sirhamilton: Visa approved today at Walter Carrington. Appointment time was 8am I left my zero star hotel by 5am, got to the embassy by past 6. Fast forward to the interview. I was interviewed by the bearded (nice) guy in window 1. The man he interviewed before me came with what looked like a map. The dude practically did a presentation, I wasn't surprised his visa approved. My transcript proper Vo: Good morning Me: good morning, how are you today? ( he responds accordingly) Vo: why did you choose this school? Me: I chose Esu because it offers a combination of both microbial and Cellular Biology as a concentration, which is my primary area of interest in Biology ( vo cuts in) Vo:Why this course? Me:My ultimate career goal is to become a lecturer, so having acquired practical job experience in this field at my present place of work, I want to pursue a Masters degree in this course so as to afford me the needed knowledge and relevant research skills which would ensure I succeed as a lecturer Vo: do you have a background in Biology? ME: yea, I studied medical microbiology in my undergraduate Vo: define microbiology ME : Mcb is a branch of Biology that studies microorganisms and their relationship with their environment ( I was aware this wasn't a standard definition, but it was the best I could do to prevent me from stammering or keeping quiet). (Funny thing is that during my responses I realized I had a Guardiola in me; I was gesticulating. I was surprised myself too. In between questions I would ask myself "hope I don't appear desperate?" Vo: tell me something about Biology, Differentiate between bacteria and virus Me: Still boning but doing Jurgen klopp celebration in my mind I responded thus. A virus is an organism that can only replicate when inside a host. They are classified as being obligate intracellular parasites, simply put, they can only reproduce whilst inside a host. But bacteria only need a suitable environment to thrive, when I say suitable I Mean conducive temperature, nutrient availability, ( vo cuts in) Vo: did you apply to any other schools? Me: yea( he asks me to list them) Alabama A&M, Northern Illinois University. Vo: how many accept? Me: Alabama A&m VO: Who's paying for your flight Me: My mum Vo: what does she do? Me: sells jewelries and clothes... I forgot to mention where her shops are located. I was tempted to do so. But by now he was typing away so I chiled Vo: (while typing) are you married? Me : no Vo: any kids? Me for my mind I was like but oga I never Marry na.) I responded "No" Vo: ever left the country? Me: no... Then I saw him pull my passport closer to him and reached for the white paper. The normal pick up your passport at the circled location. I wished him a merry Christmas, he responded. I must say the guy was quite easy to talk to. NB : I couldn't thank some guys Here enough if I wanted to, anyone ever been so kind and helpful you keep asking yourself why they being that way? icool, oluezekiel
MR4.00GPA, Twoods, Alexandersheriff NB : know your course and don't memorize your answers, that way even if you become tensed you can't forget, it's just going to come out different but still same message. Like oluezekiel and Alexandersheriff kept hammering into me .Dont panic! It's just a conversation with another human being. Congratulations God bless your new journey Am so glad broo Congratulations once again |

Eanionz: GLORY BE TO GOD. He is a faithful God. my Visa was approved on the 7th of November, 2017@ lagos Embassy, 6:30am Visa appointment . I appreciate the inestimable effort made by bigfrancis21 in reviewing my transcript before the interview V.O Good morning, smile ME Good morning sir, smile too V.O Can I have your passport ME Yes, here you go V.O And form em.... form I -20 ME: Yes, I quickly passed it
V.O Where are you going in the US ME WSU Dayton, Ohio, for my masters degree program in Electrical and Electrical Engineering with specialization in power systems. V.O Started typing for over 30 seconds V.O Why that school ME Because WSU is well known for its excellent research programs especially in Electrical and Electronic Engineering field. I will also have the opportunity to do my research work under prof. marian k. kazimierczuk whose present research interest in renewable energy tallies with my intended research topic. I have contacted him and he was very happy with my CV and GRE score.
V.O What type of renewable energy ME solar energy. you know Nigeria is the most populous Africa Country and blessed with sunlight in excess, yet Nigeria is posed with great challenge on how to fulfil its energy demand to her citizens due to lack of practical skills. That's why I'm going to WSU to gather the necessary practical skills to utilise the available solar potentials. My plan is to return to Nigeria upon successful completion of my graduate studies and embark on rural solar electrification in partnership with government like Enugu state rural electrification board, Anambra state rural electrification board etc and nongovernmental organisations like Alliance for rural development of Nigeria etc whereby solar modules will be installed for individuals in the communities at zero upfront cost , after which they will be charged for energy consumed monthly. By doing this, it will remove the initial installation cost factor that has hindered people in the communities from appreciating the prospects in off grid renewable energy supply.
V.O how often do people use solar energy in Nigeria ME Nigerians use solar Energy very well but popularly in cities but my target is in the rural areas. V.O Where do you work My dad's Company.......... an Electrical Engineering company ,as a field Engineer V.O You work in your father's business ME yes sir V.O Who is your sponsor ME My dad V.O he started typing for over one minute, stopped, circled my collection centre in the white paper and said congratulations, your visa has been approved.............. ME Thank you sir ALL GLORY TO MY FAITHFUL GOD! Thank you BIGFRANCIS21 and Nairaland family Just know everything about the course you want to study. All the best my people!!! Congratulations God bless your new journey |

jelmusboy: Hello house, I recently stumbled on this page while looking for info about studying for PhD in USA.
I need advice on what I can go for.
EDUCATION
Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Science - LAUTECH (2:2)
MSc in Environmental and Public Health in the UK (Distinction and best graduating student)
Publications: Five and two in indexed journal (PubMed)
Three years work experience in Nigeria and just started working in the UK as a Biomedical Scientist.
I'm interested in PhD in Infectious Diseases. Yale, Pittsburgh, Harvard, John Hopkins, Minnesota are the universities have seen so far offering this course.
Considering the fact that these universities are highly competitive, does anyone know universities offering this course or have an idea of how I can dig deep to get more less competitive universities offering this course.
Also, I'm yet to take the GRE. Do you know of any university that does not require GRE?
Lastly, any positive advice will be highly appreciated. .... Wch type of infectious diseases do u want to specialize on....m also a ladokite...I read clinical biochemistry... |
