Again, allonym I am sorry

Every English word "necessarily" MUST have a (standard) definition to be an English word.

Of course words also have denotations and connotations as well as idioms of usage. These are more subjective in nature and we can argue about what they are. but every English word has a definition. Thats what Dictionaries are for.

I have seen your posts on other threads, seeems you enjoy trouble sha cheesy
According to who? What is the definition of undefined? Aren't all definitions supposed to be non recursive? Ie, you cannot use a word to define a word, and to a lesser degree, you can't use a root of a word to define it.

Or, perhaps, it is not that God cannot be defined, just that there currently does not exist proper terminology or ideas or . . . I'm drawing a blank for the word i want . . . to define God.

Ok. , a new version of Ubuntu every six months. . . and you are comparing it to an OS that has been largely unchanged for five years. The fact that Windows XP, which came out in 2001, still is a viable contender to the latest linux distro, clearly shows its no some piece of junk.

In any case, the differences between the two ultimately are subjective. Windows is just more intuitive. There is no getting around it. That's why its currently dominates the market (that and the costs to migrate everything to another system, though advances are daily making this easier and cheaper).

Linux is a great idea, and constantly is getting better, but, I still think it will take a few more years before a distro emerges that really kicks windows butt.
Nairaland GeneralRe: Why Aren't Men Emotional? by allonym: 10:33pm On Mar 24, 2006
I mean, I understand where you are coming from, its better to express your emotions, than let it take you to the point where you are actively hurting the other person (like by cheating on them).

I guess what I'm saying is that, I don't think men keep their emotions so tightly to themselves, that they would be more likely to seek . . . satisfaction. , happiness. . .somewhere else, rather than discuss the problem.

What do you call a nerd anyhow? Am an accountant by profession and if I can use Linux anybody can. You seem to think that linux is the terminal but then, have you ever tried using KDE? Most of the things that Vista is running after have been in other Oses such as linux and Mac for ages. Does Microsoft have anything resembling Kompose(linux), expose(apple) or Sherlock and Beagle search? Does windows come with widgets such as dashboard?

Abeg, go try linux and stop arguing out of ya hat ,man.

And yes, If I was to give my mum a computer what would I instal on it? Probably Ubuntu or PC linux. Why? Cos I will not be around to be trouble shooting it for her all the time. No crashes, no hanging, no blue screens.
What linux? The particular distribution that people spent years configuring just right? As soon as you trying using something written for another distribution, your machine breaks? Give me a break! I'm sure if somoene spent 2 years compiling applications for windows that integrated nicely, one would have the same integrated suite of stuff.

In any case, I don't need to have windows ship with all those fancy toys, I can just pick and choose which ones I want from somewhere else, which, ultimately, whether you want to admit it or not, is what someone else already did for you.

Funny, my mom uses a windows machine (actually, always has). I have never had to troubleshoot ANY problems for her. She has not had ANY problems. The things she needs my help for are stuff she had never done before. So, what is your point. Just because you cannot maintain a windows machine without it crashing, doesn't mean everyone else suffers your fate.
ComputersRe: I Think Nigerians Need Macintosh Computers! by allonym: 10:24pm On Mar 24, 2006
On my thinkpad, I have only had to install things once. they all worked out of the box. I don't spend hours searching and downloading things online to make the oem usb to parallel port adapter I found work. I'm not constrained to only using devices someone has gotten around to writing drivers for.

If you can't create the list, don't bother trying.

In any case, I don't have to do the convincing, just look at market share. The great linux has been out for how many years now? How much market share has it gained in the past 5? past 8?

Don't make me laugh (well , .laugh even more).

ComputersRe: I Think Nigerians Need Macintosh Computers! by allonym: 10:14pm On Mar 24, 2006
There are few people who use linux as their main os who are not nerds who had a choice.

The grandma's and grandpas out there who gamely use some GUI based version of linux which attempts to give a Windows look and feel to the OS so that people can pretend they are still using windows had no choice cuz their misguided grandson or granddaughter thought it would be a great experiment to have nana use linux and prove to the world that anyone could use it.

Enjoy using your computer

Yeah right.

Who can use linux. Nerds. The average person can't make heads or tails of it. Heck, even the average nerds can't.

You can't believe how many times I walk by people who are having issues configures this/that/or the other in linux, and I ask them what they are up to, then laugh as I realize I could do the same thing within a few seconds in windows.

