Is there any Telegram/Whatsapp group for Nigerians In Oshawa/Ontario?
TravelRe: Living In Canada/Life As A Canadian Immigrant Part 2 by Alchemist01: 2:51pm On Jul 27, 2021
@CountVersailles

Sometimes you can just shut your damn mouth and let people that have reasonable thing to say speak.

You always feel like you know it all.

That's how somebody was asking about bringing milk and you were spouting rubbish as usual.

Typical Nigerian that will travel abroad and be thinking they have arrived. Nonsense.

CountVersailles:
Why are you stopping at Fried meat and Groudnut oil? Why not bring in a live goat? Wouldn't that be just nice! grin
There's no goat in Canada to kill and eat o, so you really should.

When i am travelling to Canada, am I supposed to travel with a bank statement for proof of funds again? If yes, can I used the same one that I used during my study permit application or I need to go and collect the latest bank statement?

Note that I have already started classes and paid full tuition for spring/summer semester.

This thing that I am reading about Ethiopian airlines not allowing people to board until physical classes start in Sept is quite frightening because my flight is scheduled for next week.

I started classes in May and the semester runs till August. In addition, the Prof. I am doing research with is expecting me for research at the lab. I have verification of enrolment and also letter of support from the school for travel. I am fully vaccinated but I still booked for 3 days quarantine to avoid all this kind of mess.

Asides @oyinluv, has anyone here traveled with ethiopian airlines recently and had this issue. Cus it will be really devastating if they don't allow me board.

Based on what I read hear about Ethiopian airlines previously here, the experiences had been positive and I don't why this.

@ikigayana

When you made the reservation at townplace suites, did you put your card details online ?

When you cancelled, were you charged anything on your card ?

Did you book on their website or you called them ?

Ikigayana:
As far as you are fully vaccinated with evidence and travel 14days after your last vax, you are good to go.

I made a reservation at Towneplace suites for someone and found out later that there was no need to hotel quarantine since she had a positive covid result 14-90 days prior to her travel date and is now negative (with test result). I called the hotel and asked nicely that it should be cancelled as the person would not be coming again. And it was cancelled with no story.

Hello guys,

I will be travelling to Canada on a Monday and arriving in Canada on a Tuesday. I am in a dilemma about when I should do my covid test. If I do it on Friday afternoon, by monday afternoon, 72 hrs would have elapsed. Is there any covid testing center that operates on Satuday or Sunday?

If yes, how much do they do the covid test ?

Thanks @Ikigayana

But how do I get a Canadian phone number from here in Nigeria ?

Ikigayana:
A few of the hotels won't take money from the credit card until you show up. The cheapest hotel is Quality Suites but it's often fully booked except your travel date is way ahead.

What you should look for is the one that will refund you at least a night. Your best bet is Towneplace Suites as they often refund one night.

Before you travel, pre-register for Switch Health, if not you go queue eh to do your covid entry test. Just Google Switch Health and create a profile on their website. I think it requires a Canadian phone number.

At the Lagos airport, just staple your data page covid test, ArriveCan and Hotel booking together so that those checking documents won't stress you

Hello guys,

Does anyone know which of the Canadian government approved hotels allows people to make a reservation without putting my card details, and can pay in cash when I arrive ?

The reason why I am asking this question is because I am fully vaccinated. I got the second dose on June 18th. So I just want to have the hotel booking in case of incasity, as I may not need to stay in the hotel at all.

Hello guys,

For those that travelled to Canada recently, how did you change your naira to USD before travelling. I have tried the personal travelling allowance route but almost all the banks have return ticket as a requirement. I am going as a student hence I booked one way trip as I have no idea when I will be returning.

Is anyone aware of any alternative asides Bureau de change/Aboki ?

Ohhh, my ticket is one way, no return ticket cus I am going as an international student.

That means I do not qualify for PTA right ?

OnyiJust:
- Your International passport with your valid visa within
- Copy of your return ticket (It MUST be a return ticket. PTA is not given for one-way ticket).
- Your trip should be within fourteen days of your request for PTA. I suggest you apply for it on the 14th day to the date of your trip so that if there is any delay, it won't be so close to the date of your trip.

Hello Guys,

As an international student just going to Canada, what's the best way to pay for things with the $100 monthly restrictions on Mastercards ?

For example, the hotel qurantine which is the first 3 days after you land, the average cost is about $900, what is the easiest way someone can pay for this ?

Barter is not an option because their exchange rate is ridiculous.

I am just trying to figure out the easiest way to make payment from a Nigerian bank account.

Also, does anybody know a legitimate place in Lagos where someone can change physical cash to CAD or USD ?
TravelRe: Living In Canada/Life As A Canadian Immigrant Part 2 by Alchemist01: 5:05pm On Jun 15, 2021
Hello @Zodiacwarrior

Thanks for the response.

This is the first time I am hearing about this. Yes, I have been given my visa.

Do you mean I can just walk into any bank, show them my visa and they will help me change 4000USD at normal bank rate ?

Zodiacwarrior:
Good day @Alchemist01

If you have been given your visa you are entitled to buy 4000usd from the bank at normal rate and they stamp it to your passport you can either choose to collect cash or have it deposited to your dorm account.

Hope this helps.

Hello Guys,

What do you think about getting a room in a basement apartment in Oshawa that is 40 mins away from Ontario Tech and cost $600 CAD per month?

I am a bit sceptical that the entire apartment is in a basement coupled with the fact that transportation will be an extra cost.

What do you guys think ? as I don't have much options when it comes to accomodation.
