Imani:The ring should be returned to the man. |
davidylan:I disagree with this. Cleaning the house, doing the laundry, dishes, shopping, cooking, and caring for kids is just as important as working a 8-5 job. I don't see why someone working a full-time job should be guilted into doing more work at home. Perhaps the issue is the incorrect belief that "staying at home" is going to be a bed of roses. It is not . . . unless you hire maids to do all the work for you. There is work involved, just like there is work involved with . . .going to work. So what exactly is the big deal? One person works at a traditional job, the other person works at home. |
nferyn:Well. . the attributes of omnipotence, omniscience, and omnibenevolence create contradictions even when couple with free will because it is our logical (maybe) assertation that if God is omnipotent, then whatever he wants will occur and since he is omniscience, free will doesn't really make sense since God already knows everything that would happen. However, if you think about it, omniscience and free will can co-exist, it would just imply that God creating humans was an exercise in futility, and I'm not quite sure if the three omni categories necessarily imply that God does not engage in futile actions. This also goes against the omnibenevolent attribute of God, because since God is omniscient, God would know that giving humans free will would not turn out good for humans and for God to still continue along this course of action would make God capricious. I think the contradictions can be resolved if one of them was incorrect. IE God is either not omniscient, omnibenevolent, or omnipotent. If you base your postulates about the nature of God on the Christian bible, the best one to scratch off the list is omnibenevolence. While humans would like to think that God is omnibenevolent, the actions taken by God do not necessarily construe the meaning we ascribe to the word. nferyn:Well, to be fair, while we may expect there to be some distinct evidence of all this, there does exist a very very very remote possibility that this evidence could somehow have been erased over time (or some of it simply lie undiscovered - think about all the furor going on NOW over the excavation work going on in Jerusalem - Israel has a national rule that they don't undergo any major architectural work without doing some archaelogical excavation - to aid them in finding the evidence of which we are speaking). Anyhoo. . .yeah and to spin your head some more, the bible says "all things are possible with God" so assuming the bible is correct, the disappearance of all such evidence in that region is indeed possible. . . hehehe nferyn:Ahh, the fun stuff. The easy counterargument to this is "you cannot take those sections of the Bible literally". There is really no way to argue against that statement. It pretty much serves as a catchall for any arguments on scientific grounds relating to creation up through the flood. That is not to say it is right or wrong, just there is no way to satisfactorily win against this argument. |
laudate:Umm, I'm sorry. Did I miss something? How much more of a story do I need. Man dates Girl A. Man breaks up with Girl A and marries Girl B. Man while married to Girl B is having affair with Girl A. Seems to me that Girl A is carrying on with a married man. I don't know about you, but that makes both of them adulterers. This means they are willing to violate marriage vows consequences be damned. Are you seriously trying to suggest that there is some alternate explanation for what happened. That they were not really committing adultery? Perhaps if I knew the full story I would feel sorry for them and not judge so harshly? Death row criminals try it all the time. They were abused by their parents as children. Nobody every loved them. It doesn't matter. As an adult, you are held responsible for your actions unless it can be definitely proven that you were or are insane. |
fisayo:I use windows and i've used linux (on a cluster that I used for some research work). I did not require a machine to disabuse me of an grandiose illusions I may have had of myself. In any case, my extensive use of DOS made my transition to using linux (the first time I'd seriously used the OS for anything) for my research work very easy. For my everyday life, I still prefer windows. My thinkpad is rock solid and I've been to the wiki for linux on my machine and waaay too many features of my laptop is unsupported (and will remain that way - I have a thinkpad x24 which IBM stopped making years ago). Linux will never give me the experience of using it that windows will. And since windows has been stable on my machine - I've never had issues with viruses or crashing (perhaps because I keep my windows and antivirus up to date. . .well to be honest. . they take care of doing that themselves), it does not make sense to bother to use linux. Like I've said, and many others have said here, you use the right tool for the job. |
hmm. . . all interesting. Let me start. I believe in God. My belief is not dependent on any religious text. While my introduction to the concept is invariably tied to one, my belief is not predicated on a specific book. I find that my belief in God is self consistent and without contradiction. It is easy to argue that my human limitation keeps me from being able to comprehend the true realities of life, origins of the universe, etc. Unfortunately, that would render any other person susceptible to the same problems. As a result, I cannot tell someone that what they believe in is wrong and I do not attempt to say what I believe is the one "right" way. |
spato:Until I add to your question, you, your mother, or your grandmother, who came first? |