Anyone who has watched people try to use linux immediately knows the truth. Heck, if windows was so bad, why is it being pirated so much. Linux is FREE. People can use it legally, free from being sued by MS, so why?

Seriously, what can people do with linux that I cannot do on my Windows machine?

If you can name 5 things, I will capitulate and never enter any such discussion again.
Christianity EtcRe: Definition Of God by allonym: 9:46pm On Mar 24, 2006
Engage christians in a discussion, eventually, they will flee. Cannot for the life of them defend their great religion or God.

No,

Ignorance is when people pretend the bible is the end all for God's word, when the so-called bible has been edited and changed many times over the past few centuries.

So, no, I'm not ignorant.

You compare breaking a dish to adultery.

i guess we better leave him he's got a big problem that only God can help him through including his lack of understanding we've got better things to do with our time than teaching ''a so called grown- up'' who can't even understand simple everyday language
Rhodalyn, you were never explaining anything that you said
Rhodalyn:
it makes a lot of sense, maybe you don't understand it and mind you, it isnt just like saying ''although all of them are boys, some are girls''!!!!

it's like saying '' although christians do not believe in gods, non christians do!!! and thats why they've got to be specific about which God they're referring to GEDDIThuhhuh/
In this post, the statement you were explaining was not said by you. Perhaps you are suffering from an identity crises with nicetohave?

anyway, now tell me , what school did youuuuuuuuuu also go to and which teacher of your's taught you this it is go to and not goto geddit?
Perhaps you cannot read. I never said you made the satement about christians. What you did is misinterpret what nicetohave said. Which I have quoted over over and over again. The fact you are still making mistakes suggests you are lacking in reading comprehension skills. This does not speak well for your school, considering that you claim to be in the top of your class.
Christianity EtcRe: Definition Of God by allonym: 9:14pm On Mar 24, 2006
there is only one way you can 1 + 1.

How do you think calculators add 1 + 1? They do it in binary. . . and by some magical stroke, it comes out as 2. A number that doesn't exist in binary, which you claim is not equivalent to 10 in binary.

You picked a bad example to try to make your point. But i'm a nice guy. I'll let you make up some other example which you know enough about to have an intelligent conversation.

Seriously, there are kids who have a better grasp of math than you are showing at the moment.

NO, I don't. That is not what he said. Let quote him:

Rhodalyn:
because, although they do not recognize it, some do
Let me now use the christian example you did:

because, although christians do not believe in gods, some christians do.

That does not make sense. I know you are young Rhodalyn . , but you are not that young.

How can "some" in his statement reference a different group of people from those referenced by "they" in his statement?

Seriously, what schools did the two of you goto?
Christianity EtcRe: Definition Of God by allonym: 9:06pm On Mar 24, 2006
Really,

In binary, 01 + 01 = 10.

10 in binary is equivalent to 02 in decimal.

Please don't embarass yourself if you don't know what you are talking about. Pull out a simple scientific calculator that can convert between binary and decimal if you can't do the math in your head.

nicetohave:
sorry, 1+1 in binary addition is not 2.

like i said you are limited in knowledge even in the things you claim so much to know, how then can you understand the definition of God.
Nairaland GeneralRe: Why Aren't Men Emotional? by allonym: 9:00pm On Mar 24, 2006
Your second example is weird, but I see where you are going.

You are comparing the woman catching a man cheating and him expressing his unhappiness to the woman doing so after the man breaks a dish and she "expresses" her feelings.

Then you ask which is better for a relationship? Well. . .you have orchestrated your example such that the first one, which I termed emotional is better.

Yes, I agree, its better that the feelings come out when its just a dish breaking, rather than marriage covenants breaking. However, all things being equal, in the same situations, a woman's reaction is more "emotional" than a man. You said it yourself, she was expressing her feelings. . .and feelings is a synonym for emotion.

If I found a book which says God doesn't care about humanity and quoted from it, would that convince you of my position.

Probably not.
Christianity EtcRe: The Bible Code And The End Of The Word by allonym: 8:51pm On Mar 24, 2006
BTW, mlks, since WHEN does someone have to say something for me to talk about it?

The original poster asked what implications does the bible code have on our lives. The poster mentioned what Jesus has to say about it. Pardon me for assuming Jesus has anything to do with Christians. Pardon me that this is a religion forum. Pardon me that someone accused me of not being christian and for that reason, I should not be in this thread.

