Politics / Re: Is This Nigeria? I Was Moved To Tears By These Pictures by AkoEja: 9:46pm On Apr 23, 2010
I watched the program. I expected what they showed, as that is how the white media portray Nigeria - never in a good light. This is how white people obtain happiness - showing how bad others are- that makes them feel good. Showing how better they are.
Believe it or not, majority of the people in those dumps are much happier than the film makers.
At one point, they said "11 million people living in these dumps, " . That is the whole population of Lagos!
The pictures are real; but they never balance their report. I wonder if our media can one day show a program like "The real London" ; and show all the bad areas too
Travel / Re: Poverty_in Britain! Nigerian_single_mother_of_4 by AkoEja: 6:46pm On Mar 14, 2010
Some Nigerians prefer to be a slave anywhere else in the world, than be a king or queen in Nigeria. Of course if this lady goes to Nigeria, she will struggle, as in Nigeria, you have to look after yourslef and your family on your own. However, she and her children have no life in Britain.
S

Many Nigerians deceive themselves that living in an the UK or US is always better than living in Nigeria, I pity them
Politics / Re: Cattle Dealers On Strike Starting Monday by AkoEja: 6:20pm On Mar 14, 2010
There are too many idiotic comments here! What's gone wrong with Nigerians. I am a Southerner, a Yoruba, but I see myself as a Nigerian foremost. The cattle dealers are right to go on strike. They face so much extortion from the Nigerian policemen at countless check - points, some of them only a few miles apart,; and then extortion from touts again, when they get to the market. The government needs to do something to stop these touts- uniformed policemen and civilians alike.
Let us all support them and stop looking at everything in tribalistic terms. It seems to me that Nigerians are becoming dumber and dumber when it comes to National issues. Not surprising considering how our rulers have messed up the growth of the country
Politics / Re: Co-passenger Forced Out Of His Seat For Sitting Close To A Governor by AkoEja: 2:00pm On Mar 14, 2010
Gbenga Daniel is one of the worst criminals in Nigeria who managed to steal the governor's seat. The man is an idiot, a thief, really full of himself. All the things he has been doing in Ogun state were activities of his front companies. Thief, Ole, barawo, onyin osi !

The NFA if full of dead woods, that's why.

I agree to that! And thank God I am alive to reply u!
Politics / It Will Be A Miracle If Yaradua Survives His Illness by AkoEja: 12:27am On Feb 26, 2010
I pray the Inactive President Yaradua survives his illness and recover fully for the sake of his family, but this is wishful thinking on my part. He is too ill to recover - he has kidney and heart failure, and is unconscious. His survival chance is probably less than 25%. There comes a time in Medicine when whatever you do no longer makes a difference
Sports / Re: Who Do You Prefer To Coach The Super Eagles Now? by AkoEja: 12:18am On Feb 26, 2010
My colonial mentality tells me we need a white man. May be we can go around the world to buy some white players too and make them Nigerians. That will assure us of winning the World Cup. Brazil, with all their brown-skinned players won the World cup so many times simply because they were lucky. After all, the white man invented football!
Sports / Re: Kanu Blasts Amodu by AkoEja: 12:12am On Feb 26, 2010
Kanu may have a role; however if I was coach too, I would have left him on the bench. The guy is getting old. Time for him to move on!
Sports / Re: Nigerians Are Ingrates - Amodu by AkoEja: 12:08am On Feb 26, 2010
Well said, Coach Amodu. The idiots at NFA are wrecking Nigerian football. It is difficult to perform better than this with so many distractions
Sports / Prediction : Nigeria Will Be Disgraced In The World Cup In South Africa by AkoEja: 12:01am On Feb 26, 2010
The reason for this is simple - the utter ineptitude of the NFA. However good your players are, you need a good team. How many countries that have qualified for the World cup are still debating which coach to employ? We qualified because we have so many World class players and we were a bit lucky.
The NFA mismanagement is killing Nigerian football!

