Classic case of 'Karma being a b!tch' Randy handled the situation with her maturely - Okobi showed the world her poor team player and lack of leadership skills. Ripping into the coach and team mates, then expecting that it wouldn't influence the final team selection is the height of immaturity on her part. It is even more difficult to argue against her being dropped, especially when the person who displaced her from the team (Onyi Echegini) is much younger, more energetic and brings a lot more intelligent play to the team that she does. She could have handled this better. lovewins: |
In fairness to Ordega, she has been playing very well for her team Spartak Moskow and is in good shape. She always bring a certain energy to the team and she is a proven leader - very well liked by the younger ones on the team (same with Oparanozie). Not sure that is the case with Okobi, as far as team dynamics is concerned. I think the right players were selected in this case. ekehopp2: |
Your comments are spot on. I am excited about the energy that the Ucheibe-Payne-Echegini midfield will bring to the team to support the pace of the Kanu-Oshoala-Okoronkwo frontline (in the absence of Ajibade and Ayinde who are on suspension due to red cards from the WAFCON). Good squad all around. Danielnino00: |
Sorry, but don't fault her being dropped. Its a case of who is 'hot' right now and she most definitely is NOT! Not only has Ngozi Okobi she not been able to secure basic playing time with her clubside, she also has been relegated to a bit part player role over the past 5 games with the Super Falcons. Onye Echegini pretty much displaced her from the midfield, bringing in a whole lot more energy, intelligent play and raw grit to the team's midfield. And when you consider Toni Payne has now been considered the designated AM, the writing was on the wall for Okobi. It was pretty obvious in the last 2 games that Okobi was no longer useful and I am not surprised she was dropped. The surprise for me is Debbie Ajibola being picked over Regina Otu. In fairness, Regina has really not been able to step up her game and her inability to do that cost her a spot. Ajibola being picked will help her tremendously at Univ. of Pittsburgh as well as in the NCAA tournaments. All in all, a very solid team. Jojodjo: |
Our girls worked hard to get Nigeria to the World Cup. Yet, they are being treated like crap by these horrible, evil minded people at the NFF. ☹️☹️ |
Meanwhile, Nigeria is still effing around, because some NFF bastards are hell bent on torpedoing the team by unlawfully enriching themselves at the expense of those ladies who worked hard to get the country to the WWC. |
Not true. Randy’s pecking order is: Oshoala Oparanozie Onumonu And this will be the ranking especially since Onumonu is returning from a hip injury Deltamani: |
Until we start naming names and calling them out, we all here arepart and parcel of the problem. Deltamani: |
It’s a long and informative interview, which I would encourage all here to watch when they have the time. However, in answering your question, focus on minutes 44 thru 50. He also discusses the challenges with the Nigerian setup. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iKc_8nVTeEM lovewins: |
He already said he will be focusing 100% on his Pitt job and will step aside after the WWC. Nigeria will be coached by Danjuma for the Olympics qualifiers, so you can expect a repeat of what happened during the last time, especially when you have a useless coach in charge. lovewins: |
Even the NFF, as corrupt as they are, wouldn't be that stupid to drop Echegini for some nobody who has no zero influence on the team. As much as I like Debbie Ajibola and believe she is one for the future, she is not anywhere close to the class Echegini brings to the midfield. isan: |
Yes. That's because Florida State U was able to grant Onyi dispensation from her final exams at the last minute. Randy promptly added her onto the squad when Onyi confirmed that to him. Nicole Payne (USC), on the other hand, was not able to be excused from her finals and was therefore unable to make the trip. isan: |
When Onyi joined the team, the midfield really began to tick. She successfully displaced Okobi without any controversy and has really elevated that department in the squad. Baring Injury, she should be on the list to go for the WWC. There is absolutely NO home based better that any of the girls we have right now! None!!! isan: |
You can add Oshoala and Oparanozie to that list also. Oparanozie did not play a single minute of qualifiers and has been absent from the Falcons for over 2 years, while Oshoala did not play in any of the qualifiers and barely played 45 minutes in the WAFCON. Question is: should both players then be dropped to accommodate lesser quality or home based players? It ain’t gonna work for Nigeria. lovewins: |
