ProgrammingDr. Chinedu Emeka Invents Computer Software To Track Criminals by aljharem(op): 2:10am On Apr 12, 2012
By ENYIM ENYIM
ONITSHA, ANAMBRA STATE—A computer scientist and former deputy governor of Anambra State, Dr. Chinedu Emeka, has developed a computer software that could be used to track criminals and check their activities in the country.

Emeka, who was deputy governor under Governor Chinwoke Mbadinuju’s administration, said he decided to embark on the research and develop the system as criminals were not being punished for offences committed.

Emeka, who just bagged a Phd in computer science from Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, said if criminals were caught and punished, prospective criminals would have a rethink before venturing into crimes.

He said there was a need for a national data base of criminals, such as the one he developed, that would be easily accessible to security agencies in the country.

He called on government and private institutions to patronize the Ivory Towers when seeking for solutions to challenges such as provision of power supply, computer software, alternative raw materials/ enhancement of existing raw materials and staff training.

Emeka called on politicians to always provide funds for universities to carry out research and development in the universities and advocated that energy should be re-channeled towards recognition of excellence in research and development.

He said government and private sector could encourage this by setting out annual prizes for most useful indigenous scientific discoveries, best made Nigeria computer software and most useful implement designed for farming.

EducationNigerian Students Dazzle The World In USA by aljharem(op): 2:09am On Apr 12, 2012
For five secondary school students from schools in Rivers and Akwa Ibom states, it was an unforgettable experience to behold the hallowed precincts of the United Nations (UN) Headquarters in New York, USA, where they joined 3,000 other students from 23 countries for a week-long conference in March, 2012. Africa was represented by two countries, namely: Nigeria and The Gambia.

Every year, for the past 38 years, the UN hosts the National High School Model United Nations (NHSMUN) conference which brings together international students from all corners of the globe to deliberate on today’s burning issues.

Essentially, the sessions are simulations of a real United Nations. The forum offers invaluable insights into the full range of UN activities and responsibilities.

The conference takes a problem-solving approach where the students are truly placed in the shoes of diplomats – a uniquely powerful way to educate young people about global issues. The young delegates, in seeking solutions to these problems learn to break away from narrow self-interests and develop true international co-operation.

The research and preparation required, the adoption of views and attitudes other than their own, the involvement and interaction with so many other young people from around the world, all combine to give the young people a deep insight into the worlds’ problems, to make them aware of the causes of conflict between nations and to lead them to a better understanding of the interests and motivations of others.

The Nigerian delegation to the 2012 NHSMUN qualified to participate after an excruciating selection process organised by a Port Harcourt- based NGO, FutureTrust Initiative for Capacity Building (FTI) in select secondary schools. Dr. Maureen Egbuche, Country Director of FTI has been involved in the selection, coaching and ultimately the participation of Nigerian secondary school delegates to the conference since 2002.

The five student ambassadors (three parent-sponsored and two FTI-sponsored) emerged in the persons of Chukwuebuka Araka, Tolulope Olukanmi, Rahmat Udousoro, Olisaemeka Okolo and Prince Alugbara from Bloombreed International School, Graceland Secondary School and Oginigba Community Comprehensive Secondary School in Port Harcourt and Topfaith International Secondary School, Mkpatak, Akwa Ibom State. These students flew the Nigerian flag.

its really funny that you assume afenifere sponsored tinubu's election.were they also the ones that sponsored his election in 1992?were they the ones that gave him money he used in funding nadeco struggle?u forget that asiwaju left a plum job at mobil to contest the 92 elections.as at then he had over 15 foreign accts
Lies, How many people even had upto 5 forieign accounts in 1992 (20 years ago). Lets stop this fallacy, you are just trying to justify Tinubu and all his corrupt practises.

Secondly, Please outline any completed job in ACN manifesto that has been completed or even started

1. They claim before the election that they would build a railway to link Edo, SW Delta, SWern state with Kwara and Kogi, Have they started the project (mind you this is 2012) 1 year after the elections are won.

2. They claim to do IPP for the SW so as to be the first region with constant electrity, have they started the project yet or they are still planning ?

3. What happened to economic integration which was the tune we all heard during the campaign ? Has Osun be integrated to Lagos ? etc

I can keep going on and on

Now tell me the projects like of Ajimibo and co have do in Ogun and co. I am waiting

If ACN mess up this last chance, they would lose the SW, lets not give unnecessary power to ACN to think if they do not perform, they would still keep their position. That is a lie

Please he was not that wealthy before becoming the state governor angry where did you get that from ?