Politics / Re: Unbelievable! Sizable (70%) Yoruba population support Thief Bode George. by AkoEja: 9:01am On Oct 28, 2009
i swear, looking at those pictures i know we are finished in nigeria

see people (in the pictures) openly and shamelessly supporting criminals

these will be the same people who will later be whining that nigeria doesn't work

bastards

Mr oyb, Do not despair! Every thief in the world will have some supporters. How can somebody steal billions and not have supporters? It does not work like that. The vast majority of Nigerians are against these thieves
Politics / Re: Unbelievable! Sizable (70%) Yoruba population support Thief Bode George. by AkoEja: 8:51am On Oct 28, 2009
Eran Oko, was it your father who convicted Nzeribe? What did he steal, if you care to explain?

If not for the internet, which creates a level playing field(which is good), somebody of such low calibre as you will not be able to get your opinion out like this- you will be too scared. What has my father got to do with it? I am extremely happy that Bode George is jailed, and I am a Yoruba man. Millions of Yorubas, Ibos, Hausas etc, are also happy. I pray one day others like him will meet their nemesis, whatever tribe they come from. Viva Nigeria!
Politics / Re: Unbelievable! Sizable (70%) Yoruba population support Thief Bode George. by AkoEja: 10:13pm On Oct 27, 2009
I am a Yoruba man, and I don't support any thief whatever their tribe! The originator of this thread is one of the people destroying Nigeria. Stealing is not peculiar to any tribe, or any race even.
Every thief will have some supporters. Alamisiegba had supporters, bode george has, Abacha has, Nzeribe has, Ibori has ; just to mention a few thieves from different parts of the country.
mekuslogan, you need to broaden your horizon, and improve your education!

Politics / Re: Documentaries You Must Watch Before You Die ! by AkoEja: 9:48am On Oct 26, 2009
That is definitely not true ! This is not about what is most watched however. There is more factual information in the John Pilger DVDs than you will find in the Alex Jones ones. I am recommending these documentaries because of their educational value to Africans especially. See them first before you compare them with any other
Politics / Documentaries You Must Watch Before You Die ! by AkoEja: 8:56am On Oct 26, 2009
Watch any of these documentaries, and you will be shocked about the truth of things happening in the world. Many Nigerians especially need to watch the John Pilger DVDs and read his books, to educate themselves about what drives the big powers in their actions. If you have any conscience at all, you will cry watching the John Pilger's DVDs or reading his books. How I wish I could make our politicians see these DVDs !

Here goes

1. Documentaries That Changed The World - John Pilger (4 Disc Box Set) [DVD]
2. The War On Democracy [DVD] [2007] DVD ~John Pilger
2. Heroes by J Pilger(Paperback) (Book)
3. Freedom Next Time (Paperback) by John Pilger
4. Hidden Agendas (Paperback) by John Pilger
Politics / Re: Nigeria's Achivements In 49 Years Of Independence? by AkoEja: 11:10am On Oct 19, 2009
How can I love my country when it has demonstrated hatred towards me and my kind through the years?  I would start loving my country when someone is held responsible for the murders which has been happening in Nigeria from independence to date. The country doesn't even need to appease me. It needs to appease the souls of 2 million people who were starved to death because they demanded freedom and justice. The country is serving a curse placed on it by the souls of the innocents lost in the past 49 years. You want to move forward, but you are determined not to correct your past. I don't participate in delusional optimism. Sorry dude!

A country can not hate you; as a country is not a person or an individual. You sound like you have some self hatred. If you hate your country, you hate yourself. Simple as that. Nigeria is not the worst country in the world, Nigerians just need to get a grip and be realistic.

If your country is serving a curse placed on it, the curse is to the people. Nobody is asking you to engage yourself in delusional optimism, I am only asking people to face reality and tackle the problem of the country head on. I'm not sure where you live in the world, but if you move out of Nigeria, then you realise what you miss about your country.

It is the people of a country that makes the country, not the other way round. It is ludicrous that many Nigerians want a ready-made country with everything in place to go to instead of spending time to make their own. If you want to live in a fine house in a good neighbourhood you would have to spend money and energy to build it. The same with your country.