In thinking about it some more, the 'four homebased player inclusion' theory was based, according to Gusau, on saving money for qualifiers. FIFA shoulders the costs of transportation and lodging for all countries that qualify. Therefore, there should be absolutely NO excuse to mandate homebased players on the WWC Squad. Deltamani: |
Largest movement of any African country by a country mile! Yet, according to some, Randy has destroyed the Super Falcons brand and has not done anything. The Randy watch continues... BankyGee: |
Thanks to FIFA’s premature announcement about bumper payments directly to the players, the Nigerian fraud has begun. Wouldn’t be surprised if the Gasau and his cronies insist that half of the team is home based. Hope Randy stands his ground and insists on only the players he intends on taking and rejects anyone imposed on him. Deltamani: |
The man is absolutely useless (see my above comments). It’s obvious this was being used by the NFF as his audition to take over from Randy after the upcoming WWC (Randy has said he was leaving afterwards). This team was already pre-packaged with the very best U20 and U17 players with recent WWC experience, yet the clown found a way to muck it up! I would hope you make a video highlighting the fact that this man is not fit to lead the Falcons or any other female team going forward. We cannot all just be coming here to vent, when we (special kudos to BascoVanVeli) have a very strong platform to highlight issues like this. Our ladies most certainly deserve a whole lot more. BascoVanVeli: |
It is clear Danjuma has to be one of the worst and incompetent coaches for any of our female national teams. His list of ‘accomplishments’ include: 1. Failure to deliver Olympics qualification by losing to Ivory Coast 2. Failed in U20 vs an average Netherlands team 2. Failed in U20 Wafu B final against a poor Ghana team. How on earth can you get to a final and not train your players in penalties? How dumb a coach can you be? All he does is shout on the sidelines, instead of providing the girls with the intellectual tools to defeat their opponents. This is the same Danjuma that was a very poor coach during the WC (Ajibade’s set) when they also crashed out in the quarterfinals and played extremely poor football. How this useless coach still remains in reckoning is a reminder of the corrupt nature of our football administration. Our girls had absolutely no business losing to this Ghanaian team, especially when you realize Danjuma had the great option of selecting the very best of players from Nigerias recent campaigns from the WWC U20 and WWC U17 teams ( who came 3rd at U17 WWC). These girls had big game tournament experience while Ghana, on the other had, just hand picked players who had no prior big game experience. This is an absolute disgrace and goes to demonstrate how useless a coach Danjuma is! |
Total B.S. No Ajara Nchout, Fatima Tagnauout, Toni Payne, Jermain Seoposenwe, Kgatlana or Rash Ajibade? Seriously, who on earth is C. Folorunsho? Deltamani: |
She's not. Deltamani: |
By the way, I wonder what you folks would say about the Stade Reims coach playing Imuran 'out of position' today. She featured as a left striker in a 4-3-3 formation and scored her first D1 Arkema goal. Deltamani: |
So, please let us know who is not 'average' that should be utilized as the Full back(s)? Because, as far as I am concerned, the very best options Nigeria has are the ones currently there. Either that, or those you are advocating for have been tried and tested in the position and found to be not adequate. Deltamani: |
And as usual, the NFF would sit on their hands and wait till the last minute. What is the succession plan for Randy Waldrum? The man announced he would be stepping down after the World Cup. Meanwhile, the Olympic qualifiers would commence in July. Looks like we are shaping up for a repeat of what happened the last time, when Dennerby left after the world cup and that joker called Danjuma took over and made a complete mess of the campaign by losing to Ivory Coast. Its going to be 'de javu all over again' - Yogi Bera! Deltamani: |
I thought it was just me. Extremely selfish player. Can't stand her. BascoVanVeli: |
The NWSL typically releases players from their clubs in the case of a FIFA event. Bear in mind that a very large percentage of the USWNT are with clubs in the NWSL and therefore, the US will be deeply affected if their players are not released for the WWC. Ditto that for several other nations, like Australia, New Zealand, Canada and several other countries. I don't see this as an issue. lovewins: |
I still do not regard her as necessary in the SF and still believe strongly that she is over the hill. However, the current Chief Coach of the Super Falcons, Randy Waldrum, thinks otherwise and so she will more than likely make the squad. Deltamani: |
You are right. The French Feminine league was revised for this year and she is in Division 2 Feminine - B (French D2 Championship - Group A). http://www.statsfootofeminin.fr/accueil.php?id=721 Appreciate the correction. Deltamani: |
