Hello, pls can you tell me more about skilled trade? Do you have experience in any skilled trade now? Are you certified here in Nigeria or you will go into it when you land in canny? How can one start working towards it with zero experience esp in plumbing or welding... Thank you.

I'm a construction supervisor and so have basic knowledge in a few trades especially construction related- carpentry, welding, painting, tiling, masonry, plumbing and electrical but not deep enough to be called a tradesperson. I intend penetrating their construction industry there via a skilled trade as they are well paid and I enjoy working with my hands. Construction Manager is my eventual destination but I'll love to savor the journey. The best pathway into the trades is through apprenticeship as it offers the opportunity to earn (higher than national average salary) while learning. You may want to do a little more research yourself to make an informed decision. Canada is experiencing a shortage of skilled trades at the moment and I foresee the trend continuing for a little while. I have a Master's but don't mind starting afresh and getting my hands a little dirty. Nigerians don't really seem to want to tow that line; I wonder why.
Anyway all the best in your/our Canadian journey.
Cheers.

It's PPR!!!!! This journey that started last year has come to an end with victory!!!

Started with IELTS February 2016 and then waited till I was done with msc in order to evaluate with WES. Done with WES September. Dear husband who's the PA had to write another IELTS in December cos we were trying to increase our CRS scores. Writing was 6.5 so didn't cut it. He wrote a third IELTS in February and again, writing was 6.5. We were getting depressed at this point so we requested for a remark and registered for a forth ielts. Remark came through in four weeks and writing was increased to 7.5!!

ITA came in April next day after ielts remark so my timeline :

AOR - April 30th
Medicals passed - June 21
Ip1 - June 22
Ip2- July 19
PPR - July 24th

Sorry for the long post guys but for those still stuck in this IELTS hurdle, pls don't give up and don't relent. Just keep pressing on and you shall smile at the end.

Sleep ke? Adrenaline at work.
A big congratulations to you and the family. I'm sure ur passports are already inside envelope en-route for stamping.
I tap into that your remark speed- 4 weeks. All the best wishes in your Canadian dream.

Dont worry, u cant afford to be discouraged. I also felt the same way but truth is, take time and check why u keep getting 6.5 in your Reading. you may need to practice each section well, especially the T, F and NG type of questions. Lots of people miss it there...but u'll be fine. Just a little push, and you're there.

Remember, nothing good comes easy
Thanks I appreciate.

Sorry about that. You were very close!

Please keep pushing as you indicated @bolded. Victory is around the corner!

BTW, have you thought about applying for a remark? I think you should consider it if you are confident about what you did.

That doesn't stop you from booking for another test though, IMO....

Amen and Thanks.

Oh dear! What are you going to do now? It's reading and comprehension ( I'm suspecting those T, F &NG questions)
Will you do it 1 more time or go PNP route.?
Pele my brother. It is well.

I have to retake it.
I'll enter the pool meanwhile with the 1st result (with PNP in mind), remark the 2nd and register for another test.
It was those yeye T,F, NG and Matching Heading questions o.
Trying to save time, I had left 2 stubborn questions unanswered, planning to return after but still ran out of time before I could go back. Just as I wanted to guess and put something down, the invigilator, who was close by, stopped us and started looking in my direction. I was caught between either obeying the rules OR putting down something (with whatever consequences to follow) but unfortunately the 'good boy' inside me prevailed. It was very painful considering it was this same Reading that made me retake in d 1st place. My hands were literally on my head as they collected my answer sheet. I was demoralized and just managed to pull through the Writing section. In fact, one voice inside me said there was no need continuing with the test. I just taya!
With that I knew I had goofed but was expecting I wouldn't get more than another 4 answers wrong. Unfortunately, BC thinks otherwise.

Finally guys, I got my IELTS results at BC office today and unfortunately nothing to celebrate at all after 2 attempts. I'm really really deflated right now but I'll keep pushing.

1st Attempt 3/11/16: LRSW 8.5, 6.5, 8.5, 7.5
2nd Attempt 8/07/17: LRSW 8, 6.5, 8, 7.5

Well done guys.
Please I intend getting into the skilled trades- plumber or electrician precisely. Looking through job sites, I see more openings in Ontario and Quebec than in other provinces. However, I still hear more arguments in favour of settling for Alberta than Ontario.
Please seniors, what are the prospects in construction/trades in both Provinces?

