Foreign AffairsFidel Castro In His Own Words by akanke79(op): 12:55pm On Dec 06, 2013
Fidel Castro in his prime, providing an excellent example of his wit, idealism, analysis. This is offered particularly to those under the spell of U.S. propaganda's demonization of Castro, to see and hear Fidel for themselves.

Fidel explains the US has been making cruel economic war against Cuba, not only refusing to trade with it, but using its great power to prevent most other countries from trading with Cuba, and resorting to tactics of assassination and persistent subversion. Cuba was forced to turn to the USSR to trade its sugar for necessities and when the USSR fell, Cuba had to endure the loss of 70% of its trade. But the Cuban people endured this painful "Special Period" because of their deep love of their revolution and revolutionary government.

Fidel talks of the Cuban government's deep commitment to principle, like how during their revolution they never resorted to torture or mistreatment of prisoners to gain information. This is all the more ironic with the US eventually choosing Guantanamo to carry on torture against Muslims.

Fidel here addresses an appreciative World Solidarity with Cuba Conference in Havana, November 1994. His 2 hour speech is seamlessly edited to about an hour by the late Dale Trescott as directed by Joe Friendly from video shot by Joe Friendly and by TVMarti.

Foreign AffairsUN Passes Resolution On CAR Military Action by akanke79(op): 12:50pm On Dec 06, 2013
http://www.aljazeera.com/news/africa/2013/12/un-okays-increased-military-action-car-201312515535052625.html

UN passes resolution on CAR military action
Security Council passes French-sponsored resolution amid reports that 100 people have been killed in renewed violence.

The UN Security Council has authorised increased military action by France and African troops in the Central African Republican to try to end unrest.

The council's unanimous approval of a French-sponsored resolution on Thursday came amid reports that at least 100 people have died in Bangui, the capital of the former French colony, in the heaviest clashes in the city in months, according to Al Jazeera's correspondent.

The Central African Republic has been rocked by Muslim-Christian violence after an alliance of Muslim rebels, originally from neighbouring Chad and Sudan, ousted former president Francois Bozize in March.

The predominantly Christian country has since suffered a wave of killings, torture and rapes that human rights groups blame on rival armed groups. The fighting is mainly between Seleka, who are predominantly Muslim, and the Christian Balaka.

Thursday's resolution authorises the deployment of an African Union-led force for a year with a mandate to use "appropriate measures" to protect civilians and restore security and public order.

The AU force, known as the International Support Mission in the Central African Republic (MISCA), is expected to increase its troop strength from about 2,500 to 3,500.

In Paris, President Francois Hollande told reporters after the resolution was passed: "I have decided to act immediately, in other words, this evening."

He added that the number of French troops present in the poor landlocked nation, currently 600, would be doubled as early as this evening thanks to reinforcements from neighbouring states.

The resolution also authorises French forces, for a temporary period, "to take all necessary measures" to support MISCA.

Al Jazeera's James Bays, reporting from the UN headquarters in New York, said: "It's not clear when more troops will arrive. Some of the African peacekeepers are already there; a small number of French troops are already there but many more need to make up that number of 1,200."

France promised last week to send 1,000 troops to the Central African Republic following a warning from French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius that the CAR "is on the verge of genocide".

'Mass atrocities'

The Defence Ministry has said about 600 troops are in the country.

France's UN ambassador, Gerard Araud, told the council after the vote that "people have been terrorized by militia carrying out atrocities" and warned that the country "is likely to fall apart in mass atrocities".

"History demands us to avoid the worst," he said, welcoming the robust mandate for the African and French troops.

In Thursday's violence, the French charity Doctors Without Borders said 65 people were also wounded.

Doctors Without Borders said it had sent a medical and surgical team to a hospital in Bangui after heavy weapons fire and automatic gunfire in the city.

Blasts of heavy and small arms gunfire could be heard in Bangui, Al Jazeera's Nazanine Moshiri said, reporting from the capital.

She said the city had been "practically deserted" and that a "number of Christians had taken refuge in a church".

