afam4eva: Yeah, it's an antiquated version of normal Yoruba. I prefere the Yoruba that's spoken in eko.It is actually all the same but different accent which translate to different spelling. As for the Eko accent, it is excatly the same as Ibadan because of the massive influx of Ibadan people. So what you hear in Eko (most of the time) is Ibadan. Go to Badagry, and Isele Eko (in some houses) you would hear proper eko accent. ![]() |
afam4eva: Which kain antiquated Yoruba be this. Is this the Yoruba that is spoken in Kwara?it is normal yoruba ![]() |
Tbh proficiency in mathematics is going to be far more useful in the long run for the welfare of SW Nigeria than learning another Nigerian language. Better to focus a child's precious hours on math and science than say Hausa, in my opinion. You'll be more competitive in this rapidly globalizing world that way. Speaking one indigenous language + English is good enough for most
Sad, it is good to learn languages in Nigeria since it is not just your indigenous language people you see all the time. A man that knows Yoruba and Igbo language is much more expose than a man that just know Igbo or just Yoruba. You might not be perfect in the other language but at least you understand it when they speak it. |
afam4eva: What are you afraid of exactly? That an Igbo president may Arrow the current arrangement that is not beneficial to some parts of the country.Exactly, the only change he should be making is to benefit every part of the country or one that would not benefit all the parts of the country not just some part |
First, lets just say no man is perfect. No matter how smart or objective you think you are, there are some element of ignorance inherent in any human's wisdom, not recognizing it is to play God. Haka nai, there is no way we're going to agree on everything. If you recall what happened during Obama's 2008 election, some white folks believed Black folks have a score to settle and they were really mortified, terrified, I mean these folks were so scared (to be precise, people from Indiana - I dont live there so dont go looking for me, Lol)I even thought for a second they might be right. To drive home my point, myths can be created and sustained, in fact if I were in your position I would probably feel the same way. I would be scared to elect the people that I fought against, however, here is the catch - You cant call a man "my fellow country man" unless you mean it and you trust him to be that. You cant eat your cake and have it, you either agree that hes one of you or you let him go his way. I ask all the time, why did you fight to bring me back when you know I cant be trusted? I can vouch for over 98% of Easterners that have at one time or the other advocated for seperation - the reason they did was simply because of this belief (fact) that they're not given a fair handshake. If you're honest with yourself, do you think East was given a fair handshake? Even the Ijaws that were the most vocal group in the east after Igbos thought they would get a nice brotherly love from Nigeria, were they not clamouring for their Ijaw republic more than the Igbos before luck smiled on them with GEJ? Even with GEJ cant you still hear their voices on either SNC or seperation? Lets not play fool or blind. We all know why people put this extra requirement on Igbos and it'll be foolish on our part to try to meet it because, quite franckly, its un-meeetable. How do we prove we're nationalistic? How do we prove we're not ready to settle scores? Please people what do you think we are? Some brainless fools? How can a nation as big as Igbo sit down to prove they're all that? Did north prove theirs? And if they did who veted it? Did Ijaw prove theirs, even today Elrufai and others still accuse GEJ of planning for Ijaw republic. How did SW prove theirs before OBJ was forced on all of us? How else does a region show their belief in a nation when their people are building mansions every where? Igbos have nothing to prove to any region or the whole nation, we have done our part. We got knocked down and we got back up, we didnt throw bombs like Boko Haram, we didnt blow up pipelines like MEND did, or you think there are no pipelines in Igboland? We didnt cripple oil extraction from Imo and Abia, or do you still believe we have no oil extraction going on in Abia and Imo? We didnt sabotage Nigeria in anyway and we've been serving with distinctions in the sports, Army, police, institutions of higher learning, private sector, etc what more do you want? If you ask me, I would honestly tell you I dont want this presidency or any of its trappings but I will gladly swallow my desire or wish for whatever my brothers want. If the majority of Easterners say they want to go to Aso rock then I'll help them get there. Today may not be bright, but after darkness comes the usual morning light. In the nutshell, as long as this myth that we're not nationalistic is up there, Nigeria will not survive for too long. Like Onlytruth said, its either we're seen as Nigerians or we're not. We never saw ourselves as brothers before the Brits came so you have no right to force me to be your brother when you have no good intentions for me. I understand we're blacks and in some way we're related but how good is that relation if all you care about is making sure you're the only one with Aso rock keys? To a be strong nation, all component parts of that nation must not only be strong but also complement eachother - Are we building a strong nation? If I say I want out do you demonize me, tag me "criminal and lazy" or do you ask me why I want out? Its physically impossible to build a strong Nigeria without any of the 3 big groups that make up Nigeria, I'm not counting out the smaller groups because its morally impossible and reprehensible to think we can build or live off any of the minority groups. So my brother, nation building requires all hands - you can cut mine off because of your myth or you can attach it back and take a leap of faith on me. Happy easter.