In 1999 who sponsor his election, Tinubu or Aferifere of which even Funsho Williams chipped in to help so lets stop the claim, Now after 8 years being in power, Tinubu can not only afford to sponsor his own election but also election around the country, 6 governors and even to presidential one.

PoliticsRe: US Lashes At FG For Accuses Them For Allowing Boko Haram To Grow by aljharem(m): 3:45pm On Apr 11, 2012
Nigerians should wake up. The present US govt do not have our interest at heart by not designating Boko Haram a terrorist organisation

That leaves one question. Why hasn't Boko Haram been designated a terrorist organization? it has killed more people than some of the organizations on the list and it is dedicated to ethnic cleansing, something that we decided was unacceptable when it came to Muslims. Shouldn't it then be equally unacceptable when it is being done by Muslims to Christians?

Apparently not. Johnnie Carson, Obama's Chicago born man in Africa, and the Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs at subcommittee hearings chaired by Senator Coons, dismissed the idea of designating Boko Haram a terrorist organization and claimed falsely, that despite Boko Haram's repeated statements about its goals and its very name, that this conflict was not driven by religion, but by social inequities.

Questions about Boko Haram's terrorism against Christians were rerouted into what Carson described as a "comprehensive" approach to the problem, sidelining security assistance in favor of providing social aid to the Muslim north and urging the Nigerian government to stop aggressively fighting terrorism.

Boko Haram had been inspired by the Taliban and American diplomats are forcefully pushing the Nigerian government into adopting the same disastrous failed "Hearts and Minds" policies of Afghanistan. Instead of combating Boko Haram, we will be increasing funding to the Muslim north and even opening a consulate there. And of course urging Nigeria to appoint more Muslims to high ranking positions.

While the subcommittee on Homeland Security has urged that Boko Haram be designated a terrorist group, diplomats in the State Department are doing everything possible to sabotage the effort. The lies are coming fast and thick. In the New York Times, Jean Herskovitz wrote an op-ed insisting that there was no Boko Haram, suggesting instead that random criminal gangs were really responsible for the mass murder of Christians.

As a government employee, Johnnie Carson was somewhat more discreet, but took the same position that the real fault lies with the Christian South and the Nigerian government for keeping Muslims oppressed and in poverty, and that the only solution is to pour money, jobs and power into the north. The unstated endgame of this is to create a stalemate that will force the Nigerian political system to make further concessions to Islam and the Sharia law that Boko Haram is fighting for.

1. Boko Haram is not going to go away until there are no christians in Nigeria
2. Boko Haram isn"t just a product of poor muslims, this is part of a global jihad and Nigerians are asleep to that fact
3. Christians and other religions will continue to face increasing threats to their lives and existence until they get what they want
4. The Jihad goes beyond the bombs. It also includes the gradual concessions made by each succesive govt to the muslim not favouring the acceptance of islam into govt such as hajj, almajiri and national mosques

Dear Sir,

PLEASE STOP THE PROPAGANDA

My attention has been drawn to your recent post here on NL where you attempted to portray you and your people as victims. I wish to put the records straight.

You are not a victim, you are the OPPRESOR!

Nigeria gained her independence Oct 1st, 1960. Since then, we the people of the Niger Delta have been marginalised, ridiculed, scorned and manipulated by your kit and kin. You have used the advantage given to you by the colonial masters and diverted our God given natural resources to develop yourselves. Now, we have come of age and demand equity but alas, you are trying to play a new card. You are trying to play the victim. Let me repeat it again loud and clear for the world to hear, you are the OPPRESOR, not the victim. You occupied choice positions in the military, civil service and multinational companies and from those positions, you enriched your kit and kin.

Our position is simple. We are either equal partners in this anomaly of a union or we want out. We are fully ready to back our demands with action and no matter the attempts to intimidate us, we will not succumb to your blackmail.

Get this message into your thick skull!

Yours

Ed
My brother Edicolove, it seems like you are going crazy or maybe you are high on some cheap drugs. Maybe you need to read your history again and visit your political books.

We have never been against Niger-delta being on their own. Infact it was Awolowo that made the so called Niger-delta after the split of the mid-west when he was imprison by Nnamdi.

Yorubas were margainlised and suffer a great deal during the first republic after figthing for southern Nigeria so can when you talk of equality I think you should never called the yorubas again because they have always wanted equality.

What I am telling you here is to ask your leaders to stop wasting money on militants ans spend more money on the grass root people. Stop treating GEJ like a baby he is a Nigeria president and NOT South-South president so the North West East (if they have a mind of their own) can ask him questions and have every right to critise him if it is needed.

