ZMAPP Is not widely available. The United States of America did not have enough doses to be able to give Nigeria, this is why they could not help Nigeria when we asked for the the drug. It is an experimental drug , and the process of manufacturing is not yet robust to produce it in large quantities.

It is estimated that by the end of this year, only 80 doses of the drug will be available possibly.

It is not because America hated Nigeria, they simply did not have the drug to give out.

People who bash their country have a psychological problem. They talk negatively about Nigeria as if Nigeria is an individual that has sinned against them and that needs to be punished. If you keep bashing your country, you are only bashing yourself. Any insult you give to your country is an insult to your individual self.

The people make the country, the country does not make the people. Even though we have had bad leaders over the years, the vast majority of Nigerians are great individuals.

Hate your country or not, it is the only place you can really call home wherever you are in the world. If you want your country to be great, you must continue fighting for its growth in whatever little way you can. Rome was not built in a day, Nigeria is only over 50 years as a country ruled by its own people; it's not really fair comparing it with a country like Britain or America with hundreds of years of development.

This map was not drawn by me (I'm not a cartographer!), It was done by people who know how to draw maps. You can find details here: – http://www.buzzfeed.com/mariasherm/every-world-map-youve-ever-looked-at-is-wrong

What I'm saying is that Africa has been presented to look small in terms of landmass, which at the time satisfied the wish of the colonialists when information was not widely available as it is now.The map was part of the design to allow the domination of Africa without question. If at the time of colonisation and slavery, people knew that Britain was so tiny, compared to other parts of the world, there would have been greater assistance to what they were doing at the time.

The bigger you are, the more people pay attention to you, amongst other things

Politics / Customs Denies Sharing Expired Rice (through The Pdp)to Woo Voters In Osun by AkoEja: 3:34pm On Aug 08, 2014
There is a big wig from Nigerian customs who has been doing something like this for years. Basically, they seize goods from importers, and then use it as they wish. This guy once seized cars and motor cycles from importers, then sent them to his home town for distribution to his friends. This sort of thing happens all the time in Nigerian Customs.

Customs denies sharing expired rice to woo voters in Osun
Business Thursday, August 7, 2014

By Ifeyinwa Obi

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has refuted allegation that it collaborated with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to distribute seized expired rice to the electorates in Osun State ahead of the August 9 gubernatorial election.

It would be recalled that the ruling party in the State, the All Progressive Congress (APC), recently accused the PDP of working with the management of Customs warehouse in Ikeja to induce voters with expired bags of rice.

But Customs spokesman, Wale Adeniyi described the allegation as false and baseless.

He said "the fabricator of the allegation is ignorant of the workings of Customs" even as he explained that all seized items including rice go through judicial procedures adding that disposal of any seized item after forfeiture is done in accordance with the law.

Adeniyi said that the idea that the Customs Service of any nation could seize items from any member of the public who is in contravention of the law, and dispose same without recourse to the law is farfetched, and suggests that such a Customs Service does not operate in line with all of its local and international obligations.

While maintaining that the NCS does not have preference for one political party over another, Adeniyi advised the general public to disregard such allegation as it is only an attempt to drag the NCS into 'political parties' squabbles'.

The statement reads in part: "The attention of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has been drawn to a rather spurious allegation opining the collaboration of the NCS with the PDP to distribute seized 'expired rice' to the electorates in Osun State, ostensibly to woo voters to the PDP.

"As a none partisan law enforcement agency, our initial reaction was to ignore and steer clear of this obvious political accusation but for the fact that some un- discerning members of the public may be misled by this baseless and uninformed fabrication, the Service deems it necessary to state as follows:

"That all seizures including rice go through judicial procedures."

"That after condemnation and forfeiture of a seized item, disposal is done in accordance with the law as prescribed by the Customs and Exercise Management Act (CEMA), 1958.

The health sector in Nigeria is in a complete mess. The government never listens unless workers go on strike. The government does not care for the health of the people.

Why do pharmacists want to be called Chief medical director? A doctor cannot be appointed Chief pharmacist. All teaching hospitals already have Chief pharmacists!

The word "Medical" came from "medicine". It is because we are been led by a stupid government that has brought us all into this mess.

I have no objection if they want to become consultant nurse or consultant pharmacist, so far the role is clearly defined;. They have something like this in the United Kingdom, where they have very few of them in these funny posts. I have met a few of them, and you can see how odd they feel when they introduced themselves to you!

