My brother, take control of their lifes is only as good as they see Nigeria. Although I still have some hope in Nigeria but at times when you read some comments that hope drops again, then you wonder !

I hope they wake up fast !

The sufferings of Musa, Tunde and Emeka are all the same. There is no difference. I hope they all understand
The ad thing is that the entire SOuth-South and South East hold on to very strong traditional values.

Have you seen the Ofala festival in Anambra State?! Have you seen the New yam celebrations?! Everything is in line with our traditions and customs.. You dont need to look out for light skinned beautiful girls and handsome men to know that this is an Igbo festival..

Look at the pictures on this thread... At first I thought someone was showing us pictures from brazil.. There is nothing Yoruba about those pictures..

Not even a single tribal mark on the faces of the participants which proves that they are Igbos or southerners.

Are Yoruba people ashamed of their culture?! Where is their talking drums? Where are the tribal marked men dancing out of tune and jumping up and down like deranged monkeys? Where are the Iyabos and Atinukes?! Out their faking oyinbo and speaking in an accent they got from their 1 week trip to the UK.
I thought they said you are alj harem ? if truely you are Alj harem, then I must be running mad sad sad sad

Goddex: Lagos used to do EYO festival.
The costumes and other activities I see
here are a direct photocopy of the Calabar Carnival.
I still urge every Nigerian state to identify an
area it has comparative advantage over others and build on it.
What, it shows you know nothing about Lagos.

Yes we do a lot of festival which Eyo is part of. The brazilain part of Lagos deserve representation as well or don't they ?

Again tell me the significance of this festival in Calabar ?

For Lagos it is representation just like the Igbos and other have theirs

^^^^^^^

Ewu meee Dele, keep trying to rubbish you superior. Ken Saro Wiwa would forever be held higher than Ojukwu in the minds of an average Nigerian anyday anytime. No matter how much you try to bastardise his legacy just as your fellow Igbo goons did to Awolowo. His struggle speaks for it's self. His achievement to bring Ogoni to the lime-light of Nigeria and indeed the world is there for us to see.

I am not even dragging this one

Here is Ken's protest reaching the US, which protest in Nigeria got to that extent during the time of low media coverage ?

cindylee: But the black slaves were the ones who settled in Lagos, meaning they originally got their culture from Africa, Lagos or Yoruba anyone you want to pick from. I am not against borrowing some way of life from others but I just feel if its going to be a cultural stuff in Lagos, it should showcase more of our indigeneous culture. Someone looking at those pictures might think it was done in Brazil or one other caribean countries. I like the pictures showing eyo festival, in short I love it. That is what I would call indigeneous so that someone seeing the picture for the first time knows that it is Nigeria. Lagos to be precise.

I am not only talking about the Lagos carnival, I am talking about the cross river, rivers and all the like that tend to show brazilian carnivals. I hope you get the point I am trying to pass across. Instead of adding more and more carnivals, can't we re-organise the festivals we already have and make them more colourful and attractive instead of coming up with imitations?

Growing up in Delta state, there is this "omaluku" festival that we as kids usually go for, right now it is almost good as dead. That is just an example, those ones could be re-engineered and you would see costumes that will beat all these brazilian/caribean look alike. Anyway, before I am termed an hater, I love the pictures and the idea, but I just want to see something more original and indigeneous. Thank you
I see what you mean

Goddex: Copy Copy.
All states now want to do Carnival.
Why not leave Carnival for Calabar and concentrate
on another area of comparative advantage?

Lagos don't need Carnival, if you ask me.
Copy ? If I am aware canival started in Lagos as far as Nigeria is concerned

Moreover why is calabar having a brazilain festival ? Any cultural connection ? Yes or No

@ Those complaining about toll.

It is very sad of you to do so. A toll gate can ALWAYS be removed from the road but the road would still be there even after hundreds of years.

Lets give credit when due, Toll gate could be removed in the next administration anyway or even by a minor protest but the 10-lane road would still be there.

Lets encourage these sort of development.

Errmmmmm wrong ma, When brazilains adopt our culture (Yoruba) we did not complain, what is wrong in adopting theirs as well.

Cultures change very day, that is the way life is

Also we have a significant population of Brazilians in Lagos as Indigenes, thus it is show casting their culture as well.

PoliticsRe: The Correct History Of Edo? by aljharem(m): 12:30am On May 10, 2012
PhysicsQED: Just for the record, "epha" is NOT derivative of what the Yoruba call "ifa", rather they share the same source. The same system is known by a virtual legion of ethnic groups by various related names. The notion of some sort of ethnic exclusivity is modern academic mythology.
Haba PhysicsQED, this one na mistake on your part. I got this from Urhobo website

https://www.waado.org/cgi-bin/Nabofa/Images/Epha-Apparatus.jpg

"Many communities of the world have a tradition that involves disguising speech. The Yoruba have "Ena" code talking which has a definite pattern. There is a "pig latin" in North America. The Tagalag of North America have theirs; also the Bakwiri of Camerouns have a language in which they speak backwards.

It is obvious, therefore, that the development of some kind of disguised speech, such as we suggest was done in the case of Epha, is not a novel or isolated phenomenon."

"We have tried to show above that the need to consult the supernatural world drives people to consult "Epha" which may be compared with Yoruba Ifa. We have explained the physical structure of the "Epha" instrument, the supposed source of its power to communicate with the "other" world, and the general procedure for consulting Epha."

Iron casting, terracota, Oba dynasty etc are all of Ife descent of which Ife and Bini interacted and learnt from each other.

If Yorubas can from Binis, then their is NO WAY Oba bini head would be buried in Ile Ife. Imagine someone named Mayowa saying he is not yoruba.
PoliticsRe: The Correct History Of Edo? by aljharem(m): 12:11am On May 10, 2012
Beaf: The only two near perfect versions of past history you can get in Southern Nigeria are the histories as related by the Edo's and Ijaws. Every other history is made up.

It is only within the histories related by the Edo's and Ijaws that you can find verifiable dates and absolutely provable descriptions.
The story of Ekhaladeran (Oduduwa), Esagho etc cannot be disputed.
Can you shut up, you sound like a mo.ron to say the least !

How can Ijaw and Edo be the most accurate when they have two different versions themselves ?

Even Urhobo which is an Edoiod has a different version from the 2 of which is closer to the Yoruba version.

Why do Urhobo worship Ifa/Epha ? Mumu

Why do Ijaws have Adisa and Edo have Ehadihan (or so)

Dude stick with your "Prefect GEJ" stance and leave history alone.