"We are hearing reports of dead bodies in mosques. This conflict has taken a sectarian twist in the past few months," she said, referring to clashes between the Balaka (anti-machetes) fighters who are Christians and Muslim fighters who belong to the Seleka rebel army.

Thursday's fighting was reported to be the worst since Seleka, which claims control of Bangui, took over the city in March.

Michel Djotodia, the leader of Seleka and de facto president of CAR, has struggled to control his loose band of fighters since the rebel alliance Seleka broke up.

The CAR has remained poor and unstable despite being rich in gold, diamonds and uranium. Decades of spillover from conflicts in its larger neighbours have kept it mired in crisis.

Foreign AffairsFailed Asylum Seeker Kills Three On Bus in Norway by akanke79(op): 4:58pm On Nov 11, 2013
The man accused of stabbing to death a woman and two men on an express bus in western Norway was an asylum seeker from South Sudan who was due to be deported from Norway on Tuesday, VG has reported.

The 31-year-old, who was living at an asylum reception centre in Årdal, was due to be deported to Spain on Tuesday, after having his application rejected in June.

"This person had applied for asylum, and come to Norway in April," a spokesman for Norway's immigration directorate said. "He was rejected in June, and was supposed to be returned to Spain under the so-called Dublin Regulation."

The man is accused of killing the bus driver, Arve Haug Bagn (55) and Margaret Molland Sanden, a 19-year-old biotechnology student at the Oslo and Akerhus University College of Applied Sciences. The third victim, a Swedish man in his 50s, has not been named.

Margaret Molland Sanden (19) was killed in the attack - Facebook

Police believe that the three victims were the only people on the bus when the man attacked.

Bente Dalåker, who runs the reception centre where the killer was housed, said that staff had not noticed anything unusual about him in the time since he arrived on 26 August.

"We did not notice that he could do such a thing. No one has reported that he could be dangerous," Dalåker said.

The killer was disarmed without a fight once the authorities arrived, and has been flown by helicopter to hospital in Bergen, where he is being treated for knife injuries.

The emergency services first received reports of a traffic accident involving a bus at 5.30pm. Once the fire services arrived, however, they realized that the situation was more serious.

"The bus was on the side of the road, so we stopped our car and ran over," one of those on the scene told TV2."It was impossible to open the doors."

"Then we saw a dark-skinned person inside the bus. At first, we thought he was trying to get out but then saw he was moving around with a knife, and we realized that the situation was quite different."

According to police, the man was held by firemen until 6.45pm when the first police arrived, one hour and 15 minutes after they were first notified.

"The person came out voluntarily from the bus and was arrested by the firefighters. He had already thrown down the knife," Magne Knutsen of the Årdal police told VG.

The bus, the Valdres Express, travels the four-hour journey from the mountainous region of Valdres to Oslo , nd was hijacked between the towns of Årdal and Tyin in Sogn og Fjordane county.
The attack marks the second time the Valdres Express has been hijacked. In 2003, it was hijacked by a mentally disturbed 26-year-old Ethiopian man who stabbed the driver to death.

A 2012 report from the Pew Research Centre estimated that 60.5 percent of South Sudan’s population was Christian, 32.9 percent were followers of traditional African religion, and 6.2 percent were Muslim.

Foreign AffairsPastors Milking Millions From Ignorant Kenyans by akanke79(op): 1:17pm On Nov 09, 2013
The number of pastors enriching themselves by falsely using the word of God to con Kenyans is on an upward spiral. One famous televangelist is extorting money from unsuspecting Kenyans ignorant of the word of God and desperate for instant miracles. NTV's Enock Sikolia unearths how the pastor a self declared prophet is playing around with the number 7, the number for perfection in the Christian faith.

Prophet David Owuor pointed it out during his rally in Nakuru - corruption in churches. And now, the National Council of Churches has acknowledged that the number of pastors extorting money from Kenyans is alarmingly high. NTV's Enock Sikolia reports that the only medicine, to this infectious disease, is by Kenyans reading for themselves the word of God.