You cannot be blackmailing ACN or the SW because of Oil, that is stu.pid and very very tribalisitic. OK!!!

Saro wiwa

I am a Khana. The Khana along with their cousins, the Gokana, Tai and Eleme have, since 1947, been grouped as Ogonis, in the Ogoni Division. Today, the Khana and Gokana are in the Bori Local Government Area, the Tai and Eleme are part of something called Otelga, a hybrid Local Government consisting of the Okrika Ijaws, the Ndoki Igbos and the Tai and Eleme. We belong to Rivers State.

The Ogoni number about 500,000, which makes me an extreme minority in a Nigeria of one hundred million people. The first secondary school in Ogoni country was established one hundred years after the first secondary school in Yorubaland, the CMS Grammar School in Lagos (185. These two facts alone, in the first instance, establish my pitiable plight. I am unfortunate to be a Nigerian. I would rather not be, but I am doing my level best to be one, and a good one at that. Being a Nigerian means that my brother Nigerian of the Bura ethnic group in Borno State has been told that I am a "Southerner," equal to the Yoruba or Igbos who are numerous, well-educated and are after the jobs which the "northerner" ought to have. I wander, therefore, through the Federal Civil Service and am lost in the competition between "northern" and "Southern" Nigerians, between the Igbo and the Yoruba, between the various clans and religions of the various peoples of Nigeria, between personal ambition and greed. I am lost. I cannot truly answer the name Nigerian. [, ]

I was a graduate student when the cataclysmic events of 1966 happened. Apart from my revulsion at the needless murders of the innocent, nothing upset me more than Ojukwu's dishonest formulations and his attempt to kidnap the Ogoni, among others, into his Igbo empire called "biafra." I knew that he pinned his hopes of the economic viability of "biafra" on the oil of the Ogoni and the Ijaw. I rebelled. I became Secretary of a small committee which met nights in Port Harcourt and issued a communiqué calling on Gowon to create a Rivers State by decree.

When, by sheer quirk of fortune, this happened in 1967, I abandoned family and caution, crossed the fighting lines and found myself in Lagos. There I became a member of something called the Interim Advisory Council of Rivers State and, subsequently, Administrator for Bonny. I returned to the war front and struck up friendships with gentlemen like Sani Bello who comes from Kontagora, Akinrinade from Ife, Obasanjo from Abeokuta, Yakubu Danjuma from Takum, Dan Ato, now deceased, from Bida. I had reason to hope that my nightmare as an Ogoni in Nigeria was about to end.

With the war ended, and as a Commissioner in Rivers State, I soon found that the Rivers State for which I had fought did not end my nightmare. In the first place, oil money from Ogoni country (as well as Ijaw country) was being carted away to Lagos, leaving the Ogoni illiterate and backward. This is anti-federalism. Worse still, the Ijaws were taking their frustrations out on the non-Ijaws of the State. For the Ijaws alone number more than the eight other ethnic groups in Rivers State put together. Though historically disunited, the Ijaws find unity when it comes to lording it over the non-Ijaws. The Ijaws will want to perpetuate this. Today, there is not even a Commission from my Local Government Area in the Rivers State Cabinet such as it is. My dilemma as an Ogoni is not about to end.

Lost in this dreadful nightmare, I went in 1971 to see Chief Awolowo at the Federal Ministry of Finance. There was nothing I told the sage that he was not aware of. He showed me his writings on the issue and bade me seek the mid-Southern State he had proposed in 1966. Thus was the quest for a Port Harcourt State begun. In 1974. When we started, there was no shortage of opponents. To the Ijaws, I became a traitor. [, ] The creation of this State would alleviate my nightmare and show Nigeria how much it has robbed and neglected the Ijaws of the oil-bearing Delta.

So, what do I really want? I want a place where my children can regain the independence which was the Ogoni patrimony before the advent of colonial rule and before Nigeria's independence consigned them to slavery at the hands of their neighbours. I want the option of CHOICE. And I am not begging for it. I DEMAND it. And I also want that option for Hauwa Madugu, the 21-year old Youth Corper in my office. She is a Jenju from Gongola State. So that we can both be better citizens of Nigeria and end our collective nightmare.

How I wish Awo were still alive! He would have understood. He knew the country well!

This is low level chemistry project in high school.only in Africa will this be an achievement. grin
The energy used to separate the hydrogen is more than the energy the hydrogen would give back in the water making process.

Although you are correct.

I the guess where the achivement comes from is the type cathode and Anode used. Of course it has to be cheaper than the energy it provides.
