However, the situation took an ethnic coloration as drivers and other hoodlums in the commercial city went on rampage demanding the elimination of Hausa people on the ground that the policeman who shot the deceased was a Hausa man.

I love Igbo. It pains me when i see Igbo and yoruba fighting each other over nothing. Honestly i dnt expect yorubas to be watching while Igbos were trying to invade Lagos. As a matter fact, yoruba needed to protect their land which they did. Believe me,Igbos would have done the same if they were in yorubas' shoes. Yorubas' action is justified.  Igbo should stop hating on yoruba and try to embrace their mistakes.
gbamm are you minding this them

I don't know what they expected them to think

After they invaded Mid-west, masscred them and tried to make Igbo the language of the mid-west then they were enroute to the west

Normal people know they were trying to do the same, Only an ideeiot would think otherwise that is what they are doing.

Personally I don't dislike Igbos infact I have been saved once by an Igbo man

Also I have experienced 1st hand tribalism by Igbos in lagos on me. Still I keep my sanity thinking that is just a few out of millions

But NL confirmed it that they are actually on Yoruba case

If yorubas keep tribalism on NL

they would take it to the next level by going on every blog and newspaper and saying rubbish about yoruba

While it is often wrong to assume a majority in an issue that is yet to be statistically proven, I still feel guilty enough to pour out what I feel about Igbos as an Igbo man.

Is there any part of our original culture which attributes so much importance to property acquisition? I ask this because I have no knowledge of any history of Igbos conquering other people and taking over their land.

I am quite guilty of this land acquisition and I'm now having a rethink. In my office, we have several ethnic groups and amongst all of us only the Igbo ones have acquired more than one property in Port Harcourt and we are neither the highest earning nor the richest. I think if Igbos really want to be at peace with their host communities, they should channel this borrowed land acquisition culture to their various home towns.
Hmmmmm

I just want to correct something

during Arochukwu expansionism they took over part of Ibibio land in present day Abia. Arochukwu is a clan in Igbo.

PoliticsGunmen Invade Acn Chieftain’s House, Set Ablaze Two Vehicles by aljharem(op): 1:44pm On Feb 07, 2012
BY VINCENT UJUMADU

AWKA – TWO vehicles belonging to a chieftain of Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, at Agulu in Anaocha local government area of Anambra State were set ablaze in what was believed to be a political vendetta.

There is on-going campaign for rerun of the House of Representatives elections for Anaocha/Njikoka/Dunukofia federal constituency in the state between Mrs. Uche Ekwunife of APGA and Mr. Dozie Nwankwo of ACN.

The Court of Appeal sitting in Enugu had ordered for rerun, following an appeal by Nwankwo of ACN who objected to the decision of the Anambra Election Petition Tribunal.

The two vehicles involved are a Mitsubishi L300 bus belonging to Anaocha local government chairman of ACN, Chief Raphael Egbobe, and a Peugeot pick up van parked in his compound at Ogbu-ifite village, Agulu.

Unknown gunmen had allegedly invaded the ACN chairman’s premises at night and set the vehicles ablaze before running away in their vehicle.

Egbobe, who spoke on the incident, said his children had told him that some strange men in a black Toyota Hilux Jeep invaded his compound and asked for his where about.

The men were said to have claimed that they had bags of rice and envelop to deliver to him.

He said he lost eleven cartons of wine and some personal effects, adding that when they learnt that he and his wife were not yet back, the men intensified their demand for them to open the gates which was rebuffed by his children.

“They left and came back at about 11pm, shooting sporadically into the air, before scaling the fence to set the vehicles ablaze after which they ran away.

“When the family raised an alarm calling for help to salvage the vehicles from the fire, the hoodlums came back shooting in all directions which made the neighbours to run for their lives,” Egbobe said.

Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, in the state, Mr. Emeka Chukwuemeka, who confirmed the incident yesterday, said an intense man-hunt had already begun to fish out those behind the act.

Following the incident, the PPRO said security had been beefed up in the area, adding that the incident had also necessitated that security be beefed up in the 11 local government areas in Anambra South senatorial zone where rerun election would also take place between Chief Chuma Nzeribe of APGA and Chief Andy Uba of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP,

He warned parents to put their children under control and go about their normal daily activities peacefully without fear of any molestation.

The police spokesman also warned that anyone who allowed himself to be used as a political thug would be dealt with accordingly.

Alj_Harem, now you're writing under the assumption that Igbo is possibly looking to form a union with Yoruba (the assumption that Igbo supposedly looks forward to "Republic of Southern Nigeria", a.k.a. Nigeria Jr.).

Is that what you think?
no. I am assuming that they want to form a country with everyother group in Nigeria apart from Hausa/fulani/kanuri and yoruba.

That's my assumption.

Am I correct going by the post of some Nairaland Igbo or your position is different ?

Did you give others the chance for self determination ? NO and please don't lie to yourself I know what is going on in Nigerian's mentality from every geopolitical zone

The only way the above quote can be rationalized is under the assumption that there exists some kind of collective, Igbo hegemony (the implication of intent). Incidentally, we all know that to not be true. So, long story short, the above quote is baseless and essentially nonsense.