The most important thing is not to give the role of a medical doctor to a nurse or a pharmacist.

The salary of the highest paid doctor has always been higher than the salary of other professionals in the health sector all over the world, there is no reason why it should be different in Nigeria

Politics / How To Lose An Election - The Ekiti Example by AkoEja: 9:59pm On Jul 10, 2014
The recent elections in a Ekiti state is a good example of how to lose an election. The governor-elect did not win the election, rather the incumbent governor lost it.

The administration of Fayemi is a good example of how to lose friends and alienate the people!

It is easy to blame the electorate, and start accusing them of accepting bribes for votes, in most cases this is not true.

The people are not fools, they generally will not sell their votes for bags of rice, just like that; especially in a secret ballot.

The only time you will see people seemingly giving up their votes because they have been bribed is when they feel they are under threat (Either their life is under threat or their livelihood)
When you analyse what the current government has done in terms of development, you would think winning the election will be a foregone conclusion.
However when you analyse how the governor has behaved and treated the people over the 4 years, you will not be surprised that he lost the election so badly in spite of his performance.Instead of building bridges, he destroyed them!

I hope the APC leadership will learn a lesson from what happened in Ekiti state, and start making corrections before the other state elections and national elections.

They are too arrogant, and if they are not careful, the Ekiti experience will be repeated all over the country!
Many of us want PDP out, but if APC continues like this, they are are certainly going to lose.

In most of the APC states, you get wanton harassment of ordinary people in the name of banning street trading, even when they know people are struggling and cannot find jobs. You have vehicle inspection officers harassing drivers especially commercial drivers, extorting money from them. If you mistakingly park your car wrongly, which I agree is wrong, you get such a hefty fine that sometimes it is better to leave your vehicle with them, rather than collect it. Punishing a simple traffic offence, should not result in losing your livelihood. Punishment should serve as a deterrent, rather than a way to destroy the offender.

Yorubas (Or any tribe for that matter)are not idiots, the excesses of Tinubu are too glaring for all to see. Everything seem to be done to benefit his family - all the children, in-laws etc, are holding one political office or the other in various states. He virtually own Lagos already.
If something is not done fast, Yorubas will rebel, and bring back PDP, Or any other party that seem able to win; Irrespective of whether they believe the new party is better or not.

Luis Suares should not be banned for Biting an Italian Player - Workable Solutions apart from a ban suggested
• How to Prevent Another Luis Suares bite.

• By Chairman, Committee for the Elimination of Human Bites in Sports
• Inspite of several bans and suspensions, Luis Suares has continued to bite with equal aggression and vigour. It is obvious stopping this is beyond the power of FIFA or other footballing associations. A more concrete solution needs to be found; as lengthy bans have had no effect.
• After a lot of thought and consultation with fellow football fans, we came with the followings:

We will like Luis Suares to continue to play football- he is such a talent!
The little matter of cannibalism should not make us overlook this fact.
• Slide 2:
• There are many options yet to be explored to sort out this cannibalistic tendency.
• Luis Suares should not be banned. It has never helped, and will never help
• 3: Some of our suggestions are drastic, but drastic actions require drastic measures.
• 4: This is a unique problem, no organisation in the world, has any experience in dealing with it, FIFA needs all the help it can get.

The NFF is full of corrupt officials. They expect to be bribed before they pay out allowances.
I have always respected Stephen Keshi since the glory days of Nigerian football, when they won the 1994 nations cup and performed well in the world cup, which culminated in being awarded the most entertaining team of the tournament that year.
Keshi should use the leverage he now has to force the hands of these pot-bellied bellicose NFF officials to do the right thing. This team performed well because Keshi is known to be good at motivating his team

Osaze Odemwinge is a good player, but he was a disruptive influence. Keshi was right to leave him out. He is a bit arrogant, would not have respected the coach, and would not have allowed the team to settle. Winning a cup is not just about good players alone, you need team spirit and team cohesion to succeed. Osaze would have not have helped in that. Too immature, too arrogant!

Anyway, congratulations to all Nigerians, special kudos to our man, Keshi and the team.

However, from my knowledge of Nigerians and their gullibility, I will not be surprised if this is a true story. This is obviously a scam to trick you out of your money. You'll be foolish to pay this money.