My brother has a similar case to yours. But he got 6.5 in reading. Please guys, if he applies for remarking, would it be possible for them to remark it?
Thank you.

My bro/sis, please let ur brother request a remark sharply. There's no harm in trying. A 1% chance is still a chance. I didn't apply for remark when I had LRSW 8.5, 6.5, 8.5, 7.5 and I deeply regret it because I felt it was a waste of time to remark Reading.

Thanks for your post. I wish I had the information on IQAS and law degree from Nigeria, I would have used my wife as the principal applicant, since she has a law degree and is much younger too (did her ECA with WES). Anyways, I got NOI from ONTARIO and my application is at Decision in Progress since 20th of July and my question is - How long does it take from Decision in Progress to Approval?
Thanks for your feedback.

From my observations, Ontario Nomination usually takes between 10-30 days after submitting application. From ur status of DIP, expect ur nomination within days or max a week plus.

Thanks for your reply @Ehrnie.

One more question though, My wife's brother recently got married to his fiancee(she lives in Canada, came to Nigeria for the wedding) that I believe is a PR or Citizen, do you think this counts for additional points for us in the EE pool where it was asked if we have any family living in Canada? My wife is the primary applicant and our estimated CRS score is below 400. Thanks for your time.

Yes to ur question if indeed your wife's in-law is PR or Citizen. It applies to sibling or sibling in-law of either the PA or accompanying spouse.
Cheers

I believe British Council (Lagos office) issues IELTS results on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays between 8am and 12 noon. ( I am not very sure about this.)

Before going on Tuesday, I suggest you should confirm that you would be attended to.

Thanks guys, I appreciate.
I did my IELTS in Abuja and I intend 'storming' their office here on Monday whether they attend to people or not. Anything short of getting my result, they will hear long sermon that day. I heard they notify via email if they intend to hold ur result for extra checks which they randomly do. Up until now, no result, no email, nothing. That test has taken away abt 4-5 nights of sleep from my eyes so far not to mention 1 or 2 bad dreams because I know I ran out of time the Reading aspect, leaving 2 questions unanswered when my answer sheet was collected. In addition, it was my 2nd attempt. I'm trying to be calm but e no easy mehn.
Anyway... whoever is chooking hand in this matter will hear from God loud and clear.

Compare your actual date of birth with the one written in the exam email from British Council for discrepancies
Confirm candidate number in the email, ensure that its the number zero (0) not letter O that you are typing.
Do same with passport number.

It's possible you are typing number 0 instead of letter O or it is possible IELTS registered one of your details using letter O instead of number 0.

Compare all these and try again.

All the best

Thanks but I've done all that already.

I am retracting part of the quoted post. N10,000 is indeed to be paid for verification!

My status unbelievably changed back to waiting for verification, I waited for about three days to see the wonders happening if it was some sort of glitch or whatever. About the 4th day, I sent a mail to WES to please clarify if LASU had responded as my status had earlier changed from waiting for verification to documents received and now back to waiting for verification. 2 days later WES replied saying they are awaiting verification and the evaluation will be completed as soon as they get a favorable response from LASU.

I gave another week to see if LASU would respond. After watching status remain same for the whole week, it became apparent a visit to Lasu is necessary so I went today. Lasu in her wise thinking sent WES a pay advice that I have to pay 10,000 before they respond. (a payment to be made by me was communicated to WES!).

What needs to be done for LASU applicants; as soon as you get a status change to awaiting verification, proceed to pay N10,000 at Sterling Bank in school - account name and number to pay to is in the banking hall tapped to the writing platform, go convert the bank teller to official receipt at Block 2 Room 11 (note, you'd be asked to write your name and purpose of payment at the back of the bank teller), then take the official receipt to Exams and Record (ICT building), there the receipt will be stapled to your documents sent from WES and verification response subsequently processed.

Thanks and noted.

