One of my regrets today is that I did not take enough pictures of me growing up. Its good to see what you looked like at different stages. Pictures are good historical assets. |
Celebrities / Hollywood Star Heath Ledger Found Dead by Albato(m): 1:08am On Jan 23, 2008 |
Brokeback Mountain, A Knight's Tale, The Patriot and Monster's Ball, Casanova - if you have watched these films, then you know Heath Ledger. He was found dead in his apartment. He left a daughter. There is an investigation at the possibility of overdose on sleeping tabs - a suicide perhaps. This should convince us all that the world is vanity. No matter how much fame and money you have.

Culture / Re: My Wife-To-Be Is An "Osu" by Albato(m): 1:55pm On Jan 16, 2008 |
She is an osu? So what? Everyday we complain about racial discrimination and other forms of human degradement. Back home we still cling to ancient unjustified inhumanity. What gives another person a right to label and underate another human. Its like playing God. If you have ever felt bad about tribalism, racial discrmination. If you have ever complained about being marginalised, then you should dump this achaic idea and get on with it if you love her. |
Celebrities / Re: Nigerian Celebrities Who Are They Dating by Albato(m): 7:25pm On Jan 13, 2008 |
All the people criticising celebrity "news mongering" should take time to note the amount of employment that come from just reporting what "Britney had to drink last night or who she is dating now". Think of the horde of papparazzi, the numerous news paper houses, journalists who live off stalking celebrities. Lets not just slag off the celebrity culture thing. Its providing food and emploment for millions of people. Moreover, do you know how much Brad Pitts autograph can fetch you on ebay? If he was not highly rated by the media, do u think it will be worth a dime. I support us starting our own celebrity culture in naija. I mean, we have superstars in naija. Why should I read about 50 cent everyday when we have artistes like him in naija. We want to know more about our celebs jare. Those who think the same should help start the craze right here at our new site: www.octoclick.com (still being constructed). If you have any news or pictures about our celebs, post it there. In future, we intend to offer a tiny reward for your news and photos and videos. |

Romance / Re: If Your Boyfriend Keeps Many Female Friends by Albato(m): 1:12pm On Dec 31, 2007 |
Absolutely dangerous situation. A man cannot long remain friends with a female (especially a beautiful one) without getting "ideas" one day. Keep an eye on him. Better still, let him know how you feel. |
Politics / Re: Benazir Bhutto Former Pakistani Prime Minister Is Dead by Albato(m): 12:46pm On Dec 30, 2007 |
This is one of the things you must expect as a politician or aspiring leader. Leadership is not meant for cowards. She was not a coward. Its a great sacrifice. |