All these bastards buying private jets got the money through deceit and cajolery. Most of these pastors are just smart thieves masquerading as men of God. This is a smart approach to steal money rather than carrying guns and ammunition and risking the arrest of the law enforcement agencies. You can make more money this way than to be an armed robber

The trick these pastors use is to investigate you to find information about you, which they use to make their prediction. They have a lot of paid investigators who are insiders you are unlikely to know about.

Don't be a fool, nothing will happen to you or your family. do not throw away your money.A word is enough for the wise.

Its fine if its an ordinary party member making this statement, but this is coming from a senator!

Another Republican senator once said before the election that a woman who got pregnant following a rape should not have a right to abortion, as she must be lying that she was raped otherwise she wouldn't have got pregnant. His theory was that, if a woman was raped in the true sense of the word, then she wouldn't get pregnant because the body will reject any conception that follows a rape naturally.

Business / Money Can Buy Happiness by AkoEja: 7:21pm On Dec 15, 2012
The general belief is that money cannot buy happiness. This is based on the premise that being rich does not equate to greater happiness.
However, Evidence is beginning to show that money can really buy happiness. Just as you might have a lot of money to buy the best car in the world, you cannot own this car unless you actually go to the car shop and actually purchase the car. The same things relates to happiness.

To use money to buy happiness, you will need to go to the happiness shop. Unfortunately the happiness shop is not the same as the car shop, as it is not so obvious. Research has shown that the way to get to this shop is to spend your money on other people, rather than on your self. This must be done with a genuine interest in helping somebody else. Tremendous happiness comes from this gesture far and above any happiness you might get from buy a new private jet or any item of great value for your own personal enjoyment.

Garbage-fed community cooker cuts wood use, energy costs

By Isaiah Esipisu

KIBERA, Kenya (AlertNet) - At 9 am, boiled-maize vendor Janet Atieno leaves her house in Laini Saba village in Nairobi’s sprawling Kibera slum with a sack in one hand and a stick in the other. Her mission is to collect solid waste that she can exchange for cooking time at a community facility that makes use of garbage as fuel.

“For many years, I have used either charcoal or firewood to boil the maize. But the cost of these forms of energy has become unbearable,” said the mother of four, explaining why she decided to start picking up rubbish to redeem at the community cooker.

The cooker is based around a simple incinerator for dry solid waste, which burns at more than 800 degrees Celsius, with a very high combustion efficiency of up to 99 percent, according to its designers. The heat is channeled to nine cooking plates, used by local people to make food for commercial and domestic purposes, as well as for heating water.

“The main aim of constructing this facility was to help slum dwellers manage their solid wastes sustainably, and earn from it at the same time. But there are other advantages too,” said Janice Muthui, coordinator of the Community Cooker Foundation, a charitable trust set up by Planning Systems Services Ltd., the architectural practice that invented the cooker. “Whenever the cooker is on, it saves the equivalent of several tonnes of charcoal and firewood, which are the main sources of fuel in Kibera.”

With financial support from the U.N. Environment Programme (UNEP), the company helped local artisans build the prototype cooker in 2008 in Kibera, one of Africa’s biggest slums, on behalf of a community-based organisation called Ushirika Wa Usafi Kibera (Fellowship for Cleanliness) Laini Saba Kibera.

The group, which has around 230 members, also provides commercial bathing services and toilets for slum dwellers, and solid waste management.

Nairobi-born Jim Archer, chairman of Planning Systems Services, told AlertNet he first started toying with the idea for the cooker back in the 1980s because he was disturbed by the growing mountains of rubbish he saw around him in Africa, where garbage collection is often poor.

“If I could find a way of heating it to the point where people could use it for cooking – and given the high cost of fuel wood, and the fact that trees are increasingly scarce – it would mean a sustainable source of fuel on the threshold of every low-income community on Earth,” he said.

The problem with the first model in Kibera was that the temperature in the firebox was too low to eliminate toxins from the rubbish. Then Archer’s team met a local blacksmith, later dubbed “Firebox Francis”, who suggested a technique that involved dripping sump oil and water onto a super-heated steel plate.

That boosted the temperature to 850 degrees Celsius, enabling the cooker to produce toxin-free smoke and ash from burning plastic and other waste materials.

