Politics / Re: EFCC To Seize Diezani’s Assets In America by AkoEja: 12:21pm On Aug 24, 2016
This is one of the times when I enjoy being a non-partition non-tribalistic individual. I support anything good in any government, and will criticise anything bad. I am not in support ofJonathan nor a supporter of Buhari.
Nigeria's problem did not start with Jonathan, but Jonathan made it worse. Jonathan had biggest amount of money Nigeria ever could acquire, but squandered it. He was the latest president and had just left the post. It is imperative that people will criticise him more, having just left.

There's no doubt that the Diezani stole massive amounts of money, the actual amount nobody knows. Jonathan had the mentality that he had to allow his kinsmen to steal because he believes deep down it is there oil money, so he allowed everyone to steal as much as they want, forgetting that it is better to seek progress for the whole country rather than allow a section of the country to corruptly benefit even if petroleum came from their land. It is like taking care of one part of your body but abusing the rest of it, forgetting that the body including that part that you have been taking care of will face destruction at some point.

Diezani is a thief, pure and simple. Let us call a spade a spade. The government of Nigeria does not have enough resources to catch all the thieves at once, as there are too many of them. They just have to go for them one by one, and it's going to take years during which time some of the thieves will escape. It's just the way it is, nothing partition or discriminatory. No one can prosecute all the thieves at the the same time, they are just too many.

It is one thief at a time, pure and simple.

Politics / Diezani Madueke Sponsored Daily Mail Report On Alleged Buhari’s Billions by AkoEja: 11:40am On May 10, 2016

Diezani Madueke sponsored Daily Mail Report On Buhari’s Billions – Source

Yesterday it was reported that the Daily Mail had made serious allegations against the Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari. According to the Daily Mail, it was alleged that of the President’s declared assets, he had at least £1m in the Bank along with 5 houses and 2 plots of land.

Now according to News Agency Naija Standard, the attack was initiated by powerful political enemies in the hope to seriously discredit Buhari. The enemies include Madueke Diezani and James Ibori. You can read the full report written by Samson Shoaga of the Naija Standard Newspaper.

“Whoever fights monsters should see to it that in the process he does not become a monster. And if you gaze long enough into an abyss, the abyss will gaze back into you”-Freidrich Nietzsche

AS obviously stated by Nietzche, a German philosopher, cultural critic, poet, Latin/Greek scholar whose work exerted a profound influence on Western philosophy and modern intellectual history, corruption is a monster that always fight back at the hunter when the heat is becoming unbearable for the hunted. Latest revelation uncovered through undercover investigation in United Kingdom (UK) have shown the extent at which some former ‘untouchable’ Nigerian politicians can dare fight back at the institutions of anti-corruption in Nigeria just for daring to challenge them to account for their stewardship while in office.

Naija Standard gathered that these set of politicians who before now are highly powerful in Aso Rock, Nigeria’s seat of power resort to blackmail, fabrications, planting spurious articles devoid of evidence in the media with the sole aim of rubbishing the vigorous anti-corruption war the present administration of Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari has embarked upon, in so doing the no-nonsense President of Africa’s most populous nation would be disparaged. But they have failed in the process, as lies cannot overtake the truth and darkness can never ever overcome the light.

Our correspondent investigation gathered that these moves are allegedly led by arrowheads of Diezani Alison Madueke, former Petroleum Minister in the last administration presently undergoing medical treatment on cancer related ailment and James Onanefe Ibori, a-two time Governor of Delta State still in British prison serving jail term for corruption-related charges. Sources close to the aides of these politicians confided that before now they had for long had Plan A and Plan B immediately President Buhari came to power. They were to put on track their Plan B if Plan A failed.

