wiegraf: So, are you saying it's completely wrong? That's false
Are you saying it's incomplete? That's nothing new
Are you saying the details need work? Again, nothing new.

And note, until a TOE is found, quite a few physical theories will remain incomplete in one form or the other. Like this one and general relativity, they don't exactly explain everything, nor are they meant to

As for your quibbles,
80 million years is not that much when we're talking 14 billion years. Noteworthy, but not that much
Do you expect them to ignore the obvious effects of dark energy? It's called 'dark' energy precisely because no one knows what it is for sure. All that is known for sure is it exists. Accounting for it might even require a TOE
What's wrong with expansion? Are you implying it's not taking place despite all the evidence to the contrary?

Not knowing the exact size of the universe is indeed an issue, among other things, but claiming it's completely wrong because of these issues would be wrong as well. Especially after it's making predictions that have been verified, like cosmic background radiation. This isn't, say, string theory, which hasn't made any testable predictions.

Iirc, you have no problems with multi-verse theories, which have absolutely no physical backup mind you, but you have a problem with this? That's your prerogative of course, ie, having issues with the BB and potentially supporting other theories, but claiming it makes no sense is incorrect.
I am saying it is a guesswork, so could it be completely wrong? YES!
As I said before in my imaginary example in the op, people in another planet observing the flight of big birds on earth years ago, might, because there are no flying animals on their own planet, just conclude scientifically, that earth's gravity is too low for things to stay on the ground. If somebody puts to doubt their lack of gravity explanation, they will just start asking the questions you are asking: So, are you saying theory of gravity is completely wrong? Are you saying it's incomplete? That's nothing new. Are you saying the details need work? Again, nothing new. They might even invent a dark matter to explain away the flying animals.
This is exactly what we are doing with the BBT. It doesn't make sense and we are inventing explanations for it to make sense. We are observing events and making conclusions based on these events and the measurable characteristics and physical laws of our own world even though these might be different from the laws governing other parts of the universe.

As for the 80 million years, I know it is not a big percentage but it shows uncertainty. Infact the previous day, they announced 50 million years, then revised it. And it is not definite. They can annouce more billions of years in the coming years as they try and wriggle their way out of the problems posed by their theory. This is the one thing about lies: you need to tell other lies to cover the previous ones. But after a time you stop making sense. Ask religious people.

In all spheres of science, even in the guesswork sector, if I tell you that I know where and when something started and I know the rate and speed of acceleration and direction of movement, you could reasonable expect me to calculate the position of the said object at any moment. This simple calculation befuddles the Big Bang theorists. And you call it just an issue. It is more than that my friend. It is stark incompetence. It is being found out with the hand in the cookie jar. It is as senseless as a tortured jew dying on a tree because I enjoy life. It's meaningless.
And the "predictions" are still guessworks that can be explained by other theories. Scientists are now discovering what they call "anomalies" in the data provided by oberving cosmic background radiation when compared to the big bang theory. http://arxiv.org/abs/astro-ph/0403353

Yes, you are right, I think multiverse makes a lot of sense because of expansion. Don't get confused. Expansion does not confirm BB, mind you. It's just another observation. Multiverse answers more questions than the big bang does. It might explain what the universe is expanding into amongs others. Don't get me wrong. I'm neither supporting nor crusading against any theory. All I'm saying is that some make sense while others don't.

Reyginus: ooman, are we quarrelling? You know you are my friend. I'm only playing with you.
Time to focus on thread. Let's get serious
First of all, I don't think the big bang theory makes enough scientific sense.
If we are to compare the first law of thermodynamics and the expansion and evolution of our universe from a singularity, energy is created which can never be. Except we are to define the expansion of the singularity as a transformation of energy. That itself will contradict 'singularity', as that will assume a plurarity, defeating the already established.
It would be very helpful to put your arguments in a way that people here would understand.

wiegraf: Op, not sure what your point is. Are you saying the big ba.ng is incomplete? That isn't exactly new news
I'm saying that it makes no sense. It explains nothing that can't be explained by other theories. It creates more problems and confusion than it resolves.

Even if we ignore all its inadequacies, its fundamental fails woefully in calculating the exact size of the universe, which it could easily do if it were right in any way.

But it makes perfect sense to my chinese friend.

This is what I mean. To a non-chinese "JeSoul是同性戀" makes no sense. To a non-theist, "Jesus is the son the livng God" makes no sense. It doesn't therefore matter whether they are lies or not.

Coming from an atheist, this view might surprise some people but after studying this subject hard and giving it due consideration and comparing it with some religious doctrines, I have arrived at the conclusion that this theory is just a rubbish made up to explain some observations (as the religious made up God) but which, like God, fails woefully when probed further.

There are many holes in this theory. Even though it expalins a lot of things, actually contradicts itself.