U r very much in prime position to succeed in d express-entry program. Just evaluate ur degree wit WES n make sure u hit 8777 in IELTS and u will get a gud CRS score. Meanwhile pls read page 0 here and CIC website to digest Wat d process entails. Good luck

*Modified*

Based on d parameters u supplied n assuming you hit d suggested ielts scores, single n have no relation in Canada, ur possible CRS score is 462 (guaranteed ITA)

Just to add: 8777 in IELTS simply means Band 8 in Listening and Band 7 in Reading, Writing and Speaking respectively. Aim for that score as ur minimum.

Hi all,

I am new here. I came here through the link posted by @osemigho on the Canadian Student Visa thread based on my case. I need ur opinion if I truly qualify for and express entry or any form of entry into canada. I have a BSc in International Law and Diplomacy from Nigeria, LLB from the UK and An LLM from the UK as well.I just recently graduated this year and do not have a professional working experience. I am not called to bar in any country and I have not done NYSC.

What do you think house? Plsssssssssssss I need your opinions.

Thank you for ur time in advance.

Regards.
You need to have at least 1 year work experience to be eligible. It doesn't necessarily have to be in your line of study, as long as it falls under the Canadian job classification 0, A or B.
Cheers.

If i may what's the meaning of provincial nomination?[/quote

Provincial Nomination is a program where a Canadian Province nominates you for permanent resident visa. It results in extra 600 points for you in the Express Entry pool to meet the cut off to be invited to apply for permanent resident visa. I suggest you read up on Express Entry and Provincial Nomination and be familiar with the processes involved.

At 424, shouldn't I just take this NOI from Ontario and run? Is there hope for ITA? sad

No need to hurry and take it with 424 points considering the $1500 CAD involved and that NOI is now valid for 60 days I guess. Wait till it's almost few days to expire before taking it, that's if you're still not invited to apply. You may just be abt 3 or 4 draws away from direct ITA and it's worth the wait. But if u have plenny cash to splash, just go ahead.

Good day everyone. I got married to a Canadian resident and he his planning to sponsor me to Canada has his wife. All the documents required for this application is ready and am aware that the processing time is 1year. I just want to know if anyone had a successful application wish lead to getting a permanent resident card in Canada and how long before cic gave them visa? Did anyone had to wait for a year?

You can decide to take the spouse sponsorship route or the EE route to PR. I read on CIC website that candidates with Canadian Citizen or PR spouse who choose to use EE will have their application assessed the same way as a single applicant. Their points will be based on the single applicant case, that is Age will be 110 max, Education 150 max etc.
My 2 Kobo, look at whichever suits u better and faster so u can join ur spouse.

dat gave me a score of 381 in d pool.

In a bid to get extra 50 for skill transferability and around 10 extra mark in language to boost my score to 441, I made a second attempt targeting LSRW-8,7,7,7 but was disappointed to get LSRW-7.5,7.5,6.5,7.

Now I'm doing d 3rd exam and targeting 8,8,8,8. I did d speaking part about 2 hours ago and it was fantastic. I will b doing d others on Saturday. Pls remember in your prayers if u r reading dis. Michelllo, thanks for your input. Lasu has responded to the verification! I checked profile this morning and noticed a status change - now "Documents received, review in progress".

For future Lasu applicants, In my opinion using my request as reference, you actually don't need to visit the school to follow up your transcript request and verification response. Transcript got to WES three weeks from request day while verification response got acknowledged within two weeks. I never got to the school nor called anyone.

I'm quiet impressed with Lasu.

Shalom.
Thanks for the info. I plan to assess my wife's BSc from LASU but need a little clarification.
1. How did you get your WES transcript request form to LASU without visiting?
2. Can she use her notification of result?
3. How much in total did it cost you? I know LASU uses an online portal and charges N4k for transcript. Did you pay any additional fees for courier?
Cheers!

Don't panic bro. Truth is that IELTS Listening on YouTube is harder than the real test because of the need to look at the screen and then on paper to answer. From my experience, the highest I scored on YouTube was 33/40 (7.5) but scored 8.5 in the real test last November. I generally found the real test easier and didn't even remember missing anything but my Reading spoiled my result. I'm retaking this month anyway.
I think it's better to practice with YouTube and hope to have it easier in real test. Good luck!
