Politics / Re: Who developed Lagos Ports: Myth Busted. by AlhajaChinyere: 12:57am On May 19, 2020
Maadoo:

I even thought you were smart. In trying to dismiss the effort of those developing Lagos, you also didn't or couldn't prove that yorubas developed Lagos.

Who were the ruling elites before independence at the federal level and in Lagos? The colonial masters. Hence they employed the manpower from all tribes to which igbos were heavily represented. Resources were contribute by all region to the federal purse, and of-course, Lagos was the capital of Nigeria and as a British colony, enjoyed unlimited developmental attention.

Even at that, In 1954, there was no lekki, there was no Gbagada, there was no Ajao estate, there was no Ajah, there was no Amuwo odofin, there was no Ago palace way, there was no gowon estate, there was no Buckner in Okota. There are so many places that were never in existence in 1913 but exist now. Was it the white man that developed it? The Lagos the white man left at independence is not the same as what it is today except you mean, Lagos hasn’t change since the Whitman left. The real developers of Lagos aside government projects, are the individual real estate developer, converting slums, farmland and settlements to prime real estate quaters, either for commercial or residential use. The industrialist, company Onwers, market man and women keeping the economy running and of course oil money from niger delta oiling there pocket of the government, which it uses to support for roads, water, electricity Development and other amenities.

Nigeria had her independence in 1960 and oil boom started in 1970. Cocoa money only developed Ibadan. Third mainland bridge was oil money, cocoa money started OAU in ibadan before moving to its permanent site in Ile ife with A single building serving as the vice chancellors building but now converted to faculty of agriculture. That was the only building constructed with cocoa money. The rest was oil money. 3rd mainland bridge is oil money.

The East was controlled by the Eastern tribes with Enugu as it’s capital, West by majorly the yorubas with Ibadan as it’s capital. The same way igbos migrated to Lagos is the same way majority yorubas migrated to Lagos.

If you want to talk of Yoruba development. Talk of Ibadan and stop trying to steal or downplay other people’s effort.

Ibadan is your shame, deal with it .

TRASH!!!!!!!

Those are modern attires, not the original vintage cultural fashion. Can someone show me a vintage attire that original old Igbo women wore in the past?
If you want South south to be in Biafra, it's good except that, it's a waste of time trying hard to attach things we already know are totally different, especially this comparison is childish and funny. South south has it's own distinct tribes with their different unique cultures. We can group Delta and Edo together, we can also group Akwa Ibom and Calabar together.

Then for the records, Yoruba women have the biggest collection of variety of fashion in Africa. They have different dress styles depending on era and ethnicity. I only think the variety is starting to reduce lately, it's these oyinbos ruining our culture. Yoruba women in the past used to have variety of fashion. Below are Yoruba women wearing unmatching Wrapper and Buba, when I look at my mum classic black and white pics, those women days were pure natural beauties, very gorgeous and virtuous too. Not like all these overfvcked makeup creatures we have today.
In short, Yoruba women's attire comprises above fashion and more but I think matching Iro and Buba has evolved into the popular modern fashion of Yoruba women, that's why other attires are no more popular.

Waa gba iyi!

All Biafran women dress alike. Anyone would have mistaken the Urhobo women for Ibos. Even yorubas would have called the Urhobo women Awon obirin Ibo ie Ibo women. Biafran culture is indeed very deep. Fact! grin

Virtually every aspect of Nigeria has been forcefully kept under the presidency, over 400 parastatals are under the presidency.

Giving governors a paltry sum of 3 - 4 billion naira monthly wont solve nigerias problems, each state should be allowed to own their natural resources n mine dem, that's the only way we can develop

Don't worry! Buhari will soon leave, then I can't wait to hear what you people will say. Nigeria is STRUCTURALLY defective and there are no easy remedies available.

Your sycophantic brain has made you so narrow-minded to actually believe there is no way forward other than population control (which is even far worse wishful thinking)... Even an idiot knows Buhari is unqualified to lead this nation... This is not bias sir. This is clear proven FACT!!!

