SportsWilder Blames His Costume For His Defeat by alienvirus(op): 1:00pm On Feb 25, 2020
Deontay Wilder has been ridiculed after claiming the reason he lost his WBC heavyweight crown to Tyson Fury not because of the Brit's fearsome punching power but due to being exhausted from wearing a 45lb costume to the ring.

The American appeared a shadow of the fighter who has been one of the heavyweight boxing's most destructive forces in recent years, as the aggressive Fury dominated the fight from the opening bell with a gameplan which suffocated any momentum Wilder was able to engineer.

The fight appeared all but over in the third round when Fury landed a clubbing blow behind Wilder's left ear which sent him sprawling to the canvas. From that point on it appeared as if Wilder's legs were gone and the end, when it came, appeared to save him from further punishment.

However, in his first comments since the defeat Wilder blamed the reasoning for the loss not on the 58 significant strikes landed by Fury throughout the contest but on the black and gold armor he wore to the ring as a tribute to Black History Month.

Wilder has made a reputation for his colorful ring-walks but this time around he said that the costume, which comprised of armor, a mask and a crown, hindered him when the fight began.

"Fury didn't hurt me at all, but the simple fact is that my uniform was way too heavy for me," he said to Yahoo! Sports.

"I didn't have no legs from the beginning of the fight - in the third round, my legs were just shot all the way through. I was only able to put it on [for the first time] the night before but I didn't think it was going to be that heavy.

"It weighed 40 pounds with the helmet and all the batteries. I wanted my tribute to be great for Black History Month … and I guess I put that before anything."

That was an excuse, however, which did not hold water with many observers.

Wilder has indicated to The Athletic that he will trigger the rematch clause in his contract which will align a third fight between both men most likely later this year, which will shelve plans for a lucrative winner-takes-all heavyweight clash between Fury and Anthony Joshua.

Regardless of how it came about, Wilder is dissatisfied with not just the conclusion to Saturday's fight but the manner in which it came about. Mark Breeland, the man who threw the towel in before the end of the 7th round, isn't certain to return for any future fight - and Wilder made clear his reasoning for this.

"I'd rather die in the ring than have the towel thrown in," he said. "I'm a warrior."

PoliticsIran: US Military Says 11 Troops Injured & Flown Out Of Iraq For Medical Checks by alienvirus(op): 9:56am On Jan 17, 2020
US Central Command has revealed that 11 personnel stationed at an Iraqi airbase which incurred a retaliatory attack by Tehran earlier in January had to be sent out of the country after displaying concussion symptoms.

“While no US service members were killed in the January 8 Iranian attack on Al Asad airbase, several were treated for concussion symptoms from the blast and are still being assessed,” Navy Captain Bill Urban said in a statement on Thursday.

Upon initial examination, eight troops were flown out of the war-ravaged country to a medical facility in Germany for further checks, while three others were taken to Camp Arifjan, a US Army installation in Kuwait.

The temporary removal of the troops was taken “out of an abundance of caution,” Urban said, refusing to divulge any more details about the condition of the servicemen or the extent of their injuries.

“The health and welfare of our personnel is a top priority and we will not discuss any individual's medical status,” he said, noting that the servicemen are expected to return to duty following additional screening.

The base in Iraqi Kurdistan found itself under fire from two volleys of ballistic missiles launched from Iran after a US drone strike near Baghdad on January 3 killed Iranian Major General Qassem Soleimani, the elite Quds Force commander who played a major role in beating Islamic State terrorists in both Syria and Iraq. His assassination has inflamed tensions between Washington and Tehran, and drew a harsh rebuke from Baghdad, prompting the Iraqi Parliament to pass a resolution ordering US troops to leave the country.

Immediately after the attack by Iran, which was reported to have incurred extensive but pinpointed damage on the facility and resulted in no casualties, US President Donald Trump declared that “all is well,” with the Pentagon likewise saying that early warning systems at the base alerted the troops, who wasted no time in seeking shelter.