Honestly, the day people learn to stop erroneously treating the Igbo's "adventurous" or "industrious" nature as collective force, is the day that they realize how unfounded their sentiment is, and then stop (in the words of my mother) "tearing their trousers unnecessarily".

Igbo do not have a "fear of Yoruba curbing excesses".
That is what you think. Whether fear or not it does not matter again. The fact remains the bases of the unity of any country should not be based on hate or bigotry but based on Love  and forward "thinkingness"

All I am doing is just trying to rationalize the issue. Yes Igbos and Industrious, Yes Igbos are adventurous

1. that is not even a proper website

2. In Nigeria today Yorubas, Hausa and Igbos are the most I repeat the Most hated group

Ok let me explain

The Hausas, fulani and igbos think yorubas are tribalistic and because of their high level of education, they get the best jobs. Now people hate that as you can even see on this forum.

The Yorubas, Hausas and Fulani think the Igbos are arrogant and are willing to grab whatever they can. Not because of business success as you people put it but because they believe the Igbos are greedy. Also crime orientated but they have forgotten to ask that which ethnic group does not comment crime. Shame

The Yoruba and Igbos believe that hausa and fulani people are extremist and believe that they are not as educated as them thus they should not hold any power. Tell me why should the south hold power for long when we have others

You see the cycle of hate ?

You think Igbos are the only ones with the problem . LOL I laugh hard when I see all this lies and forming pity for yourselves to the world

well undecided It is all propaganda at the end of the day. Every ethnic group have faced animosity to the highest order before. That I can tell you.

When you outsmart someone in business, that'll be the result; accusations from every corner. I just read a link about the Bamikele people, seen as the Igbos of Cameroun, they face the same persecution because that are successful entrepreneurs.

CultureRe: Myth or Reality: Yoruba is closer to the Edos culturally than the East is. by aljharem(m): 2:04am On Feb 07, 2012
after reading this thread One would conclude something

southern Nigeria is impossible. Why you might ask

Ok

1. The ethnic groups in the southern Nigeria are different from each other and they know this. Rather than look at the similarity they look at the differences

2. I remember Edwin clarks comments which insisted that Igbos in delta and rivers should not contest for SS as if the Southern Nigeria is no longer one

3. I remember the comments by south east politicians as well

4. When the bases of unity is on ethnic bigotry as the case of the SS/SE then it is bad for Southern Nigeria.

Now reasons why Yorubas would not like southern Nigeria even if it means just their 6 SW states kogi and kwara

1. The jealousy and hate for yorubas by Igbos can make one run insane.

2. The bases of the unity of southern Nigeria is hate for the north thus once the north goes what happens; Yorubas or Ijaws next ? No one has answered the question ask by NLers

3. As Obong Victor the former governor of akwa Ibom said today " If we fail to get true federalism right, Nigeria will not just break up into two or three countries but many many countries". Thus he sees the underlying problem which people are blind to. Maybe this is just internet talk or they just chose to ignore the evil day

4. SNC is the way forward even in southern Nigeria. I don't see a southern Nigeria united etc without some blood. I am sorry for being pessimistic.

5. The truth is that Igbos don't want a country with yorubas in it because of the fear of another majority to curb their excesses which is understandable and I believe everyone including the yorubas and Igbos should embrace this.

6. Odudua is not here to advertise anything neither are we begging anyone for anything or land as my Igbo brothers would call it. Again no one should be deceived to think they would be begged to for a country with the SW. It is completely up to you.

7. What happens if oil is found in the north tomorrow, would you all be begging or say it is fair for them to give us ?

8. Beaf and co that have inconcated ethnic supremacy and and bigotry to most people.

At this point in our history where we Might be breaking up. I would leave you with my final words

Make sure the bases of any unity is not hate or bigotry for other groups but love and self determination; that why you can make a successive country.

Here I stand Olodos. grin grin grin grin

I feel a need to explain to my Igbo brothers that I have not read anywhere here on this thread where any Igbo is claiming Edo, or trying to imply that we need Edo for anything. It is almost laughable to even make that conclusion.
Some of you need to understand Nigerian political scenario properly, especially to learn how not to cede alliances and territories where you don't need to.
As far as I know, Edo people remain neutral and some of them would lean Eastwards if push comes to shove. I really don't want to talk more on this.

Oba Erediauwa is a leader and so may even have been quoted out of context, but even if he meant what that quote said, isn't the shame on him? Wouldn't intelligent folks in Edo dissociate from him and that quote? My main point is that I have learned enough of Nigeria's history to never cede my ground even in the North, talk less of Southern Nigeria.
Currently in southern Nigeria, the ONLY group I wouldn't want to associate much with is the Yoruba. It is not a mark of weakness, but a mark of strength!
Shaka Zulu said that "a leopard is a strong animal, but if he is offered wings, he would be a fool to refuse."  cool