Just last month, the most ardous proponents of the big bang as the ultimate explanation admited that they were mistaken by more than 80 million years. http://www.todayonline.com/daily-focus/science/universe-ages-80-million-years-big-bang-gets-clearer

80 million years! Think about it. The so called scientific community swept this under the carpet and said the fundamentals didn't change. Give me a break.

Let's look at the theory proper. Many scientists found problems with this Big Bang nonsense but the proponents, instead of using science, took a leaf from religion and invented something that explains away every problem: cosmic inflation!

Ask them to calculate the size of the universe if they know the beginning and the rate of acceleration, and they look like monkeys in a headlamp.

"You don't believe cosmic inflation, hey, here's dark matter." What is dark matter? Wait for it. "It is that which cannot be seen, be felt, or be heard, but we believe it is there because it makes sense for it to be there." Sounds familiar?

I believe in the ability of science to solve problems but I cannot accept blatant nonsense just because it comes from people with vested authorities.

Imagine this: A few million years ago, scientists in a far planet looking at earth and observing huge birds floating around the sky would conclude that there was not enough gravitational pull on earth to make things stick on the ground. So forget deduction through observation without all the facts.

Logicboy03: "true atheists"? You channeling Frosbel or something?

I dont care about the meaning of those phrases, what I do care about is the fct that I'm forced to lie due to the religious nature of Nigeria
It is not a lie if it is meaningless.

Is "my wonder butterfly is cricket snow" a lie?
Christianity Etc › Re: Abdulsleek Is Now A Christian? Atheists And Lying That They Are Christians...... by alfaman2: 12:14pm On Apr 13, 2013
The best thing about being an atheist is the lack of belief. True atheists don't believe anything so they say anything they want depending on the circumstances as long as the end is a satisfactory outcome. To a real atheist, the phrase "I believe in jesus, the son of the living god" means exactly the same thing as "I believe in the great power of Satan", or "I worship the boiling flying spaghetti, the only one that can save my soul", or "The Central Square art is circular", etc. They are all meaningless statements about imaginations to a real atheist and if you fell different from saying any of them, then you need to question your atheism.

obadiah777: HOW IT IS POSSIBLE TO FOLLOW CHRIST WITHOUT FOLLOWING HIS WORDS ? VERY SIMPLE. HE LIKED TO DRINK WINE. HE WAS CONSIDERED A WINE BIBBER. AND HE HAS BEEN KNOWN TO GO INTO TEMPLES WITH KOBOKO LASHING FOLKS. NOW I COULD DECIDE THAT I AM GOING TO DRINK LOTS OF WINE WHILE LASHING FOLKS IN CHURCH WITH KOBOKO. THAT WOULD BE FOLLOWING CHRIST WITHOUT FOLLOWING HIS WORDS. THATS A CRUDE EXAMPLE BUT HEY YOU GET THE POINT grin

Why do you say that Jizz-Us died for your sins? This is impossible because you were not existing when he was tortured and murdered by soldiers.

The worst problem is that if he actually did die for the my sins, then he died in vain because I am still sinning and loving every moment of my sinful life. What type of god kills himself just to prove that he was as useless as suspected.

Where would the follow follow stop?

I think Paul meant follow his words as he follows those of Christ.

I think Obadiah has a point.

dougivilla: Pls do not be deceived, no life is pre destined. God has created everyone with equal chances of success and/or failure. Your choices, inactions and actions determine where you end up.

While it is true that God has access to both the begining and end, He very very rarely influences the end of any man. Keep being prayerful and living above board. God's grace will see us all through as we work out our salvation with fear and trembling and prepare to meet our God face to face in Heaven.

The discussion on the destination of the mentally challenged does not impart anything meaningful to our lives, please Lets leave that issue to God to judge; at least nobody contested the fact that God is a just judge throughout this thread. He has a standard. As high as the heavens are from the earth, so are His standard and ways from ours. We should be more concerned about the safety of our own souls.

For those who have given up on being counted amongst the saints on that fateful day, surrendering heaven to the 'elect' and have choosen to inherit the earth and everything we leave behind while we are raptured to meet our God, we wish them the best in this pursuit and keep praying that God will have mercy upon them and reveal His truth to them.

Jesus will come soon. Let him that taketh his stand take heed. In the last days many will come preaching apostacy and heresy, quoting scriptures. Remember that even the Devil quoted the scriptures to deceive Jesus, while tempting Him. These strategies are not new. Pls hold fast to that which you have lest it will be taken from you deceitfully.

God bless you all and I pray and desire to see you on the last day in the kingdom of our God and father and His son Jesus in Heaven.

None of us shall be missing in Jesus name.
See the fruit of brainwashing. People speaking nonsense that makes sense to other brainwashed peeps. The worst is that some actually believe these nonsenses.
