Politics / Fromer Governor Falls Victim To Boko Harm by Akpaife(m): 6:56am On Oct 06, 2014
A house belonging to former Governor and now Minister for Youth Development, Mr. Boni Haruna was yesterday, confirmed to have been destroyed by the Boko Haram insurgents who wrecked havoc at his country home in Michika Local Government, Adamawa State.

The towns which were allegedly attacked by the insurgents included Kuburshosho, where the minister hails from as well as Garta.

A resident of Garta, who identified himself as Joseph said the insurgents arrived his village about 6 am yesterday and looted people's homes and shops before setting them on fire.

"They burnt most of the shops and houses after looting them. People had to climb the nearby mountains to save their lives.

"For now, I can't say the number of casualties as we are still in the bush from where we have just learnt that the attackers had left."

"They told us that the insurgents attacked Kuburshosho village where they burnt the family house of former Governor of the state and current Minister of Youth Development, Boni Haruna," Joseph said.

However, it was learnt that attempts by the insurgents to enter Kamale village were thwarted due to the River Kamale which was now overflowing due to the recent downpour in the area.

Meanwhile, no fewer than 10,000 Higgi people of Michika Local Government Area are now said to be living as refugees in Yola, the state capital while Michika and other towns in the local government having deserted their houses.

A pressure group under the aegis of Higgi People's Initiative Organization said this, adding that they were ''crying out so that the whole world will be aware of their plight following the attack by Boko Haram.''

Addressing a news conference at the NUJ Press Centre yesterday in Yola, the Spokesperson for the group, Mr David Barau explained that the wreckage and destruction of their local government led to the death of hundreds of the Higgis.

Barau, a one-time deputy governor of the state said, "there are today more than 10,000 Higgi people living as refugees in Yola and its environs, while Michika and all other towns in the local government area have become ghost towns.

"We would like to draw attention to a part of the 1999 Constitution pertinent to our outcry. In chapter 11 (14)(2b) of the First Schedule of the constitution it is clearly stated that the security and welfare of the people shall be the primary purpose of government.

size38: This is the most sensible write up I have read coming from any Igbo man or woman in a long time. Quite on point . Devoid of any form of ethnic connotation and ingredients. Mr Joe Igbokwe has just given his people the best advice ever. From what is happening, the Igbos are not helping themselves politically in Nigeria. How do they want other tribes and peoples in Nigeria to have trust in them Igbos if given power? This is the main reason why many believe that it is easier for an elephant to pass through the eye of the needle than for the Igbos to be president of this country again.

JingoOAU: Dear Umaru Musa Yar'Adua, when you were around we called you: The BAD one. The SLOW ONE. The SICK ONE. Yes, you were sick, in fact, sick all through your administration. We all cried for your resignation at the height of your sickness. Cursing you, your first lady and your supporters (The first set of Cabals). Asking you to die if you want to die and allow the man with all the Goodluck in this world to lead us.

We forgot that even though you were sick, you were the first Governor to have ever declared his assets publicly and you remained the only
President in the history of Nigeria to have ever declare his assets publicly.

We conveniently forgot that even though you were gravely sick you were the first president to ever reduced the price of petrol in Nigeria,
(From N75 to N70 and later from N70 to N65) and the economy did not collapse like the present leaders are making us believe. You even
reversed the sale of our refineries.

We forgot that you didn't afflict yourself with your sickness and so could do very little about it. But we still insisted that you just have to go,
so that Nigeria can finally have her chance with Goodluck.

We forgot that even though you were terminally ill, you still succeeded in solving the Niger Delta crisis which you didn't cause, but you found a
solution. And even crushed d first Boko Haram uprising and caught its leader.

You gave us rule of Law, Ameachi reclaimed his mandate as Rivers governor, Andy Uba lost in court and was removed as Anambra State's
Governor. Oni lost in Ekiti and was removed, Agagu lost in Ondo and was removed, Osunbor lost in Edo and was removed even though they
are all members of your party (PDP).

Now we have seen what a healthy president has done with the country.
His Excellency President Umaru Musa Yar'Adua,
may your Soul Rest in Perfect Peace.
We will forever remember you and your leadership.
Go n wake him from grave, keep ur sentiment 2 ur self d same way u r cursing GEJ n 1st lady u will say d same when GEJ leave office we no ur type
Politics / Cameroonian Soldiers Shell Boko Harm Camp Inside Nigeria by Akpaife(m): 9:01am On Aug 31, 2014
Cameroonian soldiers have launched further attacks against Boko Haram insurgents, shelling one of the sect's camps inside Nigeria.

