Root cause of all these issues started with the imbecilic decision to strip Oshoala of the captainship after the Buhari Cup. The way and manner it was executed was not only unprofessional, but really dumb on the part of the NFF. And then you give it to a 40 yr old Onome Ebi who should have since been discarded from the team? Plain daft! As I have stated before, discard the team of the old guard and reinstate Oshoala ASAP as captain! The team has more young players than old, who look up to Oshoala because of her remarkable accomplishments in women's football globally. She is a huge inspiration to them. Yet, you want them to draw their inspiration from someone who is club-less and who should have been retired from the team? Not only that, someone who played bench warmer to much younger players during this concluded Revelations Cup in Mexico? The abject stupidity of the decision makers at the NFF knows no bounds. naptu2: |
The only one of them that has the remotest chance of making it to the World Cup is Debbie Abiodun. You can forget about the others. Afolabi ? You can't be serious ![]() codemaniacs: |
With all due respect, who cares? Wetin consign agbero with overload? I mean, how does their disarray negatively impact our beloved Super Falcons?? I begi!! For all I care, make the French team get worse and continue to be in disarray. It benefits other countries as they will progress at their expense. And while we are at it, ditto that for both the Spanish and Canadian teams. Deltamani: |
Please, don't bring that dullard Eguavoen into this conversation. Of what use is entertaining football and making every one 'happy', when the end result is a big fat failure? No county gets any medals for playing entertaining football. Worst performance in an AFCON in 40 years and even worse, missing out on qualifying for a world cup, which should have been a slam dunk? We were the only country of the 5 seeded teams not to make it to the World Cup. Rohr put him at the door step of performing at the AFCON and qualifying for the World Cup. But Eguavoen had to find a way to bungle both. That guy was beyond useless! lovewins: |
Don't think its just the midfield... She does that on the wings also - always taking the unnecessary extra few touches or dribbles, instead of making a simple pass. BascoVanVeli: |
You beat me to it, as I was about to use much harsher language responding to that random and thoughtless guy... isan: |
Always trying to do extra when it was totally unnecessary. One of the absolute worst players on the pitch today. Disappointed in her play. This was a very beatable Mexican team and they completely blew it. BascoVanVeli: |
Absolutely no excuse losing to this Mexican team. None! Extremely poor performance all around. If Randy does not win the next two games, then its open season on him remaining as coach. This was a very painful performance to watch. |
Poor clearance by Chiamaka leads to Mexican goal. Very poor play on her part. |

Actually, I am very okay with her missing this tournament, as she has nothing else to prove. Its also more important that she stays healthy for the WWC, even if that means she misses out on friendlies. One cannot also dismiss the level of unwarranted abuse and disrespect from some sections of the media and fans as a possible contributing factor for her possibly staying away. Its an opportunity for others invitees to step up and be seen. lovewins: |
I agree that the debate about who is better than who is rather premature and will not be drawn into it. What caught my attention was your emboldened comment below, which I will punt back to you... Of all the foreign born and raised female footballers who played age grade for either England or the US, name one of them who received a call up to the Senior WNT? The answer is zero. For the record: Toni Payne - United States U17, U20 & U23 Iffy Onumonu - United States U23 Ashley Plumptre - England U15, U17, U20, U23 - Compare this with Rinsola Babajide - England U19, U20 (FIFA WWC Bronze Medalist), U23, England Senior WNT invitee. And interestingly, pretty much those that played age grade WNT for US/England, who then switched to Nigeria, walked straight into the SF starting 11. mostob: |

Naija people sha! I mean, why is everything a threat? Who said she is 'benching' anyone? Is there anything wrong in having a VAST pool of talented, quality footballers to draw from? If you haven't figured it out yet - that is the thin line between being a champion and constantly falling short. We've got a lot of quality options - sure, until the key ones start going down with injuries then you realize how sparse you are and miss out on winning and making an impact. We all witnessed how injuries to Esther Okoronkwo and Oshoala pretty much torpedoed our winning a 10th WAFCON, YET, a player says they want to switch their allegiance to the Super Falcons and the response is 'go play for England instead' ? Really? Do you have any idea what it takes for some of these kids to make such a decision in their life? Yet you thumb your nose at her for summing up the courage to do so. And you really think these ladies don't read your comments and are influenced by such reactions? C'mon, man! When the likes of Roosa and Zogg pledged their allegiance to the SF, did they displace anyone? However, the Nigerian coach knows that at any point, that player can be tapped to don on the GWG jersey (as opposed to wishing that we had them in our squad) because they are in our pool of committed players. We Nigerians really need to stop being myopic and think more deeply. That is the ONLY thing holding us back! Deltamani: |