Their Plan A was to send emissaries to President Buhari to give a soft-landing to traumatized Diezani so that she could return all the money stolen under her stewardship to Nigerian government and be left off the hook regarding any intending prosecution. You could recall that after President Buhari was sworn in, he had traveled to London, and Diezani personally made reported frantic moves to make peace with Nigeria’s leader which was rebuffed. She had sent few other people to the presidency ever after, but Buhari noted for his passion against corruption, and openly told Nigerians accountability and honesty are the only ways to good governance. Buhari’s response then was that those who misappropriated billions of Naira belonging to Nigeria’s state oil company, the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation would soon be prosecuted. Not long after that Diezani became restless, her nightmares seem to have come. After several sleepless nights thinking of what would become of her status with her falling health fast deteriorating, she was prompted upon by her family and close friends to continually undergo medication for her Cancer problems, after her release byUK National Crimes Agency, alongside four other people.

Ibori’s circle of friends in Britain and Nigeria also critically looked at the trial, conviction of 13 year jail term sentence served on their benefactor, and were hopeful that at the end of his UK Prison Term, he would be heralded to tumultuous celebration in his hometown in Oghara, oil rich Delta State. But when recent reports of Panama Papers scandal in one of their biggest leak hit the press globally, Ibori’s name popped up showing how he enlisted his immediate family as beneficiaries of the offshore companies and foundations with evidential documentation confirming his secret offshore tax havens to hide some of the funds he looted from the state’s treasury.

Going by rising phobia of likely further probe on the Panama Scandal of Ibori in Nigeria after he would have completed his UK jail term, it became very easy for these close friends of the convicted former Governor to accept the dangling proposals by Diezani’s contacts in Britain to frustrate the anti-corruption war of Buhari. So, Plan B was hatched. Daily Mail, London simply came handy for these politicians because of its hard stance against Buhari’s administration since elected as President of Nigeria last year.

In a calculated attempt, a falsehood story laced in tissues of lies without any evidential documentation best fit for ‘arm-chair reportage’ that could well be celebrated in yellow-journalism found its way to the front page of Britain’s Daily Mail newspaper today, just few days to the departure of President Buhari to London on Tuesday May 10, 2016 to participate in the international Anti-Corruption Summit. The story has been verified to be fake, cooked-up to cause disaffection among British citizens and bring about hatred against Nigeria. No single traceable fact in the Daily Mail reports could warrant a publication in any College Press Journal. The ridiculous story showed how empty and bereft of investigative news Daily Mail has fallen. It reveals the standard of ‘beer-parlor journalism’ being practiced by editorial team of Daily Mail.
Naija Standard can tell you authoritatively that Daily Mail further exposed themselves to opprobrium by alleging that Buhari had over One Million Pounds in his bank account. What is the name of the bank? What is the bank account number? All lies indeed. No truth in the report that is now dubbed a fallacy and journalism of disrepute on social media.

As reported in Daily Mail that Hanan (Aisha), Buhari’s 16 year old daughter traveled on first class from London to Nigeria is laughable. Many Editors fly on first class air tickets to media conferences and seminars worldwide. Probably the anonymous writer of the article (who hid his identity) have no sound information or correct dossier on Buhari: he is a retired General in Nigerian Army, a former Head of State, a former Petroleum Minister and incumbent Nigerian President who has never soiled his hands in the cookie jar of corruption. Journalism ethics says that if you are in doubt of any story, kindly leave out. If Daily Mail had no news to fill their pages, they should have closed down or used cartoon stories as fillers.

Plans to Stir Public Demonstration in UK Anti-Corruption Summit May 11-12
Latest information reaching Naija Standard showed that these politicians in their desperate plans to fight back at the Nigerian institution have concluded plans to stir up demonstration by some placards-carrying Nigerians and British citizens at the Anti-Corruption Summit on May 11-12 so that members of the International Community could begin to doubt the sincere war on corruption being fought day and night by President Buhari. Their aim is to sway empathy and outright disconnect between the British and Nigerian Governments such that the earlier planned 250Million Pounds to be given to Nigeria by next year for development should be canceled.

As at press time, no official statement has been issued by President Buhari’s media team on this matter.