Perhaps you and everyone attacking me should get together, devise a unified strategy, then have a go at it. Otherwise, you all end up looking like fools, one person claiming there is nothing christian about this, the other claiming that everyone here is having a christian discussion and I should get out.

In case you are confused:

gidig:
This is almost like a Deja vu.Why is it that this is such a common practice to this forum. One minute, someone raises a significant issue that draws commnents that nourshes the mind as well as open one to other perceptions;then someone comes on and makes a statement that is so , off.

I thought we were having a lovely discuussion here until allonym comes in.I am not angry with you for your statement but what informs it. This is the religion part of the thread and you already know that this is a christain topic. There are other platforms where you can post your opinions. You are not the Bible and you already know that. I use this forum because it is an oppurtuntiy to learn.

please do not start one of those childish fights here. please! There are more than enough places for displaying that kind of attitude not here.

Christianity EtcRe: The Bible Code And The End Of The Word by allonym: 8:50pm On Mar 24, 2006
Perhaps I'm an idiot. . .or perhaps all of you are idiots.

Try reading the original post.

Are you seriously telling me that the original poster had nothing to do with christianity?

I guess I've just lost my ability to understand english.
I haven't read the Bible Code, so can't speak much about it. The one thing I'd like to say is that whatever one believes in or finds fascinating, it'd be safer to look into and keep to what the Scriptures say on any subject. The reasons why I may not really be bothered or too excited about the Bible Code (even without having read it) include:

1) The bane of setting prophetic dates or calendars. Jesus tells us plainly that it is not for us to know the times or the seasons - these are the prerogatives of the Father (Acts 1:7). For the Christian, it is more important to be ready for the Second Coming of the Lord Jesus Christ, which may happen at any moment.

2) It is interesting to note that computer coding of end-time events using the Equidistant Letter Sequence (ELS) technique is not unique to the Bible even though some have claimed that only the Bible could yield ELS. Perhaps, quoting a reference might do it better than I could explain:

Responding to an explicit challenge from Drosnin, who claimed that only the Bible could yield ELS,
Australian mathematician Brendan McKay found many ELS letter arrays in Moby Dick
that contain
ELSs related to modern events. Other people, such as US physicist Dave Thomas, found other examples
in many texts. In addition, Drosnin had used the flexibility of Hebrew orthography to his advantage, freely
mixing classic (no vowels, Y and W strictly consonant) and modern (Y and W used to indicate i and u
vowels) modes, as well as variances in spelling of K and T, to wrench out the desired meaning. In his
television series John Safran vs God, Australian television personality John Safran worked successfully
with McKay to look for evidence of the September 11 terrorist attacks on New York in the lyrics of
Vanilla Ice's repertoire.

(see reference here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bible_code )

What this means is that the Bible Code does not guarantee a surefire prophetic message of end time events as confidently as does the Bible. There are many subjects involved in the prophetic drama than are covered by the Bible Code and such other literary works. As noted by gidig, the Bible Code can not be used to tell the future; whereas the prophecies of the Bible warn about things which are yet to occur in a futuristic and predictive manner.

3) On the whole, the illustrations of the Bible Code are intriguing indeed. However, it helps to see the bigger and more complete picture in what the Bible itself says on any subject for that matter.
Look at you talking about the implication of the bible code for christians. . . look, you even mention the bible. . .WHOAA . , i must be on drugs. . . tell me I'm the only one who sees that.

There is no way, YOU could just have posted what you did. . . .
Christianity EtcRe: Definition Of God by allonym: 8:47pm On Mar 24, 2006
perhaps you cannot add.

No matter how you add 1 and 1, the result always has the value of 2 in decimal.

Try again.

I don't use "senses" to do math. Anyone who can do that is exceptionally gifted. . .they just "feel" the answer.

I have never experienced what a microprocessor does, yet if I design one, I can detail everything it can possibly do with no exception. You don't need experience to have knowledge.

Well,

If when you are angry at someone for breaking a dish, you start ranting and raving about how they let you down and never are there to hold you and kiss you, expect to be termed emotional.

When you get angry at someone for not having dinner, and then dinner comes and you are no longer angry, and will never ever think about that incident in the future, then you are just termed being angry.