Perhaps, AFTER you man up and admit you posted a false narrative about Rofiat Imuran. Besides, your request here is quite irrelevant to my response to your false narrative. Lastly, you're more than capable of doing the necessary research to seek the information you desire. Deltamani: |
Nice attempt to shift the goalposts. ![]() You have once again failed to prove that your initial statement (i.e., the one I disputed and referred to as patently false), has any element of accuracy to it. Deltamani: |
I'll take this as your tacit acknowledgement that your comments about her, specifically "...Ramat (Rofiat) Imuran who hasn’t played a single competitive game since joining Stade de Reim in France and doesn’t even make match day team lists talk more of bench..." were patently false. Deltamani: |
Unfortunately, the resurgence of Leicester might be a little too late. Hopefully, they will avoid relegation. isan: |
Please do more research before making statements like this, as your comments are patently false. Dec 10, 2022 - Dijon vs Stade de Reims - Arkema D1 - Rofiat came in as a sub in that match. Feb 04, 2023 - Guingamp vs Stade de Reims - Arkema D1 - Rofiat was on the bench but did not play the match. In between, she seemed to have picked up a knock. Next Stade de Reims game is Feb 25, 2023 at home to Paris FC (after the FIFA break). How you could draw such an inference from what I stated is rather baffling. I have no clue on what Randy's remunerations are, but I am pretty sure it's not as much as what this Algerian fellow and his colleague at Morocco are being paid. This is likely because of the form of his contract and what the NFF could afford to pay, based on their anemic budget. Deltamani: |
Not sure what you mean by 'quality coaching'. Dennerby's team selection for the WC was predictable, as the team could be said to pick itself and was pretty much a carry over from Okon's team, for the most part. Randy's team will be largely a younger, revamped one, in comparison to those managed by Dennerby/Okon. The circumstances under which Dennerby won WAFCON were vastly different from what Randy faced, in terms of quality of opposition (the growth and advent of new super powers in Africa), state of the team (SF being infused with a ton of new and much younger players lacking WAFCON experience) and overall quality of play (faster, technical depth of players). If Dennerby competed in this tournament, I very much doubt if he would have made it past the semi's into the finals. Deltamani: |
Unfortunately, some Nigerians live in la-la land. Not only can you not pay the current coaches you have currently contracted on time (both local and foreign), yet you want a 'quality coach'? The country is in economic shambles yet you all keep yelling for a 'world class' coach? You all need to wake up and face reality! You show pics of this Algerian coach watching domestic league games. For one, the Algerian local league for women is much more organized than the Nigerian one. Secondly, how many players in their National team ply their trade overseas compared to those playing in the domestic leagues? Considering that the bulk of the Nigerian WNT comprises of players overseas, does it make any sense for Randy to attend domestic matches, when you consider the rather poor quality of play and the fact that the real good ones are showcased in international competitions (U17, U20 and WAFU B) and the very best of them have already been given a look in? (Ogbonna Akudo, Tosin Demehin, Imuran, Abiodun, Onyenezide, Florish, etc)? We really need to be realistic here and stop casting aspirations into the sky. Nigerian female football has at least three or four times more talent plying their trade overseas, than any other Nation in Africa! Let that sink in for a sec! Deltamani: |
Oshoala could easily have scored 20 goals now, if one considering the open goal headers she has missed. She needs to reach out to Osimhen and have him 'coach' her on heading fundamentals - she would be a world class striker IF she can finesse that part of her game. BascoVanVeli: |
Uchenna went to school here in the US, and has always wanted to come back here. Also, the NWSL, especially with the CBA agreement for equal pay they recently signed, has increased the compensation for women. I mean, Trinity Rodman was signed recently for $1.0 million, so the benchmark has been raised significantly for women. Hope she makes a significant impact and I expect more and more quality players from around the world to sign for the NWSL. Deltamani: |
Good for her! Now, can we focus on those who are relevant to the SF in this day and age? Deltamani: |
Seems her move to the Mexican League was a step towards coming back to the US and sign for an NWSL club. Kudos to her for a planned career move and hope she makes a solid impact at Racing Louisville. Deltamani: |
At who's expense? Oshoala? No thanks! She can continue to sit on the bench and possibly learn a thing or two about not being selfish. Deltamani: |
Her selection was a surprise, considering she really hasn't lit up the Chinese league. Realized it may have been a convenient selection, considering she supposedly moved to Rayadas Monterrey (even though she is not listed on the team's website and there is no news of her transfer to the club). Considering she is a like-for-like replacement for Uchenna Kanu, and hardly played last year in China due to their COVID issues, it will probably be a very tall order for her to make the final WC squad (UNLESS she blows up and dominates during this friendly tournament). Deltamani: |
The school year is not over yet. Fall semester is when they play for the NCAA tournament. Spring semester (now) is off season training, which is what she is doing now. It keeps the players fit all season long. Deltamani: |

Clubside Racing Louisville is finalizing a transfer to acquire Nigeria forward Uchenna Kanu from Tigres. Sources tell me the transfer fee would be $150K + incentives, a record for movement between the two leagues.