Hmmm, then I don't understand the games likes of Onlytruth play here if this is ur actual feeling (although I guessed as much). Yes Igbos love Nigeria and build "mason" everywhere but later you claim that to be your territory land ? Also, you as a man, after written all this should be the one to shut likes of Onlytruth up when they come with this baifra thing or Nigeria hates us. I don't mind a Nigerian president of Igbo extract but as Haka nai (mutum nagari) clearly stated, the fear of other groups should be addressed but likes of onlytruth even though he did not fight the war, the here shouting fire on Nairaland. Even I at time fear, I would not lie. I hope our fears don't come to reality with an Igbo president. |
freecocoa: My sweetheart before beforeThank you jare nwunye'm, I am ok iyawo mi. I have just ignore the man, maybe the next yoruba igbo marriage would be you and I ![]() |
cugresources: @Alj, its hard to forgive them for what they did to us during the biafran war. we wouldn't have known all these Boko Haram, corruptions and the likes if they hadn't betrayed us and we achieved biafra then. Ojukwu and his team; chinua achebe and co were determined to design an european-standard black nation called Biafra, but the yorubas betrayed us, so why should we look them with good eye, tell me? All these things they are saying here as if they like us Ibos, let an Ibo man come out for presidency tomorrow, and see how many yorubas that will vote for him, they are traitors, its in their bloods to always hate Ibos, so why marry your hater? Israelis can never marry a palestinian or a German for no single reason, that is how we should live with Yorubas and Hausas, they hate us, so lets just live with them for the sake of one nation, but never marry them becos they will disappoint u tomorrow if anything happens in Nigeria thats the obvious truth!!I don't understand why you are spreading hate in the hearts of your brothers and sisters I don't even understand what you are meant to gain from it. Anyway, as she has her story, I bet other people have their own story of Igbos. Again it is individuals not east or yoruba. Yoruba and Hausa don't hate anyone, it is your own delusion. |
I don't understand why my Igbo brothers are just insulting the yorubas like this just because of 1 fail marriage out of millions ? Her husband was wrong to have done that it has nothing to do with east or yoruba, It has to do with individuals and the human nature. Please my eastern brothers, take it easy o !! ![]() |
Lets stop talking about the civil war ![]() |
why
thank you oga musiwa @ Beaf Musiwa is asking why ![]() |
Beaf: Azawad is the next Somalia. What do you think of this https://www.nairaland.com/908907/why-will-gej-increse-fuel |
Na wa o!!! watch as GEJ goons would come here to defend the illogical increase in fuel on the people rather than the so called cabals he claims to be fighting.!!! The cabals can still live comfortablly will we the masses we take the brunt of it. |
Keep blaming alj harem |
You are so stupiid to say that shiit above, can you survive with 20pounds after loosing all you have? can you tell me one ethnic group in Nigeria that is ahead of Igbos in this Nigeria despite loosing all they have during the conspired war? well like i told Afam on my first post,we the Igbos don't stay behind no matter the situation and no matter the position we found our self,If not for the God talented gift on average Igbo's we would have still live in a sorry situation in Nigeria but hell no we took the bull by the horn. All we Igbo need is to keep our brain busy planing how to advance more and more in our God giving industrious and human resources nature, hey boy get your self a glass of cold water and chill a little bit.
alj harem: Thank you, you jsut shot yourself on the foot. |
afam4eva: Definitely every big city has these problems. Lagos has actually been given retributions to cushion these negative externalities like you call it.Tell me the problem New york has ? |
afam4eva: Lagos, despite having the smallest land mass in the federation gets one of the highest federal allocation even ahead of some NDDC states.Maybe because IT HAS THE HIGHEST POPULATION CATERING FOR PEOPLE IN NDDC STATES ?? If they give the NDDC STATE THE HIGHEST MONEY WHICH THEY DO, WHO WOULD CATER FOR NDDC PEOPLE NOT IN NDDC STATE / CARE TO ANSWER ? |
afam4eva: Lagos has already been placed on the pedestal to develop whether oil is involved or not. Don't you get it. Lagos can now raise it's own funds without waiting fro the FG, It is bow a mega city, thanks to the FCT status it had years back.So before theFCT statue in 1800 how did lagos develop because the boom in Lagos was about 200 years ago. Care to explain ? Before the british, there have been migration of other yorubas and infact Bini, Hausa and Nupe people to Lagos because of trade etc, I mean it was also a famous route to get to Ghana etc Now before the FCT statues, the British helped Lagos to develop (second credit) and after the british people jsut started migrating their because of the development which even included building a sea port and joining her Islands together. FCT statue did not have real effect on Lagos, I can only think og 3 building by the FG in Lagos while it was the FCT. Federal secretarite etc Now, the current boom Lagos is facing is because Of God using Fashola if not it would be an Old swamp by today. I mean people have already started insulting Lagos as Agbogro/dirty city etc But today they are migrating back. That is it, iNFACT, the more the people, the more we the indigenes are affected by it because over pollution, land space etc |
Nwanne when will you lay off Igbo? Lagos belongs to SW, end of the story - whoever contests that is either blind or something else. If you're not Yoruba but you live in Lagos, you're a tenant, pure and simple. Now, Alj Harem, its time to lay off my people.
