Business / Re: Video Game Business In Lagos by AkoEja: 3:08pm On Aug 28, 2010
Good business idea, and can succeed if

1. You factor in electricity supply into your business plan - think solar/inverters/generators
2. Factor in security - highly important
3. Set it up where there is good packing space
4. Provide quality environment

Crime / Re: How Police Brutalized A Beauty Queen by AkoEja: 2:59pm On Aug 28, 2010
You have done something by writing here. I advise you send this to media houses in the country. Ideally, you should sue, but I know its not easy to go through with that decision.
You broke the traffic rules no doubt, but you did not deserve to be brutalised for it. There are already statutory punishments for breaking traffic rules, but not acts of brutality like this. I feel sorry for you, but you need to fight back legally, and seek recompence; not fighting back is what perpetuates acts like this in our society. We Nigerians are sometime just too docile when it comes to fighting for our rights. As Soyinka said "the man dies in all, who keeps silent in the face of tyranny".

This guy has less than one year left in power, and he wants to borrow N100 billion now. He has calculated that the money allocated to the state is not enough to steal, hence the need to borrow. His previous source of income is not safe for him to use anymore. Kai, Shege, barawo!

TV/Movies / Re: Kajola - Another Reflection Of Naija Ineptitude by AkoEja: 6:54am On Aug 13, 2010
OM3G4's criticism is not constructive. He has not even watched the film!. He says he is into CGI/animation etc, anyone can say that. I am also into CGI, as I have created some rectangular characters in 3DS max and lightwave, holywood/nollywod, I am ready
People who have seen Kajola say its a big improvement. Even the executive producer said he is not saying its the best film ever. The guy invested 130million naira which is no small beef. The lack of cinemas in the country is a factor slowing down the development of our movie industry, as there is not a lot to make from DVDs due to piracy, especially in Nigeria.

Let us appreciate our own a little. Expecting people to produce movies that compete with holywood is unrealistic, and its not fair.
Politics / Re: Real-time Gps Station Goes Live In Lagos State by AkoEja: 6:13pm On Aug 12, 2010
People sometimes forget that some of these Oshodi bus conductors have children who are educated to the highest level. I am a medical doctor with specialisation in O&G, while my mum used to sell kola nut, orogbo, and pepper in our village. My dad was a farmer in the village too. I have worked in Nigeria and in different parts of the world. This is inspite of having what many of you might see as a lowly background with little or no money. The oshodi bus conductor or the pepper seller at Mushin for that matter may both not see the benefit of something like this to them directly, BUT they will both benefit from an overall improvement in the society that comes from something like this. If something like this helps the government in planning and monitoring projects, it will help improve the investment atmosphere, which brings more money to the state. More money in the state will help all businesses, including pepper selling, meat selling, bus-conductiing etc

A lot of Nigerian think mainly about how much naira comes to their pocket alone. All benefits do not have to be directly financial

Its a disgrace to all nigerians that we have allowed it to continue to happen. There cannot be any excuse for what is happening. This shows Nigeria as truely a banana republic!

That is a silly comment, you need your head examined.  Your country that you called silly and useless is only a country because there are too many "silly AND USELESS" people like you running its affairs. A country does not exist without people. People who hate their country never do anything to improve it, hence it remains silly and useless. The problem of Nigeria is not that of leaders alone, its also that of ordinary citizens who do not love their country
Sports / Re: KAITA: A New Word Added To Oxford English Dictionary by AkoEja: 6:45pm On Jun 19, 2010
I must admit I enjoyed the first two or three posts in this thread, the rest are rubbish.
Kaita made a mistake, we can laugh about it, its not the end of the world. He has contributed immensely to the Super Eagles. We should not hate him, he just forgot to control his annoyance after the Greek player pushed the ball against his belly. Again, we can laugh, but we should not hate; and no tribalism either.