Foreign AffairsDamaging America's Machines Was Our Aim - Iranian Commander by alienvirus(op): 5:25pm On Jan 09, 2020
Iran’s assault on bases housing US troops in Iraq was intended to smash American military infrastructure rather than kill soldiers, an Iranian commander told state television. He promised further strikes in the region.

Iran launched a volley of ballistic missiles at two bases in Iraq in the early hours of Wednesday morning, bringing the two countries to the brink of war. However, no American or Iraqi casualties were sustained, and US President Donald Trump responded with economic sanctions instead of military action.

Speaking on Iranian state television on Thursday, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps’ (IRGC) aerospace commander, Amir Ali Hajizadeh, elaborated on the operation the previous day.

We didn't seek to kill. We sought to hit the enemy's military machine.

Hajizadeh added that expelling American troops from the Middle East would be “appropriate revenge” for the death of IRGC Major General Qassem Soleimani, who the US assassinated in a drone strike at Baghdad airport on Friday.

He said that the attack would be the start of a series of similar strikes across the region.

ALSO ON RT.COMSatellite images show MINOR but PINPOINT damage to US-Iraqi bases from Iranian missile attack, suggesting limited show of force

Trump thanked an “early warning system”for tipping the US military off about the incoming Iranian missiles on Wednesday morning, averting casualties at the bases. However, the Iraqi government confirmedthat it received advance warning of the strikes, enabling US troops to take precautionary measures and activate air defense systems. Nevertheless, the missiles struck with pinpoint accuracy, demonstrating the advancement of Tehran’s military technology in recent years.

Earlier in the day  IRGC commander Abdollah Araghi also said that Iran would take “harsher revenge soon,” without elaborating further.

Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani and Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei both stated that the Islamic Republic’s ultimate goal is the removal of US troops from the Middle East.

I still wonder why we are still answerable to Britain. Can't Nigerians decide their affairs without foreign intervention? Can any Nigerian think about how to colonize Britain and let us decide their matters? Then we can call it post-neocolonialism.

Food for thought.

What do you know?

I am so sure no US casualties. If any, US will hit Iran again.

It's a subtle game by IRAN to avoid war. Send missiles to two US bases, ensure there are no US casualties, so the US doesn't respond, then end it there. Check the threats from Iran now, if you respond, we will strike Dubai and a city in Isreal. What does that tell you?

PoliticsLASG To Commence Issuance Of License, Permit For Borehole Drilling In 2020. by alienvirus(op): 7:41pm On Dec 06, 2019
LASG to commence issuance of license, permit for borehole drilling in 2020.

Lagos State Water Regulatory Commission is to commence issuance of licenses and permits for water abstraction in the state by first quarter of 2020.

Addressing stakeholders in the water sector, the Executive Secretary of the Commission, Mrs. Funke Femi Adepoju revealed that the exercise which is to be launched by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu is to regulate the process of water abstraction in the State.

“What is paramount to government is how abstraction affects us as a people not just today but the future with emphases on pollution, contamination of water bodies, saline filtration into the system, over-abstraction and unregulated abstraction”, she stated.

Adepoju affirmed that licensing is a significant process in the regulation of any industry as the Commission is determined to ensure its availability and sustainability to prevent the effect on unregulated water abstraction.

While assuring that only registered companies captured in data will be issued a 2-year renewable license with unique and personalized number, the Executive Secretary explained that the Commission was not established for a punitive purpose, but rather to establish standard in the water extraction industry in order to ensure that the health and safety of citizens are not compromised.

According to her, the essence of the engagement is to improve the relationship between stakeholders and Government by developing ways to sanitize the industry, stressing that the Commission has acquired mobile water test kits which are to be used in testing samples during operation and that approval for the acquisition of a standard laboratory for water testing is on the way.

The meeting was attended by members of the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN), Nigeria Employers Consultative Association (NECA), Financial Institutions, Association of Table Water Producers (ATWAP) and Association of Water Well Drilling Rig Owners Operators among others.
