Free:What makes you think God loves you? If God doesn't care about you, and lets people into heaven or hell based on whether they followed certain rules, then maybe us stupid humans, we may think God loves us, when he really doesn't. There are two people who are able to restrain themselves from destroying you in spite of yourself: 1) A person who truely loves you 2) A person who truely doesn't care about you. There are two people who are able to restrain themselves from HELPING you when you are in mortal danger: 1) A person who truely hates you 2) A person who truely doesn't care about you. Seeing as it is impossible to truely love and hate someone at the same time, the logical conclusion is that God is apathetic. |
Just to let everyone know: PC stands for Personal Computer. An Apple, and many Macs are PCs. Windows is NOT. Mac, also refers to an OS, which Windows IS. Most people have never used Windows on a machine completely engineered by microsoft whose hardware is closed to everyone else. Microsoft doesn't even DESIGN PCs. So, explain how you can possibly compare a Mac PC to MS Windows? The only comparison that has any foundation, is Linux to Windows. Both are OSes. Both are targeted to run on anything. Both are targeted so that you can add ANY hardware to your system that you want - even - GASP - hardware not made by the company that sold you the system. Also, for all those who claim Macs are the epitome of prettiness. . . . there are so many other machines out there, Acer Ferrari, Alienware, Cyberpower Inc, PortableOne, the Sony X505 to name a few. Not only are they "pretty", they are also able to run NATIVELY, just about anything developed for a PC. Something, Macs could not do until they switched to the I86 family. Welcome Apple to the real world. |
God must be apathetic. He is neither good, nor evil. He just doesn't care. |
This is not a feeling or sense or anything. If you told me 1 + 1 = 4. I don't "FEEL" that you are wrong. I don't "believe" you are wrong. There is no question of your wrongness. There is not doubt, no subjectiveness to it. Similarly, there is no "feeling" or subjectivity in my post. |
Funny how the "good" God's plan involves the suffering of countless trillions of people when he could have easily made it otherwise. Perhaps people should stop pretending God is "good". |
nicetohave:YES! YES! YES! If God didn't give me free will, but instead decided which things I should do, then I wouldn't have contracted the STD! Since God has the power to take away my free will, and let me live a happy life, yet chooses not to do so, God is RESPONSIBLE. Here is an example, A man buys a gun. He tells his son, I'm placing this gun up on this cabinet. It is hard for you to reach. Do NOT play with it, touch it, or even think about going near it. If you do so, I will punish you. Later on, the boy, exercising his free will, takes the gun, and kills his neighbor. The man goes to jail. The man in the example has the ability to remove guns from his home and drastically reduce the chance of his little boy getting his hands on it. Similarly, God has the power to do the same for little me. The man in the example decided not to. Just like God has apparently done. The man in the example commanded his son NOT to play with the gun. I'll assume God has commanded me NOT to play with STDs. The boy in the example decided (which indicates he has free will) to play with the gun (against the command of his father). In your example, I decided (which indicates I have free will) to play with stds (against the assumed command from God). The boy kills a man, in your example, I contract an STD. The person at fault in the case of the boy, his father, a person with the power and authority to have prevented all this from happening in the first place. The person at fault in your example case, God, the ONLY person with the power and authority to have prevented all this from happening. |
nicetohave:Would you prefer I said, "does not compute". Or is this the christian way of making an argument, say some bullcrap and pretend it has some higher meaning that nobody else understands. The only way your statement would have any meaning is for me to defy the laws of grammar, semantics, etc, and assume that the "some" that you refer to in the second part of your statement is actually talking about a group of people other than the "they" you refer to in the first part of your statement. Excuse me if I choose not to go down that route. Then people could make sentences like this: George W. Bush is the president of the United States; he is a terrorist known to everyone as the Unabomber. and pretend it actually makes sense. |
The FAA has (for a long time) been working on this idea called the "Highway in the Sky". It's actually necessary if we are to have flying cars (in the US at least). Certainly, the infrastructure for it can be built and supported with current technology. What is left is for more people to work on ideas. Like many new technologies that will emerge in the next decades, once you develop it, you face the even greater challenge of either directly convincing people to use it, or sneaking it into their daily life w/o them noticing. |
Seun:I see your point here. 1) Flying cars will have drunk drivers - that is a significant safety factor. Perhaps flying cars would be made so that you'd have to pass a breathalyzer test to operate it. A drunk person would probably not be able to defeat this protection, even if it were possible to do so. 2) Flying cars landing on homes - not dedicated aviation facilities. Umm, what do you define as a dedicated aviation facility. Crop dusters used on many farms (in the US) take off and land on the farm. The farmers maintain the planes themselves. No need to file flight plans if you stay under a certain elevation. There are plenty of personal air transporation vehicles now which exist which don't require any type of dedicated aviation facility whatsoever. You can buy build-it-yourself KITS to make your own personal mini helicopters and fly about (w/o a license) in designated areas. Personal transportation does not require dedicated aviation facilities. Gigantic planes do. Nobody parks 30 foot trucks in residential neighborhoods, but they park SUVs and other cars. Similarly, nobody will park a Boeing 747 in their backyard, but many people can park their personal mini helis and i'm sure the flying car of the future is more suv sized than 747. 3) Where do people park planes where there is trouble with the engine? The cars would obviously need to have safety mechanisms for when the engine is disabled, such as the ability to glide, or parachutes which help you do the same thing. Do you know what happens in most modern cars if you run out of gas? The engine cuts off, power cuts off in the car, the steering wheel goes dead - ie no more power steering, and your car drops from whatever speed it was going to near zero. How come so many people are NOT dying as a result of this? The answer lies in a lot of things. . . be sure that flying cars would have these same features - engine warning lights, maintenance lights, warnings when fuel is low, etc. Just as people maintain their current cars so that they don't run out of gas on a highway at 70mph, I'm sure you'd probably not want to do it 6000 feet in the air. |