Until Nigerians realised nobody else is going to come and build their country for them, that is when this country will start moving forwards. How many Nigerians can move out of the country anyway? If we estimate that 20 million Nigerians are outside Nigeria (a clear over exaggeration), what happens to the rest 130 million?

NIGERIANS, LOVE THY COUNTRY!
Politics / My List Of Nigeria's Achievements Since Independence: by AkoEja: 3:02pm On Oct 05, 2009
My list of achievements since independence:

Education :  We have definitely made big strides in education. We have top level doctors, engineers, economists, teachers, lawyers, literary gurus etc who have achieved maximally both nationally and internationally
Communication: Communication has improved significantly, and it’s now standard to be able to communicate with friends and family all over the country without problems. International communications is also no longer a problem. We now also have a large number of radio and television stations delivering myriads of programs to our people. The role of the Private stations is highly commendable in this area.
Democracy. This is an area where there would be most controversy if anybody should say that we have made strides in democratic rule. However, one area where we can say things have moved forward is that it is now no longer acceptable for soldiers to rule the country. No group of soldiers can come up now to say that they want to take over government and expect Nigerians to accept them. Former military ruler, Abacha, made sure of that. This is an achievement whether we want to accept it or not.
Foreign policy. In the area of foreign policy, Nigeria has made strides and at one point Nigeria was a highly respected country in Africa in international politics under the old regime of President Obasanjo.
Transportation: Nigeria and has also achieved a lot in the area of transportation with many interstate and intrastate road networks, though most of these are in need of vital repairs now; but what we had prior to independence was nothing to write home about compared to what we have now.

We can go on and on, and there is a lot yet to be written, and there is a lot more we could have achieved if we had better leaders than what we have had so far. There is no doubt that many countries in similar situations have achieved much more than Nigeria has achieved, but my belief is that we will eventually get there though not with the present set of leaders that we have.
Politics / Re: Nigeria's Achivements In 49 Years Of Independence? by AkoEja: 8:07pm On Oct 04, 2009
Its not just about fighting ! Its about contributing your own quota in whatever way you can, and not keep complaining all the time that things are not right. For your information, i am already doing my bit, and I hope to do more. You need to love your country, that does not stop you from hating the leaders if they are bad.
Politics / Re: Nigeria's Achivements In 49 Years Of Independence? by AkoEja: 6:37pm On Oct 04, 2009
There is so much negativity in this thread. If you hate country so much, what hope is there for the country to develop?
This thread has made me understand more why Nigeria's growth has been problematic. Nigerians hate Nigeria too much. Those of you who have written negative thoughts here about Nigeria will definitely perform worse than Nigeria's corrupt leaders if you have the opportunity to rule.

A people deserve the kind of leaders they get, because you must either have put them in power, or if they forced themselves into positions of power, you have allowed them to stay there.

Nigeria cannot move forward until Nigerians start loving the country, and are ready to fight for its growth.
There are some parochial views amongst some Nigerians, where they believe that continued colonialism would have been better than independence, how do you answer such views? The colonialists did not colonise us so as to develop Nigeria - they came to plounder our resources for the good of their homeland(Britain)

Nigeria remains as bad as it is because Nigerians have refused to fight enough for it! People, there must be some good to say about your motherland!, because wherever you go, there is no place like home, though home may not always be so homely.
Politics / Re: Nigeria's Achivements In 49 Years Of Independence? by AkoEja: 11:09am On Oct 01, 2009
]"err, my brother, it is only a blind man that will not see the great achievements we have made so far,

We have made achievement as the highest 419 nation on earth,

We have made achievement as one of the most unstable nation on earth. "

I am not surprised by your reply. Most Nigerians only see the negatives of Nigeria. Your conclusion is "Nigeria was better before independence than now"!
Politics / Nigeria's Achivements In 49 Years Of Independence? by AkoEja: 10:42am On Oct 01, 2009
This topic is about what we have achieved compared to what it was when we were ruled by British colonialists. For the oldies in this forum, what positive changes have you seen? grin

I used Multilinks USB pay as you go broadband in Lagos and Ibadan and was quite fast - in fact it was as fast as my three UK broadband service.
I understand Starcomms have something similar.