Did China "reduce" their population before they started taking developmental steps to where they are today??! Are you more populated than America and India??!... What has population got to do with taking drastic steps towards industrialization, diversification, human capital development, and increased foreign investments??!...

Sigh... Why am I even wasting time with a head-slamming sycophant... Please, don't mention me again.

I don't blame you. GEJ upon his okirika Rivers state PHD was the worst (worstest, if there were such a word) president this country had the misfortune of having.

Tell Nigerian women to keep popping babies as they like. If care is not taken their children will start to starve to death right in their presence. The oil dollar we are wasting on importing food is running out fast!

The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step...

We have given this population excuse for decades now... Thing is, the population will merely keep growing, same as every other nation across the globe. We are not the most populous and certainly not the most economically stretched...

We keep talking diversification for decades now, with nothing being done... All we do is borrow to embezzle... The potential to grow and excel is clearly there, but we are too self centered to unite, vote in brains that will pilot the nation down the path of progress!!!... Under normal circumstances, Buhari has absolutely no business leading even a state of the federation, not to mention a massive challenging nation like this.

This nation needs brains to get all sectors functioning to full capacity... This is herculean, but not impossible! Look past the lies being peddled by your clueless leaders!!!

Your deep anti Buhari bias will never allow you to make sense. In any case everything you said up there is rubbish and wishy washy.
The population growth rate needs to be cut to zero if our industrial output remain at close to zero. After we can address other issues. Stop the number of mouths to be fed.

We came into this crisis with the excess crude account (ECA) at $70m from $2bn just 2 years ago, forex reserves falling to $38bn in January this year from $45bn in June last year, and a tripling of foreign-currency denominated debt from $9.5bn in 2015 to circa $27bn today. These have left us more vulnerable than we should have been as we ran down our 'savings' (ECA & forex reserves) at the same time we were tripling our outgoings (debt repayments).

Because Nigeria is dependent on oil exports for forex, any government, no matter how competent, will struggle. But Buhari's government increases the likelihood of financial distress due to its economic illiteracy.

It should have taken the opportunity of the 2015/16 forex shortage to float the exchange rate and abolish the implicit subsidy in maintaining multiple exchange rates, and abolish fuel and electricity subsidies. These would have preserved cash and ensure the scarce money available to the government is used in beefing up infrastructure, healthcare and education.

I understand the urge to borrow from abroad as it tends to carry lower interest but we shouldn't do this unless we have built up enough fiscal buffers in the form of savings and lower budget deficits.

Any person who follows the history of oil prices will realise that it is a volatile commodity prone to sudden crashes. Government spending and borrowing should always be managed with this in mind until we wean ourselves from dependence on oil.

And you think these are politically palatable decisions? Until every "rich" person in Nigeria is called to account I.e. Everybody to explain source of their wealth ........and Nigerians ready to consume what they produce....there is no end to the hunger and suffering!

Until we admit to ourselves that we are a poor country, we cannot get anywhere.

Even if we produced and sold 6 million barrels a day, we would still be very poor. As it's 70% our income source. Under 150 to 200 trillion Naira budget is inadequate. Comprehensive health care, Education, infrastructure (roads, water, electricity, railway, etc), welfare system, housing, Agric subsidy, recurrent expenditure/civil service, science & tech, defense, law enforcement/security, judiciary, political institutions, etc.

We should mellow and eat humble pie. Beginning with family planning/birth/population control. Otherwise we will just be producing more criminals and street urchins.

We need to get this message out to our women and all the stupid "marry, marry, marry" compliant men. We need a 10 year enforced moratorium on pregnancies and child bearing in this country. The country is catastrophically poor!

False.
The most developed countries that enforced low birth rate have been looking for foreigners to power their work force. Germany for instance has been bringing in migrants in massive millions from the middle east for the past 2 decades.

""we are clearly still not able to provide for them""

We are clearly not able to provide for 80 million people because Nigeria is a hopeless zoo nation. How can a nation of 80 million people generate only 2billion dollars in 1 month n budget 25 billion dollars in one year (25 billion dollars is less than south Africans education sector budget).