THE STORY in 2011
A gang of fraudsters have been convicted of targeting hundreds of British citizens in a £20m "boiler room" share con.

Mastermind George Abrue, 30, and his team of eight persuaded vulnerable victims to part with their savings in exchange for non-existent assets.

They used the money to fund lavish lifestyles in Spain and other places.

Abrue was jailed for five years, six others were also jailed and the final two were found guilty Wednesday.

The last two to be convicted - Abrue's wife Sarah Robson, 28, and his mother-in-law Jocelyn Cowper, 57 - were found guilty at Newcastle Crown Court of assisting the multi-million pound operation.

They will be sentenced in July.

The case can be now reported following their conviction.

Abrue used fraudulent brokers to pressurise people into buying shares in non-existent companies such as Bio Fuel Solutions (BFS) Corporation and New Power Technology.

The BFS Corporation was struck off and dissolved in November 2009 and had never traded.

Gang's location in Spain The gang used victims' money to fund luxury lifestyles in Spain
Professional websites and brochures were produced to convince people, many of whom were elderly and vulnerable, to part with their life savings.

The gang laundered their victims' money through Swedish and Italian bank accounts.

The money was used to throw parties for up to 300 people in top Barcelona hotels and buy a Ferrari, Bentley and Maserati which Abrue and his team garaged abroad.

The fraud became apparent in August 2009 when the National Fraud Intelligence Bureau (NFIB) were contacted by a stream of people claiming to have lost money after being cold-called.

Ray Turner, an 87-year-old Second World War RAF veteran, from Ware in Hertfordshire, said he was cheated out of more than £75,000 by the gang.

"I was sucked in first by their emails and then by their phone calls," he said.

"They got almost everything. They were ruthless."

'Callous coward'

Abrue was caught after a covert operation involving City of London detectives who sent him texts from his estranged wife's mobile phone.

Det Ch Insp Dave Clark, who led the swoop, described the gang's conviction as one of his proudest moments.

He said: "George Abrue was a bright and articulate man, but he was also an unscrupulous and callous coward.

"Some of those victims have been suicidal, and the psychological effect on them and their families has been tragic - all so Abrue and his friends could live the lifestyle of a premiership footballer spending astronomical amounts."

City of London Police praised the BBC for its "really crucial role" in exposing the people behind the scam.

BBC London traced Abrue, a Nigerian immigrant based in Newcastle, to a luxury flat in Malmo, Sweden.

Abrue's main partners, Scott Henderson and Anton Deach, received five-year and four-year prison sentences respectively.

Babatunde Aluko and Sam Hamed were jailed for three years and nine months each.

Dean Hamilton was sentenced to three years and Mark Brannan is serving 18 months, all for charges of conspiracy to defraud and money laundering.

All were jailed at Harrow Crown Court in May.

The known cost of the fraud is approximately £11m but the full cost is believed to be £20m as many of the victims have not come forward.

Madagascar mob kills Europeans over 'organ trafficking'BBC map Continue reading the main story

Two European men have been burnt to death in Madagascar by protesters who suspected they were trafficking human organs after a child went missing.

A local man had been arrested in connection with the disappearance on Wednesday on Nosy Be, a tourist island resort in Madagascar's north-west.

A crowd then rioted outside the police station believing him to have been paid to remove the child's organs.

The mob proceeded on "a manhunt" for the foreigners, police said.

"It resulted in the death of two foreigners," the deputy commander of the paramilitary police, Gen Guy Randriamaro Bobin, told the AFP news agency.

Officials initially said they were French nationals, but residents on Nosy Be say one of the men may have been Italian.

"Two foreigners died, we have confirmed that one of them was French," AFP quotes France's foreign affairs spokesman Philippe Lalliot as saying.

Gen Randriamaro Bobin said an eight-year-old boy's lifeless body was found on Thursday morning, without genitals and without a tongue, the agency reports.

Local media reported that the protesters had found human organs in a fridge in the building where the Europeans were staying.