The Cameroonian soldiers launched the attack across the Nigerian border and killed many of the insurgents, a security official stated on Thursday.

The The Agence France-Presse quoted the source to have said that the Cameroonian troops shelled the camp on Wednesday evening, two days after the Islamist group had seized control of Gamboru Ngala, a town located at the border with Cameroon.

“It was tanks stationed on the frontier at Fotokol (on Cameroon’s side of the border) that shelled the camp on the other side.

“Seen from Fotokol this morning, Gamboru looks empty and smells of death. Nobody knows how many Boko Haram members were killed, but it is obvious that many were,” the French news agency quoted the anonymous source as saying.

The shelling was confirmed by a local police officer.

“These were abandoned houses that they have occupied since they entered Gamboru. We think they still control the town because there are many of them and they didn’t all gather in the same place,” he said.

Calmness had been restored to Fotokol by Wednesday, following days of panic as residents and Nigerian security forces fled from the Boko Haram attack on Gamboru.

Boko Haram has faced minimal resistance from the military as it has stepped up attacks across North-East Nigeria, where it wants to create a hard-line Islamic state.

After clashes in Gamboru Ngala, Nigeria’s army had dismissed reports that the soldiers had fled but that they had been “charging through the borders in a tactical manoeuvre” and found themselves on Cameroonian soil.

The Boko Haram fighters crossed the border into Cameroon earlier this week, after attacking a military base and police station in Nigeria and apparently sending some 480 Nigerian troops retreating across the frontier.

Between Monday and Tuesday, Cameroonian troops killed 27 Boko Haram elements during an attack in an area near Fotokol in the far north.

A Cameroonian soldier in the region said the insurgents had been pushed back into Nigeria, with calm returning to the area on Wednesday.

In recent weeks, Boko Haram, which is seeking to carve out a de facto Islamic state in the north, has stepped up attacks in Cameroon, leading the country to increase deployments along its jungle border.
Politics / 2015:buhari,gov Kwankwaso's Supporters Clash by Akpaife(m): 8:42am On Aug 31, 2014
The battle for the presidential ticket of the All Progressive Congress (APC) is creating tension in Kano State where the supporters of Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso and those of former Head of State, Major General Muhammadu Buhari, have clashed.
The state House of Assembly, dominated by the APC, has broken into two camps, each supporting Kwankwaso and Buhari.
The governor and former Head of  State are leading contenders for the APC presidential ticket.
Some members of the assembly, under the aegis of G34, had, late last week, endorsed Kwankwaso for the APC presidential ticket.
But signs that all was not well in the parliament emerged, yesterday, when a member of the group, Yusuf  Abdullahi Atta, dissociated himself and some of his other colleagues from the endorsement, declaring support for Buhari.
Kano State Deputy Majority leader, Yusuf Suleiman Babangida, who disclosed the G 34 endorsement of the state governor, on Thursday, declared that the current security situation in the country requires a man with courageous disposition of Kwankwaso to handle. ‘’The security of state and it’s citizens which is the first obligation that the law of the land places  upon leadership is deteriorating at all levels due to the collapse of the centre”, the lawmaker said.
Babangida, who played a prominent role in the election that brought Kwankwaso to power in 2011, stated,  “We the lawmakers in Kano House of Assembly, 34 of us precisely, hereby propose our leader, Dr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, for the office of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria”.
Babangida noted that his group’s  conviction emanated from the fact that “Kwankwaso is eligible to occupy the office of the President,’’ saying, ‘’We therefore consider this aspiration as the taste of every progressive mind who has concerns over the state of the nation. “
In a sudden twist, yesterday, Atta, representing Fagge local government in the assembly, distanced  himself and some of  Buhari’s loyalists during a popular radio political programme “Kowane Gauta”.
The lawmaker, during the political programme aired by a private station declared that Babangida’s statement did not enjoy his support and urged  Buhari loyalists to remain calm.
‘’For now, Kano has no candidate other than Gen. Buhari for presidency by 2015; anything short of this popular arrangements remain a deceit”, he said.
Atta, during the pay per second radio political programme, whose listeners cut across seven states in the North-west, affirmed that Kano would only consider any other option outside  Buhari except he stepped down his ambition.
Buhari and Kwankwaso have large but disciplined  and fanatical supporters in the state who are emotional about the 2015 presidential dream of their principals.