Its not all about Kaita, our players failed to respond appropritely after the sending off.
In 1990, Cameroon won 1-0 against Maradona's Argentina, with 9 men! Argentina played well, but they couldn't break Cameroon even with Maradona. Our players lacked confidence, even though they had talent and have been playing international club soccer for years. Poor sport admnistration must have a big impact on the psychology of players, and must play a part in the effectiveness of our players. Our administrators are terrible. How can you wait till few weeks to world cup before employing a new coach. They should have emplyed a coach at least a year before qualification for the world cup to give him time to know the players and work with them
Sports / Re: Nigeria Vs Greece: [1 - 2] On June 17, 2010 @ World Cup by AkoEja: 5:11pm On Jun 17, 2010
Nigeria is yet to score in open play, our goal against greece today was pure luck and not because of practice or striker's brilliance.

CORRECT. No way Nigeria will qualify. We don't deserve it.
This quota system on the team needs to stop.

Southerners are clearly superior players compared to these quick tempered aboki.
To some idiots, everything is about tribe! I feel like vomiting! Foolish comment, and for your information , I am from the South, but I only see myself as Nigerian rather than a Southerner. Hausas, Ibos, Ibiobios, Yorubas etc; we are all brothers and sisters
Sports / Re: Nigeria Vs Greece: [1 - 2] On June 17, 2010 @ World Cup by AkoEja: 5:03pm On Jun 17, 2010
Even though they are professionals, I am surprised they couldn't handle 10 versus 11 with experience. The Greeks were rubbish till the sending off. God cursed Nigeria in the competition because of the way they have dealt with Amodu twice - He qualified Nigeria for 2002 world, they removed him, and then this one. The players did not believe in themselves at all. They lost the match immediately Kaita was sent off.  The fire brigade approach to football administration will not let Nigeria succeed in football. The talents on that field was a lot, but they had no self-belief. Pschology is part of the game. You can't start kicking somebody because somebody pushed the ball against your belly. Many teams do these things to make you react and get sent off

There is nothing anti-North about this, the government is looking for snow in the desert; another way to siphon money into the hands of thieves - both Southerners and Northerners.
They will just dig some shallow wells and say they are looking for oil. Of course, they will say they cannot find any at the end, but they would have had the opportunity to steal billions! Shege barawo! Onyiosi
Art, Graphics & Video / Re: Will A U.S. Plasma HDTV Work In Nigeria? by AkoEja: 11:47am On Jun 14, 2010
It may not work if it does not have an analogue tuner - which is what we currently have in Nigeria.
The following information gives a general overview of tuner compatibility
There are essentially 2 types of TV signal: analog and digital. So TV tuners are either analog or digital. The more recent breed of tuners which are actually dual tuners that combine the two types of TV tuners are generally referred to as hybrid tuners: those are compatible with both analog and digital signal types.
Analog Tuners: Primarily MPEG-2 analog tuners (NTSC, PAL and Secam), which are tuners with an onboard MPEG-2 hardware encoder. This will pick TV signal in Nigeria.
Digital Tuners:  Over-the-air (OTA) digital ATSC and DVB-T tuners and other classes of digital tuners (QAM, DVB-S, DVB-C, DVB-H, etc.)
America uses ATSC and DVB-S and DVD-S2(both satelite TV) while Britain uses DVB-T and DVB-T2(freeview) + Satellite DVB-S and DVD-S2

For a TV to work in Nigeria, it must have an anlogue tuner(the TV picks the signal directly) or you can use a satellite box(like Sky digibox or DSTV in Nigeria) which picks the signal and send it to the TV. You will then need a satellite dish
Check which tuners this TV has first

Politics / Re: Yerima Cannot Continue In Senate, Says Nba by AkoEja: 11:25am On Jun 14, 2010
islam is against paedophilia, islam does not support child marriages. period
Politics / Re: Yerima Cannot Continue In Senate, Says Nba by AkoEja: 12:52am On Jun 14, 2010
SOME INFO FROM THE HOLY BOOK.
Consider the following verse,
4:24 - ,  And those of whom ye seek consent (by marrying them), give unto them their portions as a duty. And there is no sin for you in what ye do by mutual agreement after the duty (hath been done). Lo! Allah is ever Knower, Wise.