The BBC's Tim Healy in the capital, Antananarivo, says Nosy Be is the jewel in the crown of Madagascar's tourist industry and has been used to encourage tourists to return to the Indian Ocean nation following several years of political unrest.

Text alerts

According to reports, at least one person was also killed in the violence that erupted outside the police station.Police fired shots in the air to disperse the protesters, who had been hurling stones.
The mob then burnt down houses around the station before going on to find the home of the two foreigners.

"They confessed under torture [by the mob] to organ trafficking," Gen Randriamaro Bobin told AFP.

Our correspondent says the incident may have political undertones as elections are scheduled to take place on 25 October and there are tensions nationwide.

Poor communities' fears of human organ trafficking have been exploited in the past by those wanting to stir up tensions or as a means of revenge for another issue, our reporter says.

Instances of mob justice are common in Madagascar, he adds.

The French embassy in Madagascar has sent out text alerts warning French nationals not to travel to Nosy Be and urging foreigners on the island resort to remain indoors and not go to the beach where it is reported the foreigners were burnt.

"The two Europeans were killed and burnt on Ambatoloaka beach," AFP quotes Honoya Tilahizandry, the commissioner of police in Andoany, Nosy Be's main town, as saying.

A regional government official on Nosy Be blamed for the paramilitary police's lax response to the case was reportedly kidnapped on Wednesday.

PoliticsAbout That silly "Muslims Killing All Christians At A Mall" Story by akanke79(op): 9:10pm On Sep 24, 2013
The mall is Jewish owned, and the swat team that showed up was from the Israeli Mossad.

I'd like to ask a question here

Since false flag is the order of the day, could having the Mossad show up to "correct" this situation be ANY MORE PERFECT? How did they get permission to operate abroad out in the wide open public of a foreign country anyway?

I have a little info here - Muslims don't hate Christians. Muslims believe Jesus will return again to rule them, NOT MOHAMMED. Muslims protected Christian churches in the holy land for hundreds of years, even if the churches sat abandoned by Christians for centuries. One good example is the Aboud Church, which sat empty for a very long time and was taken care of by Muslims, with the Muslims holding the keys for centuries until Christians returned to use it. NOT A JOKE. And you want to know how that church was finally destroyed?
Take a look

This is the Aboud Church, before the Israeli "defense" forces destroyed it for no reason.

https://www.jimstonefreelance.com/before.jpg

Before, a priest is gesturing "we mean no harm". Remember, this is a 1,800 year old Christian church. After the Israeli defense forces were done having fun, it lay in ruins.
https://www.jimstonefreelance.com/after.jpg
This event proves beyond a doubt that Israeli aggression in Palestine is not about getting rid of suicide

bombers. Shocking, but true.

The priest almost loses his balance walking among the ruins. Notice cross on one of the rocks? The kid in the background gives a pretty good perspective on the size of the destroyed chuch.

It is interesting that the supposed Muslim agressors in posession of the land around this church for the last 1,600 years did nothing to harm it, it was in fact destroyed by Israeli tanks and bulldozers in June of 2002. This type of Israeli agression is so common that it did not make news.

Now I'd like to make a comment, though I admit it is a guess. The BRITISH woman "convert to Islam" who was among these so called "muslim" assassins at the mall PROBABLY WORKED AT A KOSHER STORE ACROSS FROM B'nai BRIT (ish) synagogue prior to getting this gig at the mall. Certainly the Israelis are far more aggressive towards Christians than Muslims are.

HealthObesity Could Be Caused By Bacteria: French Study by akanke79(op): 3:00pm On Sep 24, 2013

Is obesity caused by something other than the common explanations of a bad diet and lack of excercise? According to a new study carried out in France the probelem could be linked to levels of bacteria in the gut.

Obesity and the medical problems it causes could be linked to a lack of good bacteria in the gut according to findings of a new study in France.

Many believe obesity is caused by nothing other than poor diet and lack of exercise but the findings of the latest French-Danish study by the National Institute of Agricultural Research (INRA), based in Paris point to a low count of a certain kind of "good" bacteria in the gut as another possible cause.