This country is so hard to rule, I really pity our leaders. There's so many moronic comments on this thread. How do you expect a government of just one year to fix all the problems of over 50 years? The people in this government seem to have good intentions, and they seem to be doing a few things right. They are still unsettled, as the country is facing an economic meltdown apart from so many security and political issues. This is going to take any government sometime to solve this.

There are so many unpatriotic Nigerians who only think about their own personal gains even if it destroys the country. People from the East are hellbent on destroying this government, irrespective of their best intentions. Boko Haram is another issue. Easterners(so called Biafrans) want to make sure that this government fails, mainly because the government is blocking the source of their stolen funds. Unfortunately Nigeria does not have enough infrastructure to deal with these rogues calling themselves militants. Irrespective of the degree of militancy, Biafra is no more and cannot be resuscitated, the rest of Nigeria will not allow it. The sooner people get this into their thick skulls, the better

It is very irritating to read so many idiotic comments on this thread! There's no magic in the world that will bring Nigeria to prosperity within one or 2 years irrespective of how good the government is.

Nigerian economy was already battered long before the new administration came in. We are in for many painful years whether we like it or not. There is no magic that will bring this economy back to normal within a short period, take it or leave it.

I am not a supporter of any particular party, but the fact is the present administration is going to be there for at least 4 years whether we like it or not. The best thing we can do is to support them to achieve something. There is no perfect government anywhere in the world, even in advanced countries like Britain and America, there are many cases of corruption. The only difference is that corruption is not so heavy as to destroy the country, as we have in Nigeria.

As far as I can see it, the present administration seem to be following the right path to get Nigeria out of the doldrums inflicted by one of the worst government any country could have had.
The last government really messed Nigeria up spectacularly, stealing money like there is no tomorrow. The level of stealing exhibited by the last administration is only possible from people with a psychiatric condition which prevent them from controlling their stealing – kleptomania. These kleptomaniacs are still around, and some of them are sponsored in these threads on nairaland. They make comments and you start wondering; are these people really human beings? How can someone make such stupid comments?

May his soul rest in perfect peace.Diabetes is the greatest killer in Nigeria. Unfortunately it can remain a silent disease until it causes complications and then you see symptoms by which time it might be too late for a lot of people. Nigerians drink sugary drinks and take high-carbohydrate diets heavily without realising the dangers of these food items.
Everyone on a regular basis should have their blood sugar checked, and this is the only way you can detect if you have started developing it as you will not have symptoms until it has caused damage to your blood vessels leading to hypertension, heart disease and kidney disease, and eventually death.

Gurus in the house, I will love you to share your idea/experience on the act of charging a battery bank with the National grid(PHCN) and solar energy at the same time(or stacking multiple charge controllers).
What draws my interest is the apparent difference in the charging voltages from the two charging sources. I also consider possible current backflow from PHCN to the PV array at night when there's no more sun.
For my little setup, I presently use a programmable timer switch to prevent charging from PHCN in the daytime.
Main concerns are advantages, disadvantages, risks and possible dangers one could be exposed to when charging a battery bank from dual/multiple charging souces.

Your contributions will be highly appreciated.
A good charge controller should be able to sort this out. There shouldn't be any questions about back flow from phcn to solar array.

I think you have it all figured out then. From all indications your estimation for the appliances should be between +-10% actual wattage which is fair. I will look into the Chigo freezer sha.. 110w is quite interesting. You TV would use considerably less watt that you are estimating though.. My guess would be around 60w and low if you select eco mode.. led tv consume way less. But setting a higher figure won't hurt.

I intend to go for Luminous Tubular Batteries.. because it is the only one made using the HADI casting which allows the battery to be more Corrosion resistant, Resistance to High temperatures, Low self-discharge, Resistance to abuse, Lightning fast Recharge.. You can also get USBatteries and Trojan who are also reputable brands but cost a bit higher

I thought luminous brand is not great in battery tech though they make good inverters

How did you get the figures for the Fridge and Freezers? They seem very conservative IMHO. Did you get the figures from the equipment label or u used a watt meter? If it was just an estimate then you might want to review them up a bit to like 300 - 350w but it would be best to get a watt meter which would give a more acurate reading. Also it might be wise to get a programmable timer to set when the frige and freezer can come on.. Maybe at around 10-12 noon when everyone should be at work. 2 hours should be sufficient for an efficient freezer to ensure the soup dont go bad. Remember this is worst case (NEPA went awol transformer blew up) scenerio. Also note that both require an starting power of (sometimes ) x 3 of their rated input.