This verse talks about commencement of marriage and giving of dowry by the groom to the bride. This verse is stating that if bride and groom want - they can 'mutualy' agree on dowry. Now mutual agreement requires that both parties are mature enough to know what they are doing. Can a child possess this maturity? Does a girl 11 years old know what she is doing in terms of marriage? The answer is a 'No'. The 'mature' aspect of parties is not restricted to marriage only but also to Divorce (2:223) and matters related to Orphans (4:06).

Now the question is,  who is a 'mature' person? Or what is the age of 'majority'? Of course Islam does not mention it anywhere. Usually a person is called a 'major' if he/ she is 18 years of age or older - below than that is a 'minor'. This is the legal definition in most of the countries.
Many Islamic scholars do not believe that The Prophet did marry a nine-year-old Ayesha because it would have violated the requirement of the valid permission clause of the Islamic Marriage Decree. Therefore, the Prophet married an intellectually and physically mature lady Ayesha. Check further here , http://www.studying-islam.org/articletext.aspx?id=935

Politics / Re: Yerima Cannot Continue In Senate, Says Nba by AkoEja: 12:33am On Jun 14, 2010
You cannot come across as fair or sincere if, before you take a stand on this Yerima issue, you do not take into cognisance the provisions of the religion he subscribes to and the cultural practices of his people who have sent him to the senate to represent them.

This is the problem; people continuing to commit illegality and all sorts of atrocities; hiding under the name of religion and cultural practices. Their religion and culture, just a facade to allow them to commit crime, what a shame!
This is the 21st century, yet some people remain stuck in the 13th century!
Quote me the passage in the Quran(in English please and verbatim) where it says its ok to marry underage children.
Mohammed died in 572AD, nearly 1500 years ago, why do we have to do things exactly as he did them thousands of years ago? Why can't a person wait for the child to grow up?
When a man prefers sexual relationship with children than adults, he is simply a paedophile! He has a mental problem which makes him want to have sexual relationship with children, and he needs help. In a barbaric society however, he can cover this atrocity easily, using money, power, influence, etc.
We know this sort of thing happens a lot in the North of Nigeria, and even down South among mostly muslims, but not restricted to muslims alone, but when the person involved is a senator, the interest of all Nigerians is raised to a much higher level, for obvious reasons. These kind of practice must be stamped out. If there is a law protecting this disgusting man, that law needs to be changed, fast. There are many things in the Bible that a lot of christians have stopped practising as they do not fit into modern day living. Some people are worse than animals. Even animals don't defile their young!

Please does anybody have the picture of this 13-year old? Would like to see what actually attracted him.

Why would you need to see the picture of the girl, If I may ask? What does it matter if she is beautiful or ugly. You are sick!
Politics / Re: Yerima Cannot Continue In Senate, Says Nba by AkoEja: 12:28pm On Jun 13, 2010
The worst thing is that this kind of atrocity is very common, especially in Northern Nigeria. Its one of the reason, vesicovaginal fistula which causes urinary incontinence, has one of the highest incidence in the world in Northern Nigeria; as people like Yerima and mistakay impregnate teenage girls whose pelvis are not yet large enough to have babies.

People like 'mistakay'(one of the respondents here) and Yerima are all around us all the time, and this is why we need a solid political system, to sort out these sick individuals. You can imagine how embarassing it is to have a criminal sitting in the highest law-making body in the country!

Business / Re: Advice On Relocation To Nigeria From Uk by AkoEja: 12:37am On Jun 12, 2010
Just in case you are serious, if you have a business in the UK, do not close all down suddenly and shift base, do it gradually over 2-5 years, then move permanenly when the time is right. This is what I am doing at the moment. This means I have the facts myself, and don't need anybody telling me how much it costs to rent a house, buy one or build one. You need to visit Nigeria 1-3 times every year and see things for yourself first before moving finally.