The study, carried out in both France and Denmark and published in scientific journal Nature, found a link between obesity and people with a low number of good bacteria present in their intestinal flora. Good bacteria are those which help digest food and fight against bad bacteria. People with a lower bacteria count were shown to be more susceptible to becoming obese.

“If you have less good bacteria, the risk of developing serious illnesses such as diabetes or cardiovascular problems is a lot higher” said Professor Dusko Erlich, the coordinator of the study.

Erlich added that the results were important because “we think that if we manage to replace these bacteria, it could help prevent excessive weight gain.” However, he admits that scientists first need to learn “how to cultivate the bacteria, which we are unable to do right now.”

Researchers studied 123 non–obese and 169 obese Danish people. They discovered that amongst the subjects studied, the people who had a greater presence of good bacteria in their intestines, had a greater resistance diseases like diabetes.

They also found that the obese people with less bacteria put on more weight than obese people with more intestinal bacteria.

Obesity is a major issue for Western countries, who are undertaking new studies to tackle the problem. In 2005 it was estimated that 500 million people were obese and this number looks set to rise to 700 million by 2015, reported French TV station Europe 1.

In a second study published in the same journal, researchers found that a diet rich in fibre and fruit and vegetables followed over a course of 12 weeks could significantly improve intestinal flora and increase the good bacteria in the gut, thus reducing some health complications linked to obesity.

This supports previous research showing that changes to diet can have direct effects on bacteria in the gut.

IslamHistoric Prayer Call Heard At Stockholm Mosque by akanke79(op): 10:15am On Sep 23, 2013

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B5-CgqlnQ5M

Worshippers at the Fittja mosque in southern Stockholm on Friday heard Sweden's first-ever call to prayer, which brought some congregation members to tears of joy.

Guluz Kayhan, 45, had tears in her eyes when the notes of Sweden's first-ever call to prayer ended and worshippers hurried up the steps of the mosque.

"I don't go to the mosque as often as before but I wanted to experience this," she told The Local as she wiped tears from her blue eyes. Flanked by her two daughters, Kayhan made her way inside, slipping off her shoes.

"I'm really proud of Sweden," said her daughters' friend Havva Göcmenoglu, 24. "I am proud of being part of a society that respects different religions."

Yet as the spring sun broke through the clouds after a bitterly dour morning, two men in a red Volvo 740 crept up to the curb and halted, just to spin their wheels so furiously the rubber shrieked as much as it burned. People making their way into the mosque turned their heads, but most seemed intent on ignoring the odd act.

Kashif Rashid, 28, from Lahore in Pakistan just left Italy to join his brother in Sweden.

"In Italy I didn't even have a mosque to go to," he said on his way to the mosque, which is nestled in a beech copse just by a lake lined with the hulls of hibernating boats.

"For two years I have not heard this," he beamed.

His enthusiasm was shared by others heading to pray. Abdi Muhammad, 27, originally from Somalia, travelled to Fittja from Rinkeby on the far other end of Stockholm

"Thank you to the government," he said.

Friday's prayer call came following a decision earlier this month by local police who ruled that it wouldn't violate local noise ordinances. The ruling allowed the prayer call for between three to five minutes on Fridays between midday and 1pm.

Back in September, local government officials had approved the move in principle, voting in favour of scrapping a 1994 prohibition on allowing prayer calls, which dated back from before the construction of the mosque.

The mosque was built in 2007 in the municipality's Fittja district and has over 1,500 members

Among veterans in the congregation, reactions were equally elated.

"The Swedes have pure hearts," said Fawzia Choudry, 46, who came to Sweden from Pakistan decades ago.

"We threw our hands in the air in delight when we heard the ruling, because at first nobody thought they'd give the permission."

Her daughter Toba, 21, used the Azan (call to prayer) app on her pink-encased iPhone in the meantime.

"People are so busy working this really is a good reminder," she said.

