Christianity EtcRe: Christmas Is Religious Adultery; 25th Dec. Isn't Jesus' Bday by AKO1(m): 5:07pm On Dec 25, 2009
No2Atheism:
The bottomline still remains that it is unbiblical to celebrate Christmas. . .
Is it unbiblical to celebrate christmas on the 25th or unbiblical to commemorate the birth of Jesus or both?

I can't speak for all christians but I cannot answer this question because I don't know who caused it, neither do I know why it happened.

I'm glad you have quoted this scriptre, howbeit out of context. You've introduced us to the fact that God does cause some disaster to happen. The only difference is that God does this as a form of righteous judgement for peoples' sins. This is the pattern in scripture and is even a few verses above this, if only you quoted in context:
Amos 3:
1 Hear this word the LORD has spoken against you, O people of Israel—against the whole family I brought up out of Egypt:
2 "You only have I chosen
of all the families of the earth;
therefore I will punish you
for all your sins."

So God made His intentions very clear. It is not my place to decide who caused which contemporary disaster and attempting to do that is quite futile because we may never know.

Christianity EtcRe: Do You Think Nigeria Pastors Need Theology Degree To Open A Church? by AKO1(m): 8:02am On Dec 25, 2009
I don't think so. Even in the widespread 'misinterpretation', red tapism may slow down the spread of the gospel. Let Christ just be preached, those who chose to read their bible for themselves will be fine, and those who rely on MOG will have themselves to blame.

Because christians have no answers to this question.
Okay undecided
I don't expect you to make any sense of what I am about to say because we are arguing on different grounds; just goes back to my initial point.

blackcypha:
IF U SAY D DEVIL THEN GOD IS NOT IN CONTROL OF THE WORLD AND DATS QUITE AMUSING FOR AN ALL POWERFUL BEING NOT TO BE IN CHARGE OF WHAT HE CREATED
Exactly. Because the devil actually controls the system of the world:
John 12:31: Now is the time for judgment on this world; now the prince of this world will be driven out.

The devil is called the prince of this wold four times. God created the world "and it was good", but Adam handed it over to satan when he sinned. How could Adam commit such an atrocity against an All Powerful Being? Its not far fetched:

Psalm 115:16: The highest heavens belong to the LORD, but the earth he has given to man.

So what about natural disasters? Well Jesus' calming of the storm proves that natural disasters are created by the devil. First,
Mark 3:24:If a kingdom is divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand.

And here's what Jesus did to the storm:
Mark 4:39: He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, "Quiet! Be still!" Then the wind died down and it was completely calm.

If indeed God caused the storm, Jesus would not have rebuked the storm because a kingdom divided against itself cannot stand. QED.

PoliticsRe: Free-for-all Fight At Prayer Session For Yar’adua by AKO1(m): 3:22pm On Dec 24, 2009
Minutes after hundreds of youth finished answering amen to prayers offered for President Umar Musa Yar’adua health on Wednesday in Kaduna, they turned violent, as they were seen dragging the Director of the prayer event, one Abdulfatai, demanding for the amount of money they were promised to be paid at the end of the event.
This right here is a representation of IMO the two most pressing issues in our country today: the presidency and the decision of a few to hold the entire nation at ransom, and religious leaders who have 'back-patted' the system for too long without using their positions of influence and material wealth to effect change.

So if the bible says give and it shall be given unto you, and I decide to support somebody's television ministry, am I being robbed?
I'm beginning to think that in these matters, it is best to leave to each his/her own. The person that wants to hear will hear and vice versa. And I am a firm believer that God will judge every man according to their intentions because He is merciful.

This is very good news! Just when we thought that the free calls, Etisalat's minutes back promo et.al. were just what we wanted.

Even South Africa that had mobiles before us are paying almost twice the amount we pay. Imagine, intl. calls to Naija is like N200/min angry

I must add though that it seems as if we trad quality for tariff rate in Naija cuz in my year in SA I can count the number of times a call didn't go through. But here,  lipsrsealed

No One can prove that Jesus was born on the 25th of Dec and that's why it is.
That's why its merely a commemoration. If we can't prove the exact day we might as well choose a random day to celebrate the wonderful event. I'm sure Jesus doesn't mind.
N.B. I changed the title because I know there will probably be 10 more threads on this subject.

Christianity EtcRe: Is Christmas God's Event ? by AKO1(m): 9:30am On Dec 24, 2009
It represents a key christian doctrine, although we are all aware that Jesus was not born on or around Dec. 25.
And then it has the other festivities attached to it, e.g. decorations, trees, gifts, etc.

I am very wary of the attempts by some to remove the 'Christ' out of Christmas.
Yesterday on tv, they were reporting about how a certain group is advocating that the media should only say 'Happy Holidays' instead of 'Merry Christmas'; the latter is imposing. Of course it is expected that the discourse of the layman will change with time.
Would they ask the Muslims to do that during Ramadan?

Check this website, look under "programs" and then "encounter events" for fun stuff your folks could do.
Note that the owner of the website is a youth pastor, with youth aged between 13 and 18.
But I'm sure you'll find something even if this is not your age range.

Christianity EtcRe: Proliferation Of Churches: A Need Or Nuisance by AKO1(m): 8:28pm On Dec 22, 2009
The work of the gospel does not lie with any man, it cannot be branded with a particular church. However our Nigerian pastors don't understand this and want to stamp their footprint in every nook and cranny. If there is a church where I want to put my branch, hasn't the job already been done?

It takes rational government intervention to curb the multiplication of churches everywhere.