If you TV is LEd what is the size? Unless it is somewhere in the range of 50ish and or was bought 4 hours back.. The 110watt might be a bit high.. Most new led TV's are very efficient.. Most 32 led TV run within the 40-50w range.. Some even go lower.
For the fan ceiling or circulation.. Put 88w each to be safe.. And also ensure you use energy efficient light bulb.. It would help u alot. I got 12 8w Philip energy efficient bulbs from Jumia last year. All my about 11 bulb run for 88w.

Regarding batteries. I would advise you avoid the common SMF deep circle batteries. Unless you want to keep your dod at 50% even that would only guarantee you like 300 circles .. Get a tubular battery which can guarantee close to 1200 circle at 80% dod.

My humble submission
Thanks for your comments. .really useful
The freezer is made by Chigo and it says 110 watts on the label and the fridge is a small one..70 watts.
The TV is LG LED (42 LA620V) 42 inches and it says 110 watts on it. The fans are two standing fans 45 watt's each on the label. I am going to replace them with two Lontor rechargeable fans so that the inverter is not used at night....we use the rechargeable fan batteries only (lasts 12 hours at low setting). The Lontor fans say 20 watts at low speed.
All the bulbs are low energy 7-9 watts LED bulbs ( 5 of them with usually just 2 or 3 on at once)
As advised. .will invest in a watt meter. I will also get timers for the fridge and freezer with freezer on for like 3 hours during the day when it's sunny and the fridge also 3 hours...but not at the same time. TV will only be used when we have excess power and fridge and freezer are not on.
Where do I get tubular batteries.. and are they maintenance free? I'll answer this.....tubular batteries are low maintenance and last longer than twice that of ordinary deep cycle batteries. ..4-5 years or longer versus 3 years

Are two 12 volts batteries in parallel rated at 200AH each, equal to 400AH together?
Satellite TV Technology / Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by AkoEja: 4:53pm On Jan 10, 2016
Thanks, I think your explanation is very clear enough. The 450 watts is the total of all the watts for my appliances, as follows:
TV ..110, Fridge and freezer ..200W, 2 fans and lights ..140 watts making 450 watts for all . I just assumed I will run all for 7 hours to get a rough calculation. Obviously won't switch all on at the same time.

This means my total watt hour is 3150 watt hours and my total amp hour is 3150/12 = 290AH(12 volts battery-two 12 volts batteries in parallel connection ). My total watts to run for 7 hours is 450 x 7 = 3150 and I will need 3150/4.5 = 700 watts solar panels

But are two 12 volts batteries in parallel rated at 200AH each, equal to 400AH together?

Satellite TV Technology / Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by AkoEja: 11:31am On Jan 10, 2016
You can do the math yourself
Figure the Watt hours divide by 24 to determine your consumption in AH. That number is how many AH you use. Now determine the minimum depth of discharge for your batteries and increase the ah to compensate.
Then divide the total Watt hours by 4.5 if no NEPA or 6 if you have NEPA. That will answer the question about your Panels.
Thanksfor your help.
My AH is therefore 450 x7 x 1.6 = 210AH for 40 % depth of discharge.
Divided by 24 gives me 46.6 AH
What is the basis for dividing by 4.5 with no NEPA or 6 with NEPA?
Many thanks again

Can you gurus comment on my setup?
My total load comes to 450 watts . Small fridge and a freezer consuming 200W, LED TV 110W, Light's and fans 140W.

Setup is as follows
Inverter ...1.5KVa
MPPT Charge controller.....40W
Two 200AH Quanta Batteries ....connected in parallel for 24 Volts.
Two 190W solar panels

Assuming I run this load for approximately 7 hours per day.....though will not all run at once. Generally will only run freezer when it's sunny.