"This is so important for us Muslims and I think in general Sweden, alongside England, is much more tolerant than other European countries such as France."

Foreign AffairsUp To 200 More Church Closings Could Be On The Way in Denmark by akanke79(op): 1:54pm On Sep 17, 2013
After six churches were closed last week, the church minister leaves the option open for shutting even more

The culture minister, Marianne Jelved (Radikale), announced on Friday that six churches in Copenhagen would be closed, and now the church minister, Manu Sareen (Radikale), says that even more churches may be shut down.

"There are some parishes where the church only has 200 members," Sareen wrote in a press release. "We have to discuss closures to secure that the Church of Denmark spends its resources most effectively. No one is served by empty churches."

Sareen said he could not give an exact number on how many churches might be wholly or partially shut down, but that there were at least 200 – and perhaps more – that he would be assessing.

Smaller parishes most at risk
The minister said that he has not decided if all of the 200 churches should be closed completely, but that an assessment needs to be done.

"Whether the churches should be closed completely or be used in a new way depends on the individual church," said Sareen.

It is particularly expensive to operate churches in smaller parishes with less than 200 members of the Church of Denmark (folkekirken).

Copenhagen’s bishop named 14 churches for closure last spring. Six of those were shut down in Friday's decision, and two more will have their daily operations cease.

Clear guidelines missing
Sareen said that right now the ministry has no guidelines on how to close down churches and that the rules need to be clearer.

“We need to make clear rules about how a church is taken out of service in a way that benefits Folkekirken,” he said.

"We will also need to establish new churches in some areas. But the first step is that we get the rules straight on how to close down a church."

Friday's decision will lead to the closing of the following Copenhagen-area churches:

Samuels Kirke
Blågårds Kirke
Utterslev Kirke
Bavnehøj Kirke
Absalons Kirke
Gethsemane Kirke

Foreign AffairsSweden Offers Residency To All Syrian Refugees by akanke79(op): 8:08pm On Sep 13, 2013
Swedish migration authorities have ruled that all Syrian asylum seekers who have come to Sweden will be granted permanent residency in light of the worsening conflict in Syria. - See more at: http://www.thelocal.se/50030/20130903/#sthash.xhXGIq7q.dpuf

Sweden is the first country in the EU to offer permanent residency to refugees from Syria, news agency TT reported.

The decision covers all asylum seekers from Syria who have been granted temporary residency in Sweden for humanitarian protection. They will now receive permanent residence permits, the Swedish Migration Board (Migrationsverket) announced on Tuesday.

Previously, around half of Syrian asylum seekers had been granted permanent residency, with the remaining half receiving three-year residence permits.

The assessment is based on whether a person has an individual or general need for protection. As the situation in Syria has deteriorated and is now "extreme and marked by general violence" with no solution in sight, the agency has judged the poor security situation in Syria to be permanent.

The decision means that the roughly 8,000 Syrians who have temporary residency in Sweden will now be able to stay in the country permanently.

They will also have the right to bring their families to Sweden.

While Malek Laesker, vice-chair of the Syrian Arabian Cultural Association of Sweden (Syrisk arabiska kulturföreningen i Sverige), welcomed the decision, he also warned it could create problems.

"The fact that Sweden is the first country to open its arms is both positive and negative," he told the TT news agency, explaining that it may be a boon for the growing people-smuggling market.

He also expressed concerns that the move will add more fuel to the already inflamed debate about Sweden's immigration policies.

"We already have a crisis around that issue in Sweden. I hope that our politicians solve it in a nice way," he said.

In 2012 and 2013, a total of 14,700 Syrian asylum seekers came to Sweden. Together with Germany, Sweden is the EU country which has accepted the highest number of asylum seekers from the war-torn country.

In its statement, the Migration Board warned that asylum seekers who may be guilty of war crimes or crimes against humanity for their actions in Syria would lose their right to be classified as refugees or in need of protection. - See more at: http://www.thelocal.se/50030/20130903/#sthash.xhXGIq7q.dpuf
