For someone on a health and social care visa, can I start my own business as a supplementary job? I know the 20-hour limtation will apply and has to be on the shortage occupation list.
Any ideas on supplementary jobs to boost income will be appreciated.
Thank you. Your dependant can start the business but you are bound by the 20hrs limitation. |

babajeje123: I need car insurer recommendations. I'm due for renewal with my current insurer but the price is above the roof for a car I only use major for school runs for just 2 weeks when I'm WFH and on Sundays. Use Compare Market. Currently, I have my insurance down by 500 pounds. I'm not sure about the trick, but I would advise you to make the change when it's a month or two before the end of your insurance. |

TouchOfSpice: Hi Everyone.
Please i will like to seek your opinion , With the ongoing challenge regarding the proposed immigration policy,
Is now a good time for an immigrant currently on a Skilled work visa to consider buying a house (Prior to the release of the white paper, We had indicated interest in buying a house, our offer has been accepted and we have started the mortgage application process.
After the white paper release, I have started developing cold feet and reconsidering my deceision ,
Thank you. I would advise you to proceed and buy the house. In any way they want to put the clause, ownership of the home may be part of it. So it would still be a win-win for you. If you decide to do japa 2.0/3.0, it would still be a win-win at the end. |

Efftyy: Hello good people. I need contribution on way forward.
I just moved out from an apartment and I tried all possible best to put the flat in shape so my deposit can come back in full payment. After the checkout inspection the Estate agent emailed to inform me that there are cleanings and fixing to be done in the apartment and they will get back to me as regards the estimate. I replied to inform him that I have tried all my possible best to put all in shape before leaving the apartment and I don’t see any place that requires cleaning or fixing in the property. The Estate agent replied my email and inform me the landlord is ready to settled for £100 and give me the rest , if I agree he will contact TDS to remove the £100 and close my account. And if I disagree the Landord will pursue all means to get me fix and clean on my cost . If you have a clear picture of before you started living in the house and after you moved out( then you can use this to get your money back. Just send the details to the estate agent as evidence. If you don’t have these details then I would advice not to chase unless the £100 is a big cash out of the deposit |

luqken: Hello,
My broadband contract (with Virgin media) is ending in few days. Can someone recommend a broadband with good deals. I don't understand what Virgin media is saying regarding renewal of contract because how can I move from £22 to £57. Call them and let them know you don’t want to renew again as you can’t afford to pay £57. They will beg you with better deal maybe £27. I did the same and they upgraded my bandwidth too. |

Here in Scotland, as an adult, I call my GP at 8:30 am and get an appointment for the same day, latest 11 am. If it's surgery, within 2 or 3 weeks depending on the type of surgery. In fact, I got a surgery appointment within a day after the GP analysis and got the surgery done on the 3rd day when someone canceled. |

Zahra29: Yes, you typically need an outdoor aerial or satellite dish to access the full range of Freeview channels, however there are indoor aerials like the one below in case you don't have or want one on your roof.
(Disclaimer I haven't used this particular brand of indoor aerial or the Freeview box I linked earlier)
Do you have a smart TV? They almost all come with some Freeview channels nowadays. It may just need to be configured...

I have that currently but our supplier seems to be dodgy. The connectivity to Internet is poor. BTW, @Zahra29, if I get the amazon stuff, do I need antenna or satellite outside? rock86: Thank you much. It's for my friend actually. He did an engineering course, Elect Elect. For nursing, we are required to register with a body amd write a qualifying exams, is it same for yours? If so, which body and what exams is required. I will be glad to get clarification There are many areas in tech. Incident management, IT support, software engineering, developers, coders, security architect, cloud architect and many more. All these depend on area of interest for your friend. As you know, technology is revolving and currently Gen AI is what every big tech coy is also focusing on now but before you jump OK any of this you must have a basic foundation. If you want to start as IT support, basic knowledge of network resolution and support, I advice starting with basic security certification, incident management, ITIL(Infrastructure Technology Information Library) a framework for IT service management- Foundation is okay to start with. For coding or developer, start with learning python, this is a requisite for any many engineering positions to know then basic of security, you can learn that with foundational course like Comptia A+( there are various ones out there). The field is wide so you choose what you like. There is IT security assurance, compliance and auditors too |

Thank you You can start using LinkedIn and set parameters on the roles you wanted ,the country, sponsorship et al. I always advice applying directly to the company . A lot of people have testified using indeed, you may try that. Also, you may Check Amazon e.g AWS sites, Google, Facebook, tik tok for software developer roles. If you want big 4, check website directly too. Many times you will get a lot of rejection but don't panic, just ensure you are consistent md submitting at least 5 applications in a day. I tell you, one will work and you will get fully paid sponsorship job from Nigeria that will take care of your flight and even accommodation for some period . Wishing you the very best |

crypticTrey: Good morning house Please I kind of need an advice from y’all in the Uk I’m a software developer (mobile app developer) in Nigeria with two years of experience and I currently earn about 500k. I started making plans on coming to the Uk via study route and I’m currently in the stage of applying for my visa. I have been very optimistic about this but last night I spent a long time thinking about it as I’m really worried about the situation I read about the Uk and where they stand with immigration.
I have been following this thread for months to understand what it’s like over there and I really hope I get a response. Thanks in advance 🙏🏾 You have the greatest chance to apply for work from Nigeria as software developer. Why are you coming in as a student? I would say be patient and continue applying. When applying(target locations that are not popular) Also try Canada as other people have mentioned. |

Chreze: ”.
We can go on. When people talk about correction, it’s not just flogging, it’s punishments. It’s not always FEAR, it’s respect. Imagine a little girl not even up to 10 shouting at her mum like she can take care of herself if given the opportunity. Then the parent is scared to caution her cos she will be reported and arrested. Thank you for refining my earlier statements. I believe you've accurately summarized our conversation regarding discipline and cultural values in Nigeria. The situation here is distinct. Despite the presence of Generations Z, A, and millennials, who introduce diverse behaviors, comparing the lack of respect among youth in the UK to that in Nigeria isn't something to be debating on. Even though there might be many disrespect among the younger generation, the contrast remains stark. In the UK, it's not uncommon to encounter incidents like teenage smoking on trains, talking back to parents. In Nigeria, however, such behavior still largely occurs discreetly due to our society's prevailing disapproval of it |

heroshark: I don't think discipline has anything to do with beating/flogging a child, we have that in Nigeria yet the rate of cultism particularly in low income neighborhoods is staggering. Can you say teenages are better behaved in Nigeria compared to the UK due to the training they recieved?
Nigerians need to unlearn the habit that beating a child equals disciplining the child. Proverbs 13 24 Whoever spares the rod hates their children, but the one who loves their children is careful to discipline them. Do you have a data of any children who grow up in foster care as a better person? If you do have please convince me. I can say, teenagers in Nigeria are better behaved than UK |