r_o_b_b_y:I agree with you. She had a death wish. It was bound to happen. She threw caution to the winds. Its as if she wanted to enter the matyr hall of fame by all means. Like I said before, Musharaf now has a free run. I read on yahoo she's just been buried amid widespread rioting. |
Romance / Re: Does Love And Money Work Hand In Hand? by Albato(m): 12:11pm On Dec 28, 2007 |
Money brings a sense of security and greatly influences decisions. No one wants to surfer. A woman has right to choose a rich suitor over a poor one. As much as the men have right to dictate what "statistics" their wives should have. I have lost babes to moneybags in the past and I dont blame them for leaving. Yes, I had the usual heartache but come on, who wants to suffer. |
Politics / Re: I Am Tired Of NEPA by Albato(m): 11:44am On Dec 28, 2007 |
jay bee: You have to agree that clueless leadership has been largely responsible for the NEPA problem. Enough said. An alternative source of energy like solar or nuclear is good. What about the cost? Have you thought about the risks involved in nuclear power generation? I think we should work on improving what we have. Its not that what we have cannot work. Its just that the wrong people are in control. People pay bills yet they are left in darkness. |
Career / Re: Best Place To Start A Career? by Albato(m): 11:17am On Dec 28, 2007 |
Lets talk about starting a business of your own too. Nothing beats working for yourself. Building a business and watching it grow over the years. All thos KPMG and Oil companies where started by someone. The first step is to get a proper education in a practical course or get experience from an apprenticeship in a good career. Lots of Nigerians have made it in business, IT, etc. What about the areas we ignore. Its not all about going to university. Making it in life involves a degree of wisdom you dont get from the classroom. Am sure there are some mechanics, electricians, traders, contractors who make as much as an oil company worker. In answer to your question, the best place to start is where you are comfortable and know very well. For e.g., if you enjoy tinkering with electronics, coupling and uncoupling devices, obviously you will do well being a technician or engineer - thats the best place to start your career. Either on your own or you seek employment (not necessarily in the big companies). Like one person said here, the best place to start is those small companies where you will get more responsiblity and experience. |
Politics / Re: Benazir Bhutto Former Pakistani Prime Minister Is Dead by Albato(m): 12:30am On Dec 28, 2007 |
I was moved to an exclamation when I saw this sad news on yahoo today. Infact it was bound to happen. I could almost say she was a bit carefree. Almost as if she was daring it to happen. Fearlessness is a nice virtue to have as a leader but to throw your life away like this while trying to serve is the most unfortunate thing that can happen. Musharaf and Alqueda will be happy now. |
Nairaland / General / Re: What Would Make Your Clubbing Experience More Fun? by Albato(m): 12:21am On Dec 26, 2007 |
Apart from a good environment and location, the life of any good club is the DJ. If he is talented and knows the right vibes to play, people troop in. Your gate fees should be reasonable too. Sample this tune from Sonique to know what am talking about: http://www.octoclick.com/component/option,com_seyret/Itemid,72/task,videodirectlink/id,28/ |
Dating And Meet-up Zone / Re: Im Married But I Need A Male Friend by Albato(m): 10:06am On Dec 24, 2007 |
I can't understand why it must be a male. She said she's bored and probably lonely. Dont you have a best friend of the same gender? She's got an ulterior motive clearly. She started by telling us the husband does not touch her for weeks. I think something is fishy here. She needs a male companion for more than an ear to talk to. Best thing would be to talk it out with your man or visit a marriage councillor for advice. |
Romance / Re: Is It Good To Be A Jealous Lover? by Albato(m): 9:59am On Dec 24, 2007 |
Being jealous will only shoot up your blood pressure but I dare say God himself is a jealous one. There's got to be a good use for jealousy somewhere. |

Programming / Re: What Software Have You Created? by Albato(m): 6:29pm On Dec 21, 2007 |
Many moons ago, I wrote an inventory system as my school project. I helped develop another such program for one company in Naija back then. All these were done in the ancient language of DbaseIV. (dont laugh, it was the tops in those days). I tried my hands at VB also. But the best part of me came when I managed a payroll system based on MS Access. I had to migrate most of the functions from a Clipper (another achaic language) based system to MS Access. It involved much head banging. But I got it working. It was on a job and I lasted there for six yrs. These days, I am trying my hand at web design. Experimenting with PHP + Mysql based content management systems. |

Culture / Re: What's Expected Of Nigerian Women by Albato(m): 9:49am On Nov 29, 2007 |
Our marriage is the OPEN type where extended family members are welcome at all times. Check a situation where the man has to be mindful of his family's opinion before marying a woman. Am just speaking to support a previous member's opinion. You have to be ready to accomodate your hubby's family too in the marriage. Again, culturally speaking, the man is regarded to be the head of the family. There is no power sharing here. A wife is subject to the man. A lot many people will deny this and even scream out "fowl" but they all know its the truth and on average its what happens mostly. The woman's role basically is to raise the kids while the man works hard to maintain the family. This may have changed in recent times due to economic hardship. Both man and woman these days play the role of bread winner but the man is still regarded as the authority. These do not mean our women have been relegated to the background. NO. You will find that if you remain loving, sincere, respectful, accomodating, Naija men can be the best lover around. |

Paedophilia In some countries, this fellow would be arrested. The breakdown of law and order in our dear country has led to monsters like this going unpunished. |
