Foreign Affairs / Re: Russian Convoy To Kyiv Ambushed By Ukrainian Forces by ajsans: 8:22pm On Mar 11, 2022 |
You are well-read sir. I always learn alot from your comment Focusmind: I saw the ambush coming. The western forces are jamming Russia's communications and satellite systems, making it impossible for them to detect the ambush. The Russian convoys have been holed up for days along the inward Kiev express road because of logistics and communication issues. With satellite and efficient radar system, you could be able to detect an enemy ambush party ahead and send reconnaissance aircraft to gather information and clear the paths. Russia did all that but the NATO communication systems, backed by the Japanese is helping to relay wrong signals to the Russian signal command, thus making them to take wrong decisions.
You can not help but acknowledge the importance of communication and satellite systems in modern warfare. This is why we are still far behind and backwards in Nigeria, unable to detect Boko Haram movements throw swaths of plain and low grass lands in the Northern paths of Nigeria, which should be easier for a radar and satellite system to pick.
Turkey used an efficient communication, satellite and radar systems to support Azerbaijan in their recent war against Armenia, where they recorded decisive victory, bringing down their fighter jets and jamming the missile systems to the extent that one Armenia fighter jets released barrage of bombs on its own infantry ground troops , thinking that they were Azerbaijan forces.

Once the dividend yield is less than 40% of the coupon from a 30 year bond na to sell.
At N105 Lafarge was selling at a dividend yield of 2%.
FBN at a dividend yield of 7%, which was not bad but whenever a business cuts dividends it is a testimony of bigger problem with the business. FBN cut dividend from N1.10 to 60k and the to 10k.
When a business stops paying dividend it is also a red flag, this is what affected Oando and Skye Bank.
UACN at a dividend yield of 2.3%.
Nahco was at a dividend yield of 7%, but when earnings are static or reduce and dividends don't grow, the stock will just be their
United Capital was at a dividend yield of 10%, dividends grew by about 200% in the last 8 years it is normal for the stock price to rise.
APR was at a dividend yield of 10.5%, dividends grew by over 150% in the last 8 years it is normal for the stock price to rise on the long run
Zenith was at a dividend yield of 8.5%, paid a total dividend of about N20. Very slugger stock that is not good for jijo
At this time the average coupon on a 30 year bond was 14% The bolded has been added to my strategy. Thank You. 1 Like |

What works for you does not have to work for me, there are various routes to market. The most important thing is to be financially independent that we can afford to live a comfortably from the residual income from our investments.
My late mentor had over 100 stocks in his portfolio over 40 houses in Lagos when he died in 2007.
This was a man who started investing in the capital market in 1962 at age of 20 and resigned in 1979 at the age of 37 to live exclusively from the returns on his Investments.
When I want to speculate, I do it solely on a stock taking a leverage position. That is my strategy and has always worked for me, I won't advise you use my strategy and I won't use your either because you are different from me as I am different from you. Am sure you're referring to the Late Chief Akintunde Asalu. The Asiwaju of Ejigboland in Osun State. Popularly known as the Warren buffet of Nigeria. 3 Likes |

WHT ~ Withholding Tax
You can use lots of method to get the price you pay for your stock. However, the taste of the pudding is in the eating. You have to buy at or below the instrinsic value. This gives you a better margin of safety.
Now this is where your mind starts to play games on you. When you buy and prices starts to fall, you start to ask yourself if the price you bought was the right price. Aside all these theoretical computations, that is why you need to place your satisfaction on something that you derive value from. And that to me is dividends especially during a downtrend.
So this means that after getting your price to buy, you go further to ask: Presuming they pay the last dividend again, what Dividend Yield (after WHT) will be ok for me? 8%, 10%, 15% etc.
If it is >10%, I will advise you take up the stocks even as price falls. Because falling price will give you improved DY compared to the price you bought earlier. This is like dual buffer. Buying at or below intrinsic price and still waiting for dividends.
So long as price remains low, you could be adding units quietly for that good stock. You can buy large volume at a cheaper price in a downtrend and not an uptrend. So the bear is the period of planting. As in plant coke bottle during bear!!
Well understood sir. Thank you. 1 Like |

If you align yourself towards cashflow through dividends payment, it means that you will have to research into companies that have been paying dividends for many years uninterrupted.
Then the next question is: What percentage am I looking at after taking WHT? If you are ok with X%, then do your DY calculation discounting WHT and then get Price (P) from it. But the assumption is that the previous dividend is what will be paid again.
It is very simple approach that you don't even need to kill yourself.
Your P/BV, PE, ROI, DE, Net of net valuations, Profit Margins etc are just mere selection criteria which will narrow down what to buy. But the actual move is the price you pay for it which can change based on lots of factors especially human behaviour (fear/greed).
While lying low in a stock, if the price moves to the point that your gains on the stock = Y number of years dividends, then you sell off. Note that X and Y are dependent on what you think is great for you.
Much appreciation for the helpful information. I have a few questions to ask if you don't mind please; What do you mean by the full abbreviation in the bold WHT? also, in the second bold you did mention that the price one pays for a stock plays an important factor, which means you always ensure that a stock should be priced below it's intrinsic value/ fair value before you buy, does it mean you always determine what a stock fair value is using various method like the popular Discounted cash flow valuation method which the likes of currentprice and Onegentleguy uses. |
