Christianity EtcRe: What's Least Amount You Can Give As Worship Offering On A Sunday Service? by AKO1(m): 2:29pm On Jan 11, 2009
1 kobo, because the widow in the bible gave something like that, and yet God saw hers better than all the other rich people.

It's about your heart, not the amount. God loves a cheerful giver, not (necessarily) an excessive giver.

I particularly like the Amplified Bibile because of the way it opens up the deeper interpretations of scripture. I read KJV most of the time for the same reason JeSoul gave, and Amp. when I don't really understand what is being said or when I want to get more insight.

People like you have a responsibility to expose such scams.

And then I've realised that many Nigerians have a fatalistic approach to life, so to them all good is God and all bad is satan, and there is really nothing we can do about it. tongue I wonder how such people intend to move forward.
Car TalkRe: New Helmet Rule In Lagos by AKO1(m): 9:55pm On Jan 03, 2009
The people that made this law didn't think the hygienic implications through abi? angry So if someone that has yeye bumps on his head wears the helmet I must follow and wear that helmet abi? tongue

keyremotes:
It only makes hygienic sense to have a personal helmet.
It will soon become a "cool" thing to have "carry" one.

Siena:
I actually thought it was mandatory, even in Nigeria.
They've actually tried to enforce it before, let's see how this goes.

Christianity EtcRe: We Must Sin. by AKO1(m): 9:39pm On Jan 03, 2009
@Poster

Jesus paid for/covered for our sins. We will definatly sin but what Jesus did covers primarily for the penalty of sin i.e. (ultimately) Hell. A believer is not subject to go to hell by virtue of their belief in, acceptance and confession by word of mouth of what Jesus did on the cross for them.

If for example I say that I've 'paid' for your crimes, it means that even if you commit crimes, you don't have to go to prison. you kind of get the drift?

Of course that is no license to sin. Unfortunately some xtians see what Jesus did as a 'passport to heaven'. It is, in a great sense, but it is not an excuse to perpetually commit sin.

bindex:
Moreover, we do not want to cheapen his sacrifice by committing small and ordinary sins, like impure thoughts, swearing or not praying.  Jesus Christ did
not die for those simple sins.  I doubt he would have endured a nail and thorns for those.  We should get as much mileage as possible out of it, go for the big sins, the deadliest and bad ones.
There is no such thing as a big or small sin. All unrighteousness is sin, so the bible says. It is judgemental christians who have given different sins ranking.

This came to my mind some time ago: if you ask the average Christian, "which sin is greater, lying or adultery", instictively they will say adultery. Interestingly, somewhere in Psalms, David lists seven things that are abominations to the Lord and guess what is Number 1 on the list? A Lying Tongue! How's that? wink
CelebritiesRe: PussyCat Dolls Vs Destiny Child by AKO1(m): 7:34pm On Jan 01, 2009
Pussycat dolls gives you the impression that Nicole is the artist, and I consider it absurd that people still see them as a group. tongue

Even though Beyonce deliberately 'oppressed' the other two girls in Destinys child, it's obvious that they are a group, at least they usually have their own verses to sing.
Christianity EtcRe: What Makes The Prayer You Pray On The 31st Of Dec Different? by AKO1(m): 5:50pm On Jan 01, 2009
Lets be careful not to bunch everyone together. Although truth be told, quite a number of people do the whole 31st Dec. thing out of religious dogma. And the reason why people take it seriously is the same reason why lazy students do 'fire brigade' a day before an exam.

Personally I see nothing wrong in praying into the new year. As long as you don't think that its that prayer alone that makes the year prosperous, successful, etc, blah blah blah and all the other things people like to wish each other at this time. It's not a bad idea to enter the new year in the prescence of God in prayer, some people even have sex into the new year. grin grin

Hmmn someone refused to comment on a few 'distorted opinions':

kemisuga:
Jerry Curl Pastor and his Imitators grin grin

Just want to comment of a member am close to, he is a member of Christ Embassy. Anytime we want to do morning devotion in my former office, when we are praying, he doesnt say Amen to our prayers. He rather pray on his own and start to speak in fake tongues, only God knows what he is saying? He believe speaking in tongues is just to open ones mouth to say jargons. Even when we are gisting, he will just laugh out loud and say some jargons, that his mouth can pronounce. Apart from speaking in fake tongues, he believe once he is born again, he can wallow in sins, he even said there is nothing called sin, since Jesus has died for his sins shocked. He has the passport to make heaven. He argues alot and turn upside down everything the bible says. He is always right and no one else, cause he is following his pastor footsteps. He even imitate his pastor how he speaks and demonstrate the way he does. But he has not yet jerry curl his hair yet.

For me, my spirit just refuse to agree with this man of God or whatever.

Everybody has freedom of speech on this nairaland, this is my view and I don't care anybody can go to HELL and report me to the Devil.

Peace, am out.
Christianity EtcRe: Excerpts From An Intangible Reality by AKO1(m): 1:39pm On Dec 31, 2008
Thanks for sharing this. It's exactly what I've been thinking about this New Year's eve.

On Nu yrs eve and during 'watchnight service', people fast and pray like they've never prayed before, probably because they think that one prayer is all they need to sail through the new year. I even used to think that way, but all of a sudden this year I'm thinking differently.

New Year's eve just puts certain things in place. It's what you do in the months ahead that makes the difference.

If you need to get a job done and youre not a professional I suggest that you get one.

You don't know any software, I doubt if you'll be proficient enough to make something close to what you see on TV as soon as you install it.