Niggy:Are you serious? Hmm. . a new OS is having problems supporting new peripherals. Yet linux which has been out since before win xp, still only supports a small subset of the possible hardware I can use on my windows xp machine. This is a disingenuous argument meant to misdirect. If we're going to compare OSes, lets do an apples to apples comparison (hehehe no pun intended). I agree that linux and windows both have advantages and disadvantages, many of them in different but critical areas. Its funny, the biggest advantages of linux and windows are pretty much in mutually exclusive domains. It's a common concept that in order to gain security, you must give up usability. Anyone who tries to convince you otherwise is lying. Linux offers great security. The cost you pay is the ability to use it with just about anything you want. Windows is a buy once run anywhere on anything by anybody. Unfortunately, in order to be able to operate just about any hardware someone designs or software, concessions have to be made. Seeing that it is impossible to write special case code to cover everyone and anything that could possibly be invented in the future, windows must neccesarily sacrifice a lot of security. When it comes down to it, the OS that you use should be the one for the job. When talking to people about the OS to use, you should evaluate the usage scenarios. If somebody wants to play all the latest and greatest games on a machine that they'll be upgrading memory, video cards, and sound on a 3 month basis, a windows machine is the best solution. If I want to run a 30 machine cluster dedicated to number crunching for my thesis project, there is no question that the OS be some nix variant. |
Big B1:I know. . I find that really distressing. |
People on the first page were saying something about the USA would have a white female president before a black one. I think they are forgetting that black males could vote in the USA almost 60 years before white females. The argument that a white woman would become president before a black male is fallacious. |
laudate:Well, in that case, it looks like the parent's were correct. The woman that their son was about to marry is one that would conduct affairs with married men. I think one should seek their parent's advice when it comes to major decisions in one's life. Buying a car, finding a place to live, starting a new job, getting married - but keep in mind that it is just that, advice. If your parents caution you against marrying someone, then you need to give some thought to that. If their reasons are because x person is from tribe y, then dig deeper. If the rationale is purely along tribal lines, then you can ignore that. Ultimately, you can expect your parent's to support your decision. If they decide to disown you or no longer be civil and helpful because you have gone against their wishes, then you have more seriously problems that extend beyond your choice of a life partner. Nobody can be expected to do something they don't agree with. If after how ever many years of life, you and your parents done see eye to eye, then that is the way things will be. |
what if the guy is a horrible kisser and you find out on the first date? Are you saying that the guy is able to learn how to kiss up until the day he gets married. Then, he's stamped and forged that way forever? |
wow, those are some strong prayer warriors, lol. So, what were the reasons the prayer warriors gave for one guy over another. Seeing as you don't know anything about these people, what is it about them that makes you decide to listen to what they counsel? There is so much info missing here. Do you already know these prayer warriors? Do they know you? Do they know the three men on the list? Who did they train under? What is their track record? What reasons did they give for one person over the other? Do these reasons make sense given your experience with the three guys? How is it that one of the guys asked your parents for your hand in marriage without consulting you first? |
I just got my first car last weekend. I'm now officially a manual driver! |
i'm guessing you have not been in such a situation and therefore are missing some of the subtleties |
ok. . . what about instead of "shopping" for rings. . . they were "browsing? |
some couples shop for the ring prior to the proposal. If the girl cannot find a ring she likes - there would be no proposal in the first place. |
Well, no, a man does not have to have an engagement ring to propose. If he does get one, he should make sure he can afford it. If the girl cannot accept an affordable ring, perhaps the two need to rethink their priorities. |
bodegideon:Straight parents do that too. I think that is a property of human beings. . . we seem to like to tell other people what to do. |
At the most basic level, my belief in God is just as valid as Nferyn's unbelief. Many questions about life and the origin of it or the origin of the universe cannot be proven. As a result, if you advocate any single explanation, you MUST make a conscious decision to ignore the lack of evidence. No matter how much one disagrees with one side or another, with current human knowledge a belief or lack thereof in God is equally valid. |
okwanuzo3:That seems dumb. Looks to me that heterosexuals are perfectly capable of producing homosexuals on their own. I doubt "elminating them" would solve your problem. simmy:Your urges are fine. . . as long as you don't act on them. Your inability to control it does not matter until you use it to break the law. Then, your crazy butt will goto jail. Having sex with someone younger than 18 is illegal. You are taking advantage of a child. No brainer there. Having sex with your pet (is illegal in most US states). Stealing is illegal in most places. Being nasty to people is not illegal. Feel free. Your urges are nobody's business. Only when you do something illegal does it become a problem. Frankly, I don't give a crap as to the origins of your urges. I only care if your urges hurt me. Since the urge to have consensual sex with another person cannot hurt me or other people, I don't see any problems. |
You know. . i'm starting to think my mom is practicing witchcraft on me too! Get this, for my christmas vacation, I went home to visit my family. While I was there, my mom cooked up a great feast of lots of our favorite food. After I ate it, I felt really good and happy. When my mom asked me to clear the table and help clean up, I DID it. - That must be witchcraft right? |
harvey:The guy gives her sex, a phone, a bed to sleep in with him, and she's not satisfied. This goes on for a long time. The guy knows this, and continues to provide her with what she wants. Why should I care? |
rezzy:I'm not sure. However, the bible does tell slaves not to run away. In fact, Paul returns one such slave, Onesimus, to his master, Philemon. The letter to Philemon (one chapter) is where you will see this. |
eslynera:You are wrong. Some of us are living proof. |
kheme:You seriously don't believe a word you typed right? It seems to me that you don't know exactly how babies are conceived or how a baby's sex is determined genetically. I suppose this is not your fault. . .obviously, you did not go through any sex-education classes (or perhaps you haven't gotten to them yet). |