Please do you think this is adequate...and if not ..why?

Teslas battery tech is based on lithium ion battery tech- the type used in laptop. I am surprised there are not many manufacturers of similar large batteries. Tesla is like the iPhone of renewable energy packaging an old technology in a sexy form and hyping it's capability and price beyond what it is. The 10kwh battery is priced at $3500 in America which is rather steep for a relatively small battery by renewable energy standards
Saipro:

Thanks for asking rather than assuming.

No, when home, I power them on between 9am and 10am. They are powered down between 3pm and 5pm (mostly around 3pm for the freezer and around 4pm for the fridge). Earlier in the year, they could be powered an hour longer as my panels don't get shadowed till 5pm. On bad weather days, they could be on for as little as 2 hours.

When away, they're powered by timer switches.

Very valid question. I deliberately kept it short.
1. They're generic batteries hence "unbranded".
2. I got them off a friend who got them off the black market.
3. They appear to no longer be in the Nigerian market and the cost of importing them prove prohibitive.
4. They came in 12V 480Wh units but pack a punch! You wouldn't believe the stuff these batteries are capable of. I often doubt their power capacity (I suspect they're higher than rated; much higher).
5. I had to string quite a number together in series-parallel combinations because of their lower capacities. Multiple strings are a strongly discouraged practice in RE and should not be emulated. I was hedged into a corner hence had no choice.

On the plus:
1. Though expensive, they're long lasting and ultimately more convenient than lead acid batteries. I'm speaking of design life.
2. They typically have longer cycle life too (they had better do, not at that price)
3. They are incredibly lightweight. You will doubt their capability when lifting them
4. No mess, no spills
5. If you bottom-balance (as I did), you might not have to worry about "equalling" their charge state
6. Did I mention they're odourless too?
7. Smaller space requirements and no need for extensive aeration like their lead brothers. They're just as sensitive to temperature though.
8. Working with partial state of charge? 50% of the time, mine were never fully charged. Indeed, they like being not fully charged. No noticeable degradation in performance with partial SoC.
9. By the way, they can sit on the shelf forever with low self-discharge rates. This is different from design life and cycle life. Good riddance to hard sulphation!
10. ....... and the list goes on.

Honestly, if not for their price, lead-acid batteries would be redundant by now. Well, lead-acid wins when it comes to heavy current draw applications. LiFePO4 (like AGM and VRLA) however are intolerant of long spells of overcharging. Another win for FLA. And FLA are cheap (probably the most important point, if you don't abuse them; no battery is built for abuse).

I have a new interest though.
I'm currently following Tesla technology and I have my eye on it. Been following it awhile and will continue to.

The fact is ... Osun state is broke because Federal allocation is all Osun state depend on. Osun has very minimal resources. The Federal government itself is broke, as 90% of our revenue is oil. Oil price went from $140 to $43- less than a 3rd of what it used to be! There is no reserve as this has been stolen long ago.
Under Jonathan, oil price was at an all-time high (over $100 consistently), but he increased our external debt from about $4b to 10b and depleted national reserve he met to $38b from $63b left by Obasanjo.
Nigeria is broke, we are just lucky to have sensible people running the Federal government, otherwise things will be much worse.

Nobody - APC, PDP, PPP or whatever will be able to run that state without inflicting some pains. These institutions cannot run as they are, you need money to run them, and there is none!

I do not support any particular party, just want the best for Osun and Nigeria

Politics / Re: Fuel Scarcity: FG Should Legalize Illegal Refineries - Murray-Bruce by AkoEja: 1:27pm On Nov 17, 2015
You cannot legalize the illegal refineries because they are unsafe, and will not meet the minimal requirements.
They are just crudely cooking crude oil, and killing themselves slowly in the process.

Ben Murray Bruce should really have stayed with entertainment, he is losing respect so fast, just talking out of his a55 all the time without showing any iota of intelligence. He sounds almost like a buffoon nowadays!