how is it possible that man made himself available for something God did not make for him. This would mean man has power over God. Rethink your post. |
that does not make sense. Rhodalyn:Thats like saying, although all of them are boys, some are girls. |
allonym:Where is the "bad" logic in what I said. You posted that some things are not the will of God. You have not answered whether this includes some good things, or only all bad things. So, let me start afresh, there is good, and there is evil. Their is some, all, and none. Which one or ones of these are the will of God? a) All good things and All evil things b) All good things and SOME evil things c) All good things and NONE of the evil things d) SOME good things and ALL evil things e) SOME good things and SOME evil things f) SOME good things and NONE of the evil things g) NONE of the good things and ALL evil things h) NONE of the good things and SOME evil things i) NONE of the good things and NONE of the evil things Answer this question if you can, or tell me if there is some "bad" logic which renders this question invalid. If there is "bad" logic, be kind enough to point it out, instead of just tossing statements into the air. |
God does not care how you spell his name. If there was a language without capital letters, where would you be? The capital letter convention is one used by Christians in an attempt to differentiate to the rest of the world between the god they worship and other gods, which are not supposed to exist anyway. In fact, if christians recognize that other gods don't exist, what is the point of having to capitalize God? |
gidig:Let me correct you now. There is nothing christian about any biblical code nonsense. If anything, this belongs in the joke section. Your mock displeasure is hilarious. |
ok, how does that stop you from enjoying the world while you are alive? |
Risks, dude, you take your life into your hands each time you turn the key of the ignition of a car, let alone go out for a drive. Everytime you walk across a street, you take your life into your hands. Your chances of dying in a plane crash is much much lower than being struck by lightning. Believe me, there is NO real safety issue which does not already exist. The only issue is the that in the minds of future consumers. This is why working on new technology is such a financial gamble, you're taking a big chance on consumers actually "feeling" safe, despite the fact that its not any safer or more dangerous than previous technology. Trucks (hugh delivery trucks) have had lane departure technology in the USA for almost ten years. However, its only been in the past couple that its appearing in high end luxury cars. It would probably be 4-6 more before its standard in all cars. Why? Because humans are afraid of "ooh a computer crashes". Everyone likes to cite the MS blue screen of death. Car companies have fooled people by not making a big deal about how much current cars are computer controlled. Imagine what would happen if people really thought about how ABS brakes really worked, or how the fuel injected into their engines is timed, or any vast number of things which they imagine a crashed computer would cause immediate destruction of their car and body. |
Women's self esteem tends to be tied to their relationships with others. I'm betting any woman married to the guy would get to the point where she starts to believe that in actuality, she's just not attractive enough and/or he doesn't love her. |
no. . . why would his body be dust without a soul. Of course, i'm pretending for now that people have souls to begin with. |
Ok, perhaps you can explain how Dafur refugees have been feeding, clothing, and healing themselves? Divine miracles? |
the man had no choice. his mind could not concieve of keeping this discovery to himself. The minute he tried to spend it, he would be arrested as a thief. He may not be a good person. He may not even be a smart person. Just a pragmatic one. |
we're talking about pastors who have no other business. Nobody disputes a pastor who also runs a construction company can earn money. A pastor that does nothing else but accumulate material things is most likely up to no good. |
wow, in order to know God exists, I must believe in him. So, it must follow that if I don't believe in him, God does not exist. Otherwise, I could believe in say. , the Grand Coconut, ruler of the Universe, and it would exist. |
what soul? since when do people have souls? When is a soul even mentioned in the bible? |
According to the wikipedia site you posted, there is only one definition of God people agree on, and that is: The sole creator and ruler of the universe. So, potentially, chance, probability, or the Big Bang could be God. |
t4cash:Oh, were are using english now. . . does this mean that I can attack the definition with logic based on real words with real meanings? Or am I constrained to talking about God with only concepts sanctioned by any person here who claims to be a christian? |
like I said, God has repeatedly commanded israelites to kill and steal, despite COMMANDING them not to do so. I feel confident that if Jesus showed up, he would understand that like him, I'm about my father's business. |
Ok, So, you are saying that SOME things that happen are NOT the will of God? In fact, even if you are saying that, that still does not rule out some BAD things being the will of God does it? So, since God and Satan can be authors of good and evil things, to us humans, there ultimately is no difference between the two. |
If everything that happens is God's will, then he makes the bad things happen. Otherwise, it would be impossible to say that only God makes good things happen. That would mean the devil made good things happen too. And if the devil makes good things happen, then what is so bad about the devil? That would essentially mean that God and the devil do the same things for humans. |