SAVING TREES

Environmental Resources Management (ERM), an international consultancy, has calculated that, if operated 24 hours a day, the community cooker could save the calorific heat equivalent of burning around 2,400 mature trees over one year.

More than 80 percent of Kenya’s urban dwellers, many of whom live in poor, informal settlements, use charcoal made from wood as their primary source of energy, according to government statistics.

Their heavy dependence on wood for fuel has contributed to the rapid decline of Kenya’s forests, with negative effects for the local climate, wildlife, water sources and forest dwellers, says the World Rainforest Movement.

On average, burning 2 kg of dry wood emits 1 kg of stored carbon, according to Vincent Onguso Oeba, head of the biometrics division at the Kenya Forest Research Institute (KEFRI).

“Considering that charcoal is largely made of carbon, it becomes environmentally friendly to substitute it with rubbish, because it saves a substantive amount of carbon from entering the atmosphere,” the research scientist said.

In Laini Saba, Atieno needs 6 kilogrammes (kg) of charcoal each day, at a cost of 180 Kenyan shillings ($2.50), to boil 80 kg of green maize for her business. She uses a further 2 kg of charcoal for her domestic needs – adding up to some 240 kg of charcoal each month.

“But when the community cooker is on, all I need is 90 kg of rubbish per day to earn cooking time that is sufficient for all my commercial and domestic needs,” she explains, adding that it takes about two hours to collect that amount of waste.

Not only is she helping clean up the local environment, but when the fruits of her labour are burned in the cooker, she is also contributing indirectly to forest protection.

“The effect is multiplied by hundreds of other slum dwellers who seek to do the same in order to get free cooking time to save on their daily costs of living,” said Muthui of the Community Cooker Foundation.

AWARD FOR LOCAL IMPACT

Bernard Manano Asanya, project clerk for the group in Kibera, said the cooker is lit three times a week, and community users either ‘pay’ 90 kg of solid waste for a one-hour cooking session or Sh10 ($0.12) per 15 minutes. Group members, most of them women and youth, are asked to bring in rubbish every Friday to be weighed.

The project employs seven young people who sort the solid waste. They remove objects that can be recycled, including glass and some plastics. Food and plant waste, such as banana skins and potato peelings, are separated out too so they can be used for making compost. The rest is burned in the cooker.

In February, the community cooker was awarded the inaugural World Design Impact Prize by the International Council of Societies of Industrial Design (Icsid).

Yet, while it is providing a valuable local service, Archer said the cooker hasn’t been easy to maintain, not least because of the violence that erupted in parts of Kenya after President Mwai Kibaki's disputed re-election at the end of 2007. The fledgling cooker was unharmed during the political unrest, but some of its early supporters fled Kibera, including Firebox Francis, disrupting the system being established to operate it.

Inventor Archer recognises that, having finessed the technical design, the social aspects of managing the cooker’s operation will be key to its success. The foundation is now working with development partners, including UNEP and non-governmental organisations, with the aim of rolling out the community cooker beyond Kibera.

With simple modifications, it could also be used to distill water, smelt metals, generate electricity, bake clay products, run refrigeration and dry maize and millet, according to the foundation.

Orders have been placed for cookers to be built in Karagita slum in Naivasha in Rift Valley Province, in Nairobi’s Kangemi slum, and in Kisumu East in Western Kenya, Muthui told AlertNet.

And UNEP has identified 20 to 25 Kenyan government schools across the country where it hopes to install the cookers, Archer said. He estimates that savings on fuel wood and charcoal would pay for the cooker’s set-up cost – under $10,000 – within five years.

“If you could replace the existing cooking facilities in Kenya’s 25,000 (primary) schools, the amount of trees you could save would be mind boggling,” he said.

Travel / Re: Can We Actually Change The Negative Perception about Nigeria? by AkoEja: 11:58pm On Nov 26, 2012
we can change the perception of Nigeria if we Nigerians perceive ourselves positively. The negative perception of Nigeria in the world is brought on by Nigerians themselves. Nigerians even have a negative perception of their individual self, as many people have a low opinion of themselves. For example, anything made in Nigeria is rejected by Nigerians while we enthusiastically embrace anything that comes from outside the country, especially from light-skinned people.

This negative perceptions is part of the slave mentality which remains with a lot of Nigerians. Unfortunately we do not have good leadership to help the country change that perception.

The solution to most of our problems will be good leadership which can only come through a developed democracy