But, I suspect,
This looks like a waste of time for those replying to this post. I don't think you are serious about relocating!
Politics / Re: Are Nigerians Resident In Uk Jealous Of Their Visiting Counterparts ? by AkoEja: 12:18am On Jun 12, 2010
Home-based Nigerians while on holiday tend to be free-loaders even though they are rich enough to pay their way. The UK-based ones that are well-paid usually do not have enough money to throw around, as life in the UK is not that easy, even if you have a good job - for example, as a doctor. Home-based Nigerians tend to assume that the fact that you are in a good job in the UK, means you are financially strong enough to take care of them.

Sports / Re: Football Pundit Paints Horrible Portrait Of Nigeria by AkoEja: 7:46pm On May 22, 2010
There are some truths in what he says. The problem is he is probably racist, as you expect from a lot of people at Fox TV, and many other media networks. BBC have been doing many programs about the world cup for weeks, and all they talk about are negatives - AIDs, poverty, murder etc; which seems like an an agenda to drive visitors away from the world cup in South Africa. Nothing posive at all.
The White press have a racist agenda, and they tend to exagerate any negatives about Africans. A lot of White folks from Britain will be shocked when they see South Africa and find its not as bad as they have been made to believe!
Religion / Re: Why Do Yoruba Movies Promote Babalawos? by AkoEja: 9:13pm On May 18, 2010
To show how entrenched this stupidity and backwardness is, I heard a story of a professor of economics from Africa, who said money supply cannot be tracked because it’s difficult getting the data of those monies that come from RITUALS. Can you imagine that? A professor who was trained in the science and techniques of economics said MONEY RITUALISTS have impact in monetary policy. He didn’t say currency counterfeiters, he directly mentioned money ritualists, how they do it he didn’t explain, probably he couldn’t.

That is why African’s problem defy solutions. That is why even our wars are most brutal. That is why the mind is so warped that nothing seems to be working. There is a nexus between this observation and the state of development of Africa as a whole. Can you imagine how the Hollywood has impacted on the American society and even societies outside America. What is more, these so-called Babalawos are dying of ordinary malaria fever in villages.

Very intelligent comment, well said.
Religion / Re: Why Do Yoruba Movies Promote Babalawos? by AkoEja: 9:08pm On May 18, 2010
Yoruba films are dying because of the Babalawo problem. Bringing juju into everything has made me to stop watching Yoruba films. Its really disgusting. Its due to lack of quality amongst the producers. They usually involve the babalawos in cheesy idiotic and moronic plots.
Business / Re: Was Abiola An International Drug Baron? by AkoEja: 5:11pm On May 15, 2010
People who supported the actualisation of june 12 election did so on principle. Its difficult for someone like the originator of this post (' intelligent poster') to understand that. Principle are principles; many of us that voted for him were aware of many of his flaws, but in a democracy, you must make a choice, and Abiola was chosen. he was certainly the most credible amongst the other contestants. Nobody can deny that he loved the people, and he wanted to make a difference. Any successful 'contractor' at that time cannot be a complete saint.

Babangida wants to contest the elections, and I can bet you that we are going to see more posts like this at nairaland. The guy has billions in dollars to throw around
Business / Re: Fashola Shops For N73.3b For Airport by AkoEja: 11:57am On May 01, 2010
If the roads are good, and every other infrastructure is in place, we might say this man is bereft of ideas, so lets allow him, but Lagos is still far off expectation, so why another airport? Besides, how many people can afford air transportation in Lagos? All these talks about Lagos being 15million plus, does not hold water, as a very minute population can afford air transportation. If he is short of ideas, he should watch the BBC documentary about Lagos again. He will definitely know what to do. The fact that, it is PPP does not mean anything. PPP can provide houses. PPP can provide electricity. PPP can make the rail come back to live etc.

When you build an airport, its not just for people flying. Its for everyone. If you can't fly, those who fly bring business to the area. Building an airport is not an elitist project, its all part of development. A lot of people in Nairaland talk out of their ass!