I am not on your people, Your people should stop claiming and stop spreading falsehood. I am saying this now so as to avoid trouble in the future, what you cannot try inn Calabar, Kano or even as central as Abuja is only tried in Lagos. It time you people get it straight once and for all. Don't take our kindness for stu.pidity ![]() |
afam4eva: Stop deviating from the issue. We're talking of what happened when Lagos was capital and you're talking about eko atlantic. Are you that dense? Not it is not the capatal, are you also going to give credit to Oil ? Before there was Oil or FCT, it was developing, during Oil and FCT it was developing, after FCT it is still developing Even if Oil finishes today it would still develop, what does that tell you ? Lagos is Lagos WIthout Oil and Oil has nothing to do with Lagos. Lagos has nothing to do with being the former FCT !!! why is lokoja or calabar not the same Why is Abuja not the same The Oil capatal made from Oil is Abuja thanks to IBB, Oil and FCT has nothing to do with Lagos. I hope you get my point |
ow11: Good Heavens! What a bunch of whiny bitter posters we have on NL. . . .Thank you |
Afam my brother you have provided this alj_nama haram avenue to draw attention, hehehe this man boy alj_nkita will never change, watch it he will channel this argument into yoruba igbo bashing. My brother Afam engage your self into something serious such as how we (Igbos) can be more productive and Industrious more than as we are now.
Whatever you think, the fact remains that 20 pounds policies contrary to what you all are saying went a long why to help Igbos come back couple with SNDP by Gowon etc |
afam4eva: The istake you guys are making is that you think that it's only where you have the government seat and parastatals that's the capital, forgetting that billions of naira are pumped into making a place a befitting capital. What billions of Naira, and so you assumed it was gotten from Oil ?? Infact let me give to an example there is a project going on in Lagos, Eko Atlantic, Was that gotten from oil as well ? Yes or No !!! That how you give credit to some thing which is not ! |
afam4eva: Dude, when did i ever mention anything about Igbos? I cited oil as the catalyst for development in Lagos post independence.NOPE OIL was not a catalyst for Lagos development at all. Infact Oil had nothing to do with Lagos, they are 2 separate entities. There was no catalyst if not the catalyst started way before the formation on Nigeria. |
afam4eva: The development in these places were an off-shoot of the development in Lagos which was necessitated by the huge influx of people who wanted to enjoy the hooodies of the FCT at the time. In the future, should the capital be moved from Abuja, we will start hearing that ASO ROCK was the capital of Nigeria and not Abuja.By is Lokoja not developing since Lokoja is not far from FCT !!! |
afam4eva: Those things you're listing were built by the british and most of them are on the island(the supposed capital of Nigeria). What exactly is your argument.Built by the british but NOT BY OIL OR IGBOS or even Nigerians so stop the illogical argument. So you can not claim that Oil built those but the british, If anyone is to take credit for Lagos then it is the British Not Oil or FCT statues !!! |
afam4eva: Stop making fun of yourself. You want to tell me that every single Igbo person withdrew his money from Nigerian banks when they were running for dear lives? This is utterly ridiculous.Thank you, you jsut shot yourself on the foot. 1. so their were not upto 100 Igbos that had money in Nigeria bank then, isn't that so 2. How many Igbos actually had an account ? 3. How much did those Igbos have ? because the highest paid people were teacher and they were not earning 20 pounds back then 4. How did Nigeria fund 20 pounds for every single Igbo above 18 ? A solid question Please answer |
18 th century was this Oil as well ? or because Lagos was the capital ? |
afam4eva: By federal presence, i want to believe you're talking of government parastatals. These places were not the location of the seat of governnment but they benefitted from the largesse extended to Lagos as the federal capital territory. Just like lagos/Ibadan expressway is enjoying at the moment.Abegi go siddon jare, what benefit ? there were way develop before Western Nigeria was even part of this Nigeria rubbish |
afam4eva: Dude, you're not making any sense here because Lagos was capital when the boom in the oil industry started and lagos benefitted a great deal from that. Are you trying to tell me that the massive development in Lagos should be credited to western Nigeria even when the greatest achievement ever credit to western Nigeria is the cocoa house and free education. If you want to see what Awolowo did in western Nigeria, go to Ibadan and not Lagos.Wrong again, Today we still have Oil boom, why is ain't people migrating to Abuja ? the moreover OIL WAS NOT USED TO DEVELOP LAGOS. get that for the last time. When Lagos was the capital Nigeria oil just started. Let even say Oil, are all those Oil found in the outside the western region yes or No ?? Abeg, Oil did not develop Lagos, People develop Lagos Oil develop Abuja because to transformed from a plain land to a city over 5-10 year Lagos right from the 18 th century has ALWAYS MAINTAINED HER STATUES way before any oil was discovered This is the sort of illogical reasoning that is annoying Was it Oil that did this ? Lagos in 1887 LAGOS IN 1913 was it Oil and Igbos that did this ? Yes or No 1900 lagos, was it oil that built the rails ? ![]() was this oil also because that was before yorubas even knew Igbos existed or their was anything like Oil in the world Please stop those illogical argument but you have no point |
afam4eva: Do you have any proof of the bolded?Did you have any proof to suggest they had money in Nigerian banks yes or no ? |
