. He said the major chunk of the money he gave to the suspects were deposits made by his customers Sulaiman said, “On getting to Ahmed’s place, I remained there for three months. He kept on controlling me and I wasn’t myself. Sometimes, he would put my phone on private number and tell me to call my relatives and tell them not to look for me as I was abroad. “He continued to extort money from me until one day when he told me to go back to Lagos to bring more money. When I returned to Lagos, I became myself. I called the two suspects, recorded our conversations and then reported to the police.” The suspects however said they collected N10m from Sulaiman and not N30m. Ahmed, 45, said, “Sulaiman told me he wanted to be rich and wanted his creditors to forget his debts. “I informed him that there are two types of money rituals. There’s the one that a ghost will bring money at once and there’s another one that he will be getting the money daily. Sulaiman said he wanted the latter and gave me N10m as a gift. “I did not abduct him. He was hiding because he said he owed people. The ritual takes a year to perform and it would have ended in October if not for my arrest.” Bamidele, who accused Sulaiman of greed, said his share of the money was N2.5m. “After I did the first set of prayers for him, he said he wanted to become very rich. That was when I referred him to Ahmed. Nobody defrauded him. It was all a gift,” he said. The Commissioner of Police for the command, Mr. Ayotunde Ogunsakin, who confirmed the incident, said the suspects used the money to buy expensive cars and renovate Ahmed’s building in Ilorin. He said, “During investigations, it was discovered that out of the N10m, Ahmed gave Bamidele N2.5m while he kept N7.5m. “Bamidele bought a Nissan Infinity Sports Utility at N1m,. They will soon be charged to court.” www.punchng.com/metro/money-ritual-islamic-clerics-extort-n30m-from-businessman/ |

maclatunji: No wonder, Nigeria is where it is today with people like you. In other countries , if street lights fail at night, it is treated as an emergency. Here you are trying to justify failure of runway lights! We need a firm leader to decisively deal with the decay in this country. |
Hardly we can development in this nation if we do not drop the idea of criticising blindly. What surprised me most is the way people are now thinking with their anus these days. According to that report,we were told that they were refurbishing the light system so why all these crying by some people? |
It is indeed a black Sunday for country called Nigeria.God Almight will deliever us.May the gentle souls of the departed rest in perfect peace. |
